Casa Masa - The Landings

Google
Casa Masa delivers an authentic traditional Mexican food experience like no other in the area. They have perfected the right combination of quality food, delicious colorful flavors and friendly fast service. Everything we ordered was amazing and delicious. I would certainly put this on my top 5 for dining out. And the beer was nice and cold. Highly recommend!

Google

If you’re on the hunt for bold flavors, satisfying and refreshing drinks, and a place that just feels like your new go-to, Casa Masa checks all the boxes and then some. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and an upbeat, welcoming vibe. The atmosphere is lively but not overwhelming—think rustic charm meets vibrant, festive energy. Perfect for a casual lunch spot, a night out, or even a spontaneous margarita fix. Let’s talk about the food: absolutely delicious. The chips came out warm and crisp, paired with fresh salsa that had just the right amount of kick. Every dish that hit the table was packed with flavor and clearly made with care. Portions are generous, so come hungry or plan to leave with leftovers. And the drinks? Top-tier. We came on Margarita Monday! Their margaritas are strong, well-balanced. The bartender definitely knew what she was doing. What really sealed the deal for us was the staff. Attentive, friendly, and genuinely excited about the food they’re serving—it makes all the difference. You can tell there’s pride in the service and a real desire to make your experience memorable. Highly recommend—i was already planning my comeback before leaving.

Google
First time here and it was nice. We had a nice waitress/bartender and she was delightful. The food was good I had the birria tacos and my husband the carne asada. Though mine was good he wished they used cheese that was melted but he got another type of cheese. So he thought it was okay. But for a not traditional Mexican restaurant it was nice and viby. Would come back, they add there twist to the food which is pretty interesting.

Google
Really cool little place. Unique menu - things I've certainly never seen on a menu. As a vegetarian, I really appreciated the options here. A sweet potato taco and brussels without bacon - it was delicious. The bartender was nice, too.

Google
First off, Chachi provided outstanding service and spot-on recommendations! What started as an unplanned stop has now become our official must-visit whenever we’re in the area—and we've already told our friends. The lobster enquites, tacos, and drinks… wow! This isn’t just food—it’s crafted.

Google
Our first time and it was fantastic. So unique! Right from the start, house made blue corn chips fried in beef tallow paired with a fresh huge bowl of guacomole. Then we enjoyed amazing foods I can pronounce- but loved every bite! The Mole sauce was out of this world. If you want Tex-Mex take a pass. If you want to delight in lovingly prepared special dishes you won’t find anywhere else. Don’t miss this!

Kristie S.

Google
Great service, great food and amazing cocktails! I had the smoke show. A nice mezcal cocktail with natural sweetness from the pineapple juice only. The tacos were amazing! I had Brussels sprouts and grilled octopus. 10/10. I will be back for more.

Yelp
What a great find. The Holy Mole Martini was a masterpiece. The very personable bar manager explained how they blend the Mole with vodka. The result was surprisingly smooth hints of Mole Poblano, chocolate, and espresso; easy-drinking and delicious. The mild yellow rice on the side was moist and full of flavor. The Enchiladas with Huitlacoche were perfectly savory and rich. We hadn't found the black corn mushroom, Huitlacoche, on a menu in forever but this was even better than we remembered. The Tlayuda was a Mexican pizza on a large homemade crispy blue corn tortilla with black bean paste, queso Oaxaca, and other toppings. For protein, we added Al Pastor. The slices held like a New York thin crust pizza, making it easy to the three sauces on the salsa tray. The green was a mild avocado cilantro sauce, the medium red, and a lighter but way more fiery red had to be chilis de arbol. The quesadilla was huge and each one was a full meal. My brother in law didn't share any of it though. This is a gourmet authentic Mexican restaurant with a Oaxacan emphasis. With the cutting edge cocktails, foods housemade and fresh, flavors at maximum, this is a must stop whenever we are passing through the area.

Yelp
First time here and I wish we had tried it sooner. Great taco's . Their chips they serve with the queso and Guacamole is outstanding! They use the same for their taco's but are soft. Reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Terrific service as our waitress was very busy and I got tired just watching hustle all evening. A plain Jane restaurant with indoor, outdoor and bar seating.

