Casa Madera Review - West Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Casa Madera is a massive, clubby “Tulum-inspired” restaurant on the Sunset Strip, hailing from one of the world’s great epicenters of Yucatan culture… Toronto. Jokes aside, this place is totally serviceable, and if you’re looking to put on a risque outfit and get a little wild with friends on a Friday night, it’s great. Serving as the ground-floor restaurant of  The Mondrian, Casa Madera’s patio is undeniably beautiful with white wood accents, hanging flowers, and very impressive views of the city. The food is fairly average clubstaurant-type food (save for a flavorless burger, which is just plain bad), so we recommend keeping it simple and sticking to ceviches and tacos. And then load up on the real reason you’re probably here: margaritas. Which thankfully are quite good." - Brant Cox

Came here for dinner reservations. The food, service and ambiance were all great. I mentioned to the waitress how I didn’t like spicy drinks so she made mine without the spice. When I went to order the steak tacos, she checked in with me to make sure I was okay with them being a bit spicy. I appreciated her attention to detail. I really liked the vibe and aesthetic here.

This restaurant is FANTASTIC from start to finish, from appetizer and drinks to dessert! The ambiance is fantastic. They had a live violinist and DJ! We got the skirt steak tacos as a starter and they were SO delicious we ordered an additional order. Wonderful restaurant - one of the best in Toronto! A must try! It is pricey but worth it!

I had an incredible experience at Casa Marda. The atmosphere is truly amazing elegant, warm, and full of charm. The food was absolutely outstanding flavorful, beautifully presented, and clearly made with high quality ingredients. What made the evening even more special was the live music. The guitarist was truly talented and brought a soulful, intimate energy to the whole experience. It added a beautiful touch that made the night unforgettable. A must visit if you’re looking for delicious food, a beautiful setting, and live music that elevates the entire vibe.

If I could, I would take half a star for being rushed. The seating is 1.5 hr each and we were about 12 min late. We spent about 10 min on waiting and doing the napkin wave so we only had about an hour to eat. The food and services were all good (oysters were from New Brunswick and they were excellent). At 1230, the waitress brought us the bill to nudge us to give the table back even though there are lots of empty tables around. Overall, I feel if I’m paying $120 for brunch, I should not feel that I have to rush to eat. They should increase the seatings to 2 hours each. Other than that, we enjoyed the brunch very much.

We had the best time celebrating Mother’s day at Casa Madera. We opted for the $120 brunch buffet and it was worth it. There was a steak section, cold bar that had tons of oysters and mussels. There was a breakfast station that had beef bacon, truffle eggs, sausage! The food was tasty and had quality ingredients. This place was vibrant, they had good music, talented entertainers and staff were very attentive. It’s definitely an experience worth paying for. Drinks are definitely overpriced and gratuity is fixed.

Such a great brunch outing with some girlfriends at Casa Madera! We got to partake in savoury and sweet options, plus an extremely fun napkin wave. It was a pleasure being served by Jana - she gave so many recommendations that made it beneficial for our group. She made sure we got to experience all the restaurant had to offer, and was so gracious and warm the entire time she served us. Such a rarity, yet so so appreciated. If dining here, be sure to ask for Jana to ensure you have an enhanced dining experience!

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner and I have to say it was one of my favourite dining experiences I’ve had in quite some time. The ambiance was great, we had accidentally booked our reservation for the following weekend but it wasn’t a problem - the host was very accommodating. Our server was fantastic, offering suggestions that blew us away. We started with the Wagyu and duck tacos before moving to our mains of turbot and pollo asado. I will admit the pollo asado was a bit underwhelming but the turbot was amazing and the tacos were exceptional. We finished with the brown butter tart which I was really impressed with. Great experience overall, I would come back and have already recommended it to multiple people.

We visited this restaurant in late May to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and it was truly a wonderful experience from start to finish. The highlight of our evening was the impeccable service from Marcelo, he was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. Drinks were amazing.

Yelp
This wood house is made for cookin'! Aside from the beautiful decor which is the perfect complement to 1 Hotel, let's talk great food. If you want the full (eye) tasting menu, see below. Worth noting was the spectacular grilled octopus, wild mushroom truffle risotto, and the hunk of beef.

