The Best Italian Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Tucked away in a strip mall near Fountain Hills, intimate, upscale Casa Mia has been flying under the radar for over 20 years, but insiders know just how exceptional this small, family-run operation is. It’s the life’s blood of Danilo Sodano and his adult children Nantas Sodano and Hera Ambrosio, who create classic Italian dishes using organic produce, fresh pasta, and grass-fed beef. Get started with a grapefruit basil martini and the burrata appetizer, embellished with prosciutto, mint, and fig syrup. The pasta is outstanding, as is the elegant saltimbocca." - McConnell Quinn

First time visiting this restaurant. Dinner with six friends-excellent meals, extraordinary service by Keith, and nice atmosphere. Italian cuisine/menu was great…prep & presentation all excellent. Well worth the visit & worthy of a follow up in the future!

The wife and I came across this place and love it! We have been back many times and have never been disappointed. The Italian food is delicious! Service is always great.

Google
We live in Fountain Hills, so this is really close to home. I had the lamb chops, My husband had homemade sausage on polenta. Best meal we've had in a long time!

Rebecca King

Google
Excellent meal with a great atmosphere and good manners. The iced tea was delicious and the bread was amazing. I ordered the risotto di Andrea. The scallops were perfectly cooked with a seared taste yet still melted in your mouth. I will definitely be back and am excited to try other items on the menu.

Google
Very good food, pricey, our meals took 45 minutes to arrive from when we ordered. Kitchen was slammed but it wasn’t mobbed, just busy on a Saturday night.

Kyle King

Google
Such a relaxing and enjoyable culinary journey. The bread is fantastic and their iced tea is delicious. I ordered the linguine and it was amazing! Would highly recommend.

Yelp
What a great find! Hospitality, fast service, flavorful food = this place is a hit! Broad menu that focuses on the best of Italian, we were quite pleased with everything. Fantastic fresh bread with oils to start before he Burrata appetizer. They brought two large balls of cheese with cherry tomato compote, lemon, mint, prosciutto, and a dash of fig syrup " the whole dish proved outstanding. The Caesar salad we split ... not hard to mess up, though perhaps a bit too much dressing (said my wife). For mains, I went with the Risotto di Andrea (three large scallops over risotto with sausage, pancetta, and a bit of balsamic to taste), while TWTWIRBM enjoyed (like nearly licked the bowl) the Strascinati (round, flat pastas about the size of a silver dollar + broccoli and Montasio cheese with a bit of a white cream sauce). Delicious on all fronts. Somehow, we had room to go for dessert (which was a surprise, as the portions were filling). The Tiramisu delivered, no question. Go and enjoy Casa Mia ... you should love it!

Yelp
Thought I'd give an Italian restaurant a try and this place was a very nice experience. I was promptly greeted upon arrival and seated at a comfortable table. The menu was quite large and I decided to go simple. I started with the Cesare salad. It was good but far from special and definitely not exceptional. It was served in what appeared to be a soup bowl which seemed a bit strange. The Caesar dressing was quite ordinary and the salad presentation was what I'd expect in a 3 star restaurant. My entree was the Spaghetti Puttanrsca. It was a nice blend of pasta, meats and spices. Served at the right temperature, it was unique and very flavorful and not too spicy. The dish does not appear on the online menu so I presume it's a newer item. For dessert I had the Coconut Sorbet. I should note there was no dessert menu and the waiter went over the choices with me. The Coconut Sorbet was rich and creamy although frozen quite hard. Overall I give the restaurant 4 stars. The service was excellent and the restaurant comfortable and inviting. The bar area was crowded which demonstrates the popularity of this location. I give it my recommendation.

