This review is long overdue. We had our engagement party at Casanel Vineyards last year, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The venue is absolutely beautiful—peaceful, scenic, and the perfect backdrop for a special occasion. The team went out of their way to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day of the event. Their support allowed us to fully enjoy the celebration without stressing over the little things. Everyone we interacted with was professional, attentive, and kind—especially Theresa, who was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. We would absolutely recommend Casanel for any special event—but even if you're not planning one, it's a fantastic spot to visit for a relaxing afternoon in a serene setting. And of course, the wine is incredible—a true highlight of the experience.

I've been coming to Casanel for years, not only because of the wine, but also because of staff who are like extended family to me. The special events this winery puts on are always top notch, the grounds are beautiful, and their wines are some of the best that Virginia has to offer. Their Carménère is a rarity in the US and not to be missed! Special recognition goes out to Anna and her crew for always being so attentive and kind! Can't wait until my next visit!

Nice lovely winery, wine is really good as I enjoyed the tastings. They have a live band that plays and an outdoor seating area as well. The fireplace is nice and cozy to sit at. They grow their own white and red grapes which is nice. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I do recommend coming here to enjoy the delicious wines they offer.

I partner with the vineyard doing sea glass tree classes and crushed glass events - Painting With Friends by Tammy. They are pleasant to work with and extremely accommodating. My guests enjoy sipping wine while being creative. I highly recommend if you are a business to partner with them because they have a beautiful location, amazing wine and wonderful staff.

Google
Just ok wine, and we found “Anna” to be rude and dismissive when she addressed us regarding our pet, which was completely contained in her zipped stroller. The staff thought there was an infant in the stroller until I said something. I am glad that there are other options in the area which don’t treat guests poorly and are welcoming to pet owners.

Visited this vineyard recently and had an amazing time!!! It was beautiful, has amazing picnic areas where you can bring your own food and enjoy their wine. Wine tasting was around 20$ and they had a great selection. Highly recommend!

My family and I had a wonderful experience. My boyfriend proposed to me here at the Casanel vineyards & winery. Theresa and her team were the best, they made this experience very special for us. The wine was AMAZING! We will definitely be coming here again!

Google
Fabulous experience on Memorial Day. 7 wine guided tasting was wonderful. We enjoyed every wine - with the Pinot and Cab Sav as standouts. The setting is lovely and quiet with many spaces to spread out and enjoy your visit. But the customer service pushed this from a 4- to a 5-star experience. All of the staff were friendly and gracious. We will be back!

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard out in leesburg. They have several different seating areas and had live music today. The upper decks overlook a pond and vines. The wines were great- loved their Rose, one of Pinot Gris and a couple of the reds. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Also- please note- we pulled up and first thing we saw was a huge Trump flag, not a deal breaker as they're severing up wine, not politics.. we learned after talking to owners daughter- the flag and dying vines aren't part of the Casanel vineyard but a neighbor. So please don't turn away-- it's a great place and friendly staff and the trump flag isn't theirs. They don't seem to concern themselves about politics but serving up delish wines! All are welcome!

Yelp
We had a nice glass of wine at Casanel on a Sunday afternoon. I tasted the rose, orange Pinot Gris, and oaked Pinot Gris. I liked the rose best, but my husband generally doesn't like roses, so I we got the oaked pinot Gris (Patricia Marie). It's a lovely setting, lots of outdoor seating, some covered and with ceiling fans. Also, a dog friendly outdoor area which is always good good for us!

Yelp
Another first for us...this winery is so pretty inside with great wines to offer. We loved hearing the story of the winery and the family who owns it. Our pourer was so excited that my husband literally just retired, she gave us a discount! We will be back. Great experience and wines!

Yelp
I had a great time at this winery. The white and rose wines I tried from the wine tasting were good. I also liked the charcuterie items. The inside seating area is nice and the outside seating has a great view. Everyone here was nice and it was also interesting to hear about how the winery got its name and how it got started.

