"The longtime Italian restaurant Casanova has apparently closed; the restaurant and pizzeria have served the neighborhood for decades. The standalone spot had been listed for sale for $1.6 million." - Melissa McCart

The menu is on the counter, and it's a bit inconvenient to read the list of ingredients without pictures. For some reason, the staff was not friendly to me, when my order was ready I could not understand where the payment terminal was and I was rudely told that I had to pay before leaving. It turned out that the terminal was far behind the counter and I had to give my phone to the staff so that they could bring it and scan it. The pizza is not bad, but for me, the price is too high for such a service

Google
Passed through this spot after a gallery showing. Thumbs and toes down! Pizza and customer service were in competition for most disgusting and they both won. I wouldn’t recommend to an animal. Run in the opposite direction! Just Yuck! 🤮

Showed up after placing a pickup order to a closed down restaurant. Work equipment and drills inside. Would be nice to know before wasting my time and money. Please take yourself off of online ordering sites like Grubhub and Too Good to Go

Stopped by before a concert for some food, excellent mini personal pizza, and garlic knots. Price was incredible for the amount of food received, and service was also really great. Very polite staff, we had such a great experience that after the show we decided to stop by again, now every time we go to St Vitus we've decided this will be our “go to” to eat.

Family of 4 had a delicious dinner. Chicken parmesan with linguini was perfect. Broiled shrimp with linguini was great. 6 large fresh shrimp. Kids had bowties with 2 huge delicious meatballs each. Fried calamari was lightly breaded and very tasty. Kids had mozzarella sticks that were pretty good as well. Our waiter was very personable, friendly, and patient. Great with the kids. This place has been in the neighborhood for decades. Definitely will be back.

Google
Was working in the area and popped in to get a quick bite. Ordered a chicken Caesar salad. Not only did it take forever to make, when I got to my car and opened the bag up I saw that there was little to no Caesar dressing, very few croutons that tasted stale. And to top it all off, it cost me 15.. outrageous. Never going back again

Google
In general, I really liked the atmosphere and decor of this place. It was a little noisy at times because of the nearby road, but its a great place for a romantic dinner. I'm giving 4 stars because the food was OK, but not great. It was a little bit pricey compared to other restaurants in the area and the pizza we had was dull and lacking in flavor. There is, however, a wide range of wine options available for a decent price. The tiramisu was divine.

Google
The place is very welcoming. Pizza is tasty. My favourite one is with pasta! I was not expecting it to be so goood!

Yelp
The guys are nice n cool, my people, typical borough Italian New Yorkers. I can't say much about the pizza, the thin grandmas pretty decent, the thicker Sicilian not so much, tasted like a freezer isle at best, crispy bottom though. The beef patty is standard freezer section and packs a heat kick.

Julia L.

Yelp
I hope the rumors are not true about this restaurant closing down. I been living in greenpoint for over 40 years and this has been one of greenpoints tried and true. Always get the chicken or veal Parm with a side order of salad. The wine is fresh and not at all rancid and dessert includes a free glass to take home. Always have plenty to eat even after the night is over. Service is great. Hope it stays open for longer.

Yelp
Our beloved Frost Street just closed so we decided to have our annual family Dinner at Casanova, we went in on Monday at 4pm and there was large funeral party in the back room and the service was still on point. We ordered baked clams, and a cold antipasto to start, both were delicious ! I had the Shrimp and Clam Fra Diavlo, it was the best I've had! We also ate 3 loads bread, and got a cheese pizza to go. It was excellent and we can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Likes - delicious food (good pizza and pasta) - quality, quantity and fresh - cheesecake yum (like a fancy bouncy cheesecake) - next to citibike, bus and 3blocks for train Dislike None

Yelp
This was the worst Italian food ever the absolute Worst Veal Parmigiana absolutely incredible Disgusting I called the next day to say I will never ever again go back and nobody should ever eat there , it was hot inside the restaurant no fan No air conditioning the worst Italian restaurant it should be shut down

Chunjai K.

Yelp
I just stop by to have some slices of pizza and ice tea. It was not busy afternoon. I was into sicilian style years ago but since I have napoli style I feel I like it more. They do a good pizza and the restaurant is very easy and chilling out.