Yelp
We made reservations on a Saturday night and we were seated right away. I immediately loved how the tables are all spread out and you don't feel crowded. It is an older crowd so it is nice and quiet. Makes for an enjoyable dinner. Service was great. Attentive and so friendly. Food was good. We enjoyed their salads and sea bass. Great wine selection

Yelp
Had date night there on a Saturday night- we were seated in the back table with ambient lighting. The restaurant isn't big but a quaint experence. The server was friendly, attentive but not overbearing. Management let us stay to talk after hours while they cleaned up. Closed at 9pm on a Saturday night (too early for my taste) to close at 9pm on a Saturday night. I had a pasta dish with chicken, sauce, olives- the sauce was good but not great. Italian food seems to be about sauces and this sauce was average. The server was excellent and unfortunately I forget his name. A bit of information about the restaurant. Casa Mia prides itself on serving the authentic Italian Cuisine experience. Their story is that the owners' family moved to the United States in 1993 from Sorrento, Italy (near Naples in the province of Napoli). Casa Mia means "my home," so they appear to have named it for a place to feel like home. The owners state their ingredients are homemade pastas, organic produce, and now organic grass fed beef. I thought the food was good but not great but the service made up for it. I had the expresso martini it was excellent so I didn't taste the wines. All and all a good experience and I would go back.

Yelp
We had my family in town & wanted to try out this local restaurant- only 1 mile from our house. The food & service was top notch- would definitely go back. We had the Rosato, chicken prosciutto with mushroom cream, some hot sausage pasta dish & Caesar salad. I must also share that I was disappointed that I made our reservations on Open Table & looked at the menu so I knew what I wanted to order. They must have an old menu because the prices were quite elevated for every selection. Increase of $5-10 on everything so that's one downfall on my first experience. You think one thing & get another! 4 star for the food & service - lack of 1 star for proper pricing.

Yelp
We came for New Years Eve dinner service. Restaurant was busy but staff was attentive and prompt. We ordered the tomato soup, Caesar salad, lobster ravioli, and sausage & broccoli Strascinati. They forgot to bring the salad which was unfortunate but they more than made up for it with a tiramisu on the go as an apology. The food was divine, very tasty. Nothing to complain about whatsoever. Ambiance was great, I had a delicious glass of wine. The table bread was fantastic - the exact style I like. We're only a few miles from Casa Mia and can't wait to come back soon! We noticed they have a sister restaurant next door called CM Pizzaria which is on our short list.

Yelp
It's not my first time to eat at Casa Mia but this is the first time I'm writing a review. Now, I remember why we do not frequent the place considering it's a walking distance from home. The food at Casa Mia is very tasty but very, very rich. If you have issues with cream, high fat content, rich good....this is NOT the place to go for pasta. Stick to salad and little bit of their soup. The service for the night we were there was not very good. We had to flag our server to take our orders, more water, and for dessert. Oh, we received our check before we were served our dessert. When we told him we didn't get our dessert yet, he double checked the tab to make sure we ordered dessert when he was the one who took our order. This is a small restaurant which can make it not conducive to having conversations. It tends to be loud and you will end up hearing complete conversations of other customers dining in the restaurant.

Yelp
Little by Little, I'm working my way through the entire pizza menu. I don't eat meat so that leaves out a few things but the pizza I had last night was fabulous, eggplant, and other veggies.

Babs C.

Yelp
Arrived at 530 - was seated at a tiny corner table - not large enough for two adults and awkward sitting in a corner. Ordered the chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies. ( I should have ordered traditional pasta ) . The mushroom sauce had no flavor. The chicken was just ok and I don't know what the veggies even were as they were submerged in all the mushroom gravy. The staff is not overt friendly. Disappointing. Have lived here since 1994 and have been coming since they were in their first location in this strip mall .

Yelp
Service kindness. Pounded on door before they opened. Owner greeted us. We told him how hungry we were. He gave us the most delicious cookies I ever had. And he told us to come again when they open at 5pm I keep trying to stay awake till I can go.

Yelp
Simply Italian food that is made properly with portions that fill you up The pasta is good and the sauces freshly cooked

Yelp
Food was flavorful and the space is nice for a date night or small group dinner. Would come back

Yelp
Overall a great fast casual Italian dining experience with consistent quality and accommodating wait staff. CM2 and Zandara, related entities are also excellent options with their own personalities.

Yelp
Great food, friendly staff, great ambiance! I recommend this to all my clients! Rich Hinseth Mesa AZ

Yelp
The atmosphere, food, and wait staff were amazing! I am so happy this place is walking distance to my house because it will be nice to walk for some wine and cheese or a nearby dinner on nice nights. Looking forward to my next meal here already!