Yelp
Very picturesque winery, with a comfy small town vibe! Casanel Vineyards and Winery is one of those perfect vineyards and settings for enjoying great wines on a lazy weekend. The vibe here has a very local small town appeal where everyone in the community knows each other and comes here to enjoy each other's company. I came here on a stop as part of a wine tour - birthday celebration that I attended. It was the perfect setting to start things off. We received an incredible personal tour of the winery from the owners, walked the vineyard grounds and learned so much about wine making from the owners. They were so hospitable to our large group and the tour was nothing but outstanding. It was very educational and thought-provoking. Not to mention, who knew that there is so much effort and expense that goes into making a unique, single glass of wine!? I sure did not. After the wine tour, we took part in several tastings and flights of their wines. They offer so many great wines and blends. They were all incredible, with pronounceable notes and unique in their own rights. There was a blend that is named after one of the owner's daughters that was incredible and came as part of a trio of wines. It's called the "3 Sisters Pinot Gris Trio"....with a blend name "Isabelle" being my favorite! I enjoyed at least two glasses of it and bought two bottles to take home with me because it was just that good. lol. I also enjoyed a 2020 Cabernet Franc that was quite memorable.....a must try and take home item if you are into Cab's. It's full body with a lot of depth and juicy, dark berry notes. We also enjoyed lite fares offered by the winery which there isn't an extensive menu here, but you will find great bites/eats to tide you over at least while sampling their wines. Nothing but great marks and things to say about this winery. From the hospitable owners to the delectable wines, you're in for a treat when visiting Casanel Vineyards and Winery. It is so welcoming, laidback and such a relaxed vibe that you get lost in time and almost don't want to leave. I know I didn't! A must visit when you're considering touring wineries around the Virginia wine region.

Yelp
Happy 14th birthday to Casanel Vineyards. Our visit today coincided with their birthday celebration. We really appreciated the live music! Located in Leesberg, Virginia the Casanel Vineyards is a short drive off of Route 267. The facility has two beautifully maintained indoor wine tasting areas. There is a large outdoor seating area with a variety of seats and tables. We tried two flight tastings and enjoyed the wine. We also bought havarti cheese, a salami tray( three different kinds), olive tamponade, and sea salt crackers. Everything was fresh and delicious. The people who work there are very welcoming and nice. We had so much fun, that we didn't realize that it was last call. Stunning scenery and great areas to walk around the vineyard. What a lovely afternoon.

Yelp
Super short version: Great winery with good service that is also not rowdy. Fantastic place to go for a glass or three of quality wine in relative peace and quiet. Short version: Casanel, a small family owned winery, simply put our favorite winery bar none. Notable for their Cabernet Sauvereign (hard to grow in Virginia) and their Petit Verdots, all of their wines every year have been good to great. Service is good, pricing is fair and reasonable considering the market, and the atmosphere is welcoming and warm. They do allow dogs and food outside, but do enforce a no dog and no outside policy indoors, in part to ensure that there always is a place that is quieter for those who seek it. Long version: My wife and I judge wineries on three scales - quality of the wine, quality of the service, and other (which includes the views, value for price, food options, etc). Wine Quality - Casanel wine has been consistently good to great in spite of difficult years. Although they have had a change in wine makers, the samples we have tasted of the product that their new wine maker Adam has produced, I believe, will continue their reputation for quality. While many of these produced by Adam are not yet available for sale, they also have a strong library of wines that are well worth checking out and, we believe, value for money. That said, our pallet tends to lean toward the dry reds (PV, Cab Sauv, and others), but they also produce a Chardonnay that has gone through malolactic fermentation and lightly oaked, producing a flavorful wine that is not a butter bomb. They also produce a few other whites and reds that are also worth a visit, including Norton (both still and as a bubbly), a Carmenere (an all but lost burgundy grape), and Pinot Gris in several styles. In the warmer months, they also have several roses including last year an orange wine (based on a white wine made like a red). And that is about half of their offerings. If I had to say that they had a weakness in this category, it would be that they don't have that much to offer sweet wine drinkers, but they do have an option or two. Service - The Casanel winery team does all they can to create a warm, welcoming environment to their guests and, being that we are frequent visitors, they have become our winery home away from home. Notable is Theresa, the operations manager who with her team handles the front of the house. Victoria does a great job keeping interesting events going on. Nelson, the owner, is a character with great passion for the US - while you may not always agree with his views, you certainly will never question his love of what his hard work and the opportunities of this nation have granted him. Elliotte does a thousand jobs including helping with communications and the website. And one cannot go on without mentioning Anna - the general manager who quite literally is the glue that keeps everything going. Hers is a thankless job of putting out fires, dealing with difficult customers, and ensuring that her team (mentioned or not) have the resources to have all run smoothly. If Casanel had a weakness in this area, it would be that this is not a place for loud drunken parties nor a place for children and animals to run unrestrained or without supervision - but to us, that is a strength and not a weakness. Other - As noted above, this is a catchall category for us. Casanel's main tasting room was hand built by its owner, and the secondary tasting room is a historical structure. Both are lovely as are the grounds. While the wine is a bit pricey, the quality is there and therefore in our books represents a good value. Further, there are a number of efforts that occur behind the scenes that also contribute to the experience. Be it from the vineyard crew who manage to keep the vines healthy and attractive in spite of weather and pests thus allowing quality fruit to be had to the production staff ensuring that quality never fails, there is significant effort that goes into the bottle before it is labeled. In closing, when one considers the consistent quality and superior customer service this small winery provides, it certainly should be on your list of wineries to check out.