Yelp
Booked Casa Madera for a birthday celebration and it didn't disappoint. The service was excellent and the interior was stunning--really loved the vibe. The tables were a bit small, but that's the style they're going for, I guess. LOL. It was relatively quiet when we arrived around 5pm on a Sunday, just as dinner was starting. We started with an amuse-bouche that seemed like some kind of delicious potato dish, though I can't recall exactly what it was. The Mayan hummus was good but not groundbreaking--definitely better than store-bought, but nothing too special. The tacos were absolutely BOMB, perfectly balanced in terms of meat, toppings, and tortilla, with fantastic flavors. The star of the show was the Casa Tomahawk. It's a huge dish, easily enough for four people. Though pricey, the meat's phenomenal cooking and quality made it worth the expense, and it was served with some simple yet tasty tomatoes and potatoes. We ended with a strawberry ice cream tart which they decorated with a 'Happy Birthday' message, a nice touch reflecting the special note I made in the reservation. The mocktails we tried were so good, they made me want to order more. Overall, Casa Madera delivered great vibes, food, and service. It's pricey, especially if you opt for something like the tomahawk, but well worth it for a special occasion. I'm looking forward to trying their brunch next time since I've heard good things about it.

Yelp
I went here with a few friends because we heard great things about the restaurant. The interior is certainly very nice -- I really like the greenery, very similar to the vibe at 1Kitchen beside it. The restaurant was packed even on a Wednesday night so reservations are definitely recommended. They do have a dress code although not sure how much of it is enforced. Some men do come in suits and women in nice dress, but also you can be more casual as well. They recommend us to order some items to share, so we got the duck tacos, arugula salad, octopus croquettes, tuna timbale, grilled striped bass, along with some drinks. The prices is on the higher end (tacos were $24 for two) considering that it's a hip restaurant on King West. Honestly, I found the flavours to just be okay, nothing was too memorable. It seems that most tables got the old fashion because it gives a good show with the fire, but you're also paying $25 for a cocktail. Overall, I think it's a good place to try out for a date night or with after work social. You can totally find better food elsewhere at lower prices.

Yelp
Went with a reservation waited more than 30 minutes as table wasn't ready. Once seated service staff was great, food was good nothing too special. Ambiance is nice with performers and music. Tacos were okay nothing special, truffle risotto and oysters were amazing.Great for a night out in the city not somewhere I would go often.

Yelp
While staying at the 1 Hotel Toronto, we decided to book a Saturday night reservation for Casa Madera. Our waitress, Charlie was great! They are known for their cocktails & they did not disappoint! Inspired by the elements (earth, wind, water & fire), the cocktails are an experience on their own. I ordered the ATMOSFERA (Mezcal, Gin, Wildflower Honey, Pêche de Vigne, Basil, Lemon, Madeira) & it was not only delicious but the presentation took it over the edge! (see video below) & my guy ordered MI CASA TEPACHE (Housemade charred pineapple tepache, Mezcal, Grapefruit Zest, Lime, Tajin) - HAMACHI SERRANO (fresh lime, cucumber, pickled onion, crispy garlic) Good, very fresh but lacked flavour for me. - HEIRLOOM TOMATO (watermelon, red onion, cilantro pesto, balsamic, black truffle burrata) AMAZING! I could have eaten this all night. - DOVER SOLE (caper brown butter sauce, chili de arbol, lemon brûlée) SOOOO delicious! Would also have eaten this all night! - PACIFICO STRIPED BASS (fennel citrus salad, salsa trio served with corn tortillas) Very fresh & perfectly cooked although I did not eat it in the tortilla with salsas. Simply squeezed some lime over it. Perfect (but the SOLE was my favourite) - SALTED CARAMEL + CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE (swiss meringue, vanilla pavlova kisses, chocolate crumble, crunchy almonds, chocolate ice cream) DELICIOUS! i loved this incredible dessert. Music & vibe was great & would definitely return again & again!

Yelp
If I could I would give this place a 3.5 star not the full 4. The ambiance in this place was awesome - there was definitely a vibe there but I felt everything was just extremely slow and they weren't even busy. The food was interesting, definitely a fusion in flavour but not for my palette. The only thing I actually enjoyed was the filling inside the chocolate ball. I feel if the server was more attentive versus us having to flag her I would've been okay with the full 4 stars. Definitely not on the top of my list of places I'd return too.

