"Beyond playful decor and Mexican fare at this Lower East Side cantina, there’s also — as the name indicates — a nice mezcal list. There are dozens to choose from on their own, as well as in cocktails like a mezcal Manhattan. Three floors give it a raucous vibe, so don’t come necessarily for serious sipping." - Paul Schrodt, Eater Staff

"On the quiet side of Orchard Street, this cantina provides a fun and vibrant setting for a first date with moody lighting and playful decor. There’s a big bar and high-top seating to choose from. Linger for hours over a flight of mezcal, if the attraction’s there." - Patty Diez, Stefanie Tuder

"Dark and mysterious, this cocktail lounge and Mexican restaurant is a Lower East Side staple, with bar food more adventurous than many of its patrons probably want. There are drinks with rims of pulverized grasshoppers, and grasshopper taquitos, too, plus a nice tlayuda. A classic chileajo is made with vegetables instead of pork. Though the mole list is meager, there are plenty of mezcals to make up for it." - Robert Sietsema

A friend whose a local brought us here for our honeymoon and it was incredible! They weren’t serving the vegetarian soup she usually orders but the staff and kitchen were so nice and offered to make her something she could still have and it was excellent. I had the best bierria tacos that I have ever had and my husband had beef tacos that were excellent. We all had drinks and the drinks were also incredible. The staff was so kind and lovely, they even gave us some amazing churros at the end. I will absolutely be back the next time we come to NYC. 💕

We have been wanting to go to Casa Mezcal for awhile and tonight was the night. We were seated on time for a reservation. The decor and atmosphere is very welcoming and so is the staff. We started with the guacamole and chips and it was perfect. My wife had bloody Maria and I had a LA MULA DE PEDRO both were excellent. The GOBERNADOR quesadilla was very good and so was the BURRITO ESPECIAL. If you like tequila and mezcal this place is a must. Great vibe.

Love this spot! Reviews for separate visits: mezCALL me a cab after this happy hour @casamezcal has some great deals during happy hour like their classic margaritas. And if you post them on @instagram while you’re there, you get a free shot! Not sure what the blood red shot was but it was a sweet contrast to the perfectly tart marg. Plus the chicken tacos are pretty dang good! In queso you forgot… @casamezcal is the best Mexican restaurant around! I was invited for a dinner and mezcal tasting and got to try so many items from their menu I hadn’t before and each one was absolutely amazing! The staff took amazing care of us and they will amazing care of you too! Appetizers • Esquite - fesh corn, epazote aioli, tajin, cotija cheese (similar to an elote but off the cob) • Guac & Totopos - chips & guacamole • Queso Asado - grilled cheese, salsa verde, hoja santa, pico de gallo Entrees • Azteca Cake - layered corn tortillas, grilled chicken breast, onion, covered with Oaxacan mole, sesame seeds, avocado • Barbacoa de Borrego - puebla lamb stew with chile guajillo, with house made corn tortillas, salsas Mezcal Tasting We got to try 3 of the 300+ mezcals that they have! It was so cool and informative to learn about them. Each one was so unique in both taste and history • @mezcalcasaantigua - the first of the artisanal of the ones we tried and probably my favorite of the 3. I had a more mild taste than the others and was recommended to be used for cocktail mixing • @mezcalherodes - this brand was started by a French wine maker who moved to Mexico and fell in love with mezcal. It’s the perfect love story. This brand aged their mezcals in similar barrels to the wine which gives it the full bodied flavors • @mezcalrompecorazon - the only reposado mezcal we tried. It was fruitier than the others since this one is aged longer than the others in bourbon barrels and absorbs the sugars, which is also how both reposado tequila and mezcal get its darker color. Also this is the first and only OU certified kosher mezcal! Dessert •Churros Thank you for having & teaching us! Drop it like it’s hot (cakes) Because the hot cakes at @casamezcal have a surprising fruity Mexican twist! They corn hot cakes with lime zest, served with a strawberry sauce. Plus their huevos divorciados (yes, divorced eggs) are awesome as well - one served with mole and the other salsa verde, with rice and beans on the side. Plus we ordered some margaritas. Great brunch menu! The only thing I wish there was, was more food!