Yelp
4.5 star place. 1. Beautiful winery, great views 2. Great service 3. Wine: Some I liked, Some I didn't. I did like the fact they have some light snacks. Better than none 4. Parking: ample to hold lots of visitors I liked they're not bustling like some places and it's nice and quiet and intimate. I also like the humor in decorations. Great place

Yelp
Beautiful out of the way place. Large and rural space. Wines are good. Staff were brusque and aloof.

Yelp
What a treat! On a road trip to Leesburg, VA, we stumbled upon Casanel Vineyards and Winery. I mean, literally. We were headed to a different winery and arrived after it closed. On the way back into town we drove past a marker for Casanel and turned in. The main house is beautiful. The service was fantastic. We were able to walk around and see the incredible landscape and then pick out two flights of red wines to sample. Generous pours! Each wine was tasty. I highly recommend checking this place out, especially if you're planning on doing a VA vineyard crawl.

Yelp
They were so nice to welcome our bookclub. Great weather and a beautiful venue. And the wine was great too.

Yelp
This is a gorgeous winery near Leesburg, VA, about an hour or so outside of D.C. We really loved the grounds and the large building where we had our tasting. It looked like the perfect place for a wedding or special event - high ceilings, a fireplace, lots of large windows with natural light. We got a spot at the tasting bar area and had a really nice guide. Overall, I didn't love any of the wines, but my husband liked a few. I still enjoyed the tasting and learning more about the different varietals they have. We decided to hang out for awhile afterwards and enjoyed a customized charcuterie basket that was really good. Nice place to visit.

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard. That was the perfect place to start my 50th birthday celebration. Theresa was incredibly accommodating and easy to work with to save a table for our party and even made a sign for me. We got a variety of bottles of wine and everybody really enjoyed them. Can't say enough about how kind everybody was. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Excellent winery in a stunning setting. Definitely try the Carmenere. The white wines are also very good

Yelp
This place was a nice surprise. I did not really plan to come here when I did, but I am glad that I did - because it rained about 2 hours after I left. I think the best part about this place is how they have a really relaxed scenery. They have limited seating outside, but I think it adds to the charm so it does not get overcrowded. I like the view as it is not dominant in the conversation you may have, but it is nice to have to just look out from time to time. The gazebo and the grapes area is off limits but you can walk around the buildings so that is something. The wine was okay. I did not taste much of a difference than buying from this location or other wines from the local wine shop, but it did add a good feeling to be where the grapes are grown and drinking the wine there. I do like that aspect. If I could I would come back. There are plenty of wineries around this area and it does take time to travel around and visit them all, but this one holds a good spot at the top of my list.