Yelp
Holy hell. Trying to type this but I'm having a hard time with where to start... I am in town for two nights and was in the mood for tacos, Casa Masa is an obvious fan favorite on Yelp and I decided that since I have no place to be the :20 minute drive is worth it. I drove right past it (shares a building with a tattoo parlor) when I walked in there are very few tables, this is a really small space but the vibe is vibing from the moment you walk in. I started with fresh chips and ordered small orders of queso, guac and salsa. Much to my surprise my order came with a variety of sauces with it. All were good though I skipped one that smelled spicy as I am no good with spice (at least I know my faults). I grab my order: 3 tacos- a birria, a pork belly and an al pastor. All three are phenom. They're larger than I was expecting and in no way should I have eaten three but here we are. The pork belly is so moist, tender and flavorful, it was also the easiest (read: least messy?) to eat. The birria was overflowing with flavor and well, just overflowing. A huge portion and it was super delicious albeit a little messier to eat. The staff appreciated my struggle and brought napkins to my outdoor table. I must have used 5 eating this. No regrets. None. The Al pastor was my favorite I think because the ingredients were perfectly balanced and the pineapple was so juiced and fresh. I can't say enough good things. When I ordered to go I had every intention of scooping my food and driving :20 back to my hotel, but I was starving so I decided to stay. The staff was wonderful, so attentive and kind. If you're in town, don't skip. If you live here: you are so lucky, I'd trade so many of my local spots for something like this at home!

Yelp
My boys wanted Mexican, and we decided to try this place based on reviews. Casual spot in a shopping center but the tacos were delicious! The Brussel sprout taco was amazing and the fish not bad either. They also had excellent queso. My three hungry boys were happy. Servers were kind and helpful. All in all a good meal- a bit expensive but that seems to be the area.
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
There was plenty seating and the area inside was tidy. Lindsey, our waiter, was kind and gave us an overview of the menu and their three sauces. I went for the blue corn tortilla and protein quesadilla. It was great, even though I had never tried blue corn tortillas. It was a pleasant spot to enjoy lunch and cocktails with friends, and the menu was straightforward.

Yelp
This review is for the casa masa on the key. Went for happy hour and the margaritas were great skip the mojito no bueno. Quite a few tacos to choose from-tried the carnitas pork belly and sweet potato. I wish the carnitas had more char but they are pretty good size and tasty. Also tried the nachos and they were just ok. Pretty busy place sit downstairs or outside as the upstairs was pretty boring and felt forgotten. Will definitely go back as they just opened and probably still working things out.
google avatar

Dennis S.

Yelp
High quality food. Higher than your typical Mexican place. Pricier but worth it. busy little place

Desiree L.

Yelp
We loved this little local hidden gem! I had an oxtail taco and a pescado taco while my husband had a burrito. Everything came out super hot and fresh and quick! The service was amazing and they weren't too busy so they brought our food right out to us and offered to clean up our table. Even though we ordered at the counter we were treated like a sit down restaurant and it was really nice. We would definitely come back for more!

Yelp
It was busy when we stopped in at Casa Masa at The Landings for dinner. They have some seating inside and more seating in front and along the side of the restaurant, we opted for a couple of seats outside. Aside from being face to face with another couple who were inside looking out as we were outside looking in, the spot was fine for us. For dinner I decided to try some tacos, their Carne Asada and Pollo. They looked very nice lined up on a tray when they arrived after about 10 minutes. I'm not big on Mexican food so the best tacos in town probably wouldn't excite me, so I'll defer to the other very positive reviews on Yelp. At home I dump a bunch of salsa on the tacos we occasionally have, so without that I thought my tacos were a little dry. The cheeses used, Cotija and Queso fresco, contributed to that feeling. I had looked at their website prior to our visit and they showed a limited menu for this location. What they actually offer is what they offer at their Bee Ridge location, which has more items including burritos.
google avatar

Yelp
Laid back vibe with patio seating and a bar. Ordered a variety of tacos which were all good very fresh and full of flavor. The emmoladas de polllo was very good with the molle negro was great....smoky and sweet. We enjoyed the maragaritas. One heads up, we asked for hot sauces and they provided a trio. All were good but be warned the hot is scorching and can be too much, so dribble lightly. Great service and good food.

