The 36 Best Restaurants in Lisbon, Portugal | Eater

"The charismatic and popular Nepalese chef Tanka Sapkota is known mainly for his Italian restaurants: Come Prima, Il Mercato, and Forno d’Oro. But at Casa Nepalesa, which he opened in 2010 and revamped in 2021, the chef pays tribute to Lisbon’s thriving Nepalese community by serving dishes from his home country that he’s particularly fond of, like cheesy naan or Alentejano lamb curry with onion, tomato, green pepper, and ginger." - Rafael Tonon

Nothing like having locals to show you hidden treasures. A couple of friends from Nepal invited us to this AMAZING restaurant. The pictures speak for themselves. I am very grateful for this amazing experience. Great and general stare. Food full of fresh spice flavors.

Friendly and really great staff, tasty food, good wine selection. Make sure to reserve as it gets busy for dinner.

Came here a few months ago and I thought the experience was pretty nice. The atmosphere was pleasant and pretty calm when I arrived, after around 30 minutes started the chaos because the restaurant was fully booked, a lot of noise from families and groups but I would say that's normal for a restaurant. The food was tasty and well seasoned and the waitresses were always coming around to give suggestions and explain the whole restaurant history, the only downside to this was that sometimes I just wanted to be enjoying my dinner and would get interrupted. I finished my meal with no problems until I had to pay. I had to ask 3 times for the receipt and after around 25 minutes of waiting I had to get up and pay by myself on the counter otherwise I would have to wait longer. It was an overall good experience.

Google
What a wonderful place! Cannot praise it enough! I have been a client for many years now and it is always a pleasure to eat here. The food is gorgeous, they allied Portuguese produce with Nepalese cuisine and the mix is a success. The service is super polite, friendly and fast. The decor is beautiful and the staff dress typically. You cannot miss this place!!!

Google
Great ambiance, excellent unique food. Service was first class. It is away from the prime tourist area but only a short Uber ride away. It is a nice neighborhood, where locals live. We tried a chicken dish and 2 vegetarian dishes and both were delicious. The chicken was one of the best that I have ever had (no exaggeration). Highly recommend this restaurant. I made same day reservation on a week day.

Google
Really good experience from start to finish. Service excellent. Tasty food and good sized portions! Will be recommending to friends. All of the staff were extremely polite and there was a nice little extra at the end of the meal which I will leave you down to enjoy without spoiling what it was

Google
Phenomenal restaurant with exceptional food. Just the right level of spice. We came with our little son and they were so good to him. We loved it and we can’t wait to come back. Special thanks to Sandeep for his amazing service and entertaining our son.

Yelp
Easily the best Indian food experience in Lisboa by a long shot! Awesome Momo Appetizers, Lamb Saag and Shrimp is what we had along with cool beers for lunch! This is a high end service restaurant and has great decor and atmosphere! Do stop by if you're looking for great food and service .... Not your typical British Indian restaurant! Quite a treat!

Yelp
After a few weeks in Portugal, we were ready for a change. A lovely, elegant restaurant, extraordinarily friendly and competent service, and interesting food made for a great experience. Strong recommendation and don't forget to be bold and experiment while you're there.

Yelp
The food and service was outstanding! We had a Mushroom and then a lamb appetizers followed by a goat and a lentil main courses.

Yelp
After 2 weeks of traveling around Spain and Portugal, our family was burnt out on eating out at restaurants. Many of them very good to great. So when we happened onto Casa Nepalese on our last night we were just happy to find a restaurant that was close to our hotel that had good reviews at a reasonable price. Going into our meal we had no real expectations other than eating, running and sleeping, but came away revived in body, mind and spirit at having had such a pleasant and delicious meal, in a great atmosphere, that was augmented by some of the best service we have ever had at even the most expensive, well reviewed restaurants. That of course sounds hyperbolic, and maybe is just a bit, but wanted to make sure to stress how much we appreciated the whole experience. From the minute we arrived we felt welcomed and at home. The staff were attentive and cheerful and the food was distinctive, delicious, delicate and dam good. It will likely will be a bit of time before we are back to Lisbon, but there is no way that we won't have our first and last meals the next time we are in the city at Cafe Nepalese!

Yelp
What a treat. After eating a number of different meals in Portugal, this was a delightful different dinner. We started with a appetizer from the house. We then dined on grilled lamb and paneer masala. The lamb was tender and flavorful. The paneer was delicious and the sauce was out of this world. We had asked for medium spice and it was perfect. It came with a side of rice. The two dishes were perfect for a meal for two. The house then gave us a delicious port as an after dinner drink.

Yelp
Great food and excellent service every time (4 or 5 times) we have eaten there for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
What a gem to find in Lisbon, only second time I have had Nepalese food. It was outstanding. Service was amazing with the staff dressed in traditional attire. The staff was very helpful in explaining the dishes .