Yelp
How have I not written a review for Casanel yet? I first came during COVID when they required reservations. We sat inside their beautiful, woodsy tasting room. I'm a sucker for high wooden ceilings, so this place has me. The lake out back adds to the ambiance. I bought a couple of bottles then, and still have the Red Spark at home. We returned yesterday and enjoyed the wines yet again. This time we sat outside on the covered patio with a few friends and their dog. The reds flight was delightful. We were all impressed by the cab sauv, as it's not a wine that Virginia usually does well. A friendly employee came by and chatted with us for a bit while we enjoyed our wine. In the two hours we were there, the winery was pretty quiet. I think maybe three other groups stopped by, which was fine by me for a relaxing Sunday. They don't have food trucks so make sure to bring your own snacks (to eat outside).

Yelp
Celebrating VA wine month with my first harvest of petit verdot at Casanel Vineyards and Winery. I volunteered Saturday to help harvest and my first time doing and I loved every minute of it! I was greeted by Katie and taken to the Vineyards so I could start working right away lol! Lunch and wine were offered during lunch break! I had the pleasure to meet Nelson and his wife, there were so welcoming.. I had the opportunity to share my table with Nelson during our lunch break and had a chance to ask so many questions about the process of wine making (i had many lol ) and he eagerly answered them! After few hours of harvesting I decided to do some wine tasting. Lets talk about the winery now, reservations are required but since i volunteered I got the VIP treatment, lol!! Katie was nice to inform Erick so he could save me a table.. I decided to do the RESERVE flight that included all red wines and a port . I loved the petit verdot , K2 red blend and the port. I decided to buy a bottle of Patricia Marie (because my sister's name is Patricia lol) to go . Let's talk about the cleaning process as I seen them disinfect tables periodically between customers. Masks are required inside and they do required u to have them on while u are away from your table. I really enjoyed how customers are greeted at the entrance and ask if they have reservations, then inform about the requirements and no kids at this moment which was a plus for me, lol.. I had so much fun harvesting, wine tasting and enjoying the VIP treatment! Thanks Katie, Erick , Nelson, the few volunteers I got to meet and the workers for the wonderful time. .. #spreadlove #drinkmorewine

Yelp
This was my first time visiting today and what a great place!! The place is beautiful inside and out! The wine is good, you can bring outside food in for a simple picnic and the staff is really friendly. The inside has high ceilings and plenty of room to spread out and social distance. All staff are wearing masks with antibacterial stations throughout. Lots of outdoor spaces to spread out in multiple areas around the property. Plenty of parking. Beautiful pond in the back with a gazebo if you want to stroll around and picnic tables throughout the grassy areas. There's two main patio areas and some smaller sections around the buildings. The previous photos didn't do this place justice as it is such a fantastic place!! I highly suggest you call ahead to make a reservation!

Yelp
Warm ambience that makes you feel welcome, amazing wines and good service! We didn't try the food, you can bring your own picnic on the patio!

Yelp
This was a great experience visiting this winery. The staff was very attentive in explaining the different wines and the history of the winery. They have a couple of options you can pick from to find that perfect wine. On this particular day, they had a live jazz band with a vocalist. Nice atmosphere for drinking some wine and listening to some jazz. Ample amount of parking for large groups.

Yelp
This past weekend we were lucky enough to have our baby shower at Casanel Vineyards & Winery - it was a dream come true. We had initially met with Theresa Church before the event to look at the space and taste the wine. We were blown away by her hospitality, the delicious wine (not to mention the history behind it) and the beautiful scenery. It really felt like Theresa cared and listened to everything we were looking for. Her service throughout the experience was exceptional. She was attentive and was there for us every step of the way. Our guests from that evening bought wine to take home and are still talking about the baby shower and how wonderful everything turned out. We couldn't be happier.

Yelp
Winery is beautiful and staff is very friendly. The only thing I would recommend is expand your menu. There are so many different foods that pair great with wine beyond cheese and crackers. Perhaps some hot foods? Property is beautiful.

Yelp
Such a peaceful winery! They are so welcoming, and the grounds are beautiful. Brought our pup, and did their white wine tasting. Loved their Pinot gris, the first one in the flight :) we also bought the Spanish cheese pack which was surprisingly really delicious and a good palate cleanser between wines. Highly recommend this spot when visiting the Leesburg area!