Yelp
Ambience - came here on a Sunday night with a group of about 8 people. Loved it. Felt private, cozy. Loved the ambiance. Food & drinks - - Wine - ordered a bottle of Valpolicella (red) great wine! - cocktail - Huracan- brandy forward with hints of honey, blackberry & lime. Earl grey flavoured mist to top off the drink. Amazing presentation, flavourful. Loved it. Would high recommend (recommended by waitress!) - Duck carnitas - was looking for a small entree (as I wasn't as hungry) and drinks, and boy this didn't disappoint. Flavourful, rich, topped with red onions, garlic cream & chipotle salsa. Yum!! Comes with 2x tacos and they were very generous with the duck portions. Would recommend to share or snack! Service- excellent and attentive. Very down to earth, approachable and organized. Attended to our group well, ensured everyone their orders right, and followed up with everyone in a timely manner. They were able to clear the table in a timely manner as well as friendly! Parking- there is a parking garage, directly below the resto. A little confusing getting out of the parking garage, but eventually will find your way into the restaurant if you as hotel staff, or enter via the neighboring bar. Overall 4/5. I would like to try more food, and/or come on a Fri/Sat night to give a true review. But overall enjoyed the experience. Loved the atmosphere. Cozy, chic, private, classy. Loved it! Would come back!

Yelp
The food was really great and the atmosphere was outstanding. We were seated at a corner seat next to the window which was perfect! We enjoyed a seafood tower and oysters among other dishes. For dessert, I ordered the salted caramel chocolate truffle which was delicious! Our waiter was hilarious and made great recommendations on popular dishes to try.

Yelp
Our dinner was off the charts delicious... truly! We consider ourselves discriminating foodies and last night's meal was one of the best meals at a restaurant... ever! The service was exceptional and the ambiance/vibe was perfect. We will definitely return!

Yelp
Great food, brunch has live DJ and performers (dancer, guitar, and drums). I think the price for many of the brunch items were very reasonable ~$20-35 per item with a few unique dishes in the higher range (like the tomahawk 44oz). The natural lighting and plant-heavy decor creates a fun atmosphere for groups and celebrations. My favourites are the octopus and huevos rancheros. The pancakes look great, but they're so filling that it would be better as a shared plate or for someone with a sweet tooth. Would recommend the whole experience!

Yelp
I came here for the first time to try out their cocktails since I was told they offer interesting options. This was proven true, tho as a sour-cocktail person, their selection is pretty small. I got me a Mi Casa Tepache, and the waitress, Lina, offered to make it less sweet since I did say sweet cocktail is not my thing, very sweet of her. My table got a couple of tacos to share: duck carnitas (highly highly recommended) and arracherra. The later smelled / tasted gamey for a beef-based taco, which I found unusual. We also got their lemon dessert, blanca y limon. Extravagant presentation, but tasted mediocre. The lemon flavor was barely there, the strawberry was much more present. One thing the left bad impression for my visit was the waitress' helper. I can't remember his name, but his timing on checking the table was always off. And the cherry on top was when I inquired about the taco's size, where he proceeded to remove the napkin from my plate, and physically touch the inside of my plated with his fingers to give visual representation, instead of opting to making a circle with both hands. He's been walking around to the other tables and who knows what's been touched. Never thought I'd see that in such restaurant.

Yelp
We popped in for a Vday dinner despite being on a very strict food plan for the new year. The restaurant is beautiful- very similar to the Scottsdale location, dark, mysterious, and earthy. As it was Sat night it was quite loud with the DJ and there was a danger and violinist... With our restrictions we unfortunately were unable to try the cocktails but having done so at the other locations and seeing that the options are similar im sure they were delicious. The food was great- what I most appreciated was we needed everything quite "clean" with limited oils, carbs etc and the server did his part to ensure the kitchen was aware and assisted us in our ordering. The hamachi, and artichoke salad was definitely the star of the show- my partner loved his meatballs and the charred broccolini was soooo good! The portions were HUGE. It got a little awkward when the half dressed dancer stood in front of us making eye contact as we ate and started to dance.... BUT I'm sure some love that- lol I just find it weird as I'm putting food in my mouth that someone is dancing in front of me.