Yelp
What a nice find! We love Indian/Nepalese food and were delighted to stumble upon this place on yelp as a nice "diversion" from all the tapas and Portuguese food we'd been eating for the last week. And wow, was it good!! A gorgeous interior is at once welcoming and comfortable. Service was terrific and attentive. And the food? Amazing! The garlic roti was warm and soft, as it should be. I was talked out of ordering my first choice, the chicken with chili, because the waiter said it was incredibly hot. After dismissing the initial warning about the one chili dip served initially only to be brought to tears when I went ahead with a big bite, I thought discretion was the better choice. And the recommended substitute with the tomatoes and green peppers was fabulous. A lot of heat but still a ton of flavor. The wine was excellent, and the surprise at the end was a complimentary glass of ruby port to serve as dessert. This place is awesome! More like 4 1/2 stars!! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
The restaurant decor instantly transported us from urban Lisbon to a stone-walled, heavy-timber framed mountain lodge high up in the Himalayas. The staff are native to Nepal and are friendly and very knowledgeable. The lamb and prawn dishes were incredible. The bottle of vino verde was inexpensive any complimented our food choices very nicely. Bon Appetite!

Yelp
This place is absolutely delish! Service was just as great, probably the best during our stay in Portugal. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Simple, tasty lentil soup. Not amazing, but solid. Whole Wheat Roti came out piping hot and perfect. Their Saag Paneer was our favorite (it's the brown 'n' green kind). The Mixed Vegetable Curry wasn't anything special, but the 'Kukhura Ra Bholte Khursani' (a la Chicken Jalfrezi) was superbly fresh - the gingery, tomato-based sauce was delicious and was almost Italian tasting. A nice surprise. A not so nice surprise was the surprise cover charge which the waiter said was for the two 'complimentary' hot bites that were served to us at the start of the meal. A meat dumpling and a small samosa.

Yelp
Fabulous find on a quiet street in Lisbon. The interior is beautiful with old stone walls and beamed wooden ceilings. I got the impression this is a family owned restaurant and everyone was nicely attentive and spoke English fluently. Menus are in Portuguese with an English translation below each item. Most importantly, the food is amazing! I ordered chicken with fresh mushrooms and asparagus in curry sauce as my entree. This is a dish I'd order again in a heartbeat. The vegetables were so fresh and the curry was delightfully flavorful and spiced. We started our meal with 3 dipping sauces (mint, tamarind & hot sauce) and papadam. They really brought the heat with their hot sauce! In fact my husband was cautioned against ordering a super hot dish until he tasted that hot sauce. He's a guy who can really handle heat & decided to switch from the chili chicken to a tomato curry dish that had a perfect amount of heat and spice for his tastes. Excellent recommendations from our waiter! Our waiter asked us how we had discovered their restaurant at the end of our meal. He wasn't familiar with Yelp, so we gave him some information about it. He was so delighted when we explained we'd be writing reviews that he brought us 2 glasses of Ruby Port to finish off our meal! 4 1/2 Stars!

Yelp
Very nice place, small but very cosy. The food was very good, different than usual. The service was great. You should make a reservation if you are planning to go on the weekends, it gets busy . The mango icecream was really good.

Yelp
Best Nepali restaurant in Portugal. Great service and an amazing food; very close to true Nepali taste (I've been there).

Saranya A.

Yelp
This was our first meal in Lisbon and I am happy we went there. The service was great, they were attentive to us though it was busy. The food was delicious, full of flavour. We got the rice with fish in special sauce and their house lamb curry. Highly recommend this place, authentic Nepalese food.

Yelp
I admit I'm not the best person to check the difference between India and Nepal but from what I see, this places makes sure to have some distintions, that's good. Usually a crowded place on fridays and weekends - by locals and foreigners. Price is medium and staff is very friendly. Lights are dim but is comfortable environment. I had a glass of wine (good selection of wines and average price per glass) and the lamb. Be careful: the medium spicy is actually spicy!

Yelp
I've had Nepalese food all over the world, this place ranks as one of the top 5 in my book. Waite staff is friendly, attentive and great with suggestions. Binod is the best server!!! This place is a must, don't miss the boar.

Yelp
Wonderful! After a few days of grilled fish I needed some spice - so I searched for 'spicy' on Yelp and this popped up. Excellent service, excellent food (we had the chicken with mushrooms and asparagus, the paneer with spinach, garlic roti, and a bottle of alvarinho - all delicious, all worth ordering again). It was Jan 1 so we were worried when we saw many dark windows along the walk from the metro - but we were very fortunate and they opened their doors promptly at 7.

Yelp
This place is amazing ! I have never been to Nepal, but being the foodie that I am, I've tried many different Nepalese restaurants. This one is one of my favorites. The food was one big experience of different flavors and spices, which is something I have missed a lot here in Lisbon. Different flavors from ginger, coriander, garlic, mustard and just the perfect combination of peppers and/or chili. I got a veggie dish, and it did not disappoint. I tried small bits from my friends who all had coconut flavored foods, and this was also very delicious. When you order they ask you how spicy you want it and give you little samples to test, so you won't ruin your meal by going too spicy or not spicy enough. Definitely a place I would recommend to anyone who loves to taste food and all the "hidden" flavors. We were a group of 7 people, sharing 2 bottles of wine and sparkling water, 2 cola's and 1 whiskey. We split the bill and ended up paying €20 each, which is not a lot considering the amount of food you get. (They also provide complimentary appetizers)

Yelp
A little gem of Nepal in the heart of Lisbon. The service at this restaurant was excellent. Food was creative, flavorful and simple. The best thing about eating south East Asian cuisine is you get to share and try different dishes - which is what we did of course! We started off with the Garlic Noti which was flavorful, delicious - perfect and crisp. For entrees we had the masala shrimp and the chicken coconut curry. We topped it off with the dessert for two which included homemade mango ice team (as one of us is allergic to peanuts, cashews and nuts). Asian cuisine in Lisbon can be a hit or miss, this was definitely a hit.

