I was in Kansas City last week and looked up Italian restaurants nearby. Cascone’s had a 4.6-star rating with more than 3,400 reviews, so I expected a great experience. Unfortunately, my group and I left very disappointed.
The service was poor. Our server was not friendly, barely interacted with us, and set the plates down abruptly as if she did not want to be there.
There were four of us in the party. Three of us ordered the Caesar salad to start, and it was very underwhelming. It reminded me of something you might find at a buffet salad bar. The bread was also disappointing. It was average at best, and for the first time I can remember at an Italian restaurant, no one in our group finished it or asked for more. That alone says a lot.
For the entrées, my mother-in-law ordered the stuffed mushroom caps, which came in a thick cream sauce that was not appetizing. My friend ordered the lasagna, which was just okay and probably the best dish at the table, though not memorable. My husband and I both ordered the Chicken Limonata Elaina, and we agreed it was not good. I have had better dishes at Olive Garden and other chain restaurants.
Overall, we left disappointed with the entire experience. I am genuinely surprised by the high ratings. Either we caught the restaurant on a very off night, or Kansas City does not have many strong Italian options.