Yelp
I stopped here tonight to grab some food and I'm happy that I did !!!! The pizza was excellent , cheesy how I like it .... & the chicken cutlet was perfectly breaded to my liking. Now that I know they make the chicken cutlets like this I'll be back very often ! The broccoli rabe was also delicious but my favorite was the sauce !!!!! The sauce was rated 10/10 tomato sauce and I'm a very picking Italian ha ha ha !!!! I enjoyed my dinner thank you to the chef and I'll be back soon to order from you guys more often.

Yelp
Okay where do I start... first of all I arrived here after they closed and they were nice enough to accommodate me by making me an entire pie because I complained about how hungry I was. Some of their family was there hanging out past closing and they all welcomed me and my friend in and made us feel at home - We later joked that this was actually the best part of our night (pretty true though). They gave us a beer and chatted us up while we waited for the pizza to be done. After the pizza was done we hung out for an additional 20 minutes and they were by no means rushing us out of there. All that said the pizza was AMAZING. I went in with the intention of only having one slice and 20 minutes later I had four. I couldn't be stopped. The ingredients were fresh and the dough was cooked perfectly. The sauce tasted great and there was a very generous supply of cheese on top. I come from Long Island which is an area with great pizza and I have had a hard time finding similar pizza since moving to Queens and this is definitely one of the best pieces of pizza I have ever had. I know they have multiple locations which I am looking forward to checking out but I definitely recommend stopping into one of them for some quality Italian food. Based on the quality of their pizza and their spectacular service, I trust anything I order at the restaurant will be equally as delicious!! Thanks again Casanova :)

Yelp
Wonderful laid back place in Greenpoint Brooklyn on McGuiness Boulevard, the food is amazing, try the Grandma slice or one of their specialty slices on display, besides pizza they have so many amazing Italian and American dishes to choose from, try the Veal Bolognese with a side of Penny Ala Vodka,my favorite dish, for lunch I reccomend the Philly Cheese Steak on Garlic Bread, chicken parm ala vodka is another favorite,if you like seafood get the salmon oreganato, for an appetizer try the seafood salad fried calamari or some nice baked clams, the staff from the chefs to the owner all know your name and make you feel comfortable and welcome every time, they have a main dining area plus a more intimate private dining room as well as a nice little bar to watch the games, recently moved out of the area and I already miss it

Mary J.

Yelp
The pizza is good would order again Chicken parmigiana hero is pretty good too could use a little more sauce

Anthony A.

Yelp
They a great place to sit down or order out in greenpoint. Great customer service too

Michelle S.

Yelp
I come here when I'm craving that home cooked Italian food. I usually order the chicken parm with pasta and the pasta fazole soup .. tastes just how I remember it from when I was little. They have a kids menu and has big table seating in the back for family gatherings. The staff are really welcoming and sometimes come to join for a conversation giving you that family vibe

Justin W.

Yelp
Great Cesar. Sold pepperoni. Great chicken Parm. Sold service. Reasonable prices. Been around forever in the neighborhood.

Jennifer E.

Yelp
I live one block away from this place. I have tried different dishes from here and they never disappoint, always fresh and taste very good. I have never had a bad experience and appreciate their tasty food!

Jeffrey M.

Yelp
Fans of Yelp this Restaurant is totally under rated cause it is a Pizzeria with a restaurant. Oh Contraire, the sauce taste just like my Aunt Stella's that has been passed down now for four generations via Sicily! The Garlic Knots melted in my Garlic filled mouth and unleashed taste buds I did not know I had. It also brought tears to my eyes when I remembered my Uncle Tito's back in the day. The Eggplant Rollatini was masterful the Ricotta cheese did not overpower the sweet taste of the Fresh Eggplant. I could go On and On, but you guys and gals need to head over there Right Now. On a Scale of 1-10 , I give Casanova's a 25!! Giovanni Middlimun

Anne P.

Yelp
What can I say...other than been here 100 times never a problem. Everything always delicious and fresh, and always served by Segundo!

Norma R.

Yelp
I happened to be at a block party where there was no food being served, a friend mentioned she eaten here before so we should order!! I'll say that besides the food being piping hot, and being delivered in less time then they stated it would, was a HUGE plus for a hungry crowd. All I can say for my individual order was I've never had a more delicious chicken roll. It was soft and perfectly crunchy; not over done at all. Where you just know it sat under a heat lamp or waiting to be reheated and then ordered. It was so fresh and the chicken strips in it so tender & the sauce they gave was perrfectly warmed. Ooo & let me not forgot the penne a la vodka...I wish I would've taken pics but sometimes there's just no time!! We're all foodies so we said next time we're in the neighborhood we have to go and sit down to eat.

