"In North Berkeley on San Pablo Avenue, Casa Latina sells long and skinny tamales in pork, chicken, or cheese. Plan on ordering a dozen of their sturdy tamales one week in advance for Nochebuena. Or, if eating them at Casa Latina under the gaze of a multitude of Frida Kahlo paintings, order them “al Vapor”-style, steamed and topped with salsa verde, queso, and crema, or “Abuela”-style, steamed, then fried and doused in mole." - Annelies Zijderveld, Dianne de Guzman, Paolo Bicchieri

Came to Berkeley for a Christmas party last night and decided to try this place for a brunch. The food is delicious 😋 and the customer service is also excellent. You must try the tamales! Connie is the best!

Best breakfast burrito in the east bay is served here. Lovely bakery with fresh bread everyday, you get it yourself Just like a classic Hispanic bakery. Atmosphere is great, lovely workers, and great people. Id recommend anyone whose close by to come visit, you won’t regret it!!

If you love a amazing food, wonderful atmosphere, and great service, this place is an absolute MUST TRY. From the moment we arrived, we wretched greeted by friendly and helpful staff. Seating was plentiful and the ambiance of the dining area was airy and inviting. The food came out promptly and everything was incredibly fresh. I ordered the Chile relleno plate, and it was amazing. Everything was perfectly seasoned and the sauce was delicious. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Absolutely LOVE dining here. The dishes all scream home made authenticity. I love the slightly spicy enchiladas verdes. And the mole enchiladas, OMG, delish. All of the desserts are super fun and made fresh. Enjoy!

I remember this place from back in the day when it had more limited menu selections, but now that it has been reborn as a taqueria, and Mexican restaurant, all I can say is. W.O.W. Though I didn't plan on it, I hit it on the nose and walked in here on a taco Tuesday and the tacos are $2.50 each, and they don't skimp at all. All. I decided to try the works and got one of Barbacoa, one of Pollo Asado, one of carne asada, and one of what they call heritage carnitas. Now let me just lay it down here. Heritage carnitas are the kind of carnitas that I like above all others. Soft and moist with bits of fat, absolutely tender to the bite, and full of pork flavor, these are the kind of carnitas you would find in Uruapan, in Michoacan, Mexico, at one of the stands like Los hermanos olivos. The Barbacoa, was incredibly tender, reminding me of perfectly cooked "Ropa Vieja", a Sauteed, slow cooked Cuban skirt steak, and the amount of meat they put in every taco as I said before was impressive. I got called away before I could finish the other two tacos, so, rather than review them at home after reheating them I decided to go back down there later this week and I will give you guys another review then. But all I can say right now is, that this place is an absolutely solid taqueria and Mexican restaurant, with a really nice staff and located in the flatlands of Berkeley and Easy to access from just about anywhere. Highly recommended!

Magical Mole! The spice blend stands out from the mole you're used to. Hints of cinnamon and cloves are recognizable. Flautas drenched in this delicious taste mole were the subject for our lunch time delight today. Casa Latina Bakery is a Berkeley gem. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. There's plenty of space and yet there's always a buzz in the air. Make sure to hit that wall of scrumptious baked goods! You will be back for more! That hand made creem cheese in the Danish is addictive!

What a wonderful experience eating here. Chill and comfortable vibe, really nice staff. Pastries are SO good, and they have such a wide variety.