Guys! The mescal mixology class for Valentine’s Day was an absolute amazing experience. It was their first time doing it and they were so generous with their time and samplings. We absolutely love them and we loved their teacher. 10/10!!! They are so passionate

Google
The food was very delicious! Their margaritas were tasty as, well the ginger, grapefruit, and watermelon. And they decorated the place as cinco de mayo. The desserts were nice and you have the option of indoor and outdoor seating after they take your temperature

He was really helpful in our needs and the food was server really fast 🌮🌮🌮 There’s only 1 thing I didn’t like and is their restrooms!!! I was there last Sunday, such a great experience, We had the opportunity to meet Alex. I usually dont like cocktails because they are sweet most of the time, but I tried cocktails here they are so delicious, excellent balance, definitely will be back soon

Google
Good place, I just wish the birria tacos were a little less dry, it comes with a tiny bit of consomé on the side (very stingy) but they were too dry. The guacamole is awesome! The service is 8/10 👍🏼 would come back

Yelp
3 for Service/Ambiance 4 for cocktails 3.5 overall Note this review is only for our cocktail night experience. We dropped by craving some mezcal - it was my first time having mezcal cocktail, and I was absolutely satisfied with my drink! I got the La Rosa Maria (rosemary infused mezcal, yuzu, agave, and chamomile salt on the rocks). We enjoyed our magaritas/cocktails, and I would consider coming back again at an earlier time. The inside has great decor that has a bit of Dia de Los Muertos feel. Seating was at first comfy, but deeper into our stay, they started blasting music and eventually a line formed inside the restaurant for what we assumed a club. As we were expecting a chill cocktail night, the loud music and crowd of patrons waiting on a line next to our table wasn't the most welcoming. It became a little hard to hear each other. Aim to come earlier in the night to avoid not being able to hear the people at your table and for hopefully a better experience.

Yelp
If I could give them no stars I would. How do u charge 50 for two basic mojitos that are well liquor and taste horrid. Moreover the bartender said 15 not 50 then tried to justify it and said it included tip. Best part is that there Is no manager downstairs and upstairs was closed so nobody could reverse the charge. This place is a circus that rips ppl off. Perhaps the food is good but the club part is horrible.

Yelp
Me and my girlfriend were looking for somewhere to go to for dinner that was close to where we were going after, and we came across Casa Mezcal. It's a very hole in the wall type place with a Day of the Dead kinda vibe. We got a margarita each, and shared a few food dishes. We got the tinga de pollo tostadas, tuna tartare, a pollo taco, and the kale Caesar salad. All the food was honestly pretty good, and it definitely had a good taste to each bite. I personally love the tinga de pollo tostadas the most. It was a perfect combination of chewy meets crispy. Highly recommend trying these mini tostadas out, they come in orders of 3. The margaritas we got were also very tasty. I can't remember which ones we got but they tasted really good. We also got two free shots for posting on social media and tagging them. The service wasn't too good though though. We waited for quite some time when we got seated for someone to take our order. They weren't attentive throughout the entire time we were there either, so it left a bad taste in our mouth. I wouldn't go back here again, but the time we spent there wasn't too bad.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday night.. got seated right away. Good service, both from the server and the bartender. I got shrimp quasedilla, it was really good. The drink my table ordered, rosa maria something, was also really good. Don't forget to post the place on your social media to get free shots, cause the shot was really good!! I thought it was going to be a regular straight shot, but the bartender mix it with hibiscus, turn out to be a pretty tasty red shot! Love it!

Yelp
Beautiful Mexican restaurant. Really loved the colorful and fun and atmosphere. We were surprised by the friendly customer service our waiter was very nice and welcoming. We started our afternoon with margaritas and enjoyed happy hour atmosphere. Will definitely return to try their food menu!

Elianny S.