Yelp
This is the third time I've been here in two weeks. The first 2 times, I was by myself. I have throughly enjoyed it. The service is amazing and the staff are friendly. The decor is upscale and sophisticated. It was clean which is a make or break for me when it comes to any restaurant. The food, compliments to the chef, is to die for. The third time I came, I was with a group of 11 and the service was like, I was myself. This is my new favorite restaurant.

Ryan L.

Yelp
Awesome experience here, they accompanied everything and were so friendly! And the food was great!!
google avatar

Jonathan A.

Yelp
Some of the best tacos I've ever had. I ordered Birria, Pollo, and Carne Asada. Small restaurant space that packs a punch.
google avatar

Elizabeth Z.

Yelp
Favorite meal we've had here so far. Little hole in the wall vibes, not much seating and a small bar. You order at a window then they bring it to you. Guacamole was awesome and the chips stole the show. Fresh with great flavor. Tacos were also EXCELLENT. Service was quick and you can see why so many locals make this a stop on their way home from a busy work day. Don't pass this place up.
google avatar

Yelp
NEW LOCATION now in The Landings Plaza in Sarasota Fl. Limited menu but very fresh and scratch. We ordered a chicken taco, chips & pico de gallo and chicken quesadillas. I really love the micro cilantro too. Service was great. Much more seating to eat here than the other location. LOVE THAT! Will be back.
google avatar

Brandon L.

Yelp
Great taco shop! We had lunch and some cocktails, great atmosphere and service. We started with chips and queso, great appetizer. We all got different tacos, Al Pastor, Carne Asada, Pollo, Pulpo, and Birria. Not a scrap left on any of our plates. Definitely a place I would revisit. Staff was super nice and helpful. Their homemade hot sauces are great, but use caution, the hot is hella hot!
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Kind of cool euro-trendy decor. Not what I'd expect at a taco shop. The Bartender was very nice. The birria taco was ok. The meat chunks were very large and the cheese was in one large glob instead of spread out. The meat by itself was not very seasoned but the consume made up for that. The duck carnitas were tasty but too much cabbage and the tortilla fell apart too easily. I'll give it another shot and get the oxtail taco next time.
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
This one was a happy accident, and I was admittedly hesitant when initially looking over the menu- as several things didn't ring authentic to me, and they aren't. But still absolutely delicious. There are a few vegetarian options, even just by simply omitting the meats. But if I were to use one word it would be "fresh". The pico de gallo had to have been made minutes before we ate it, and I might be only slightly facetious but it literally tasted like someone had just made it. Even your basic bean burrito had such piquant flavours-not boring in the slightest. My husband got the shrimp, chicken, and carne asada tacos and inhaled them. The staff are so kind and obviously love their job. The ambiance is relaxed with dios de los muertos (sp?) artwork that is certainly Instagram worthy. But you go for the food, so much so we forgot to take pictures because we were so busy devouring it. Don't sleep on this place because it's different from your average Mexican menu. No regrets, and you're welcome!
google avatar

Yelp
Want specialty tacos with unique proteins? This is the spot for flavors and textures you wouldn't normally find elsewhere. Oxtail taco - its incredibly flavorful but a bit on the salty side. The oxtail is soft with the texture of a perfectly done braised beef but in a more chunky form. Duck confit taco - a bit on the subtle side but all the ingredients come through and the plum sauce on the side is perfect for dipping or garnishing. These tacos are not your average size and are a bit larger but also obviously cost a bit more . I got the pricier variations running 8-9 each taco but it was worth it. Will come again for more

Kristina V.