I  found this place online when searching for a breakfast burrito this morning. Online prices have not been updated, therefore, are misleading, The first thing I did when I walked in the restaurant was go to the restroom. I found it clean, tidy, very presentable and acceptable. The restaurant was also clean and appealing. I ordered the breakfast burrito with the Aidelle chicken apple sausage. I was surprised when it rang up $18.52. The Online Menu listed it at $7.90 plus $2.50 for the chicken apple sausage. The Latino woman who took my order was very courteous, polite and kind. I am a black man so I always appreciate that. She explained to me that the online prices were different and I decided to still try it anyway. I struggled to find anything special about the breakfast burrito and will not be ordering it again. There seemed to be hardly any meat or eggs unless the eggs were chopped up too fine. The meat didn't seem like it was freshly warmed up and may have been prepped beforehand, so I enjoyed it for what it was. It was not the worst burrito I've ever had and I can't classify it as the worst burrito I have ever had but I definitely cannot say it was one of the better ones. It was just run-of-the-mill average. As it did not meet my expectations for the price, but I may come back and try the tacos or the tamales someday, but I  already have the best tamales restaurant that the world has ever known, so it's hard to believe they can out-do the La Corneta Taqueria in S..F.. I thought she told me she added on the tip automatically when we were discussing the price of the burrito which is why I opted not to tip when the option came up on the card reader machine when paying. But after I left the restaurant, I looked at the receipt and saw that she had not added on a tip, so I went back and gave her a $5 cash tip. Again, I'm a black man so I always appreciate the courtesy and the politeness and kindness. I would just recommend that people try this place for themselves. But the prices are a little bit above my means. The experience was okay. Thanks. 9/20/2022- I'm UPDATING my review as follows: I went back the very next day on TACOS TUESDAY! I'm not much of a fan of TACOS, but that's simply because good TACOS are hard to find. So, I thought I'd go back and try the tacos. I'm so happy I made that decision. It was really crowded and the line was out the door but I got my order reasonably fast. I tried three tacos for $8 bucks + a $2 tip. One steak, one grilled chicken, and one pork . Apparently, they don't cut down the portion size just because you're getting them for $2.50. I remember noticing how the take out box felt so light and so I wasn't expecting much, but when I opened it up, they were so generous with the portions that I kept saying to myself (as I was eating them) how I felt like I was getting my money's worth. No body can make tacos like my oldest daughter, and she's an African American woman, but these tacos come in a close second. I now know where to go when I want great Tacos on a Tuesday. I really really enjoyed the tacos. I'll keep the four-star rating that I gave them but I'd like to give them four and a half stars now, but that's not an option. So thanks again. I will see you again. MUCHOS AMOR and your pastries look "to die for " but I'll have to try them next visit. But if I see dogs inside the restaurant, I probably won't come back. There's a reason for that law- health concerns.

Yelp
pros: -wide variety of delicious pastries (freshly made) -lots of seating -beautiful frida kahlo paintings and complementary furniture design that reflects mexico city -great beverages, esp coffee -lots of residential street parking options -friendly and fast service cons: -none

Yelp
We had a a friend and family get together. There was 6 of us ready for lunch. Our daughter selected a place she had tried before. Pleasant entrance, and Freida theme decorations. Casa Latina with its happy but very busy workers, featuring Mexican food and bakery. Entering I noticed orders were taken at the counter (no table waiter, but some orders are delivered). High ceiling and hard floors make it a little noisy but the food makes up for it. Plenty of seating for a sorts of choices to seat. I ordered the Micheladas to drink. It was made with a dark beer this time. Fun changing it up. We ordered to share and a lot of food stated arriving at the table. Plenty of red and or green salsa for the asking. We got guacamole with chips (the guac was awesome). Also Empanadas, Platanos, tacos and a burrito, Mole Poblano, and more. It was a feast. I happily noticed the portions are huge and delish. But be prepared for a little more heat than you usually get. This is a great place for take out as well. They were very busy the whole time we were there.

Yelp
Desirous of a burrito I stopped in at Casa Latina. The place was so inviting looking that immediately after placing my order I decided we should eat there, not at home, and followed with this: "I ordered wrong". Burritos are the sort of thing I order as a take-away, never a dine-in, and Casa Latina proved my natural instincts correct. Everything being brought out to others looked far more appealing than my Carne Asada Burrito which was bland and completely uninspired. The person who ate my leftovers later that evening concurred: "that burrito was missing, like, everything...". To wit, the carne asada wasn't flavorful, there was no pico de gallo, very light on the requested pinto beans, and the hot sauce had all settled into a single section which I'd not encountered while eating. To say I'd not get a carne asada burrito here ever again is to speak truth. A Mariscos Burrito made with shrimp tasted much better. Everything about Casa Latina makes me think there's something I'd like on the menu and for that reason I took note of a taco Tuesday offering they feature. That said though, there's a lot of Mexican fare in Berkeley that I already know I like so the odds of a return visit - no matter how the decor charmed me - are running slim to nil.