Yelp
We came to this place to eat something different than Portuguese food. Food was out of this world delicious, all the food was good. Service is fast friendly and great. Just be careful if you ask for food super spicy because it will be super spicy.

Yelp
Oh. My. God. This as the nicest, tastiest, best serviced meal I've had in YEARS! We were given a chicken tempura and potato croquette to start with a variety of dips. The service from the start was incredible - the waiters were so polite and eager to please it was lovely to see :) Then, the main...amazing! Me and my friend had chicken from the grill, which came with a salad and we also ordered coconut rice. I can't say enough how tasty it was! It sounds so simple but it was amazing! They then finished off with a free sweet port each. Honestly, I can't put into words how great this place was!!!! I'd give it 6 stars if I could! ******

Yelp
Stopped here on the last night of our vacation in Portugal. It was truly a superb experience... everything was top notch. The ambiance/ décor, the service (thank you Uman for your great service and perfect recommendations), the food (everything was so fresh and felt so nourishing), the beautiful stemware, and last but not least, my favorite part - dessert! We had the homemade coconut ice cream and it was truly delicious. If you are considering dining here, go!

Yelp
Nice environment, friendly staff, good food. A little bit expensive, but really recommended.

Yelp
Why go to a Nepalese restaurant when you are visiting Lisbon for just a few days? I don't know exactly why, but I did and do not regret it. When I arrived at 7:30 in the evening the place was totally packed like a sardine can. This is really my only complaint. Difficult to move through the dining room for guests and staff. It also puts the next table maybe 25 cm away. I had the garlic bread , spinach and dried bamboo soup and lamb curry. Everything was excellent. I only wish I was not claustrophobic! I will return but during less busy times.

Tido V.

Yelp
Excellent food, very tasty, and subtile difference with other local cuisines. Friendly waiters, very decent prices.

Yelp
This place was packed the day we ate there, and for good reason. The food was really, really good. I also ordered a masala chai afterwards, which came in a gigantic pot that seemed bottomless, and it was some of the best masala chai I've had outside of India. So good.

Yelp
After having grilled fish for a week, my taste bud was screaming for some spicey goodness! And this is there best place for it. I had the chicken with asparagus (asked to make it spicey) and this turned out one of the best meal I had in Lisboa! Just fantastic!!! Highly recommend this place!!

Yelp
Beautiful rich filled huge samosa with delectable condiments in a busy simple resto in midtown lisboa is where I found myself with friends. The curries that followed were spiced well and balanced the meat tender albeit the chicken a bit too dry but I was comparing it to succulent lamb. The bread was baked well and the rice fell into single grains...I did not go for the mango pistachio ice cream but ended with himalayan tea. The place would have gotten 5 stars if they had left out the amuse...which was just not up to the standard of food that followed. PS if you are vegetarian you are also spoiled for choice ...a must eat in lisboa- enjoy

Yelp
Really enjoyed it. Coconut roti was great. Service is attentive. Complimentary glass of port with check a great treat.

Yelp
We came in late without a reservation and not dressed nicely. We were still treated graciously. The service was impeccable. They spoke perfect English and were happy to explain the menu. The chicken samosas were fresh and the best I've ever had. The offered naan was also fresh from the kitchen and quite tasty. We had the tasting menu and it was a great variety of food and filing. With a glass of wine, Pellegrino and the offered appetizer and naan the bill was just €53 - a great deal. The free glass of port at the end was a lovely end to a memorable dinner. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Excellent food and drink and outstanding service. Prawns in coconut sauce to die for. Very noisy customers, not to blame on the restaurant.

Yelp
The Momos and the Service are awesome!! One of the best Restaurants i have had in Portugal. The green chili sauce is very tasty.

Yelp
The food is simply delicious and what stoked me more was the environment, the people working there are really friendly and love to know that you are enjoying, always ready to curate any detail to make that happen.

Yelp
After visiting Gulbenkian Museum on a Sunday (free), the restaurant is a short walk away. For lunch we had the cover which consisted of 2 small appetizers (delicious) as well as a chicken samosa. Ordered lamb with lentils in curry and chicken kukhura masala which came with rice. 1 order of naan and 5 draft beers... All for 38 euros! Every bite of the food was fabulous. We ordered medium in heat as we like some kick, and it was just right. The lamb and chicken literally melted in your mouth, probably best I ever ate. Definitely recommend a stop here! Service was also great!
