The 10 Best Pintxos In San Sebastián’s Old Town - San Sebastián - The Infatuation

"Casa Vergara is a gorgeous, contemporary pintxo bar that serves very underwhelming food. So why is it on this guide? Well, it serves a specific purpose: it’s directly outside La Basilica de Santa Maria del Coro. At night, people gather on the church steps to drink, chit chat, and possibly meet a mysterious backpacker/future love of their life. Come to Casa Vergara, order a glass of cider at the bar, and join this fun nightly tradition, because life in San Sebastián is about doing things that feel good (i.e., eating, drinking, and romanticizing everything to the utmost degree.)" - sylvio martins

AVOID. unpleasant place overall. There are so many other pintxos bars worth your time, money and experience. Though interior and seating looks inviting from the outside, as soon as you speak someone from the counter you’d feel otherwise. 1. Servers look unpleasantly unhappy (like theyre unhappy to serve you, unhappy being there) 2. food is served COLD (literally & figuratively!) They don’t bother heating it for you like most pintxos bars in the area automatically does. 3. taste, id say 2.5/5. very MEH. DONT be fooled by the stuffed urchin. It’s a total waste of everything - money, space in your stomach, and most especially the urchin umami flavor. need i say more? Just go somewhere else, please. Other pintxos bars deserve you more.

Google
Bad Pintxos, and a dirty and awful smell in the toilet area downstairs smelling like sewage. The anchovy pintxos had soggy bread, octopus overcooked and soggy, the sea urchin not nice, the mushrooms were the best but still not crispy. Would not return or reccomend

Google
Great Pinxos! Try the stuffed sea orchin, the zucchini with truffled cheese, the caramelised foie cream or any other of the many options. Top it off with great beer or martini.

Google
Not my favourite meal in San Sebastián but was great for a light snack! We got sea urchin cream and seafood ceviche - it was nice but not as mind blowing as other places I visited. The grilled prawns were freshly cooked which was nice too but the prawns were slightly over so was a bit tough

Foods were different and tasty, design is good. But we ordered 1lt glass of sangria the bottle was full of dirt it was disgusting! They didint care to clean or wash a bit ! Maybe bottle turned 10 tables then came to us!

We ordered the urchin pincho and it was just alright. The quail egg and mushroom pincho was excellent. Recommend ordering off the hot menu for the freshest pincho

Casa Vegara was such a lovely surprise — fresh, flavorful, and full of heart. Whether you’re vegan or not, the food here is absolutely delicious. We tried the crème brûlée pâté and the duck brioche, and both were incredible. The pâté was creamy and rich with just the right touch of sweetness, and the brioche was perfectly tender and packed with flavor. You can tell everything is thoughtfully prepared and made with high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff were warm and attentive throughout. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed, satisfying meal that feels indulgent but also nourishing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something a little different — I’d come back in a heartbeat!

Yelp
Casa Vergara was the sleeper hit of our pintxo crawl, introduced by an Airbnb guide and instantly etched into memory. We ate like happy vagrants on the church steps across the way, because Atari is perpetually slammed, which it ought to be given how deftly they marry quality and price. A piece of white fish arrived lacquered in squid ink so the exterior went midnight-black while the flesh stayed pearly and perfectly moist; saffron threads perfumed the whole thing, and it sat in a sauce so impossibly good I found myself chasing every last streak with bread. A pepper stuffed with crab was light and also dotted with umami squid ink sauce. Then came a sea urchin, baked in its own shell under a light cheese gratin, the roe turning lush and custardy beneath the heat. The texture-and-flavor duet was one of those Basque-country revelations that resists translation into words and simply has to be experienced. Service was quick and good-humored despite the crush, prices were more than fair, and the whole scene (glasses clinking, plates migrating out to the steps) felt like a postcard of San Sebastián come to life. I would eat here every day if I could.

Yelp
I was in San Sebastián for a few days and we tried a couple of places, but ultimately came twice here in the short period of time. I don't know why it doesn't have a lot of reviews this place is amazing and it's so lively inside. Service was great we went right before they were closing the first time and they were quick to serve us and gave us some suggestions. Must try are the scallops which I've attached of picture of. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This place blew me away with how bad it was. Staff are unbelievably rude m, stuck up, and unresponsive. The food, oh man, I did not think I could find bad food in San Sebastián but the food here was literally inedible. The oysters specifically were the worst I've ever had and insanely overpriced. A uniquely terrible experience, beware.

Yelp
I don't know if there is such thing as "too many pintxos," but Casa Vergara makes sure we'll never find out. See, the problem is, they're just too good. At a € or two each, it's easy to just toss a few on your plate and worry about calories and bank accounts later...and that's exactly what I did. Zero regrets. Fresh ingredients, friendly service, clean dining room and, of course, delicious pintxos. Stop by and toss a few down your gullet and wash them down with a house red. You'll be glad you did.

Yelp
Pretty awesome Pintxos bar, great location and vibe plus delish food. We are vegetarians and they had pretty good selections, enough for one to keep going back. We came here twice and it was super fun. Service is great too. Don't be discouraged by crowds. Totally check it out while in SS!

Yelp
We dropped in on a rainy night and it was packed, luckily we found a table. Many pintxos were consumed. They had a sea urchin that was so good I went back for seconds. Great place, will be back.