Yelp
Stopped in for a wine tasting one humid summer afternoon. I was greeted by the wine maker (unbeknownst to me at the moment) Katie DeSouza. She poured all my wines - so me being the Engineer that I am - I had lots of questions about the winery - and of course Katie was able to answer all of my questions. I tasted everything they had on hand for tasting that day. Overall, a fun and enjoyable wine tasting experience! The wine tasting room is rather large. As I recall, there is also some outdoor space - but I was not paying close attention to those areas - as it was rather uncomfortable out - I was enjoying the air conditioning! #CasanelVineyards

Yelp
POSITIVES: -Family owned winery, most of the wines are named after their family -Price point for bottles of wine are from $20-$50 -Tasting Room: Fri Sat Sun Mon 11am-6pm; last call is 5:30pm; $10 for tasting 6-7 wines -They offer vineyard and wine production tours -Beautiful views of the vineyard, lush greens, and water with a gazebo -Several outside seating areas -Pets are allowed outside -Helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff NEGATIVES: -Food isn't too good, selection of cheese and charcuterie is pretty poor and overpriced -I got the baguette $3 and Claudel brie cheese $7.50. The bread was pretty terrible, very chewy but the cheese was god awful - it's served in a can with a pull tab, not kidding. I was almost expecting to find tuna in there lol. WINE TASTING: 2016 Ellianna - very crisp 2016 Patricia Marie - neutral 2016 Chardonnay - mildly oaky/buttery 2017 Jose Rose - flavors weren't really developed in my opinion, very young rose 2016 K2 Red Blend - good table wine 2015 Petit Verdot - medium bodied, fruit forward 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon - not very full bodied 201? The Full Nelson - Wine Enthusiast gave this 86 points 2015 Carmenere - really impressed with this, they are one of the few vineyards in the area that grows this grape and does it really well My personal favorites were: 2015 Petit Verdot - I got a glass of this for $14 which was very pricey considering the bottle is $42 201? The Full Nelson - I rarely like ports from Virginia but this one was solid and I ended up buying a bottle for $40. Highly recommend trying it if they have an open bottle around. 2015 Carmenere - I was lucky they had a bottle open of this as well ($50) and very unique. Also highly recommend! Overall spent about an hour here and sat on the balcony overlooking the water. It was peaceful and relaxing and thankfully the patio area has shade.

Yelp
My husband and I were passing through Leesburg and visited Casanel Vineyards so we could try a new winery before dinner. I'm happy to report that we had a great experience. The people were very friendly and welcoming. We started with two tastings and then I ordered a glass to enjoy on property. This might be my favorite winery in Leesburg based on the taste of the actual wines. I am still surprised that I actually liked each wine that I sampled. The grounds here are nice, however I would be lying if I said there isn't a winery with a better view...but the wine here is much better! The food and cheese menu looks delicious. I can't wait to sample the food on my next visit.

Yelp
Great winery! Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating options, plus you can bring your own food or buy some of the bites they have on the menu. We tried a white flight and red flight; the rosé and the K2 red blend were particularly delicious. Everyone on staff was super friendly and the overall setting was serene on a sunny fall day. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Where else do you get to have the wine maker do your tasting??? We were lucky enough to have Katie, the wine maker, treat us with her knowledge and down to earth personality! She was very informative and super cute to boot. Katie was extremely transparent about everything from where the fruit is grown to recommending some napa wineries for an upcoming trip. She made me feel like we could be besties like yesterday:) We visited 3 wineries today and this by far was our favorite. The business is family owned and operated and everyone who works there is eager to chat with you. We met Katie's dad and saw her brother working hard too. It's nice to support local business and even sweeter to support a well run spot. The grounds are beautiful and not your traditional large winery that you can't find a seat at. I dig this vibe. I dig Katie and I dig Katie's dad. I'm a fan of everything this winery is about!