Mark K.

Yelp
Our usual pizzeria was closed, so we gave this place a try. Oh my... NEVER AGAIN! Absolutely every ingredient used was flavorless and stomach-turning: the sauce, the dough, the mushrooms, the cheese and ... (oh, I'm going to retch) the sausage. Even after trying to warm it up in the oven, the results remained charmless. The wife and I ate one piece each, and threw the rest away. Save your money

Stella J.

Yelp
Excellent service but poor quality food. Mediocre pizza, terrible cheaply-tasting cream pasta, mediocre Caesar salad, not-so fresh mussels were our experience tonight.

Ruth F.

Yelp
My seafood meal came with fake crabmeat I was totally disgusted ! Also they only gave me a half of a lobster shrimp was really small I was very disappointed in the meal

Bartholomew L.

Yelp
The perfect choice if you like lousy food and rude service. We came here with low expectations and of which not low enough. Go here if you need to reset your standards. Everything will feel gourmet after this one! You MUST try the alfredo pasta ( :

Eliza M.

Yelp
This is the WORST service I've ever received, waiter had to be called to our table to order 7 times. Not only did it take him forever but we have been here for an hour and 23 minutes and have yet to get the water we asked for when we first arrived and also got up from the table to ask for. Not only is the service terrible but the waiter is rude. I will never return to this restaurant.

Gregory C.

Yelp
Amazing food amazing service extremely friendly staff met the owner also a very nice man i would recommend this restaurant bar to anyone of any ages food is also very reasonable

Ilana H.

Yelp
I live very close to this place and they have been an invaluable asset since I moved to GP! I feel very closely tied to them, and their affordable, tasty pizza had made dinner time for my family easier. I'm grateful to have them in the neighborhood!

Chazz N.

Yelp
Terrible place my Father used to go here years ago and I remember him raving about the tripe well my friend loves tripe so we went turns out they had no tripe so we had two mozzarella tomato and peppers with prosciutto the prosciutto was frozen the slices were still frozen on our plates then it got worse we both ordered veal cutlet parm which was definitely pork cutlets and they were probably worst I have ever had do yourself a favor stay far away from this place total dump disgusting

Billings C.

Yelp
Lived in Greenpoint for 14 years. Moving this month. Also, just had Casanova pizza this month. It's a great pie. I'm really kicking myself for not finding out about this place sooner. Geez.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Pizza sucks! But the Italian food is on par! Chicken Parm awsome. Veal awsome. Spaghetti and Meatballs awsome. Fried Calamari well used to be awsome but they must have changed the brand they use its was chewy and gross! Fishy tasting too. Service is very good. Love this place eat here often but please but better calarmari! Please!

Chris P.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem and deserves more love on this site. The grandma pie was excellent!

Noah K.

Yelp
GREAT food, service is "eh." Delivery is a bit annoying, they can never hear you and it tends to be a bit slow. But food is AWESOME!

Aimee A.

Yelp
This place is alright - nothing special. It's your average Italian joint, but the food is plentiful and flavorful and the prices are good. I had the ravioli and it was HUGE. You get your money's worth, that's for sure. They deliver too, and it's quick.

Paul J.

Yelp
Kinda disappointed my last time here. My family and I used to come for the fried calamari for years. I always raved that it was the best around anywhere! Well a few weeks ago I was in the mood for some so I made the trek into Brooklyn. The waiter is always friendly and remembers us for years coming in for dinner. He always gives great service and is very attentive. The woman waitress is pretty much the opposite. She is unaware of what the fried calamari dinner includes and kept questioning me when I said it always included a side bowl of sauce and pasta. I also like my fried calamari well done and crisp, she ignored my request. She also never returned for drink refills or ask how our meal was. The meal arrives and the portion is a nice big plate of calamari as always. Just the breading is different then it used to be and it seemed as if the calamari was sitting around for a while and reheated which made it very dried out and chewy. I was very disappointed with the meal that I came out to Brooklyn exclusively for. The sauce was good for dipping and I used all of it to make the meal somewhat enjoyable. The pasta was over cooked and fell apart in the bowl. I was really let down by my dinner. A few years ago I would have given this place a 4-5 star review because of how great the fried calamari is, but not now. Perhaps I'll give the place one more try months from now in hopes they go back to their old recipes and request the informative attentive waiter to serve us instead of the waitress who couldn't be bothered. The other food seems decent but I come out here for the calamari only. Atmosphere in the back room is nice just the temperature is all over the place. You feel warm, then it cools off for a while until the heat comes back on which makes you warm for a few minutes then back to cold when it turns off. The front is nice and inviting just drafty and cold in the winter. You'll end up eating with your jacket on. I'll give it one final try in the future just for old times sake before I never return again. The price was decent for the size of the portions and I left a decent tip as always even though the service was sub-par.