Yelp
Terrible food. Steak tacos were all cabbage... no meat. El Pastor was burnt. Birria taco tasted awful. Kid's quesadillas taste like nasty canned chicken. Chips are quarter inch thick..... Food is horrible maybe people come here for drinks... don't understand the hype. Pricey too!
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
We tried 4 tacos and all of them had great tasting meat that was very tender. Some of the flavor from the meat got lost once eaten as the taco in its entirety. I would definitely go again to try the others! Especially considering the day specials. The staff was also very nice, helpful and willing to share about the quality and back story of the business. Restaurant was small on the I said r but we had the place to ourselves for a bit - diners turning over quickly and some outside seating. No bathroom that we noticed. Don't miss this one if in the area!

Yelp
Last week, I found myself down on Bee Ridge killing time before an appointment. I happened upon this amazing little taco shop called Casa Masa. They make their tortillas fresh daily from blue corn masa. I decided to try the lamb birria and the pork al pastor. The food came out quickly and it looked really good. The lamb birria was very flavorful and well seasoned. The pastor taco was equally tasty and hit the spot. They had counter service and the girl that helped me was super friendly. Overall, my experience was great and I would definitely return.

Debra H.

Yelp
Delicious and inventive tacos in blue corn tortillas. Super casual, lots of flavor, friendly service.

Yelp
We found this little family run restaurant on our recent visit to Sarasota. It's a small place with about five tables and a bar counter. The beautiful graffiti artwork (both outside and inside the establishment) pays homage to Mexican aesthetic. Service was quick and friendly. The owner/manager is very welcoming and helpful. The food is amazing here! We had the guacamole with their homemade chips for appetizers; next we tried the lechón burrito bowl and three different tacos for entrée. We had the oxtail taco (the best of the three in our opinion), the pork al pastor as well as the carne asada tacos. Everything was freshly prepared and absolutely delicious! Definitely worth a visit. The price is a bit on the higher side for the taco portions but the flavors make it worthwhile. We'll definitely be back here on our next visit to Sarasota.

Yelp
My go to taco spot in town! You can taste the effort and care they put into their food here. Not only are the tacos good but their unique menu features some really tasty creations with a rotation of unique exotic proteins. They take pride in every component of what we're going to enjoy and you can taste it. They make their own blue corn tortillas from scratch every day and pretty much everything is made in-house! Every time I come into Sarasota I stop and grab some tacos or a Mexican pizza if I'm really hungry. My favorites are the chicken tacos and lamb birria tacos, but I haven't had a taco I haven't loved from here! Each taco is bursting with protein so 3 is more than enough for a large meal. Be sure to ask for their tomatillo salsa which goes best on the chicken. It's an order at the counter type of place and the service gives great recommendations too. If you're thinking of coming at prime dinner time you might want to call ahead for pickup because they get pretty busy. There is limited seating as well so if you come with a party have someone snag an open table while you wait to order. One of my favorite parts of the restaurant are the absolutely beautiful live edge wood tabletops too. Even typing out this review I'm starting to crave these tacos!
google avatar

Ric A.

Yelp
Nice staff, small interior. Steak taco the filling was great the purple Tortilla was soft soggy and ruined the taco. I despise colored tortillas. When I said a crunchy taco she should have told me they don't have crunchy tacos I would have rather went to Mi pueblo
google avatar

Judy T.

Yelp
Excellent taco's ... great customer service. Outside patio for dog. So much selection z
google avatar

Bev J.

Yelp
Wow! What a find! New location and it was incredible! Made From scratch and such wonderful flavors! Monica is the manager and was kind and welcoming. We can't wait to go back to try 6 more different tacos. You won't regret this choice!
google avatar

Ed A.

Yelp
Sat at the bar on 2/1 and had very good service. Blue tortilla chips and guacamole are incredible. The queso was bland. Great cocktails, old fashioned and Cosmo. The birria taco and oxtail taco was great. The enmoladas de pollo was very tasty and enough for two meals. Best Mexican food in Sarasota. Only wish the music was not as loud.
google avatar

Angeleen A.

Yelp
Hole in the wall. Love the quaint feel. I loved the pork pineapple taco, the pineapple was grilled and delicious. I normally dont like pineapple in my tacos but that was a nice touch. I wasnt a fan of the birria tacos. It wasnt shredded meat, instead the meat was chunky and since it wasnt shredded didnt absorb flavors so it wasnt very flavorful. I left it after 1 bite
google avatar

Heather D.