Yelp
I visited Casanel with my family a couple weeks ago when we were in the Lessburg area. It was my second time visiting the winery so I was excited to go back. It was a pretty large group of us (about 10 people) but we were easily able to find a table to accommodate all of us on a Sunday afternoon in the fall (I remembered it being a lot more crowded the last time I visited in the summertime). Instead of doing a tasting we bought a couple of bottles of wine to split. I'm by no means a wine connoisseur, but I thought the wine was good! We spent a couple hours at the winery and during our time there we started to get hungry. We were disappointed to learn that no outside food was allowed, so we were limited to the options that Casanel had to offer. We bought a couple baguettes and some kalamata olive spread. Both were good, standard winery food TBH. It's nice that Casanel has a sizable indoor space if you want to visit in the fall/winter time, but I definitely recommend visiting in the spring/summer as well! The deck and patio area overlooking the lake is a really nice place to hang out and relax. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
The service was nice. The tasting room is cozy. The steel aged wine was enjoyable but, unfortunately, all of the oak aged wine we had left an aftertaste that was unappealing.

Yelp
Casanel (named in honor of the owner's two daughters) is a tiny winery; 7.5 acres of vine and 1000 cases/year, mostly estate. It's off the beaten path, but so worth it. But then again I may be biased; I went to one of my very first wine events ever here, where the owner gave us a personal tour of the property. Kathy did my tasting - and she was awesome. They have two tasting options; sweet and dry. I tried both. Whites: Pinot Gris: Fermented in steel; melon notes. Not bad, but not my favorite Pinot Gris. "Patricia Marie" White blend: Steel and oak, toasty and light melon. Chardonnay: Oak and Steel fermented; I tasted vanilla and it was a tad toasty. Certainly more complex than other Chardonnays I'm accustomed to. Rose: Very light bod and color, and not sweet at all. I'm typically not a Rose drinker, but I really liked this Reds: Norton: I'd guess this was a blend, because it was one of the smoothest and best Nortons I've ever had. Raspberry notes. I asked my server and she explained they fermented it in steel, which I'd never heard of before for a Norton. K2 Red blend: Very nice; a true red blend with 5 Bordeaux grapes. It's missing Malbec, but replaced it with Carmaniere, a little known red grape originally from Bordeaux but now almost exclusively found South America (and a nod to the owner's heritage). Port-style, "The Full Nelson": Very nice; one of the better ports I've had recently. Made with Norton. Dulce: Sweet white blend; Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, & Viognier. I usually don't drink sweet wines, but I did like this. Strong honey notes. But my favorite part is hanging with the owner, Nelson DeSouza. Nelson came from Brazil, but said he didn't fit in because unlike his brethren he enjoys work and dislikes going to the beach. So instead Nelson emigrated and founded several businesses, ending with this winery. What a great life story - comes to the USA, and founds a winery! We should all be so lucky.

Yelp
Great stories, bad wine (but it's all subjective right?) A gorgeous venue, breathtaking when you walk in. The building really put love and time into such a beautiful winery. I guessed they had to do weddings, and I was right. The ambiance was great within the space. Very open, yet lots of little intimate places throughout for you and your group to hang out with a bottle. They have a game corner, a lounge corner, an open area type happy hour bar seating area, and big screen tvs. I can see how they are perfectly set up to be the go-to-event spot. However, I did not like the wine, so no point me hanging out despite how much I loved the space. -Ellianna (Pinot Gris) is tart, it may have been over chilled -Patricia Marie (Pinot Gris) was earthy, as if a cork was tainted -Chardonnay was desserty, like a vanilla cupcake blended and wine poured through it in a sifter -Jose Rose (granted I don't normally like Rose, but I'll try them) this was probably the worst wine I've ever experienced in life-the tainted cork came out again, like they left the bottle in the fridge from last weekend's tastings with the cork floating in the bottle -K2 Red Blend needs to age, it's too light, with nothing to it -Petit Verdot drinkable, but for the price not worth it. Best of the tasting, with a smoothness that was delightful, but the fruit pops at the end I do love the stories of the winery, the naming of the bottles in the family, and the space they created

Yelp
I visited Casanel with friends today to taste prospective wines for my wedding. I liked the ambiance when we arrived and the staff were friendly, but the rest of our experience was disappointing. Our tasting flights were delivered in little condiment cups (an extremely small amount for $20) and the food that we ordered was given to us as a pile of grocery store packages of cheese, prosciutto and crackers. The food and drinks didn't feel special or appropriate for the setting, and it was below the standard of the other three vineyards we visited today.

