Google
Came for the vegan flavors (mocha and chocolate). The mocha is definitely more coffee than chocolate which made it pair well with the chocolate sorbetto. Lovely consistency. Perfect stop to cool down while walking around old town.

Yammmy T.

Google
The best ice cream in town! ❤️😍 Their flavors are incredible, and you can truly taste the real fruit. They also offer great vegan options. Definitely a 5-star experience!”

Lauren K.

Google
Some of the best ice cream/gelato I have ever had! Very smooth and decadent. Highly recommend

Whether you're outdoors when it is 95 degrees in the shade or it is a Spring day worthy of a long walk, Casa Rosada always has a gelato flavor on the menu that will make you smile. My favorite reasons for stopping in are (1) the ever present welcoming smiles of the family members who own this cozy place, and (2) the creative, gelato flavors that rotate on the menu. I always order a large gelato with two scoops: one scoop that is always on the menu paired with one scoop of their newest flavor. I know a large sounds like alot, but their Argentine gelato is so good I typically reach the bottom of the cup by the time I've strolled several blocks away. I am glad Casa Rosada is in my city, yum always!

Google
They have so many one-of-a-kind flavors. I got a medium w/ Oreolato, Sambayón, and Banana w/ PB&J!!! 😋😋😋

Aishwarya J.

Google
Skipped several other great options in the area to try the gelato here since the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. It ended up being far too sweet and entirely forgettable. The owner had a really unfriendly attitude. It felt as though we were inconveniencing her just by being in the shop despite us being the only customers. I might as well stick to store bought ice cream next time.

Google
If you are looking for a good ice cream, this place is to go! Finally found ice cream kept in metal containers with their lid closed! Taste is good! I am originally from Turkey and even though this place is from Argentina, this is the closest I could ever find to Real Turkish ice cream.

jen O.

Google
Really really good gelato that’s homemade and has vegan dairy free options! The vegan chocolate tasted like real chocolate ice cream! They also had gluten free cones which made the experience so much better! I got vegan pistachio which was really good too!

Yelp
My favorite gelato spot in the DMV. Really good flavors & nice staff. The tiramisu is my go to every time I've been there. The prices are pretty good too for the quality. Good place to walk to in old town. Theres a place to sit in the front & in the back. Definitely check this spot out.
google avatar

Jess T.

Yelp
Did I spend $25 on three small cups of ice cream? Yes. Is that an outrage amount to spend on ice cream? Absolutely. But it was seriously some of the most delicious, flavorful gelato I've had in my life. The first bite was like a punch of flavor. Definitely not a daily thing but if you're craving gelato this is the place to go.
google avatar

Cass A.

Yelp
Quaint location in old town. Plenty of flavors, creamy texture, and incredibly rich. Be aware there's minimal seating inside.
google avatar

Christal B.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious gelato. The tiramisu flavor and the Oreo/creamcheese/coffee ( or baileys, I can't remember) combination was decadent. The staff was super friendly.
google avatar

Fred B.

Yelp
Excellent gelato. Very small place with limited indoor seating if it's hot out or raining. There is a small patio out back as well. Service is outstanding and very open to letting you taste just about anything. Why am I just now discovering this place. Check them out.
google avatar

Eden H.

Yelp
I came here with my family because my brother said it was the best in town and he was not kidding! There were many different and interesting flavors to choose from. Additionally, the guy that was helping us was patient with my picky family as we asked to try different flavors before picking our favorites. Additionally the place itself is so cute and homey! Definitely going to be coming back the next time I'm near old town!
google avatar

Johnel T.

Yelp
Amazing quality, unique flavors (I got sweet corn as one) and kind staff. New favorite ice cream/gelato spot in the area!
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
We discovered this delightful spot while meandering on King St. Worth seeking out for their unique gelato flavors (although my husband & I enjoyed basic strawberry and chocolate options), exemplary service, and comfy pet-friendly back patio. They even have a puppy ice cream cup topped with a "bone".
google avatar

Sophia M.