Yelp
Loving the second Casa Masa location! If you want some of the same amazing food, plus some new menu additions, signature cocktails, and friendly table service, this is the place to go! Beautiful decor, invitingly casual. Highly recommend the specialty drink with the popcorn syrup! We will be regulars to both locations.
google avatar

Julie C.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Grilled shrimp taco was the best, second was the pork belly and then the fried grouper. The chips and salsa were really good. Can wait to try their new restaurant in the Landings!
google avatar

M M.

Yelp
I tried the tacos and got sick. The service is awful. I think it was the Sause that was bad.
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
Wow! Amazing authentic Mexican food with a really great vibe! The food was fresh, well prepared and had incredible flavor. Their blu corn tortilla chips are delicious, although, their guacamole was a bit mid. I would recommend just getting the chips with their flight of hot sauces for dipping. Their tacos are creative and delicious! Service was amazing as well. Very welcoming and checked on us during our time there. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
I had the tacos. The boss had the bowl. My oxtail taco was disappointing. Lacked flavor and there was hardly any meat as you can see. The lamb taco was much better. It had better flavor and it was good. The pork belly (and I love pork belly) tasted good. The bowl was primarily rice and some black beans. I found the rice to be somewhat dry. The price point and the quality don't match for me. There are too many other places to go for tacos or a bowl.
google avatar

Billie H.

Yelp
Truly exceptional and delicious food. Every single element is executed perfectly and with so much careful consideration. The al pastor had perfectly juicy bites of grilled pineapple and meat. The petite steak for the asada taco was excellent. Perfect black beans and a beautifully crusted sweet potato, a shining star for the vegetarian offering. A rich and meaty yellow mole chicken empanada. I have travelled many places and eaten hundreds of tacos but these were the best. Thank you and please keep creating all this amazing quality of food.
google avatar

Nancy G.

Yelp
It's great!! Give it a go. Small inside, but Rob is wonderful!! Beer on tap, Bottles and wine. Worth checking out- Food was fresh and portions great!! You won't be disappointed!!

Eric K.

Yelp
Best tacos in the area. I had the birria (stewed lamb) and artichoke tacos, my wife had the fried soft shell crab taco. They use homemade blue corn tacos. All were delicious, flavorful and well seasoned. They have a creative menu, with many original types of tacos. I spoke to the owner, they used locally sourced ingredients whenever they can. This place deserves its high rating. The service was prompt, the decor interesting, I even liked the background music (mellow reggaeton)
google avatar

Kait M.

Yelp
Casa masa was an order first and seat yourself style restaurant with good prices. I got the birria tacos which came in a blue corn tortilla and were $6 each ($12 total). My friend got the chicken chimichanga which had chicken, rice and beans inside. We both enjoyed our meal very much and the lady at the register was very nice! There was minimal seating so if you had a larger party it may be difficult
google avatar

Beth S.

Yelp
Small footprint, big flavors. Newly opened (December 21) Casa Masa is elevated Mexican cuisine. House made blue corn tortillas and chips. Bright, balanced, fresh flavors. MIcro-cilantro, brilliant! Although gluten is not mentioned on the menu, it was very easy for us to order a gluten free meal. Most dishes have corn tortillas. A few have wheat flour tortillas. But the menu is clear about that. We will be back.

Yelp
I wish there was a 3.5 score. Not sure how long they have been open, but it was a nice surprise to see in The Landings. The spot is small with outside seating. When the weather gets to Florida weather, not too many tables inside and may be an issue for outdoor seating. The bar, pretty big if you in to adult libations. Service was okay, although it was not very busy we had to ask for someone to take our order. Let's notch that one to training in the process of the new spot. Although I did notice a few waiters/waitresses chatting it up by the bar. Okay now the food. The chips were the best chips. The blue corn tortilla/chip seemed like freshly made and sturdy. Unfortunately no salsa, so had it with queso. The queso was okay, not enough to complement the chip. Will try the pico with chips next time. A good salsa, will have them coming back. The chop salad looked good. My wife enjoyed the avocado dressing, not an avocado fan. The grilled grouper (+$8) was delicious. I opted for the tacos. The pork belly taco was delicious. Not a guac fan, but it did not disappoint. The Birria tacos, these were a pleasant surprise. I see Birria on any menu and I just need to try. Most Birria tacos in these areas are made with beef, not as authentic. Some are great, some not so great. I was expecting beef, when I took the first bite, I was like okay something different here. Maybe too much cheese, maybe the consume, maybe the blue tortilla. 2nd bite, 3rd bite....i was like wait, not beef. It's a different animal, it was lamb. I was like WOW, authentic Birria is made with chivo/goat. The consume was delicious, not enough for two tacos but it works. The lamb was tender. Worth a second visit, fo sho.
google avatar

