Casa Violeta from Tulum to Pop Up at Fat Radish on Upper East Side | Eater NY

"I'm intrigued by Casa Violeta's upcoming pop-up takeover of the Fat Radish on the Lower East Side during Fashion Week (Thursday, September 6 through Saturday, September 8); chef Alex Sala will serve a menu of his signature dishes that blend Italian and Mexican traditions using local ingredients, with options that include zucchini carpaccio, beet risotto, and saffron meringue." - Stefanie Tuder

This is my favorite place to stay in Tulum. The rooms are beautiful and beds are super comfortable. The staff are friendly and kind. The cuisine is so delicious, I rarely eat anywhere else in Tulum. The location is central enough to access hot spots for dancing and nightlife. It’s quiet, romantic and gorgeous!

I have been traveling to Tulum since 2012 and Casa Violeta is one of those few left calm hotels in Tulum. You really feel at home there, My room was beachfront one and it was so comforting to feel asleep with the sound of the ocean waves and wake up with the sound of birds. You can really feel and connect with nature. One of the remarkable things of Casa Violeta is the food, the breakfast and home made bread is delicious and they have a plate made with Octopus and potatoes that made me remember my very first trip to Amalfi, where I ate if for the first time. The flavor was amazing. The staff is super kind, Giampiero the hotel Managing Director is very chilled and relaxed, you can fill that vibe all over the place . I really recommend this amazing spot to rest, to relax, to read, to enjoy nature , to disconnect from stress and to feel nurtured. This place really feels like the old school Tulum.

Casa Violetta is a little heaven in otherwise busy and overcrowded Tulum. It is in a very quite location and being a small boutique hotel it was perfect for our stay. There are few cabanas and we had perfect service in the restaurant and from the staff. We ended up staying in the cabana right on the beach and we couldn't be any happier. To be this close to the edge of water was unreal. The cabana was perfect size and outdoor bathroom/shower (enclosed) was soo cool! The food is super wonderful at the restaurant by the way! Beach lounge beds were great to have during the day and at night too for stars watching. The manager of the hotel, Giampiero went above and beyond to ensure our stay and our beach wedding ceremony were perfect!!! We really loved the place and stayed an extra day just to spend more time in this paradise! So much better than busy Cancun, Playa del Carmen or even North Tulum. Cannot recommend more.

Our family were in Tulum in May for the wedding of my son and daughter in law. We held our rehearsal / welcome dinner at Casa Violeta for 75 people. We planned & organized the evening with Carla, the event coordinator, before we went to Tulum, and with Giampiero, the manager of the hotel, once we were in Tulum. Both were incredibly professional, reliable, so accommodating, and all around wonderful to work with. I cannot thank them and their amazing staff enough for the most wonderful night at Casa Violeta - it was magical! The food was truly delicious; served family style with a wide variety to suit all guests. They even especially accommodated our vegetarian and vegan guests. The table decor, lighting, and ambience in the jungle garden was more than we could have imagined. It was the most beautiful location. Thank you, thank you, thank you Giampiero and Carla and the entire Casa Violeta team for being so attentive , kind , accommodating and all around fantastic !!!

This review is for restaurant only: My husband and toddler went here for breakfast. We ordered two dishes with eggs, a fruit platter and drinks. Except for fruit, portions were pretty small, so we also ordered bread. They brought 3 pieces of toast bread with butter and jam (a dish on the menu for 80 pesos). We asked for more bread, they brought a piece and a half. To that we said we just want a lot of bread. They brought 2 pieces and a half with butter and jam again. We said we do not want that, only bread. The male waiter said "no problem" and walked away. At the end, we were as we assumed charged 160 pesos extra for the bread with butter and jam AND ADDITIONAL 90 pesos for service, which was never mentioned before. We don't mind paying for food we order (which was bread only) and also service when satisfied, and not when forced to do so.

I went to Casa Violeta for a yoga retreat. It was absolutely amazing. The staff is incredibly friendly. The room and entire resort was so clean. The food is amazing- so fresh! The beach beds and additional beach seating is perfect. It was rainy season and it was still incredible. I will most definitely be back.