Yelp
So surprised by this tiny, small production winery conveniently located near Leesburg! We stopped out on a beautiful Saturday afternoon as our friends were the featured musical artists. We had never heard of Casanel before and to be honest our expectations were not high as I had read they had a sweet tasting. We are not fans of sweet wines. Turns out they have some really wonderful wines and my husband and I very much enjoyed the tasting. The staff is wonderful. The woman who conducted our tasting knew the wines and shared stories about the winery and the owners. The winery is named after the owners, Casey and Nelson. Nelson immigrated from Brazil and built first a construction company then a winery after retiring from construction. It was all very interesting. We had the opportunity to meet Katie, the wine maker and also have a long engaging chat with Nelson. Lovely family that runs this spot. Another surprise - they grow all their own grapes and do not import from other vineyards. They are one of the first Virginia vineyards that grow Carmenere and produce a wine solely from that grape. We were lucky enough to be offered a taste of that as well since it is usually reserved for their wine club members. It's aged for 16 months in Bordeaux oak and had lovely cherry notes. Another surprise was their port style wine which they offer with a bit of dark chocolate. I was impressed as I am not a huge port fan, but I can see myself with a bit of a sip and some dark chocolate after a nice meal. We took home a bottle of port. The tasting room is gorgeous. Large fireplace, lovely views, several tasting stations and beautiful details throughout. They also have a smaller member's only tasting room and a nice outdoor patio where we spent our Saturday afternoon. They offer a 10% discount for active and retired military as well as other service personnel. It was nice to be able to take advantage of a discount and very much appreciated. We will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Pretty big winery. The place was lacking the winery charms. They had plenty of board games and space to host a large crowd. The cheese plate was pretty good.

Yelp
My favorite winery to date! Awesome friendly staff, very professional, pleasant, and helpful. A beautiful spacious space; easy to find, parking near to check in point, and lots of outdoor seating. We had a wonderful table on the balcony. Due to COVID tasting room was closed however flight selections were very tasty. Great snack selections. Only regret is that I didn't get there before COVID, but.. That just means I will have continue to go and hopefully soon with get to have the full experience of all that the winery has to offer. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We made a reservation for a Sunday afternoon. Service was IMPECCABLE. Kind and courteous and personable and quick. We ordered a red and a white wine and both were excellent. We also got some tapenade, crackers, and cheese and all were a great complement to the wine. Very peaceful and beautiful environment and we loved getting to wander down to the gazebo by the pond. So worth it! 100% advise to check this place out.

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard, great service, and delicious wine. Our favorite was the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Yelp
Large indoor space for tasting and snacks. It was getting hot that day so nice to sit inside. They were out of several items we tried to order to munch on. Service was forgetful and slow. The tastings come out in little plastic ramekins like they're Jell-O shots.

Yelp
The wife loved this place, while her friend declared the server as 'hit worthy' I would have hit him in another way as he seemed smarmy to me. But hey men are not my thing. Unless they are Norwegian & ply me with aquavit... Wines were great, pleasant setting... Nothing for chauffeurs to do, but they do offer complimentary drinks for designated drivers. I'd have liked a bottle of wine, but a water is what they mean. Wish they had told me this before I wondered off with a bottle from behind the bar... Worth popping by if your into metrosexual men & fine wines.

Yelp
My wife and I love the ambiance of this beautiful winery, and we love the light bodied red wines. Too many west coast and European reds are overly full bodied and not enjoyable. We want to taste the wine without it being overwhelmingly strong or bitter. Our favorite wine is the K-2. We also don't like strong coffee like the over roasted Starbucks, so maybe it's just our taste.