Yelp
Taco Tuesday? Say less! Companion suggested we grab some tacos and I thought it was a great idea. We chose Casa Latina as it was our first time dining there together. The restaurant's environment is brightly colored, with neighborhood vibes, and art sprawled throughout. It's the right-sized restaurant for small or larger parties as seating is all self-service. The workers are all courteous and ordering is done at the front with limited interactions. There's a lot to take in in terms of the food. Traditional and nontraditional Mexican and Latin American foods, plus a bakery! I've had their pastries before but not their tacos in a while. I got the Carnitas Taco and my companion had the Al Pastor Taco; both were discounted for taco Tuesday. The carnitas taco was the juiciest taco I've ever had--literally, juice wouldn't stop spilling it. The carnitas was good but could've had more flavor while my companion's Al pastor was dry. Both tacos had some heat due to the salsa, I'd opt for it on the side next time. Berkeley has a variety of options for Mexican food. Casa Latina is pretty good for prices and portions, but I wouldn't actively seek this restaurant out. Parking is street only and the restaurant is found off San Pablo Ave.

Yelp
Wait. Don't tell me I've never reviewed this place... I've been here quite a few times over the years and I really enjoy each visit. If you've never been here, here's what you should know: - it's on the smaller side! Lots of people have to-go orders so I've never had an issue with seating, but keep that in mind. - there's a little Mexican bakery section here! - nearby parking is metered street parking or residential, so it's likely you'll have to park and walk. - bathroom? Absolutely. Just one, and you'll need a key. I think the cost is on the higher side, but not much more than similar restaurants in the area. The interior is nicely decorated, with a large mirror and some Frida artwork. The food is solid. I love their chips! They're so well-seasoned. Some of the bakery items have not been my favorite, but they're okay. My husband loves to order the chile verde burrito, which is gigantic. I will usually order pupusas (technically not Mexican food, these hail from El Salvador). The portion size is great. As a bonus, my toddler loves the food here, so they definitely earned my business.

Beth H.

Yelp
First time here as I was shopping across the street but starving Wow the carnitas juicy and crispy The pickled vegetables in right side of plate So on Point Brought my husband home the chili Verde pork, which was Most excellent and tart in the best way Corn muffin loaf was bomb as well We will be back just wished we lived closer

Jasmine R.

Yelp
Reasonably priced Latin food with the top notch flavors. I took my little sisters here for a bite after the Cal Berkeley Basketball game. You must order first before u sit down. I wish they would have wiped the table off first but no biggie. We all ordered Tacos: 2 Carne Asada Tacos (about street taco size but lots of meat 3 Carnitas Tacos (same size as asada tacos) 2 prawn tacos (it was pretty flavorful but a bit messy) 2 sides of rice 1 Cola 1 horchata 1 jarritos -------------- All for $50 The food was delicious, love the energy again, just wish they would have wiped off the table! Cleanliness is key!

My-Tien T.

Yelp
A great find in Berkeley! The restaurant is spacious and is very homey. Each time I come here, I order the enchiladas verdes with chicken and it never disappoints ! I've also come here for Taco Tuesday where the tacos are affordable and fresh. It is both a restaurant and bakery, so after dining here I like to choose a sweet treat to take home! The service here is great as the owner is very helpful and always is engaging with customers.

Ash R.

Yelp
Casa Latina was good. We found street parking and the tacos were sizable. What I love is the bakery portion of this place, they have a side filled with bakery items and pastries that were fairly large. Wouldn't return to go here specifically because the tacos were nothing incredibly memorable but would come back for the atmosphere and the bakery items.

Yelp
First time here I have had this place bookmarked for sometime now and I finally made it here I called in and ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo I added avocado I asked to also add nopales but they said they no longer have nopales on the menu Placing my order on the phone was easy I was able to find street parking rt in front !! Parking is metered, no private parking lot I was kinda shocked that the burrito ended up costing $21 Cus that is ALOT for a basic breakfast burrito but here is their breakdown $12 for breakfast burrito $4 for chorizo $2 for avocado THAT WAS NOT ADDED !!! Grrrrrrrrrr I really wanted to like this spot but the burrito is BASIC and I can't ever imagine paying $20 for a burrito PERIOD I'm a baller on a budget and I'll try this spot again but I guess only on Taco Tuesdays $2.50 a taco Inside is nicely decorated and clean

Rachel D.

Yelp
Yummy breakfast, this place odd consistent with great food. Very delicious and authentic flavors. So many choices of food.....

Heliana M.

Yelp
Love coming here. Food is always good. This time we went for some tacos (carne asada always very good here) and shared mole poblano and barbacoa plates. I love their poblano but will skip barbacoa next time. Their flan is delicious and very rich. Will be back for breakfast or another burrito scene next time

Jonathan R.