Yelp
My friend picked this place as she was just returning from Mexico and was craving Mexican food. The place is small and crammed with lots of interesting artifacts to give it a Día de los muertos vibe. The lighting is pretty dim, which would make it somewhat romantic, but it's too grungy. They played a variety of old and current Latin music. Our server was very friendly and attentive even though he seemed to be working on his own. I ordered the carne asada quesadilla, and my friend got the arrachera steak tacos. The quesadillas did not look like quesadillas that I'm used to, but they were very good. My friend was happy with her tacos. We had the churros for dessert, and they were a bit hard, but I liked the sweet dipping sauce. I thought the prices were a bit high, so if I return, I will come back during happy hour.

Chelsea M.

Yelp
I had a really good date at this restaurant. It's small and intimate. The sangria is good, the service is fast and the food was very good. I will be returning.

Nohemi R.

Yelp
This restaurant is closed, I asked a neighboring business and said they have been closed for a while, so don't waste your time and come. I gave it one star because we were so hungry a came to find the restaurant has closed down.

Shyam K.

Yelp
The ambiance and location of this bar are great, but we were underwhelmed with everything else. The food and drinks were okay but felt very overpriced. On top of things being normally overpriced, when we got the check we saw that we were charged above menu rates for an item. When we pointed that out they went back and fixed the item and charged our card. We then examined the bill one more time, just in case, and found another item that had been overcharged. They refunded me in cash for that second item but as someone who usually never checks the bill and luckily just happened to this time, I won't be coming back here.

Yelp
Stopped by here for New Year's Eve and was very happy with everything! The staff was very attentive and friendly. Drinks were delicious and strong. I would def come back again!

Yelp
Went here with a group of friends and tried this pineapple and mezcal drink. The drink was very balanced with the mescaline not over powering and the sweet pineapple also coming through. Solid drink. Bartenders were nice and gave good service.

Yelp
Casa mezcal has become my favorite spot in Lower East Side! I am originally from México and I've been in NYC for the last 8 years, I worked in the hospitality industry for renowned venues, and I'm just mention it because I really never found a place like this before, this place is truly special and I'm gonna dare to say that I really feel transported to México every time. I love that the place looks like a Mexican grandma's house. They have 3 different floors, and I've been on the 3 of them, and I had a great night. Even tho I loved the club night with Latin music, I think the restaurant is still my favorite. The food is absolutely delicious, so tasty, it really reminds me of the food back home! They have definitely the best guac, Aguachile, al pastor, shrimp, steak tacos, their birrea and barbacoa are out of thus world and my favorite tlayudas in the city!! The mixology is just so well balanced, I usually don't like cocktails cause they are too sweet. I'm more of a straight, neat liquor person, but these cocktails are really fantastic! The service is so warm and friendly, everyone from the manager to every single person of the staff are so genuine and caring for the place. We have 2 doggies and they are so sweet, as soon as we arrive they always bring water for them and I heard that they are working in creating a doggie menu!! Really I think everyone should know about this place! They have karaoke and happy hour!!!! Thank you, Casa Mezcal, for always offering the best food, drinks and service! I hope everyone comes to try

Yelp
On one of the last nice weather days of the year, my friend and I were itching to find a good taco spot with outdoor seating. We decided on trying Casa Mezcal as their colorful outdoor seating arrangement was calling my name. It happened to be happy hour when we arrived- even better, their HH goes until 7 pm on weekdays by the way. We ordered margaritas with chips and guac- of course. I could tell this place does not play games with their spice by the margaritas being rimmed with Tajin and guac having a bit of a kick. My type of place for sure. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were amazing. I'll definitely have to come back soon.

Xiomara S.

Yelp
To be honest, the food was extremely bland and tasteless. The rice and beans had no flavor -- I don't even know how that is possible. NONE of our food was slightly warm. It was all room temperature. We got the Tinga de Pollo, and an array of tacos. It's almost as if the chef doesn't even know that salt exists. Drinks were good. Maybe if we were drunker we would've accepted the quality of food.

Hannah K.

Yelp
The service and staff here were absolutely incredible! We got there right as the kitchen was about to close and they stopped the process to make us nachos! So kind! Also, the nachos were delicious!!! Like so delicious! Wish we had got 2 orders because it was really small for 3 people, it would be a perfect entree for 1 person.