Yelp
Some friends invited us to dinner and suggested Casa Mia which is about a mile behind the Mayo Clinic off of Shea Blvd. in the foothills.  We read the reviews on Yelp before we went and felt we might be in for a interesting dinner.   We ordered a bottle of wine and appetizers of homemade Italian sausage & Calamari as we arrived. Both were delicious!  Some of us ordered martinis which were tasty and served in an oversizes glass. As for dinner, we had the Halibut and the homemade raviolis with bolognese sauce -- again, both were really very good.  Our friends ordered the Veal Saltimbocca and some of their chicken dishes.  We were there for about three hours.  We never felt rushed or that the wait staff was running around without their heads on. The owner's son came over a few times and chatted with us and all the food was served hot and in unison.

Yelp
Food is great and a little constructive criticism. A high end restaurant should never put menus on people's plates.Everyone knows menus are filthy.Especially during post pandemic times. Also either get table clothes that are changed out or don't put silverware directly on the table.Dont hand people silverware. Put it on a plate with napkin and let them pick it up.Condoments should be cleaned and refreshed after each customer.Tell the bus Boys no long hair that they have to keep running their fingers through to keep out of their eyes. Also if they wipe something off the floor tell them not to put the rag in their back pocket, but get a new one.No one wants to see a table get wiped down with a floor rag.Lastly don't reach over people's plates.Walk around the table. These things are okay at Dennys but not high end restrictions.

Chad M.

Yelp
This is a 5 star restaurant. I had the prosciutto polo and it was fantastic. Also had a lemon drop that was good and a great bottle of wine. I will go here again for sure!!

Yelp
This is authentic Neapolitan style Italian food. Absolutely amazing. This is the real deal! Closest thing to Napoli and Amalfi. You're in the desert this is an actual diamond in the desert

Madeline J.

Yelp
Worth the drive, cute place with exceptional food. Our service was excellent and super fast. The calamari was the best we have ever had, seriously cooked to perfection. My husband had the tagliatelle and the French 75 cocktail, which he said was incredibly strong (no complaints). I had the gnocchi and it was perfect, texture and oh so creamy. Anyone complaining about the serving size belongs at Olive Garden and not this immaculate place.

Liz B.

Yelp
Not sure why other reviews were the opposite, but we had great service here. Food was tasty and comforting. Homemade pasta was cooked perfectly. Would come back again. Next, going to get pizza from their shop next door again - had it once and it was delicious.

Jamie H.

Yelp
This is my local Italian spot. The risotto di Andrea is amazing! The menu is not large, but they always have specials to broaden the selection. Service can be a bit slow but worth the wait. Can't go wrong choosing this restaurant for Italian food.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect family dinner! Birthdays celebrated! We've been here many times and knew it'd be the best!

Yelp
Very expensive for neighborhood place . Food ok but not worth the price . Ambiance 2 stars

Yelp
Overall this place wasn't horrible just not sure if I'd come here again, especially since it's a little out of the way if a lot of things. To start off, I understand it's hard for places to seat large parties, but when I say we were CRAMMED into a table, we were CRAMMED. The food was pretty tasty and it came out hot which is a plus. For the price though I would've expected a little more. Serving sizes were a little small for the price. Maggianos little Italy restaurant is maybe a 20 minute drive from Casa Mia and you get way more bang for your buck. Plus I feel like quality of food is similar, so if you're looking for pasta I would just make the drive over there. Staff was friendly so that boost the score to maybe a 3.5. Again not horrible, but definitely some better Italian restaurants nearby I would rather choose.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for years. With so many restaurants in Scottsdale, there are so many other choices. Finally, we had the opportunity. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. The service was not up to par for a restaurant that is pricey. I believe that the owner that night was the one who took our order. We started with a cocktail and a glass of wine. They have a nice selection of wines. We were given the menu and barely had a chance to review it when we were asked for our order. He came back within a few minutes. My dad ordered a bowl of Straccetela soup along with the Veal Saltimbocca. I ordered the special of the day, Chilean Sea Bass. After waiting almost 15 minutes, we were asked if everything was ok. We advised him that we were still waiting for the soup. We were told he didn't hear my dad order it. I guess it was an honest mistake. With that being said, my dad did enjoy it. He finished the soup, and another waiter came and asked if that was all for us. We were obviously waiting for our meal. The evening continued with the same type of service. The dishes finally came out after another 15 minutes. The veal dish was good, and my Sea Bass as well. I was hoping to be wowed, especially after so many great reviews! We were never asked if we would like another glass of wine. It was a Wednesday evening with not much activity. All in all, we were very much disappointed with the service. The food was good, although I have had better. I'm glad we tried Casa Mia, but sadly, we won't be back.