Yelp
My friends and I frequent the wineries in NOVA on weekends and what makes Casanel standout is that it is more calm and peaceful. It is never over-crowded and you feel like you get a more personal experience. On our most recent visit, Kate was our tasting guide and she was fabulous! I learned more about the vineyard itself and enjoyed her pace, knowledge, and genuine love of the vineyard and the wine. My friends and I had a great time, despite the heat of the summer, and we'll definitely continue to visit. Thanks, Kate !

Yelp
On our visit, the new winery was just built. The construction really is a blemish to an otherwise quaint and green scenery. The dirt muddied up the lake waters pretty badly. However, if you go in deeper to the vineyards it's a gorgeous stroll. Our pourer was really nice, even putting up with our confusing methods of payment. The wines were only decent (but hey, this is Virginia we're talking about). We did really like the port, which was a butterscotch/caramel-flavored liquid gold. We came for the experience so we still bought a bottle of merlot and chardonnay to enjoy there. The patio seating near the band was full (and haunted by stinkbugs), but we didn't mind enjoying ourselves away from everyone else. I know I only gave it 3 (really 3.5!!) stars, but I definitely plan to come back in the future once the grapes have matured and construction is cleaned up.

Yelp
We stopped in on a nearly 70 degree day in February, with the sun shining, seemed vineyards were quite popular that day, as there were lots of people here and at all the others we drove by. We were greeted quickly upon entering, even though they were packed and the tasting bar was too full for a space. A space quickly opened up and we fell in. The lady giving us our tasting was very friendly and helpful. The wines tasted OK, nothing special, but far from bad. They only had 6 to taste, including a syrupy sweet (6% RS) white, which tasted more like sugar than wine. They offer many nice treats to enjoy with your wine and ample seating indoors and especially outdoors in many areas. The construction of the place is slightly odd and so is their attention to detail, which seemed non-existent based on the decorations, furniture, construction and unfortunately this showed through in their wines. We'd probably go back if in the area, but at the prices they charge for their mediocre reds, you're much better off sticking to Stone Tower, which is close by.

Yelp
I love this place. So pretty, comfortable and really relaxing. Best winery around. The vines to the left when you pull in are not a part of the winery. They are a neighbor. Just a wonderful place

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard with a large, open tasting room. They have a lot of outside seating. We came on a Saturday and it was very quiet. The only downside was that there were a lot of bees flying outside. We got the Patria Maris (Pinot Gris) bottle. It tasted very thin and difficult to drink. 5 stars for the vineyard and 1.5 for the wine.

Yelp
Decided to do some wine tasting while out in Virginia. I didn't know what to expect but let me start by saying I love wine and frequent wineries being from Washington State. So, we basically went to Yelp and found some nearby wineries where we were at and thus stumbled upon Casanel Vinyards. It is a bit off the beaten path, they have their own vineyards and a large tasting room. They had six wines for us to try. We started with the two Pinot Gris' which I wasn't really a fan of. The Chardonnay was okay. The reds were all pretty light which isn't my first choice, I'd rather have a full-bodied red. Overall I was disappointed in the wines and ended up pouring most of the wine out. Virginia wine in general is different from the west coast wine I usually drink and all the grapes grown there are super young which definitely played a part in my opinion and the structure of the wine.

Yelp
We loved finding this off the beaten path winery! It was a gorgeous spring day and not super crowded (hooray)! Kayleigh was our tasting host and was enjoyable and very knowledgeable. We loved the reds more than the whites, with our favorite being the Petit Verdot. Which we enjoyed a bottle of on the back patio. Highly recommend coming to visit. It's a very relaxing vibe with some good wines.

Yelp
Warning: if you go around this time, driving with a SUV at a slow pace is MOST recommended. If we weren't driving at 10 mph while enjoying the scene, we would have lost a tire or something because the unpaved roads were extremely bumpy and there were no warning signs anywhere. There was at least 2 areas where it felt like an Indiana Jones ride... Nonetheless, the vineyard is quite beautiful, from the log cabin to the stonework on the tasting room. We had our tasting with Caty, one of the daughters. She was so personable and knowledgeable about the wines (she also wrote up the wine descriptions). If you have any questions about CV wines or wine in general, don't hesitate to ask her! You also have the choice among regular wines, the reserve list, white flights, or red flights.