Yelp
I've been a fan of this family style Mexican restaurant for several years. The food is solid with a varied selection and homemade desserts. There are a lot of choices in the Berkeley area and Casa Latina has remained consistently good. Enjoy!

Paul K.

Yelp
Food is excellent and the staff is friendly. The ambiance is cheery and fun. I especially like their pan dulce

Alison B.

Yelp
Our go to Mexican food spot for years, spanning from when our kids were youngsters until now, when they return home for a visit. The people who work there are kind, the food is wonderful, the vibe is Berkeley, and who doesn't love Frida Kahlo?

Alex H.

Yelp
Great service, great food, lively music. What more can you want in a restaurant! I came here on Saturday and they were pretty busy.. luckily we were able to find a table. We had chilaquiles and a cuban sandwich which were both phenomenal *chef's kiss* Then we finished off with choco flan which was soaked with the rich caramel sauce and made me crave more as I'm writing this review! I'll be back to try their pan dulce and cafe de olla!!

Elite P.

Yelp
Casa Latina has been a hit & miss. They use to have good food however, the quality has gone so far down, not sure why? DO NOT ORDER THROUGH DOOR DASH OR TO GO ORDERS. They will throw anything into your Burrito. I thought I would again give them the benefit of doubt and boy was I wrong. I will never order from Casa Latina again. I've gotten burnt, fatty gristle, chewy toilet paper Meat. Food is too expensive to just serve people BS. Have more pride in what you offer. Extremely disappointed!

Joselyne T.

Yelp
I always have found myself passing up this place every time I drive down San Pablo Ave and decided to give it a try for brunch. Menu with lots of options for both breakfast/lunch/dinner. I tried the spicy red sauce chilaquiles and as somebody that loves spicy food it's really spicy! Lol. Large portions so I was able to save the rest for leftovers and it still tasted amazing. My overall favorite was their iced horchata latte! I ended coming back multiple times just to get that to-go. Some places can't get the perfect balance of both like this place has. Service was pretty fast and we came around a busy time. I though the ambiance inside was gorgeous. We ended up talking about how great the frames and paintings looked. Really a great place to grab a bite anytime during the day.

Tina L.

Yelp
It's been about 4 years since my last visit here. My sister wanted to try this place so we came after a coffee run in the area. Grab a menu, order at the front, get your number, and they bring out your order. I ordered the Pupusa plate (revueltas) again. After 8-10 minutes my order was brought out. The beans were delicious, the plátanos had delicious flavor (next time I'll opt out of the sour cream because it was very bitter). The pupusas were both different. One had black beans the other was like chicken but both had a very sour flavor. I tasted my sister black beans and they didn't taste bad so not sure if the mixture itself was bitter. It had an odor and taste like an orange when it has gone bad. I wasn't able to eat either of them so I just finished my beans and plátanos. The tomato salsa that comes with the pupusas has good flavor. The curtido was alright. My sister got a steak plate and I tried a couple pieces and her steak was delicious. My other sister had Chile verde and that was okay. I'm really disappointed with the flavor of my pupusas this visit. Will get the steak plate or something else if I find myself here again.

Alyssa Mae L.

Yelp
Came in last week after craving some pupusas! Upon entering, you'll see the register but more importantly, an entire section for pan dulce and other yummy pastries. Unfortunately, my group of 3 and I came in late at night and there wasn't much left (which is a great sign). I ordered a pupusa, a side of plantains, and a taco dorado. It was a bit much, looking back, but I was really hungry and the menu had so many options I was interested in! We were given numbers for the waiter to the deliver our food to our tables. Service was pretty standard - not quick or slow. However, the food was delicious! The pupusa was stuffed with its filling and so yummy with the curtido it was served with. The plantains were served with beans and queso - so yummy! Lastly, the taco dorado was a bigger portion size than I expected and it was definitely my favorite dish. I will be back!

T W.

Yelp
Always nice staff and great Mexican food and pastries. Inviting dining room. Easy access to the bathroom via key from the front counter.

Peter D.

Yelp
Flavors were strong. Paintings were great. Also like the bakery and coffee. Great brunch spot.

Mari Q.

Yelp
Currently my favorite chicken burrito spot! Get it with everything! My children like the rice and beans and of course can't forget a pan dulce.