Foujan S.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, cute place- we didn't try the food- BUT, the cocktails were disappointing. I ordered La Mula De Pedro which is supposed to be with Mezcal San Bartolo but there was not a hint of Mezcal in my drink and it was made with vodka. I asked the guy if they made a mistake, he took my drink back and gave me something with vodka AND a little Mezcal which was an odd combo and not a great outcome after all. This is quite ironic since the place is called Casa Mezcal ‍ my bf ordered dirty mojito which was okayyyy, better than my water sugar vodka cocktail but still not worth $16 The area is full of bars and nice places, choose wisely

Denzyl A.

Yelp
Was looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately things didn't turn out the way it should've. We called on a Saturday night asking if there was a wait. The host checked their reservations for us and let us know they could get us a table in the next 30 minutes which we excitedly accepted. The ambiance here is great! The music will have you moving like a bachata master in your seat (my moves are often better seated than they are while I'm standing ). Perfect spot for a linkup with some friends as their drink menu has some great mezcal variations that will give you a twist on some classic favs of yours. We ended up bypassing our table reservation since the table was close to the door and succumbed us to the cold air as the door opened. There was plenty of bar seating and sometimes the bar can be a fun place to be so we sat there instead. Unfortunately drinks and ambiance is where the experience stopped for us. We chose to dine at the bar for the night and the service was very underwhelming. There was apparently a large party upstairs that kept the bartender's attention elsewhere. Barely received any eye contact or were checked in on, and our food order never came. When we asked about our food after 45 minutes of waiting with no updates, the bartender checked and told us it would be another 20 minutes due to the "rush". We decided to cancel and the bartender graciously comped us for some of our drinks for the inconvenience. The restaurant has some promise, but for now I'm a bit hesitant to give it another try after the first impression.

Yelp
Krispy Reviews Tequila Espresso Martini: 4 out of 10 (Personally not a fan of Tequila) Food was good and staff was friendly though! Great mezcal.

Dylan A.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday around 8pm and shockingly were able to get an outside table for our group of 5. Service was alright, though a bit stretched thin at times. I ordered the Quesabirria and it was nice and filling, nothing too special. I also had a few bites of my friend's esquite, and we shared a pitcher of margs. The margs were nice, again nothing special at all, and same goes for the esquite (which was surprisingly heavy on the lime and salt). You can get a free shot for posting a pic of the restaurant, though I can guarantee the "shots" we received had zero liquor in them, and they were only half-shots. Not a major loss since it was free, but pretty strange to offer something and not even slightly delivery? I think the inside would have been better both for the vibe and service, and I wish I was able to explore more of the menu, but my experience was simply "okay". Nothing particularly bad, but definitely nothing special.

Kiki L.

Yelp
Came for happy hour on a Friday night and had a great time! Tacos were delicious and only $5! Our waitress was so sweet and helpful. Also, posted a picture and tagged them and was gifted a free delicious mixed shot:) Great happy hour spot in the lower east side!!

Deserae D.

Yelp
The drinks are superb! And the place is beautifully decorated, it's unique Aztec vibes are beautifully executed and they have live house music going on too! The portions of the entrees are not it ! I can understand the main course fine, but skimping RICE AND BEANS ??? Literally the cheapest thing to make across all countries is not IT. It left me and my group of 5 so unsatisfied considering you're paying a decent amount, we had to stop at a pizza shop and grab a slice just to feel complete! Cute decor tho (:

Hari K.

Yelp
This place is simply fine - they were quite crowded on a Thursday night, so they found a folding table behind the bar and set it up outside for us. We got a couple of "spicy" margs that turned out to not even be spicy for me, a notorious baby when it comes to spice. They were flavorful though & masked the alcohol until I left feeling solidly drunk after a couple. It is a bit pricey at $16/drink, which is why I probably would not come back as the drinks weren't so outstanding.

Rapid M.

Yelp
When my family and I came to this restaurant on new years eve, we were not aware that there was a prefixed menu that that we could only order from for new years. It was $55 per person, and there were 5 of us. We all ordered from the 3 course mea menu, which only had 3 options per section. We all ordered the 12oz steaks with white rice. But when the meal came, the steaks were maybe half the size and it came luke warm, which is a generous description. Before we finished our main course, they brought out the dessert and placed it on our tiny table. Then when we asked for the check, it took them almost 20 mintues just to grab it. Plus they didn't have any heat on the top floor, which is where we were seated. Overall, terrible experience.