Yelp
Ambiance: 4.5/5 - beautiful venue, lighting, decor, etc. music was awesome as well, there was a live dancer and guitar player. I'd say it's a bit of a more romantic vibe, but did go as a group and didn't feel weird in any way. Only reason of giving it 4.5 and not 5 is because it was too loud at some points and hard to converse Service: 4/5 - very good and friendly service. Only reason for the lower star is because we weren't checked up on that much - not that it took away from our dinner or anything, but just comparing to other restaurants, there wasn't as much "follow up". Still overall excellent service though, I'm only being critical because it's a review. Food: Kobe A5: 5/5 my first time trying Kobe, but it was DIVINE. Some of the best meat I've ever had. Loved every single bite.... It's a lot of money, but worth it for me as I'm a steak guy. Fattoush Salad: 3.5/5 - was good but nothing special, didn't feel like there was much value. Pave Potatoes: 4.5/5 excellent. Salsa accompanied with it was good but nothing special. Confit Truffle Potatoes: 4/5 very good Fire grilled ribeye: 4/5 very good, but compared to the Kobe A5, is a lower rating. Still great, but not the BEST steak I've ever had. Would maybe come back and try the tacos next time instead of this? Overall Rating: 4.5/5 excellent restaurant and service ... just a little pricey, but worth it once in a while

Yelp
friend's birthday dinner Great place & amazing staff. The food was a 7/10 $$$ we were a big group so we got to pass the food around which was great because you get to try other food options. My friend booked her birthday dinner at this restaurant they told her cutting one piece of cake that she bought with her own money would cost $15 for one piece of cake LOL ridiculous. The restaurant should put cutting the cake at the table is not optional on their website.

Yelp
Incredible food, service and overall experience. I love the look and feel of this place! Something weird was how big of a deal they made over our reservation for 3 when the entire room was empty up until we left. I understand it's a popular place but very annoying when you need to put a card down and confirm 3-4 times that you're coming. Overall, delicious with amazing live music and drinks so would visit any time I'm around the Toronto area.

Cristina C.

Yelp
The first time I went there was for my birthday last year and absolutely loved it! So much so that we went there again. The food, the atmosphere, ambiance, everything, AMAZING! Service was excellent as well. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The ambiance of this place is one of a kind, I'm talking DJ spinning trendy chill house with a live violinist walking around! Table side cocktails that play to all of your senses! Amazing people watching scene as well. The staff is personable and knowledgeable everything has a classy yet unique flair to it. I had the Turbot which was cooked perfectly, it was delicate yet delightfully seasoned even the tacos we ordered for the table were amazing ! This place is a definite 10/10 would eat at again and again and again!!' Go with a group and share and graze to get a true feeling for this culinaryp journey of a restaurant
google avatar

Yelp
The ambiance. GORGEOUS! There's also a violinist that plays modern music and accompanies the edm in the background. Plus a tasteful dancer that goes around the restaurant. I was with my girlfriend visiting from NY. We ordered a bunch of things to try. The tacos were the best I've had in Toronto. Hands down. The duck tacos are a must. The ceviche and scallops were extremely fresh. The mushroom risotto was exceptional and I'm usually not the biggest fan of risotto. Service was great. He was very attentive, great and very honest with his suggestions!

Yelp
Casa Madera offers a cool atmosphere and great music that sets the mood just right. While the food may not be exceptional, it still hits the spot. Overall, it's a nice spot to unwind and enjoy a casual meal.
google avatar

Tim O.

Yelp
Tiny tables, huge plates. Casa Madera has all the makings of a successful clubby restaurant, and presents a formidable, differentiated product. The cap steak here for $120 was actually worth every exchange-rate-advantaged penny. Live music and dancing made the splurge even more worthwhile. There's a fine line to walk here, but Casa Madera is keeping its balance just fine
google avatar

Yelp
I visited this restaurant on a Sunday evening for dinner with a couple of friends. The ambience is amazing! You feel like you're transported into nature. 4 star The food was also really good. I ordered the truffle risotto, which could've had more truffle taste. I also ordered the steak which was OK way too chewy and dry. I ordered the lobster which was way too salty. The heirloom, tomato salad was decent, could've used some salt. And then hummus was ok. The lobster was the saltiest lobster I've ever had. The food would get 3.5 stars. However, the service was very poor. Unfortunately, it spoiled the experience due to delays in service. Very disappointing. The manager was very accommodating. Overall great food and ambience, but would expect better service.