Dwaine C.

Yelp
This is a little hole in the wall gem. Not much outside but inside is nice. Live edge tables and Mexican music. The staff is super friendly. He even remembers my wife's name when we ordered again. They use blue corn chips and tacos for healthy reasons. They have beer and wine. We got chips and queso to start. Then I had a blackened grouper taco and an oxtail taco. The oxtail was delicious. The grouper was good. The micro cilantro and Napa cabbage was fresh. The pork belly taco was good also. They have tacos, burritos, even pizza. Lots of to go orders. We can't wait to go back. Don't forget the crema on the side. They should bottle it.
google avatar

Loren K.

Yelp
My wife and I were craving some tacos and had to try this place. It is 100% worth the visit. The service is friendly. Portions are generous and was hard to finish two tacos. Everything is made from scratch (except the drinks). Habenero salsa was really interesting...definitely super hot bit had a swwetness also. Can't wait to try some of the other tacos.
google avatar

Casey C.

Yelp
Some of the best gourmet tacos i've ever had. This is NOT a taco truck...this is delicious well created tacos that simply you can't go wrong with. I'll have to take pics next time. I was too hungry to take pics this last time. i had the octopus quesadilla, omg...so tender and perfect. Not chewy at all. I had the oxtail taco too and that was cooked to perfection. wife had the shrimp tacos and pork belly and again..just perfectly cooked and delicious. its a small area for seating so be prepared for that but its worth it! Price is more than what you typically see at a Mexican restaurant but this is def not your average Mexican joint. Portions are huge so don't get more than4 tacos unless you can really put down food!!

Yelp
I am so glad I checked out reviews for Casa Masa. It didn't look like much from the road but so thankful we stopped here for dinner. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the inviting aroma of sizzling meats and fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic, making it the perfect spot for a casual meal. There isn't much seating available inside but they have additional seating outside or you can order to go. Now, let's talk about the tacos - they are simply phenomenal! Each taco is a work of art, filled to the brim with a delightful array of flavors and textures. What sets this place apart is their fresh, local seafood in their tacos. From succulent shrimp to tender scallops, every bite is a testament to the quality of their ingredients. The menu offers a variety of options to suit every taste bud, from traditional carne asada to innovative seafood creations. Whether you're a meat lover or a seafood enthusiast, you're sure to find something that satisfies your cravings. And let's not forget about the homemade blue corn tortillas - they are the perfect vessel for delivering all that deliciousness straight to your taste buds. To top it all off, the service here is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and passionate about what they do, which only enhances the overall dining experience. In conclusion, if you're craving authentic Mexican tacos made with love and care, look no further than this taqueria. We'll definitely be coming back for more while staying in Sarasota.

Yelp
Food is amazing!! We will definitely order again!! We ordered one of each taco and multiple other items on the menu and everything was so delicious and fresh!!

Yelp
I stopped by Casa Masa a couple of weeks ago with some friends. We were blown away by the fresh from scratch delicious food. If you are in the mood Mexican this place is number one in my book.

Yelp
Great vibe and delicious tacos here! The artwork on the wall is really cool! We've been here a couple of times and the service and food is always excellent. I would definitely recommend stopping in here for quick bite.

Yelp
The tacos and the cocktails are outstanding. The oxtail taco blew my mind, and the duck was delicious too. I can't wait to go back to Florida to try some of the other things on the menu.