Max R.

Yelp
I tell you, I LOVE the food at Casa Latina! And the coffee is good, too! And the people working there are nice, and I love the paintings by Frieda Kalho on the walls! But last time I was there I ran into a problem, and I don't think I'll go anymore unless it's fixed. I ordered coffee. It was $4.90, I think. A little high but I went for it. THen, when finished, I went back for a refill...$2.90 or something like that, for each refill! (I would only have had one or two.) Coffee may be expensive to make, but every other restaurant seems to do it! PLEASE, Casa Latina...get your coffee prices down to Earth a bit more! I WANT to come back!

Ale C.

Yelp
The Mexican bread selection is extensive i like the cream filled empanada and pineapple empanada. The horchata iced coffee from here is pretty good. The owner took care of me and she seemed to be in a hurry.

Alexis C.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon with a friend. It's one of those places where you order and pay at the counter, they give you a stand with your number to put at your table, then they bring your food when it's ready. Plenty of spacious self seating. They also have a book case where you can leave a book, and take a book. My friend and I both had 2 different tacos each and shared an appetizer which were all tasty. Our only issue was we wished they would've brought our Nachos appetizer once it was ready so we could snack on it before our tacos arrived. Otherwise, it was a great time all around. I definitely want to return to try some of their desserts and bakery goods!

Ronnie A.

Yelp
Went here with a large group for lunch during a weekday. Decor is nice and the service great. Street parking only, we all didn't have a problem finding any spots. Food is delicious. I heard their baked goods are excellent. Will definitely come back to try.

Saher D.

Yelp
The chilaquiles rojos were spicy, but sooo good! The nice lady at the front did warn us about the spice level when we ordered, but we did not waver. Their refried beans are vegetarian-friendly. The chips were a little soggy by the time our plate arrived since they were drowned in sauce, but not complaining since everything was delicious once mixed. Next time, I would try to see if they can substitute the scrambled eggs for fried eggs. The bakery selection is extensive, especially if you arrive in the morning. The staff recommended the chocolate concha which was perfectly fluffy inside and had a powdery chocolate (and a hint of cinnamon?) crust on top. The interior seating is so beautiful with large windows and stunning portraits of Frida on the walls. I'll definitely be back to try their other bakery items and non-breakfast dishes ($2.50 taco Tuesday, pupusas etc.).

Rachel L.

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! The carne asada burrito tasted like heaven, the ratio of ingredients was perfection, and it was super filling. The tortilla chips are homemade and well-seasoned, and they came with a giant serving of guac that was super flavorful (the two of us were only able to eat half in one sitting, so it's great for sharing!) The desserts were also so so so tasty, and we're looking forward to trying more in the future. This is our new neighborhood favorite - thanks so much for such a phenomenal experience! Edit: went back the very next day to try more pastries and order more chips and guac!

Robert M. G.

Yelp
Ordered a Tres Leches and a Zanahoria cake for birthday party of Latinos and all agreed they were delicious.

Troy T.

Yelp
Came in with a group of 5 people on a Sunday evening. The bakery selection was smaller than usual due to the time of day so if you are looking for bakery goods show up early. Order and pay at the counter, there is a small bar behind if you need a margarita or beer. We ordered pupusas, mushroom empanadas, and guacamole starters. All of these were really good, the chips are nicely seasoned and crispy. For main courses we had Baja fish tacos and a barbacoa plate. The fish tacos should be eaten quickly as the toppings can make the crispy fish soggy quickly. The flavor of the food was good, they have a special green salsa that won everyone over. Service was very polite and the food comes out pretty quick. This is a good spot to go if you're in this part of town.

Wendy R.

Yelp
I love love this place. I like the decorations and environment. It's nice that they have a bakery as well. The food is amazing and I highly recommend the Mexican Mocha (i think it has abuelita hot chocolate in it)

Jackie T.

Yelp
I am from SF and moved to the East Bay, Castro Valley to be exact. I am used to fresh, delicious and tasty pan dulce that is made on the premises. You cannot find that in the entire East Bay. I search all over yelp and asked friends. HOWEVER, this place right here........has some of the BEST and tasty pan. I go here every chance I can get. It is all so amazing!! Their food is delicious too!!! The tacos are yummy. I rarely get guacamole with my chips and salsa. I ordered it accidently and that too was amazing.