Yelp
My friends and I found this place on TikTok when we were looking for a good brunch spot that would help our hangover lol. We came in and they sat us down super quickly. Our waiter was SO sweet. She was so attentive and kind. I got the Huevos Rancheros and the hummus appetizer and it was all just what we needed. In the end, we asked our waiter for recommendations on dinner restaurants since we are from out of town and she was so helpful. She gave us a whole list of great places and was more than happy to help us find what we were looking for. I will say that this is not the place to have a quiet brunch/lunch since they have performers and music but it was great for us.

Yelp
As you enter the ambiance is amazing! Live dancing and she was holding a scent, relaxing. Along with live violin. Beautiful ambiance and love performance. We are so lucky to have Roberts as our server. Professional, knowledgeable and excellent recommendations and explaining every drink and dish to us. When you call to make a reservation, make sure to ask for Roberts! Robert with an "s". Roberts was so knowledgeable and so patiently helped us select our drinks. The cocktail were categorized as different elements, earth, air, fire, water. I ended up picking both theatrical one, I picked an air cocktail smoke bubble and the plata paraiso , it was like a spa in a cup with the Blanco Tequila, Watermelon, Coconut Water, Benedictine, Lime, Agave, Eucalyptus & Cinnamon Fog. The fog you can smell the Eucalyptus. Both drinks were beautiful and good flavour profile! We enjoyed it. So it wasn't just for the theatrical component. Roberts then recommended the Heirloom Tomato watermelon, red onion, cilantro pesto, balsamic, black truffle burrata. Honestly, as I was going through the menu, I wanted to skip the salad part because I usually hate salads and tomatoes. Thankfully Roberts suggested that we order this salad. One of his favourite on the menu. The Heirloom tomato turned out to be phenomenal, this changed my view towards salad. So many flavour profile going on and umami. The burrata was so fresh. So delicious. Moving onto the Chile Pulpo $38.00 sweet corn puree, chives, marcona almonds, chile de arb was not dried at all and it was a good balance. The shrimp taco, the shrimp was just the right size and sweet. I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it so much that I forgot to take a photo. Last but not least, the Arrachera $25.00 wagyu skirt steak, caribbean jerk marinade, cilantro, pineapple, red onion, avocado cream, cotija. Roberts our server is an A+ server and we can add him to our profile everytime we come back and of course I did! I will definitely come back to try other drinks and items on the menu. A dining experience full of surprises. Excellent!

Yelp
Food was top notch and service was great too. Presentation for cocktails was very cool and the Risotto had the most amazing flavor. Very $$ so be prepared but always nice to have an experience this good.

Yelp
Part of a longer review "Swanky restaurants that gloat about immersive dining experiences can sometimes miss the mark when it comes to the main event--food and beverage. True to its immersive experience, Casa Madera prides itself on an eclectic and theatrical cocktail program. The beverage menu contains pages of alcoholic concoctions as well as non-alcoholic and low-proof selections. Every single one is guaranteed to be showstoppingly stunning, and perhaps even lit on fire table-side, as is the case with the Solstice ($25) - a tequila, passionfruit and spice-infused creation. Rest assured that executive chef Olivier Le Calvez doesn't skip a beat when it comes to the food, either. The Mexican-born chef infuses his knowledge of Mexican and coastal cuisines to deliver an inventive menu using many ingredients from a 100-kilometre radius. Some organic crops--from onions and peppers to herbs and edible flowers--are even picked from the on-site garden pavilion..."

Yelp
FOOD: 8/10 DRINKS: 9/10 VIBE: 9/10 SERVICE: 9/10 Loved the exquisite boho ambiance that transports you to Tulum. This place offers high-end Mexican and Mediterranean cuisines with beautiful dish presentation, but an okay taste -- nothing really made me excited. In the evenings, there's a DJ who plays deep house music, as well as performers and dancers roaming across the room. What makes this place unique is their cocktail presentations -- whether your drink is covered in fog, fire or ice, I'm sure you'll catch some Instagram-worthy shots!