Yelp
I love this boutique hotel! It's so peaceful and beautiful. It includes a sweet complementary breakfast and they have an amazing restaurant and bar. Each room has their own cabana bed and umbrella on the beach! Service is excellent food, superb, accommodations are bohemian glorious! I will certainly come back. The price was affordable. There are yoga classes daily. This is more of a relaxing place than a heavy party place.

Yelp
We spent 4 days at this hotel and overall I'd recommend it. It's located on a good area of the strip so you're close enough to the activity but not right in the midst of it. This means you can relax without all the hubbub but a short walking distance from the main area. The hotel is well designed and lush. However, you should take note of which room you're staying in. The jungle rooms would be unbearable in my opinion with the loud generator and the lack of ac and breeze. We originally were going to be in Artemisa, which is jungle side, but we paid additional to get the Jazmin beach room. Jazmin is probably most suitable for a family since it has 3 beds, but we were happy to have the space. That room also has a nice patio area for lounging. The cleaning staff come daily and were thorough. The room was comfortable but I'm not sure it was worth $380 a night. Beyond being on the beach, the room doesn't have anything to offer. - There was a cockroach in our room one night - there's only one light in the room - there's no ac and even with the fan on and windows open, the heat was unbearable - the bathroom curtain doesn't cover the whole window so people can see in - a tree blocks your view of the ocean from the patio Each room has its own day bed reserved on the beach and the beach is private, which was great. Do note that there's a ton of seaweed all along the Tulum shores, but the water is such a pretty blue. The restaurant has good variety and the staff are very helpful. You also get continental breakfast with your room, which is nice. They offer yoga daily and you can exercise in the yoga space on your own as well. The front desk was helpful and even helped me with updating my dinner reservation at another restaurant. So overall, a good experience. Docking one point for the value of the room and bc they were unwilling to refund us when we originally booked a room before covid hit.

Yelp
Really disappointed with our experience at Casa Violeta. My husband and I booked the Violeta cabana for 3 nights via Casa Violeta's website and after reading dozens of reviews. The website completely misrepresents the room, listing a king-sized bed (the bed is queen-sized and creaked loudly with ANY movement, making sleep (or anything else) very disrupted. The "private patio" is not at all private. There is absolutely no "180 view of the beach" unless you are standing on the beach itself - there is a concrete wall on one side, a blocked view on the other side and a view of the beach bar directly in front of the room a few yards away. This is, at best, an "ocean view" room only. The website also describes a "beach-facing desk" in the room which is not accurate (the desk faces a wall but who cares). The gardens are beautiful as is the restaurant, but during low season there is only a handful of menu items to choose from. This is completely understandable but why not print out a new menu instead of listing/mentioning the dozens of offerings that are not available? Having stayed in Tulum annually for well over a decade we knew immediately this place was not for us. The office was closed since we arrived from the airport after their 6 PM closing time and we were told the office staff would arrive at 8 AM. Not so. We were told to come back at 10 AM. Still no staff until 10:30. We explained our situation and were offered a different room. (None of the rooms has a "180 view of the beach" as described except possibly the Magnolia cabana, which was already booked.) We asked to be charged for just the one night and refunded for the other 2. We showed the office staff member the inaccurate description of the room on their website which she said was the fault of their website designer. Really??? The owner refused a refund stating instead their steadfast cancellation policy. We left anyway and found the PERFECT beachfront bungalow elsewhere. We are now disputing charges through our credit card company based on false advertising.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place for dinner and were so pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was absolutely incredible. With the ocean breeze, moonlight, beautifully lit restaurant.... it was a dream! Our waiter Julio provided excellent service: thoughtful, kind, personable, very knowledgeable and honest about the dishes. We couldn't stop ordering food! My favorites were the cacio e pepe and the truffle ravioli. Sooooo deliciously rich. Ribeye and tuna steak great as well. Cocktails, wine, desserts were ALL good!!!! So happy we found this place. Cant wait to go back.

Yelp
First of all, we had a fantastic time. Food was good-great. We were directed here for the pizza and it was pretty good and definitely best we found in Tulum. Thin crust and with the freshest basil, the margarita pizza is a classic done well. The classic ceviche was wonderfully fresh and pungent. The steak tacos were pretty good. But the best by far was the grilled octopus! Wow! Crisp and still tender. The roasted potatoes, cabbage and pickled onions all worked together to make this dish pop. We also tried the octopus pasta and the lobster linguini. Both were good and had a wonderfully light pomodoro sauce with bits of parsley and basil. The service staff was fabulous and the views are amazing.