Ed U.

Yelp
Yes, I know this spot has been on San Pablo Avenue for quite a few years as I've driven by it umpteen times. I would put it in my vast memory bank to try it and promptly lose the thought in an ocean of amnesia. Well, I finally stopped by on a West Berkeley walk. I wasn't looking for an actual meal because well, I ate about an hour before, but hey, I was seduced by their panaderia selection as it looked particularly alluring. I ended up getting a little too aggressive with my tongs because everything looked good. I grabbed what I think was a Bandera, a huge tri-color shortbread cookie that looked like Neapolitan ice cream (photo: https://bit.ly/3xLMQ0C), and then a croissant-like pastry with a buttery lemon filling and dusted liberally with powdered sugar (photo: https://bit.ly/3MThWI2). The best was a sponge cake with a melty flan-like consistency (photo: https://bit.ly/3Oh9XWy). I enjoyed the trio of treats with Jamie W. when I got home, and we agreed they were among the best panaderia goodies we've had. I thought I should come back for a proper meal, which I did earlier today. I could see most of their business was on the savory side of the menu which was quite robust. I had no idea they were famous for their tamales but I'll save those when I come back with Jamie. In the meantime, I ordered the $16.40 Santa Cob Salad with Carnitas, which turned out to be quite a huge bowl of mixed greens, avocado, queso cheese, sweet peppers, corn, black beans, salsa, and crumbled bacon tossed with their house vinaigrette and topped with their tasty carnitas (photo: https://bit.ly/3MSAJ6e). It was deliciously filling, and believe it or not, I couldn't finish it. With an industrious staff, I can see why this spot has a devoted following. FOOD - 4 stars...hey, both sweet and savory delights here, and if calories were not an issue, well... AMBIANCE - 4 stars...a clean, organized operation SERVICE - 4 stars...a no-nonsense crew delivers the goods TOTAL - 4 stars...Mexican done right if like I said, calories were no object RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? Yelp
The spicy Colorado burrito is one of the best that I've had and I've tried Missouri, Tennessee, Texas the central Valley here in California. It was great well worth it.

Ian A.

Yelp
Great variety of tacos and mouthwatering selection of baked good. My wife loved her plate of Baja fish tacos and I had one nopalitos guisados taco and one pescado taco, open-faced with beans and so much avocado! The nopalitos was nice and spicy (medium level spice in my opinion) and the pescado had delicious grilled veggies as well. The side of beans and rice were almost too much since the tacos were so big. I can't wait to get home to try the baked goods my wife picked out!

Isma House Painting F.

Yelp
I recently stop by Casa Latina to try Tamales Chapins', mmm! Delicious yummy yummy. They come in a real Banna's leaf, and serve them with sour cream and salsa. I usually eat two of them, they are good size and the price is good.

Xiomara G.

Yelp
I have to shoutout this spot for my pan de muerto from earlier this month! Super fresh and they had BOTH, sweet & savory kinds! Wasn't too pricey either. I'll be back to try out items from their menu for sure but the place overall is super cute (inside & out) and had awesome music!

Kaitlin K.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible gem in West/Central Berkeley. I had incredible pupusas - they were so good I ordered two more for takeout. Melt in your mouth delicious. Also had a pork tamale verde which was the bomb! The verde sauce had heat and it paired so well with the delicious shell and filling. Could have eaten more of that too. We also had an empanada, it was more flakey crust than I have had before and that was an improvement. It was so light and fluffy as a result, the filling was also delicious. If I wasn't so hard pressed to get good pupusas it would be hard to pick a favorite of these three delicious eats. We circled back to try the baked goods on the way out - everything was amazing. My favorite was the tricolor sugar cookie which had three distinct and delicious flavors. Buttery and chewy. Loved! This place is adorable inside, service is quick and attentive. There are single seats and tables that could fit a larger group of five or more. No outdoor seating but it is January so might be seasonal. Very budget friendly, and amazing quality for the price! Can't wait to plan my next visit back. If I was in the neighborhood more often I would be a regular here. Check it out!

Yelp
Love this place. The food is always wonderful. The bakery items are always delicious. Wash everything down with sangria....who wouldn't love this place!!!

Sandra J.

Yelp
I come here at least once a week. It is hands-down, 100% the best Mexican food in all of the East bay. I said what I said. And the atmosphere is beautiful.