Yelp
Casa Mia is located in a small shopping center at the base of Scottsdale Mountain. It is nothing fancy but solid food and most of the time good service. This time we popped in for early dinner on Friday, had the owner wait on us, my spaghetti bolognese was great and the calamari fra diavlo appetizer was good as well. They do have nice choices for Italian reds, which is great. The bartender was also flexible with my grapefruit martini, so all in all good solid place to visit if you don't want to go too far away from Sm or FH.
google avatar

Lara P.

Yelp
My family has been coming to Casa Mia for many years and it has remained the best Italian food in Scottsdale! Each dish offers a generous portion (though you probably would not want to share) with delicious flavors. My personal favorites are the tortellini and the pappardelle but honestly, everything is good here. Highly recommend if you are looking for authentic Italian food in a comfortable environment!
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
Food was absolutely delicious! A great neighborhood spot! Best carrot cake we've ever had!

McKenzie S.

Yelp
Food was delicious! The hostess was so kind. Our server didn't pay us much attention though which was unfortunate.

M. M. C.

Yelp
Just found this place for Pizza, and the quality surpassed anything we've had in this area of Scottsdale! The flavor was amazing, as well as the quality and quantity of the toppings! This will be our new Pizza place, which is pick up only. Their regular restaurant is next door and I can't wait to try that! P.S. They have SUPER chocolate chip cookies, DELICIOUS like I've never had before!!!

John D.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Pleasant atmosphere. Also, I love that it is close by my neighborhood.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was meh. Was told by our server that the special was an arugula topped carpaccio appetizer. We love carpaccio (veal, steak, fish, etc). We were served prosciutto. Unfortunate that either our server or the restaurant didn't know the difference. Go to Fat Ox instead for true Italian.
google avatar

Yuko H.

Yelp
Very good Italian food so close to my house, really enjoyed my dinner here. Started dinner with octopus salad (not on the menu but was special on that day). Really loved that tangy salad dressing. Portion size is large, could possibly just have that for dinner. Good octopus should have nice texture and theirs had that. I was going to have pasta but decided to go with gnocchi after seeing the list of cheese they use. Gnocchi was prepared perfect. Combination of cheese and quality cheese with nice texture of gnocchi made this dish so good. Casual ambiance, fancy price, excellent service and great food. I couldn't drink on this particular night I came in but a table next me had a bottle of wine. Based on wine glass I saw, I am looking forward to coming back to pair my dinner with a nice glass of red wine.

Yelp
This place is a COVID spreading g factory. I sat at the bar, socially distanced, as was everyone else. Suddenly they sat a guy in the seat next to me...it was supposed to be left empty. Then I hear him saying how he just got off a flight from the Midwest. Geeez...enough! I finished my beer real fast and got my food and ate in my hotel room. If you want COVID with your linguine, this is the place!!!

Victoria D.

Yelp
Casa Mia seems to be overpriced for the type of food they serve. We expected a good serving of spaghetti at least for the money. We just were disappointed.
google avatar

Julie C.

Yelp
We had dinner here last night & it was amazing! I had a veal dish (Saltimbacco). My husband had the pasta dish (Papparadelle). We had the calamari and a salad as well. Everything was wonderful. We highly recommend this restaurant. We look forward to coming back soon.

Philip D.

Yelp
Been years since we ate there but portions were small and expensive while tasting very good. Address is off the main road, Shea.

Scott S.

Yelp
Great food, friendly service and fun atmosphere The pasta dishes are amazing and are my favorites
google avatar

Jonathan H.

Yelp
Wow! What an amazing gem of a restaurant. The Risotto d' Andrea was so umami, just a carnival of flavors every bite. Amy at the bar is the best! They have a great wine list and my favorite, whiskey!

Salvador A.