Yelp
Charming beach front retreat This is a charming, intimate seaside retreat. The highlight for us was the beachfront location. It was so peaceful and uncrowded. The loungers on the beach are the perfect way to spend the day soaking up sun with loved ones or by yourself with a book. The drinks are great, the food is fresh, and the staff is friendly. The rooms are basic with a rustic cabin type feel and Tulum touches. Note: Don't forget to wear insect repellent!!

Yelp
I stayed here a month ago and my experience could not have been better. The staff were friendly & helpful, my room, which was right on the beach, was clean & comfortable. The restaurant staff was exemplary & the food was fresh, delicious & inventively prepared & presented. Cudos to Meerko in the restaurant & Fernanda at the front desk! We hope to return soon!

Yelp
So here's where I'm at.... A year and a half ago, I booked the room Magnolia at Casa Violeta. It was my husbands 30th birthday and we came to Tulum with 2 friends and all stayed in the same room. It was wonderful. Clean, bright, and you practically fall into the ocean from the front steps. Because of such an incredible stay, we decided to book one of our two night last minute trip to Tulum (I wanted to try a new hotel called Chiringuito for one of the nights as well) but I couldn't get past how much we loved Casa Violeta. Let's just say, that was such a mistake. I don't know what has happened to this place but the management is TERRIBLE. Everyone is rude (if you can even find someone) This time we booked Gaia. It was damp, wet smelling, never once had hot water, I had to kill a cockroach inside. Granted I knew full well the room was near the road, it was the price point we needed... but NEVER EVER AGAIN. It was the worst stay I've had in a long long time. There was no breeze at all, the generator is SO loud. I feel awful because I recommended Casa Violeta to some friends who are heading to Tulum in a few weeks. I can only pray their stay will be better. To top it off--- My husband had bought a bottle of wine for the beach. We aren't those stingy people who bring their cooler along everywhere with them to try and save a dime. We always eat at the nicest places and do all the things. In this case, we wanted to be able to walk the beach and take the bottle with us since it was our last day in Tulum. My husband asked the bar tender at Casa Violeta to uncork the bottle for us. He said that he would for a $250 peso corkage fee. Are you serious? The bottle itself cost $200 pesos. My husband said that was too much and as he was walking away the bar tender said "Okay $180 pesos" Seriously? Where does it show on the menu that there is a corkage fee? And how does the cost of the corkage fee come down magically? Such a rip off. We aren't even drinking the bottle in the restaurant. We wanted to walk the beach. What a bunch of bs, made up costs. Having spent thousands of dollars at Casa Violeta a year ago, BLECH. Really annoyed us. We ended up walking to the pizza place across the street from Casa and they opened the bottle immediately and we ended up drinking it FOR FREE in the actual restaurant with our pizza. So stupid. I gave Casa Violeta 2 stars because of how fondly my memories are of the family run, quaint, lovely hotel of a year ago.....but if I were reviewing based based on my last stay, its a one star rating. So sad.

Yelp
Stopped to eat here and enjoy the beach. The food and drinks were great. This is one of the only places that wasn't trying to charge us $15 to access the beach.

Yelp
We had a lovely meal from beginning to end. Food was excellent, the octopus dinner the best I have had to date. Very attentive service in a sublime setting. Loved the furnishings both indoor and outside. Magic sunset. Highly recommend!

Yelp
While the beach is beautiful, the rooms are nice and the location is great, this hotel is impossible to recommend due to management. We had two rooms recently. The first night there was no water. When we talked to the person at the desk (there were four different people during out stay), we were told the water main was broken but would be fixed shortly the next day. The next day the water was sporadic and never close to hot. The following day - no water. We spoke to management every time and were told we would credit some sort of credit on our bill. When we checked out, we were told the manager lived in the US and we had to fill out a complaint on our bill. This would be sent to the owner who would determine the credit. In following up, the hotel either doesn't answer or has no response. We don't know how to get in touch with the owner.