Yelp
So many great flavor options, including vegan ones! I told the person there that I'm gluten free and she said only one flavor (oreo) has gluten and that each flavor has its own scoop. That made me feel so much better since shared scoops are always a concern of mine. Not much seating in the store itself but great to take your gelato on the go in Old Town.
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffee, and good milk-based ice cream even if they may taste too milky for some flavors, diluting some. As a result of this, their stellar ice cream is going to be dulce de leche, which is a milk-based flavor. I also tried their pistachio ice cream which, while too milky and didn't have as strong of a pistachio flavor as I'd like, I still liked it for the plentiful pistachio chunks that gave it a pleasurable taste and crunch. It would be my favorite pistachio ice cream if they upped the pistachio flavor in the cream as well. Friendly people, proud Argentine heritage displayed throughout the store with a homey vibe. Little seating inside, more outside at their back patio. Would be nice to see an addition of Argentine bites in store as well.

Yelp
I love old Town Alexandria. This is the perfect little spot to visit. It's kinda small so expect to eat outside. The weather is gorgeous in the summer so this shouldn't be too much of an issue. There are also benches outside. The mint ice cream was so delicious...Very minty fresh. The strawberry gelato was a little stale. It had a slight freezer burned taste. I'm not sure if it had been in there for a bit but it sure tasted that way. I also taste tested the dulce de leche. It was delicious. I think I'll try it next time. Service was quick. The staff were very quick and courteous.

Mari W.

Yelp
Why, oh why? We've been coming to Casa Rosada for years because their pistachio gelato was one of the closest we've found to real Italian gelato--smooth, creamy, and with a pistachio flavor that's hard to find. But on our last visit (September 2025), I immediately noticed a change in both flavor and color. Now it's overly sweet, and the pistachio taste is faint. Sadly, it may be time to find a new spot.
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
First time visiting this local gelato shop. I chose the pistachio gelato and it did not disappoint. It had chunks of pistachio, very creamy, and great flavor. The employees were very helpful and friendly. The menu is easy to read and you get to sample any flavor you want. The prices are reasonable for the amount and quality of gelato you get. There is a back patio with a couple of tables, however, the inside of the shop has limited seating. I highly recommend checking this gelato shop.
google avatar

Angel P.

Yelp
Such a cute little gelato shop with some interesting flavors. The entrance is currently through the back door, and they have a small gated patio with a few tables. They also have a few vegan alternatives. I got the kumquat flavor and it was pretty good. At first, I thought it was a little pricey but I got a good portion for a small size. Service was good and quick.
google avatar

Zack G.

Yelp
Tiny gelato spot with a fair amount of both indoor and outdoor tables packed in Tons of both classic and unique flavors of gelato from a very friendly Argentinian Jewish couple. Apparently the husband is a retired chemical engineer who started making gelato as a hobby, but eventually decided to dive-in and pursue it full-time Some flavors are seasonal, including a charoset gelato around Passover time
google avatar

Carolyn M.

Yelp
Tasty gelato and terrific service. I've been coming here for years and bringing family and friends. It's an intimate shop and has limited seating inside and in the enclosed backyard. You can't go wrong whatever flavor you choose. Enjoy!
google avatar

Anya R.

Yelp
Casa Rosada is absolutely my favorite place to get gelato I stay in D.C and me and my friend make the trip to get gelato! It's very creamy and a great portion!! They opened the inside and have many flavors as well!!
google avatar

Anne J.

Yelp
Terrific find! Casa Rosada is a little gem tucked away in Old Town, with delicious flavors. The pumpkin pie flavor was one of the best pumpkin ice creams I've ever had, and the tiramisu... wow. Friendly service tops it off as a winner!

Esmi S.