Arlinda P.

Yelp
I'm Mexican, cook at home. But if I have out of town family visiting, I take them here. Food is always amazing -

Martha G.

Yelp
Service is great! We loved the food here, super fresh and super good. My mom had their mole and said its very authentic. Also any spot that has fresh OJ has my heart. It's a super cute spot too. Will definitely be coming back often :) Pictured: flautas con mole, tamal con salsa verde, taco dorado de asada and enfrijoladas con huevo

Yelp
Casa Latina is a lovely spot for Mexican food in San Pablo. I love the decor and artwork. I recently went with a friend and got the chilaquiles with red salsa- be warned of the spice level. I consider myself to have a reasonably high spice tolerance but this was really very hot! The texture of the tortilla chips were perfect. I do wish it was a little less spicy! Service was prompt and we were seated very quickly. Overall the staff were very friendly and I had a nice time.

Yelp
Casa Latina offers some of the best Latin American cuisine in Berkeley!! I highly recommend going to this restaurant if you're looking for this type of food in the area or just want to experience something authentic, relatively inexpensive, and tasty!! This restaurant has two compartments: a bakery/ordering area and an equally spacious annex for dining. After we ordered our food, we observed a selection of baked goods including elephant ears, banana bread, and cookies (which weren't sprinkled). We unfortunately didn't purchase any of these items but would definitely try them in the future!! Since we decided to dine in, we helped ourselves to napkins, utensils, and non-iced water (with straws). As seen in the pictures, the silverware was clean and the straws weren't translucent. Furthermore, our orders were neatly plated in a timely manner. In fact, it only took the Casa Latina employees about 390 seconds from the time we ordered to when our dishes arrived at our table. My dish was the Enchiladas Verdes with chicken and his dish was the Chicken Burrito with sour cream and no guacamole. The Enchiladas Verdes plate was simply exquisite! Down to the presentation, taste, and speed of the dish, everything exceeded my expectations. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant to order the Chicken, given other restaurants' tracks record of dry chicken. However, that's where Casa Latina differentiates itself -- the chicken was moist, seasoned to perfection, and complemented the rice. Speaking of which, the bean-rice ratio was 0.8, which is a metric not found anywhere else on San Pablo Avenue. The Chicken Burrito was superb! His favorite part of this meal was that the rice and chicken were seasoned well with the perfect amount of spice. Additionally, the Burrito's other ingredients were evenly dispersed so no one ingredient was too localized. He mentioned that this is something he found uncommon in burritos as many other restaurants confine certain ingredients in burritos to specific locations. In turn, he sometimes ended up eating bites of mostly sour cream in these restaurants. In terms of his burrito's thermal energy, he couldn't have asked for a better temperature!! The tortilla was crispy yet chewy- a texture balance only found at Casa Latina. In total, I highly recommend checking out Casa Latina.

Yelp
This establishment is beautiful mix of tradition and modern vibes. I sincerely had difficulty trying to figure out what I wanted to order off their breakfast menu because EVERYTHING looked delicious. As the many faces of Frida Kahlo decorating the walls of the establishment looked down upon me, I savored each and every bite of my meal. I got the Spicy Breakfast Enchiladas and indeed everyone at my table wish they had gotten the same. The chorizo had the perfect spicy kick to it. And don't get me starteddddd on the frijoles!!! God bless them for having pan dulce too - I was really craving a concha and boy did they deliver! If someone takes you hear, make no mistake of their intentions - it's a flex.

Yelp
I've been frequenting Casa Latina for years and enjoy what I've tried from the varied menu and appreciate the decor. Since the pandemic began, though, I am going less cause their chicken burritos, one of my staples, is hit or miss. Sometimes they overcook the chicken and this past week, the chicken was cooked well, but had no flavor at all. I'm not sure how you even call it Mexican food, given that! I'll be back on occasion, but am done with the burritos. For better flavor and consistency, I'd suggest Picante on 4th St., though some things there are too pricey. Their burritos are always good, though.

Yelp
East bay burrito review #5 Initial taste 6/7 Meat 5/7 Beans 6/7 Rice 6/7 Tortilla 6/7 Salsa 5/7 Cheese 6/7 Overall 6/7 rounded up. Good size. Good tortilla. Good flavors from all ingredients. The salsa was mostly heat with acid, but I sometimes like that in a burrito. Would have again.
