Casa Mortero

"Located behind the parliament building (Congreso de los Diputados), Casa Montero’s philosophy can be summed up by the phrase “There is virtue in simplicity”. In this restaurant, with its minimalist-industrial decor dominated by simple features such as ceramics and terracotta, the cuisine is full of traditional soul accompanied by the occasional dash of creativity. The concise à la carte features medias raciones, a handful of specials, as well as some superb appetisers (creamy croquettes, crispy bacon “torreznos” etc), mouthwatering stews and a selection of dishes cooked on the grill." - Michelin Inspector

(Visited on 29th May 2025) This was my second time visiting the restaurant. The first time was amazing—everything was spot-on, and I left really impressed. But sadly, my second visit was a huge letdown. The service was terrible. Our waiter was cold and condescending—no greeting, no smile, nothing. It honestly felt like he just wanted us to hurry up, eat, and leave. At one point, they even took my plate away while I was still eating. The staff were also super loud when putting away the dishes, banging things around, which made the whole place feel more like a noisy diner than a nice restaurant. Definitely not the kind of atmosphere you'd expect at this price point. The only positive was that the food still tasted good. But with so many great places to eat in Madrid, this just isn’t worth it anymore. I won’t be coming back.

Our best meal in Madrid. Clearly, the owner’s focus is on the food quality. Traditional Spanish ingredients elevated creatively. Two starters, two entrees, desert and alcoholic beverages all for 109 Euros. A dining experience that would have been over $200 in the US.

Best meal we had in Madrid. Service was outstanding and the food was brilliant. Ordered the potato salad with red tuna, duck rice and the highlight was the Turbot for us. Generous portions for the quality - was super reasonable for how good it was

We had just arrived to Madrid, it was dinner time and we were famished! This restaurant was at a walking distance from where we were staying, and it did not disappoint. It actually set the bar high for the rest of our stay in the city. The place was buzzing with people who are clearly enjoying their dinner and time. The service was excellent from the moment they welcomed us and accommodated us without prior reservations, and to the food.. oh and let me tell you about the food: I had a grilled tuna belly with sweet potato in addition to one piece of oyster, while my husband had beef loin with chimichuri sauce and a side of fries, and ended with a cheese cake that we shared. Simply excellent! Casa Mortero is already on top of my favorite restaurants list, and we will definitely come back whenever we have the chance.

Cozy place where you are welcome with a smile and served traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine excellently prepared. The Iberic Ham croquettes are fabulous, along with the duck and rice and asparagus. Make sure you try the Vasca Cheesecake with Toffee Ice Cream. Highly recommended!

From service to meal, I enjoyed a lot. Thanks to Henry for the attentive service, for the recommendations. Had the oysters as an appetizer and the seared tuna on sweet potato for main. The wine was beautiful, tried the Finca Valpiedra. Had a refreshing dessert, ice cream with a mint sauce and berries. A very good experience. Thank you!

A truly great experience 15 minutes from Puerta del Sol. The restaurant serves non-trivial modern Spanish dishes with an impeccable service. Daily dishes and wines menu is very impressive. The portions are large, with some dishes being offered also as a half-portion. “Spanish takeoff on a French bistro” is, probably, the best description. Worth every Euro spent there in my book.

I visited an excellent restaurant in Madrid last August, and I have very fond memories of the experience. The service was impeccable: attentive, courteous, and always professional. The cuisine offers traditional Spanish dishes reinterpreted in a modern way, without unnecessary frills, but with great attention to the quality of the ingredients. The wine selection is also remarkable. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, perfect for a pleasant and relaxed dinner. It’s the kind of restaurant you can visit often because it combines good food, excellent wine, and a welcoming environment. The experience was very satisfying: the dishes were well-executed, with high-quality products. Some dishes impressed me more than others, but that comes down to personal taste. Overall, it was a memorable dinner that will remain one of the best memories of my summer holidays.