Yelp
This is about my 5th time at Casa Mia and all I can say is the quality of the food is excellent every single time I stop in. I really want to know if the chef has a linked in because he is a top notch chef that has created some of the most authentic delicious Italian pasta I have ever tasted... P.S. I am Italian. if the chef ever leaves casa Mia I am going where ever he goes. On top of the great food the atmosphere is really romantic and the staff is really friendly and provide top notch service. 100 percent recommend this place to anyone looking for a bite to eat!

Yelp
Amazing, authentic Italian food. Impressive friendly service. Cute, modern chic atmosphere. Above all, this was one of the best Italian meals I've had in Scottsdale! COVID-19 has caused businesses to step up or step out when it comes to notching up the customer service. Casa Mia is nailing it, they made me feel at ease and welcome. I was guided to a table that was 6 feet from the next and each server wore a mask. The bar is open but customers are seated 6 feet apart. The meal itself was what really impressed me! The linguini and wine I had were excellent, and the desserts were delicious. This place is off the beaten path but it is definitely worth checking out. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu!

John W.

Yelp
Two days after dining there I kept reflecting on how good the food was. Really exceptional authentic Italian food....all freshly prepared. Outstanding. This will definitely be a must go to next time in town.

Anne H.

Yelp
After having very positive experience in late December we returned with friends two days ago and had a very negative experience. The service was awful and our meals were marginal at best. I rarely give a negative rating for service, but all four of us felt the waitress was either drunk or high. She was not only rude to us but to the table next to us. There was something wrong and I don't think it was a bad night. The food was not as good as it was on our first visit. Not sure we'll be back.

John D.

Yelp
Looking forward to our first holiday dinner with visiting family in 3 years. We had dined here in the past and enjoyed ourselves. Not this time. The place was busy and since we hadn't seen each other for awhile it didn't bother us that it took a while to be recognized and have drink orders taken. The drinks were brought by 2 separate women. One guest asked about the composition of the pappardelle special and was given a very detailed and thorough description. I asked if she could take our order and she replied yes but we weren't all ready to order. A few minutes later, the male server came by and we ordered. The food followed shortly. Once we started eating it appeared that the pappardelle was not as described. When the server came by to check the guest mentioned to him that she didn't think the dinner was what she ordered. Things then escalated quickly. The server said there were 2 pappardelle dishes on the menu and that she should have said she wanted the special instead of the menu option. He then proceeded to berate her for not making it clear what she wanted. At no time was there any recognition on his part of an I'm sorry or perhaps I should have made it clear. He went on to say that everyone else at the table managed to order correctly and continued with the problem being hers. At this point he was speaking in a loud and harsh voice. He finally asked what she wanted him to do and by that time he'd ruined our dinner and we just wanted him to go away. He immediately ran over to the staff member that had initially helped us and had what appeared to be a heated conversation with her. Shortly after the drama, our plates were cleared and a check presented by another staff member. She mentioned that the manager removed the cost of the dish from the bill. When I asked who the manager was, I was stunned to find out that it was our male server. Upon leaving I handed a gratuity directly to the woman who had been helpful to us and berated by her boss. All in all, a very unpleasant experience.

Yelp
when I first saw this restaurant (on a walk) in a strip mall, I turned up my nose . A friend of ours suggested we go there. I was pleasantly surprised... the ambience, the waitstaff, and the food did not disappoint!! Highly recommend this low key, high rating restaurant!

Yelp
Came here tonight for dinner and omg. It was. Incredible. We just moved down the street and had to try this family owned Italian restaurant! All the pasta is handmade and everything is so fresh. We started off with the beef carpaccio which was good but honestly was not enough for 4 people. I ordered the cauliflower and spinach soup which I really loved. Then we all got our own pasta I ordered the tagliatelle bolognese which I loved. My hubby got the veil I believe wrapped in prosciutto which was SO good. Everyone loved their meal and the portion was great. For dessert we ordered the chocolate lava cake which was good but we had to re order without the raspberry sauce (our server was super nice about it) and the coconut sorbet and this chocolate vanilla sorbet I believe which was my fav. The service was fast, the ambiance was so relaxing and dim we loved it. We will totally be back I can't even get over the pasta. Love.

Yelp
This was a total disaster. Extremely loud. Poor service. Food adequate. They don't seem to care.

Yelp
Great restaurant!! Amazing food! The little pizza place next door is great too. C2M (same owners)