Roberto A.

Yelp
Tripe, tripe, tripe! I love tripe. It's not very common for restaurants to include tripe on the menu. Even Mexican restaurants that offer Menudo/ Pozole never make it with tripe, using chicken or pork, which are easier to cook, but not as delicious. All of the food I've tried there has been good, but the tripe is incredible. The front houses the pizza ovens and some cafeteria style seating, while the back has a more formal dining room. The location is a bit difficult to access by public transportation and there is not much else around there to visit. If you know of other places that serve tripe, please let me know.

Jaci H.

Yelp
I always wanted to try this place, it looks like a really cute neighborhood pizzaria with an attached restaurant. My husband and I went one night for dinner. It wasn't busy, but there were a few seniors eating dinner and a family as well as a couple who looked like regulars. It took ages for the server to get our drinks - seems like they were a little disorganized as to who was supposed to be serving us. We ordered the Mozzarella Caprese to start, which was really gross. The cheese was really old and flavorless. The tomatoes didn't taste good either. The whole dish came with a few scrawny leaves of basil. SO not worth eating let alone the ridiculous $9 price tag associated with it. As for dinner, we shared the Chicken Francese which wasn't great either. The sauce was kind of slimy and lacked a good butter/lemon/wine flavor that should have been really distinct for this dish. I have no idea what was going on w/ this dish. It reminded me of take out chinese food to tell you the truth. I make this dish at home and its not that hard. I'm pissed I spent $15 on something I can rock in my own kitchen. Needless to say this was not a good meal and I will never return. The fact that they have regulars astounds me. Either they love crappy food or they just don't know better.

Ryan M.

Yelp
This place was ridiculous. I was sat in a pizza joint front room, but ordered off a dinner-priced menu. The food was about the quality I'd get from a freezer over at Key Foods. Whatever ravioli and bland boring tomato sauce. My plate was messy and sauce was dripping off of it. My date's food was just covered in bland supermarket mozzarella. Fine. so so Italian in Brooklyn isn't a crime, just a surprise (literally dozens of better options within a 5 minute walk). The reason for the single star is that they wouldn't honor their happy hour beer price. Even though it was hanging on a banner outside the door. Even though it was listed on a big sign at the hostess stand. Even though we literally pointed at these two things. absolutely not.

Steve B.

Yelp
My favorite delivery pizza place, perfect for my apartment right over the bridge in Long Island City! It's NYC, and there should be good pizza nearby. Alas, in Long Island City, there isn't. But, right over the bridge into Greenpoint, we have Casanova's. And Casanova has the amazing, the delicious, the huge Grandma's Pie. I've never gotten anything else from them other than the Grandma's Pie, but it is delicioso. Yummy. Tasty. Very good. We also get the garlic knots too, because we love the garlic knots. Whoever is making them has widely variable styles, but in general they are good and cheap and filling. Just sometimes without enough garlic. Delivery to Jackson and 50th in LIC is about 45min-1hour, which isn't bad in my book. And with very good food and reasonable prices, that's a 4-star winner for me. If you're in radius, definitely give Casanova a shot!

Bill H.

Yelp
Very nice neighborhood corner place with some really good food. The dining room is particularly pretty & roomy. Pasta fagioli soup is fantastic; one of the best I've tasted. Wait staff is friendly & the service is good. I would highly recommend it for anyone who loves Italian food. The sauce is good & dishes well made.

Nick C.