Yelp
Husband and me decided to try a new ice cream spot. Needless to say - we found a new favorite ice cream shop. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Our friends took us here, and we went close to closing time. That being said, it wasn't super packed and we graciously had space to sit. The place was really clean and inviting with the bright colors. There were a variety of flavors being offered. What I also really loved about the gelato was that they were stored in tin cans vs. being displayed as mountains of gelato (what you usually see in touristy spots in Rome). The owner was kind enough to let us try a few flavors. That helped us decide on dulce de leche and stracciatella - two very "Italian" flavors. The Dulce de Leche flavor was delicious with a smoky caramel note, and the stracciatella was a nice clean vanilla and chocolate chip flavor. Another good sign is that when we began to eat the gelato, it began melting rather quickly - according to my cooking teacher in Italy, this means that there are no gums, preservatives, or unnecessary additives. The small size was quite affordable at $6.50. Highly recommend if you're looking for a taste of Italy through authentic Italian gelato in the area.

Yelp
A very good local, family-run gelato place. Great service and delicious halva gelato. Good portion size for the price.

Frank V.

Yelp
The best ice cream that I have eaten in this area and I love ice cream. I tried several of others ice cream including Jenni's and I think it is better
google avatar

Grace B.

Yelp
Went with some friends before they closed last night and they were SO delicious! Despite being a small shop, they have a ton of flavors, lots of seating , and fast service! They have a huge back patio with seating in the back! They let me try like 5 flavors because I was so indecisive and they were all great but the hazelnut and pistachio are the obvious correct choices here! both were creamy and sweet and nutty and had pieces of their respective nuts in them! They also give decent portion sizes, filling the cups w a mountain of gelato! The 2 staff members were so sweet and it really feels like a family operation I feel excited about supporting! I can't wait to go back ! it was delicious and must visit!!!

Yelp
Casa Rosada means pink house in Spanish. This house is pink, but the name also alludes to Argentina's presidential workplace in Buenos Aries. Currently, you have to enter this business through the back door. My wife and I walked through a gated patio area to get to the back door. The patio had 4 tables with chairs. The interior is small, so ingress/egress can be tight. They had 18 flavors of gelato and 4 flavors of sorbet. They have vegan gelato and sorbets along with some sugar free gelato. The sugar free gelati are only prepackaged in small containers. Products are homemade so quantities are limited. Some flavors may not be available. They offer 6 types of classic Argentine drinks. Cortado, espresso, affogato, cappucino, cafe con leche, and americano. We tried 4 gelato. All of them were very rich and creamy with moderate sweetness. The taste and texture was like premium ice cream. 1) Pistachio Good natural pistachio flavor with notes of vanilla and egg yolk. No green food coloring. The butteriness was excellent! Well-made and deliciously satisfying! 2) Tiramisu and Fig We got a small size with 2 flavors. The tiramisu had a medium roast coffee flavor with an underlying light mascarpone flavor. It didn't remind me of tiramisu. It was more like a cappucino flavor. That's the only negative. Otherwise, it's very good. The Fig gelato had a modest fig flavor like that of Fig Newtons. We love Fig Newtons, so this was great! 3) Sugar free Pistachio This had the same great flavor as the sugared pistachio above, except this was less sweet and had a coconut milk flavor. I was told that they use a sugar substitute blend that has stevia in it. The other sugar free flavors are mocha, vanilla, and chocolate. You get them yourself from a glass door freezer and then pay for it. The service was informative, attentive, polite, and quick. The store was clean. The customer floor space was small so it got packed with people quickly. Just wait outside until there's space. They have a restroom, but we didn't use it. There is street parking in the area which is paid via mobile apps or parking ticket machines. We met Raquel, one of the owners. She was pleasant and willing to talk about her products. She described some of flavors and the natural ingredients used. They make premium products that are worthy of their premium prices. We will definitely be back and I recommend a visit.

Yelp
So, so good. Hello legitimate vegan gelato!!! On a whim while down in the area, I remembered having happened upon Casa Rosada while looking for vegan ice cream haunts a while ago. Fortunately, they have great hours, including on weekends. Unfortunately, they are a challenge to find (do not rely on your gps - it's on South Payne between Commerce and King and even then, the door points you to a little alley where you find a fence that you open and go to the ACTUAL door.) Be not dissuaded. Once you enter in the tiny space (room for four only - no indoor seating), they have the most interesting and impressive selection of gelatos including sorbets, vegan and sugar free varieties. I even saw a dog cup too. I tried the vegan vanilla gelato, hubby tried the strawberry gelato. He loved it, I loved it. We are already plotting when we will go back and when we were sitting in the car, his only buyers remorse was that he hadn't gotten a larger size. I was also impressed that the vegan flavors are met separately, completely eliminating any risk of cross contamination. So smart.