Yelp
My friend and I went to Casa Madera for dinner on Saturday night and we had a great experience! The venue itself is beautifully decorated with a lot of natural woods and plants and low lighting. They had live entertainment, including a DJ, bassist, and dancers. They serve a cocktail with cinnamon that they light on fire at your table. Overall, the atmosphere is very exciting but it's still quiet enough to enjoy a conversation with the people you are dining with! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some great recommendations. They suggest you get plates for sharing which is exactly what we did. We had the shrimp ceviche, grilled octopus, fattush salad, and seasonal veggies which was roasted carrots in a yogurt sauce. My favourite dish was the grilled squid and least favourite was the salad. Overall though, everything was well cooked and seasoned nicely! I also tried the non-alcoholic sangria and it was good. It tasted similar to a fruity orange juice. Expect to spend at least $100 per person here for a nice dinner experience. I will definitely be back and would recommend this restaurtuarnt if you are looking for a good atmosphere and good medditeranean food in Toronto.

Yelp
What an experience! It's pricier than ever to go out for dinner now, so why not choose a spot that offers it all - great food, service, and ambiance? It all begins from the moment you step through the doors. The music, decor, and lighting create a luxurious setting for a special evening. We celebrated a birthday and it will be a night we will always remember. We chose to share so we ordered a variety of dishes including the tuna timbale, heirloom tomato, Pacifico striped bass, fire grilled ribeye (wagyu is delish), and of course a couple of desserts - salted caramel + chocolate truffle, and blanca y limon. Lina was a lovely and helpful server. Oh and if you like people watching, this is a great spot to do that too ;) Thank you for a wonderful evening, Casa Madera!

Yelp
Nestled in the rebranded Thompson Hotel AKA The 1 Hotel, is Casa Madera. The interior was absolutely stunning, it transports you to Tulum with the greenery, decor and music. Hamachi Serrano: This was delicious, the lime, cucumber, pickled onion and crispy garlic added freshness, tanginess and crunchiness Aji Panca Tuna: I felt the tuna wasn't the greatest as the flavors fell flat and the cut of fish wasn't buttery Arrachera Taco: This was essentially a "wagyu" steak taco with jerk seasoning. The steak was diced and pieces so small that they were very easily dry and overcooked. I was very disappointed in this Tiger Shrimp Taco: This was good, no complaints but definitely not amazing Fire Grilled Ribeye: It came with a 10oz ribeye and bone marrow, you pair the two together it was delicious. I recommend this if you decide to visit Risotto: Ok this was the probably the worst risotto I ever had. It tasted like congee as it was too runny but some pieces of the rice were undercooked. Chile Pulpo: This octopus dish was everyones favorite of the night. It was tender and full of umami and the sweet corn puree was sweet. Heirloom Tomato salad: This was okay, an average burrata salad. I couldn't really taste the black truffle part of the burrata tho Even though the food was good overall, theres a few kinks that need to be worked out. We brought a cake for a birthday, which they said wasn't allowed to be served and never told us in advanced. I mean I understand not allowing balloons because it affects the overall look of the place but cake?! Additionally when the server brought our bills she said we weren't allowed to split it. This ended up not being the case when we spoke to a manager who realized we could but that the server didn't know how. They tried to make up for the experience by sending a complimentary bottle of prosecco but some people still left with a bad impression. I personally would come back in the future after they solve these issues