Johanna B.

Yelp
Festive, colorful and fun atmosphere, Casa Mezcal was a first for me. Middle of the afternoon so past prime lunch time but not yet dinner either. Known for their tequila (hence the name), I ordered a Mojito (emphasis on not sweet therefore it was good) and shared the guacamole (sides of chips, warm corn tortilla and some veggies). Overall opinion? Guac was the first non spicy (as in zero spice) I've ever experienced. I don't even recall if I saw or tasted any onions. Some may argue that it's good, but speaking for myself, I would like a bit more pizzazz and flavor with guacamole. Chips were good--not thick with a sprinkle of salt (although my all time favorite home made chips can be found at another Mexican restaurant in Chelsea---the best) and the warm tortillas were fine. I can't rant or rave about the food since I didn''t order an entree. Here's my gripe. With not many patrons at the given time of the visit, service was slowwwww. The movie, Catch Me if You Can, pretty much describes the experience---meaning, we had to keep flagging the waitress down. Can get tiresome. Still, I would definitely return for more food. That's when I'll provide an update.

Nicholas C.

Yelp
My friend, who is an avid mezcal lover, wanted to try this spot while they were visting town. I've been in the area but hadn't gotten the chance to visit casa mezcal in the past. She stated we didn't need a reservation and it was definitely more a relaxed vibe than most spots. Upon arriving you definitely get the feel this is more of a party spot than anything else. A group of about 15 people must've been leaving when I arrived and they were blasting Spanish music throughout the space. After a few minutes they lowered the volume and a server came to greet us and asked us for our order. My friend ordered a mezcal margarita while I got a dry vodka martini. They messed up my drink twice and between each remake there was a period of about 10 minutes. So it took about 20 minutes for them to properly make what I assumed was a basic cocktail. Regardless, staff was all right but also not being too attentive to the customers throughout the restaurant. I'd suggest coming here with friends as a second or third option. It shouldn't be your first if you're expecting expedited service.

Nick S.

Yelp
Stopped by for drinks this evening and wanted to sit outside to enjoy the weather. In the hour and a half we were there, we were able to get two rounds of drinks - the second only came because we were finally able to catch someone's eye after 20 minutes. If you're in the market to drink at any sort of expedient rate, I wouldn't recommend. For context, there were 10 to 15 (tops) patrons in total at the place, so they weren't exactly swamped

Emma D.

Yelp
Great drinks and good vibe! Service was okay but you get a free round of shots if you post and tag the restaurant on social media. Mezcal flights and cocktails were great! Food was average for the expensive price. I'd recommend this place for happy hour or pregame cocktails but not dinner.

Carmen L.

Yelp
I kindly waited my turn to get in to the establishment, but was met with plain rudeness. The bouncers made assumptions on my Asian friend who was minding her business and made it impossible for us to get in. I know when to admit my own faults in being unreasonable but the service we experienced was unfair and unnecessary. lame as fuck.

Connor H.

Yelp
There are much better options nearby. The food is pretty basic. Nothing special. Probably better to come here for drinks / snacks vs a full sit down dinner.

Anika M.

Yelp
Great spot! I came here on a Saturday afternoon while waiting for our table at Dudleys across the street. I was surprised that it was almost empty. Food was good and drinks were strong & good. I will definitely be back!

A S.

Yelp
Good Mezcal selection and a nice selection of cocktails with a Mezcal spin. I don't like that many of the cocktails cost +$1 to be made with Mezcal. Nick behind the bar is friendly and knowledgeable about mezcals. A fantastic recommendation was the Los Nahuales.

Bryhan A.

Yelp
Chill bar, not the best drinks but they will do. Not overly priced and staff in cool.

Aiyana D.