Yelp
Trying to beat the heat with our favorite gelato...Tiramisu/Coffee and Pistachio/Oreolato gelati from Casa Rosada Artisan Gelato in Alexandria. This place is the best!
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
I was craving something sweet... I had driven or walked by Casa Rosada (pink house in Spanish) many times but had not yet stopped to try. There is a sign in the front letting you know you need to enter through the back patio. When you open the gate, you will see a few tables and chairs and the door to go inside to get your treats. I was greeted by two employees and looked at the different flavors offered. Once my eyes saw "dulce de leche", I did not need to look any further, so that is what I ordered and enjoyed.
google avatar

Ruby S.

Yelp
Came back today and it was as amazing as the last with the building being open and able to enjoy the best home made ice cream in Alexandria and on the patio!
google avatar

Susan

Yelp
Chocolate orange was delicious!!!!!!! Absolutely enjoyed this experience. Not usually a fan of chocolate flavored anything but the orange was wonderful.

Ar W.

Yelp
The gelato was delicious. It's pricey ($6 or $7 for a small) but the portions were bigger than other shops. Given the reviews, I was expecting friendly staff. I was there at an odd time and my daughter and I were the only customers in the shop. We weren't greeted and the person working didn't say a word when we approached the counter. It was an oddly silent and awkward encounter which was kind of off-putting. It's definitely delicious and we will go back, but I was just surprised.
google avatar

Eileen C.

Yelp
Great gelato on upper king. I love that they have vegan alternatives too for my lactose intolerant friends. Usually they have a takeout window (literally a hole in the wall), but this time we went inside as apparently a car had damaged the side of their building. They also have patio seating! Generous portions as well and quick service. You can't go wrong here!

Natalie R.

Yelp
Decent gelato for old town prices (inflated due to location). Wish toppings, at least hot fudge or whipped cream, were offered.
google avatar

Lora K.

Yelp
I love that they're family owned, have unique flavors, as well as vegan options. You can sample any of the flavors. I actually preffered the vegan pumpkin over the regular dairy one. The vegan ones are soy and coconut based and theyre not as icey and are still pretty creamy compared to other vegan ice creams ive had. The walnut cream was so good! Lots of pieces of nuts and a great amount of walnut flavor. There's good outdoor seating but it's also nice to just walk around outside the station.
google avatar

Ronald M.

Yelp
Where to start? I'm not big on ice cream but this place has made me crave it like no other place. They have a limited batch of flavors available as pints, depending on the season. They also serve afogato, which is an espresso dripped on top of ice cream - my new favorite way to have ice cream. The inside is cramped so don't go expecting to hang out for a long time, rather take your ice cream to go. The staff is always prompt and curteous with me when I go order my ice cream.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I don't go anywhere else for gelato. This is the real deal. I love the little patio out back. They even have a few non dairy flavors that are vegan which are all also surprisingly delicious. The owner is always there and makes sure you are taken care of efficiently.
google avatar

Kat B.

Yelp
The arroz con leche gelato has become the love of my life. There's a lot of outdoor seating but the start of the show is really the gelato. Creamy and sweetened but not too sweet. Amazing!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
[Coronavirus review] This place is open as a takeout window (and does take Apple Pay as well as cash), but you can order pints and things online. I've always been a bit underwhelmed by the ice cream scene in Alexandria, but the flavor choice here was impressive. They had vanilla mint chip, which they claim was an accidental combination that worked, and I must say that boring old vanilla really benefits from the synergy, and their finely flaked chocolate is delectable. I also ordered some chocalate-ish flavor that I couldn't quite figure out (chocotorta?), but which tasted good anyway. What's more, they had a number of vegan options and even gluten-free cones, so pretty much anyone can get in on the action. I'm excited for summer.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
If you're looking for good local ice cream, try this. Casa Rosada is a small family owned business. In spite of it being small, it has a large variety of flavors. Gelato is the main specialty of course. They also have dairy free sorbets. Casa Rosada is located in a small building at the corner of Payne, in what looks like a house. It really is small inside. There's only a few tables. It has a few seats outside. The service is very friendly, and they let you have samples. Sizes here are kind of big. The smallest is even a pretty big size. It's about $4 or $5 each. They also can mix flavors. I like to mix the chocolate and the mocha, which are each good on their own, but together they totally kick ass. They change their flavor lineups. It also sells treats for dogs. Owners can bring their pets on the patio. They close for a few months in winter.
google avatar