Yelp
Okay so this place is Over. The. Top. In a good way? Mostly. The cocktails are OTT. The live violinist is OTT. The delicious food is OTT. The chick wandering around with a pot of burning sage is... weird... and OTT. And the prices- the PRICES- are OTFreakingT. But I still think you should go. My friends and I came here as part of our dinner club. We try to go to all the buzzy spots and this one was hard to reserve at so natch it was high on our list. First off, walking in is a major wow. The place is beautiful. There are several different areas and honestly there doesn't seem to be a bad seat. There's a wandering violinist who is connected to the DJ's house music, and yes... there is a random chick wandering around dancing and burning sage. Unless someone just came in off the street, but I doubt it. Cocktails are an event. Everywhere you look you see a server releasing a plume of smoke from a tumbler, or lighting a drink on fire. At $25 each, I was looking for a cocktail that might by me dinner, but hey... I can't even find a man to do that so... As for the food: you have a decision to make. Try to go easy on the wallet and leave hungry, or splurge out, enjoy yourself, and just forget that your dinner will equal a lease payment for a Tesla. (can you lease a Tesla?) Fact is, all the food here is super good. The ceviche was bright and interesting- more than just an acid bomb. The octopus seems to be universally loved. My fave bite was the A La Plancha- these gorgeous grilled vegetables in a balsamic dressing. Honestly I rolled my eyes when my friend ordered them but so good. Same with the artichokes and manchego. The tacos were great, though I found the duck ones a little tough- not a good first date choice. The shrimp tacos were lovely and I recommend them. We were going to get into the bigger entrees like the decadent sounding truffle risotto, but to be honest we were so full at this point we had to stop... so that we had room for dessert. This was the one disappointment of the night. The salted caramel and chocolate truffle was so sweet we could hardly get through it. Here's a fact: we're probably going into a recession, gas prices are nuts, a war is raging, there's something called MONKEY POX, and billionaires are going into space. If there ever was a time to spend $19 on a single scallop, this might just be it. So do it. Yelp
Earnest and manic. Too many staff hovering near us, some with cameras, like we're in a social experiment. Manager insisted on shaking hands on entry. During a particularly contagious part of the pandemic. I get the no masks thing but please don't insist on touching customers. Our server, who reminds us a little of Kath in After Life, grabs my cashmere sweater sleeve without warning to clean a camera lens. Without permission. An expensive cashmere sweater that I wore because it was my birthday. Tables are tiny and narrow. Food comes out of the kitchen too quickly. They ask us to move things. They try to take not-empty dishes of food. Support staff are otherwise great. Water and dropped napkins are refilled and replaced rapidly. Unfortunately the server and some managers are "too familiar" with us. Stay too long talking, asking our opinions. Food ranges from excellent to very good to good. Kitchen is great with accommodating dietary restrictions. Bahia Vieira is excellent. Chile pulpo and whipped aubergine are absolutely delicious. Everything is sprinkled with beautiful edible flowers. Kudos to the kitchen staff. Cocktails are flavourful and interesting. ($21 for non alcoholic beverages is highway robbery, though.) I order a pineapple tepache cocktail. It's out of stock. I go with plan b. Bill lists at least one upcharge not disclosed on the brand new menu. Whipped aubergine ($22) says it comes with pita. However, we were charged $5 extra for pita. Not cool to nickel and dime. There are two Prosecco by the glass listed on the menu. They charge for the more expensive one. We were not offered a dessert menu. However, I'm thankful for the birthday chocolate ganache type of dessert they send out. Very kind. Lovely calligraphy. Atmosphere is loud, with live guitarist roaming the space. Shaman dancer lady in sexy macrame dress wafts by periodically to incense tables. If you don't like smoke or fragrance, be warned. Chef came out to meet the VIP gossip columnist at the nearby corner table (where presumably they had more space for their food, too). Is there anything worse than feeling second class when spending good money and taking a risk on a brand new menu? It's no Quetzal. It's more South Beach than Toronto, by design. I'm sure it will appeal to those it's designed for -- younger with more open wallets. The macrame'd shaman has work to do.

Yelp
Brunch was delicious, the casa omelette was exquisite, the dish presentation was appealing, the services exceeded my expectations, and the restaurant decor Tulum style.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and drinks before a night out and wow, what a cool vibe. They had a violinist playing live in the restaurant to the beat of the live DJs music. The drinks were crafted perfectly and the dishes were great to share. Highly recommend!

Yelp
A wonderful experience, exceptional cocktails (artistic), fantastic food and exquisite atmosphere. A very big plus was the tremendously professional service by Sai. He made our evening exceptional. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Worst experience of my life especially due to management being careless. It seems I'd have to be an influencer for them to care. This whole experience has been unfortunate as my friends and colleagues had good experiences previously now I can't stomach returning or recommending.

Yelp
We booked this restaurant because it was supposedly the number #1 restaurant in downtown Toronto. If you are looking for good food. Don't do it. If you are looking for a pretty place with drinks , very nice ambiance. Pace of the meal was off. We waited 40 min for entrees. Food was sweated out under a heat lamp and nothing spectacular. If you normally fine wine and dine, this place doesn't register. Meal started out with decent starter and salad. Burrata / tomato Salad 3.5/5 ( good flavors) Hamachi appetizer 3.5 /5 Duck and beef Tacos 1/5 ( they recommended, way too chewy and sweated out under heat lamp ) Steak 2/5 (medium rare , came out med ) Lobster 3/5 ( bit chewy ) Overall , service and decor was good. I was hoping for a epic food journey. This one did not hit the spot.