Yelp
DO NOT COME HERE !!!!! I came here on Thursday 3/31 and the receipt for my bill 89.27 I have it in my hand see attached pictures HOWEVER they charged my credit card 105.67 and I have been calling since Friday and leaving message and they keep telling me we will call you back in a few minutes the manager stepped out. This is ridiculous and it's fraud you can't give a receipt for one price and then charge me something else and on top of that the food was mediocre. My classic margaritas were good but the place was dirty with terrible service it took 15 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us. I would never ever step foot in this place RUN RUN RUN I will write a review every day on every platform because you cannot scam people this is ridiculous please do not come to this restaurant they should not be in business ZERO STARS

Claudia D.

Yelp
Loved this spot. It's so pretty and quiet. It's decorated beautifully, with a true Mexican feel to it. The food is delicious, tastes authentic and doesn't take too long. The service was also impeccable as our server was very nice. He even gave us a shot of their house Mezcal to sample! He explained their house Mezcal is made by the owners of the restaurant (so cool). Also, super good on budget for an NYC restaurant. Definitely recommend if you're in the area!

Katie S.

Yelp
The Oaxacan Chocolate Cake alone makes this a 5-star place, but our whole experience was great. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made good recommendations. The mezcal flight was smoky and delightful, balancing perfectly with the saltiness of the nachos, the acidity and spice of the esquites, and the sweetness of the crab quesadillas. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. But that chocolate cake. What if brownie batter and chocolate mousse had a love affair that was toasted just enough to hold it all together? Every bite was absolute perfection, and just the right portion size to wrap up the meal without feeling stuffed beyond comfort. Make sure you have a reservation for the weekend because this place is (deservedly) very popular. We will absolutely be back.

Justin P.

Yelp
Pretty nice spot. Could be considered a date spot or somewhere to get dinner with friends. They do have a good selection of tacos here and they were not weak with their portions. I would say 3 is enough for a dinner. Also, depending on what time you go, there may be a long wait, even with a reservation. Ordered beef tacos (forgot the actual name on the menu) and sample other people's tacos. There was a grasshopper tostado which was very.....unique. But if you like fried sardines or squid or fish or anything like that, I think it'' be worth trying. There are many other taco spots around the area, of course for cheaper, but this is a very hipster (could be classy) type of place to eat.

Amrin I.

Yelp
I would like to start off with the fact that we ordered a second guacamole and never got it. We ordered extra limes from 3 different people and still never got those either. Service is shitty. Food is alright and small plated. Does not fill you up so it's better not to waste $15-20 on 2 pieces of tacos. I will not be coming back here nor would I recommend this place. If you are in the city and you want a good Mexican/taco spot go to Toro Loco for better drinks and food AND MOST IMPORTANTLY SERVICE SMH ‍

P S.

Yelp
Horrible service, waiter is running crazy forgetting everything you order no one knows what they're doing. Well the food was good but ae

Diana F.

Yelp
Came here for a long awaited reunion and enjoyed an an outdoor meal with a friend. A hidden gem downtown. Fantastic and refreshing cucumber margarita on a hot day and excellent sauces and eggs. Would return.

Shayan S.

Yelp
If you like mezcal, I really don't know how you can Not love a whole casa dedicated to mezcal?! This place is the shit! Thank you for your 100% dedication to the best liquor out there. This place is a real experience. You can't help but feel festive upon entering the vibrantly decorated drinking establishment. The only other thing that really matters is that they have a massively extensive list of Mezcal featured drinks...as well as flights. There is no end to the number of hours that I would like to spend here exploring their menu, getting creative with drinks, learning more about Mezcal and becoming a better person ;)

Kimberly W.

Yelp
Eh... Quesadilla was good but after guac, salsa, chips and margarita was soooo expensive. They get you on charging for every little thing. Salsa was really salty. Margarita was not what I ordered or asked about and came at $15 over quoted price. Bait and switch for sure. We could barely stomach it down. Not a return spot...

Jefe D.

Yelp
Great place for brunch and cocktails. I was able to get a table outside for me and my friend to enjoy the nice weather! Service was great and you can take a picture of the qr code to get the menu. I got the pancakes and a couple of cocktails. Definitely worth trying out the food and cocktail menu!

Adam S.