Zachary H.

Yelp
This little Argentinian gelato shop has absolutely fantastic gelato and a wide array of flavors. My girlfriend and I went here and really enjoyed what we had, both getting Dulce de Leche and Oreo gelato. The only thing to note though is I don't believe there is an indoor seating section if that is what you're looking for. You order at the window outside. If you don't mind that, definitely check this place out for fantastic takeaway gelato.
google avatar

Jose P.

Yelp
Consistently the best ice cream (Gelato) in Old Town hands down! Once in a while, we go and try other new places, but we end up coming back over and over to Casa Rosada. It is the authentic Argentinian style Gelato just like the one you'll have in Buenos Aires. Service is great as always and, of course, 100% local
google avatar

Lilian D.

Yelp
500 pounds of sugar and not gelato.... It's honestly way too sweet and not the correct density to be gelato. I had to throw it away after 4 spoons...
google avatar

Lori W.

Yelp
Chocotorta!! My new favorite flavor. Hope it stays on for a long time. My waistline would beg to differ. Have been supporting this incredible locally owned gelato store for 7 years since we moved here. The nicest people and oh-so-talented with the best flavors. Always a treat to come here. Next time I will get Maddy her own pup-cup!

Yelp
I had my review saved as a draft, it should had been posted a lot sooner and not two months since my visit. Good offering and service for a hot sunny afternoon. I tried one of their flavors earlier this summer. I stumbled with the place by accident and after feeling reluctant to stand in line at another more popular spot in the area. My presence while siting in the bench brought the curiosity of a dog whose owners had to stopped after the refused to move one inch while looking at my ice cream. They sell doggy cones. So the doggy was quite satisfied and enjoying every lick it took. I will comeback again to the area to visit the place while I tried one of the local restaurants.

desiree s.

Yelp
This is a small ice cream shop with about 20 different flavors to choose from. The lady was friendly and gave us a suggestion since it was our first time. I had the mango sorbet which didn't have much flavor at all. My boyfriend had the banana Pb&j gelato which was good if you like bananas and peanuts. Overall we wouldn't go back because the sorbet lacked flavor. They had a bench in front of the window for 2 people to sit but no other seating. I would suggest some tables and chairs for people to enjoy their cold treats.

Shawn S.

Yelp
A miracle Argentina gelato shop-- real custom daily fresh - busy with a strong local following -- changing flavors

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Customers blocked the entryway. I was expecting more! I've had better. Too sweet. The ambiance was great though.

Sam W.

Yelp
Cute gelato shop off the main King Street in Old Town, VA. Limited seating options but lots of flavors to choose from. My partner got strawberry and I order pistachio. Would come back!

Lorna M.

Yelp
Great gelato, if you ask me. I will say that on a Saturday around 9pm, it was quite busy (roughly 9 people seated in the outside patio area and over 10 gelato lovers waiting in line). The shop was quaint, but charming and I felt at home. Speaking of, one of the workers shared that the location was once a home! (lucky little home owners! what's that like, huh!? I wouldn't know ha) Anyway, I ordered the oreolato, Italian version of cookies and cream. It took a second to finally get it, but once it was in my hands, it was gone faster than you could say gobble gobble! That's how you know it's some good cream! Gobble gobble!

Katlyn B.

Yelp
Amazing!! my son and I loved getting some non-dairy/vegan ice cream, so flavorful and rich. It was a pleasure to meet the owner too, we had a lovely conversation. :)