Yelp
An incredibly unique dining experience in the city that transports you to a resort in the middle of a Toronto winter. The lighting was very dim, quite romantic for a date night and the live music was a bonus. We had a guitar player perform directly in front of our table. Drink presentation and taste was top notch, all the food was equally delicious. I came here for a birthday celebration, as much fun as it was, it was a splurge and not budget friendly. For a table of 2, the grand total was between $500-600 (2 drinks each, 2 appetizers, 2 mains and 1 dessert)

Yelp
Initially I had a great experience. It was easy to book a reservation. I thought the atmosphere was great, servers were nice and the food was above average. I liked the octopus, scallops and steak. I got very annoyed in the end when the server tried to pull a fast one on us. One of our friends left early and paid $150 on the bill. When I received the bill I questioned why the $150 was not deducted from our bill. The server said "oh your friend had a separate tab" We shared all the food and did not open a separate tab. I told the server to show me that tab he's talking about. 10 minutes later, he presented us with a new bill with the new total. Our bill was already over $2000 and I thought it was very unethical to cheat customers like that. If they apologized after I pointed it out the first time, I wouldn't be as irritated. Check your bill!

Yelp
Our waiter Marcelo was lovely, passionate, polite, knowledgeable, professional, and very service-oriented. He truly made our night along with the other staff and performers.

Yelp
As the supposed Tulum of Toronto, this restaurant came with plenty of hype and flair. The interior is beautiful, and they curate an easygoing jungle party vibe from their service down to the music. The service was great, but the food was definitely a miss to me. My favourite bite of the evening was the hamachi crudo, but most of the dishes were simply average and missed for a variety of reasons - whether they were underseasoned and had no punch to them, were simply flat in flavour, or just didn't have the right balance. The cocktails were quite interesting, though I felt they were more flair than substance and again were missing the balance in flavours. The one dessert I really liked was the peanut butter mousse, as the sponge toffee with peanut butter mousse and chocolate sauce came together for a great bite (crunchies are my favourite chocolate bar!). Other than that, their menu was definitely creative and presentation was beautiful, but there's always room for improvement. Overall I thought it was pretty overpriced for what it was as well, and I probably wouldn't come back here for the food - maybe for drinks only, as the vibe was nice.

Yelp
The ambience is pretty nice it's a little too light for my taste however, if you're into that kind of thing, it's great! Food is on point and the drinks are delicious. Service is fairly on point though it felt a little fabricated. However, it's all good! At the end of the day, I enjoyed my meal and drinks with my company.

Yelp
The cocktail menu was extensive, drinks innovative with refreshing concepts. Raw bar appetizers were excellent as was the heirloom tomato salad. They made a mistake and our appetizers came out at the same time as our entrees. There was literally nowhere to put them on the table. So the server admitted it was a mistake and took the entrees away however they must have put the entrees under the heat lamp while we finished the apps (20min) because when the entrees were served they were dry and overcooked. The striped bass was inedible. The Dover sole was ruined. I'm sure it would've been perfectly cooked if they had not made the mistake with the timing. For 70$ an entree is this is unacceptable. They did not comp the dish.

Yelp
Food 4/5: pretty good but portions are on the small side and just above average quality Price 1/5: really pricy for what you get. I asked if I could bring a cake for my friend's birthday and they said it was a $15 cutting fee per person. I think they win the award for highest cale cutting fee in town Ambiance 5/5: really nice inside with background musicians

Yelp
My colleague had a severe allergy attack here due to server and manager error. They followed up advising they'd make it right then ignored her when the time came therefore following through on nothing. I will no longer be taking my clients here. Do the right thing, Casa Madera.

Yelp
Worst non-experience ever! We made a reservation and added a note to ask for a high chair for a toddler. Everything looked fine, we called the day before to make sure that they had the note and that everything was ok. A man on the phone assured us that it was the case. When we showed up the next day two very rude ladies at the reception desk told us that we couldn't access the restaurant because it was "21+". For a Sunday lunch...unbelievable!

Yelp
Brings a whole new element to Toronto. Can't wait to go back again and enjoy another cocktail EXPERIENCE. This place is fire. I personally loved the Atmosphera (gin based cocktail with SMOKE) and the Solstice (tequila based and that's literally on FIRE). My husband had the old fashioned and they put it together in front of you. Food was also on point! It's the oysters and surf and turf for me. Also, they had live string instruments that paired so well with the DJ, creating a very cool atmosphere. Servers were also very knowledgeable and professional. It's a whole v i b e and I look forward to returning!