Yelp
We came in for Casa Mezcal brunch on a Sunday afternoon in March. We didn't realize ahead of time, for brunch they only seat upstairs in the gallery. It seems disorganized at first as there is no host to greet you as you walk in and the service is a bit off. That said, the food is on point and the margaritas are delish! Drinks: Classic margarita: great! Classic margarita with mezcal: great but mezcal is an acquired taste ;) Hibiscus margarita: great, a little sweet but perfect if you like it a little sweet Hibiscus margarita with mezcal: again, great bus mezcal is an acquired taste Food: Shrimp "Camarones" tacos: loved them. Topped off with avocado and a chipotle mayo drizzle, these were very enjoyable Chicken "Pollo" tacos: although a bit dry, even with the lime that comes with, these tacos were on point. Tacos come served with a green and red salsa - the green salsa has a cilantro edge and were a perfect complement. We were pleasantly surprised by a live jazz band playing a beautiful set during brunch, which supposedly is a regular thing here. I wanted to give Casa Mezcal 3.5 stars but Yelp wouldn't let me. For food and drinks, awesome. Atmosphere and service could use some improvement. (We were hoping to sit downstairs in the more trendy "mezcaleria.")

Marisa F.

Yelp
We went for happy hour and thought the food and drink were delicious!! The spot was super cute and colorful. However, thought it was a bit overpriced for the portions since they were a little small and we were still paying decent prices for everything. The service was slow as well (could've been an off day), which is tough during happy hour. Super cute spot, but overpriced for what you get.

Yelp
Worst service I've ever had since moving to NYC! Don't go - food is sub-par especially for the price and worst of all we had a 3 top and they automatically added 20% gratuity for the service which took 30 mins to get a food order in, plus an additional 1hr for tacos and a quesadilla. Never go!

Yelp
If you're like me and you went to casa mezcal you're probably thinking the same thing. How? How was it possible that our table was ignored the whole night? How many times did I have to frantically flag a server so they would notice we haven't been attended to? How was it I could visibly see the chef cooking through the window and yet not one table had a plate of food on the table for over 2 hours? While I wanted to give this restaurant a one star review, the server did eventually comp a drink and a few apps but it was because we ASKED them too.. they were clearly overwhelmed, I get it. However what I don't get is how the server assumed we ordered a full meal when no-one appeared to even greet the table. Seems like it was a bad night for other tables as well, as we all felt generally ignored. Food was okay, it came out slightly warm. I just wouldn't come back if you're looking to experience an epic meal. $23 for a quesabirria taco and it was dry defeats the whole purpose of a birria taco. See what I mean? There are plenty of other spots you can visit with better options.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants! My friend and I are huge mezcal fans, and when he came across this place, we knew we had to go in. We came in on a Friday evening, and were immediately drawn in by the small and intimate setting. It's very cutely decorated and the employees are all friendly. We ordered the guac to split as well as two mezcal cocktails each throughout. Everything was delicious, and I was a huge fan of the drinks. We both got tacos, and I very thoroughly enjoyed mine as the flavor was exceptional. I will say that the portions are pretty small here, and they charge $8 for extra chips, even though they give you about 4 chips per serving. My friend was pretty disappointed about this as we were not told there would be an extra charge and our server was pretty rude when he inquired. We'll probably be coming for just drinks next time!

Yelp
Came here during happy hour for some margs! I cannot explain how upset I am with the service here. We were barely checked on and our server was behind the bar just hanging out for most of the time without looking towards our table so we can get his attention. Even when we asked for more chips for our queso, we were not told that it was an extra charge. The queso with chorizo we got had an interesting spice flavor that we didn't expect. I had a chicken quesadilla and it was okay, nothing too special. The margaritas were good but not worth the trip.

Yelp
It's always the same thing when coming here. I live around the area so it's pretty much my only option where they have decent drinks and food. I usually bring people over for drinks and the host/staff -always- start panicking when mentioned it's for drinks only. It's usually pretty empty when I've tried going (3 times been declined for drinks, no food ) saying it's busy or "reserved". It's funny how I would've spent more money on drinks rather than food but they would think otherwise. (Obviously) ***They also once sat my group and I in a pretty tight disgusting corner when we went for cocktails only. The rest of the bigger tables were empty the whole night!! *** They also have their grade pending for a while now .. so I wouldn't trust .
