Consistent with its name, this cozy restaurant tucked away off of 6th is like eating a mom-cooked meal. The restaurant setting is a beautiful fusion of classic fixtures and modern concepts. Each table has its own fun variety of glassware and dishes. The eclectic music fills the space, but in a way that complements and accentuates the other sensory experiences. The food was stellar. We started with the tender herbs salad (zingy, lightly dressed, fresh, and served with a garlicky baguette toast) and the gambas al ajío (like a hug - buttery, garlicky, bright, slightly sweet). I had the chile relleno (kind of the style you might have in the Yucatán or close to the Caribbean Sea - the chile was stuffed with queso oaxaqueño and served with arroz cremoso, black beans, plantanes maduros, and avocado). My partner had the chicken picatta special, which looked perfectly cooked. We ended the night with their house-made ice creams, which blew our minds. One was a date ice cream with warm spices and the other was a honeycomb-caramel ice cream with a dark chocolate swirl. Needless to say, we left stuffed and happy! Please give this spot a visit for any occasion. Note that we did make a reservation and they were full the Saturday night that we went (it’s a small, intimate restaurant), so probably best to make a res.