Yelp
I have a love/hate relationship with Casanova. I just moved here 3 months ago and it's so close to my apartment. The dining room is so cheesy - definitely hasn't been updated since the late 80s. HOWEVER, the food is solid. The chicken parmigiana is amazing, the sauce is the best part. Portions are huge. The chicken roll or sausage and pepper rolls are good, but not made fresh, which is a deterrant. We asked if they were sitting out and the guy said yes but he made us one fresh anyways which was nice. I once got the calamari and it had a funky taste to it; not very fresh. The pizza is pretty good. The one major downfall is that the service is not friendly. Everytime I go there, they act like it bothers them to take your order. They are not personable. However, one of the waiters are really. Overall, I would recommend this for a lunch or inexpensive dinner. The food will not disappoint you and this place has been around for so long for a reason.

Lindsay H.

Yelp
Went here the other week with my family and cannot get over how good the pizza was... I just keep talking about it! The cheese was so fresh. The calamari was delicious. Service was fantastic, no complaints. Our waiter knew all of the customers... you know a place is good when there's a bunch of regulars. Also, their cappuccino was the best I've ever had. Need to get back there soon.

Melissa J.

Yelp
Highly underrated. Try the pasta e fagioli soup, brick oven pizza, grandma pizza, escarole, and godfather hero. You will be pleased.

Lily B.

Yelp
The pizza was very well seasoned and I like the thin crust. Was very pleased I got a pizza slice that was warmed up caused the bottom to burn a little only reason I'm not giving a 5. But, my boyfriend loved his chicken salad and the bathroom is painted with cute decorations. And awesome music!!!

M. C.

Yelp
Had a bad lunch here. Bummed out. Wanted to like the place...I work in the area and it's the nearest restaurant. Thought it would be the red sauce craving place. Anyway, had an over-fried veal milanese hero with broccoli rabe. Just one small, ultra-thin, over-fried cutlet. No garlic. No cheese. No salt. No pepper. No taste whatsoever. $11 after tip and I left hungry. I was going to order pizza, which looked good (even though it was cold-looking), and sorry I didn't. The server was lovely, though.

Kate M.

Yelp
The Grandma pie is very good as others noted-- the third star is for that. The regular pies are kind of greasy and cheesy. Sauce and crust don't stand out. We order pizza from time to time, nevertheless. The pasta, chicken and salad dishes are overpriced in my opinion and not the best quality. If you want sort-of-greasy, sort-of-bland red sauce experience, you will be fine. You won't get sick, and they're nice people, which is more than you can say of a lot of joints! This is based just on delivery or pickup, but having picked up, I don't think I'd want to pay to sit in the shop itself. It's not that comfortable or nice.

Trixie V.

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was a teen, and thats a long time! The food and service are wonderful. I especially like their Grandma pizza and I am pleased that they offer whole wheat pasta. I order that with broccoli, shrimp, oil and garlic. They are family owned and very friendly, they truly make you feel like you are number one! Their garlic knots are by far the best I ever had. They also have well made cocktails, as well as wine and beer. I also had deliveries from them a number of times, and it was quick and piping hot. The back space is very nice, and can host parties.

Andrzrej K.

Yelp
I had a silce of this pie before I went out in the city- little did I know when I was gettin down at Tonic I would be rushing to get down to the handicap bathroom post haste around 2 AM. The regular slice was really really bad- I didnt even finish it- the cheese was gross, the bottom was burnt and that enough to make even a edible sauce tast like Dominos cheesy bread marinara sauce. The garlic knots were pretty good, but gave me agita all night. while I was eating half of this slice, I didnt realize I would be swaping love handles for toylet handels in just a few hours- it was bad

David K.

Yelp
Had a delivery order, which was prompt and well packaged. that was the only good part. While i remember their pizza being decent, their pasta dishes are simply gross. I dont think anything is actually "made" there. it tastes like ragu, frozen ravioli, and microwaved reheated meats. The ravioli i ordered were literally stuck together as they were literally frozen and defrosted. gross. My finaces vodka sauce was ragu and cream with NO FLAVOR. gross. Ive ordered from here a few times and its worse every time. we threw the menu out as we will NEVER order from here again.

Joe M.

Yelp
My mom had her 80th birthday here at Casanova, this was my first visit and I was not disappointed the service and food was really good. I had their chicken cacciatore which was very good and tasty. Nice to have parking available which is always hard to find in Brooklyn.

Mike T.

Yelp
The grandma pizza is amazing here! Very arguably my favorite pizza in NYC. I also like that no matter when im in there, they ALWAYS have soccer on the TVs...Something the typical American doesn't get to see too much. Get the Grandma and order a fresh pie if possible.
