Casa Pestagua Cartagena Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"Set within Cartagena’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, this thoughtfully restored 17th-century mansion—the only Relais & Châteaux property in Colombia—keeps its colonial bones intact with double-height ceilings, Baroque details, oversized chandeliers, Moorish-inspired arches around a lush inner courtyard and garden, imposing stone columns, wooden beams, ornate stonework, and arched windows. The 16 distinctive rooms and apartment-like suites stylishly blend the hotel’s colonial past with contemporary Colombian energy, featuring antique and custom-made furniture, contemporary Colombian art, colorful textiles, locally sourced decorative pieces, and large bathrooms with oversize open showers, roomy vanities, and cabinets with stunning inlay stonework; only the toiletries (from Italian brand Ortigia Sicilia) veer from a sense of place, but they smell so divine I don’t consider that a flaw. For a hotel this small it offers more amenities than expected—swimming pool, gym, 24-hour room service and concierge, bikes, access to Aurum Spa at sister property Casa Agustín a five-minute walk away, and arranged access to ACASI, a private beach on Barú Island—while the living-in-history ambiance is lovingly tended by staff who make you feel like you’re their only guest. Five-star, 16 rooms, starting around $585 USD for a deluxe room; roughly a five-mile, 20-minute drive from Rafael Núñez International Airport." - Shivani Vora

Casa Pestagua (Cartagena, Colombia) 10 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Back in the 18th century, when the Count of Pestagua built his mansion in the heart of Cartagena’s old walled city, he meant to make a statement — namely that he was a man of tremendous means, with a house to match his status. Apparently humility wasn’t one of his virtues, but no matter; the Count’s hubris is our gain. Today Casa Pestagua remains one of the finest mansions in Cartagena, a colonial-era masterpiece modeled on the elegant Moorish palaces that were then so in vogue, recently restored to its old splendor and converted into an eleven-room hotel. The air of colonial elegance remains, from the peaceful courtyards to the sunny and spacious rooms, but a few centuries on, the ostentation isn’t nearly so much in evidence. These days the atmosphere is decidedly relaxed, with service that’s professional and friendly rather than stiffly formal." - Tablet Hotels

Stay At This Cultural Haven On Your Next Trip To Cartagena - Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"Set in a restored 18th-century colonial mansion in Cartagena’s walled city, this five-star boutique hotel reopened after a $15 million renovation that preserved Spanish architectural details—such as grand arches and a Moorish fountain—while adding modern comforts. The property, the country’s only Relais & Châteaux hotel, offers 16 uniquely decorated rooms and suites (with five new suites added during the renovation), traditional furnishings and Colombian art, a refurbished lobby, a fully equipped gym, and access to the Aurum Spa at Casa San Agustin. Guests congregate in the lush central courtyard with its outdoor swimming pool, and an onsite gourmet restaurant led by chef Herberto Eljach plus an adjoining bar provide food and drink options. Its central location puts Cartagena’s major attractions within easy walking distance; rates begin around $350/night."

Casa Pestagua is, without a doubt, the best hotel experience I’ve ever had. Everything about this place is magical: from the stunning colonial architecture to the peaceful atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re in a private oasis right in the heart of Cartagena. The staff went above and beyond to make me feel at home, always warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. My room was beautiful, spacious, and so comfortable. Every detail felt thoughtful. The food was outstanding too, with fresh flavors and elegant presentation. And the location couldn’t be better: you step outside and you’re right in the middle of Cartagena’s old town, but inside it’s pure tranquility. I’ve stayed in many hotels around the world, but Casa Pestagua is on another level. It’s not just a stay, it’s an experience I’ll never forget.

Casa Pestagua was a perfect home base for us to explore Cartagena! The location was great, right near and within walking distance to all the things we wanted to explore, lots of really good restaurants. Love that it was also right near the Botero statue. Breakfast in the restaurant each morning was delicious and we made sure never to skip it. Our room was very spacious, bathroom was a decent size, bed was super comfortable. ||||The staff was so attentive, accommodating, helpful, and genuinely so sweet. German was a star, the entire front desk and guest services team, and Amanda the bartender who makes a great drink!!

Casa Pestagua makes you feel at home and goes to great lengths to make sure you are comfortable. Scratching your leg at breakfast? There will be a bottle of bug spray at your table before you can say "mosquito". Come back after a day out sweating in the heat? Cold towel and a bottle of cold water will be within arm's length. There were a couple of incredibly minor issues we encountered during our stay, largely due to undiscovered damage from prior guests; the hotel went out of their way to make it right (when they didn't have to - the issues were quite minor). I would love to stay there again.

Hotel Casa Pestagua is the place to stay at when visiting Cartagena. Not only is the staff so kind and helpful, but the rooms and accommodations are superb. Nuris helped us plan our entire itinerary, and we loved all of the activities and meals that she coordinated. Kat took care of us from the moment we arrived and made sure that our experience was nothing short of incredible. We are so grateful to the entire Hotel Casa Pestagua staff for making this one of the best trips we've had!

What a wonderful hotel! Staff and accommodations are first class. We even spent time at their sister hotel nearby which was also great. We booked the Pestagua suite and it truly felt like our home in Cartagena. Our only suggestion would be to offer more variety for lunch, dinner and room service. Thanks for a great time!
