City Park Re-Opens Bidding Over Beignet Stand Lease - Eater New Orleans

"Morning Call has been operating out of the space in the Casino Building of City Park since 2012. It won the highest bid in the recent bidding process but was disqualified due to missing a mandatory meeting. Morning Call filed suit against City Park, leading to the nullification of the lease awarded to Cafe du Monde. Stakes are high as Morning Call closed its other remaining location just before the bidding process, and if it loses this location, it will have no remaining venues." - Stephanie Carter

Still No Word on Fate of Morning Call in City Park - Eater New Orleans

"Morning Call, a beignet restaurant, has been in a legal battle with City Park over the lease of its Casino Building location. The restaurant claims the bidding process was unfair and is awaiting a court decision on whether it can remain in its current spot." - Alison Baitz

Morning Call Gets To Stay in City Park —For Now | Eater New Orleans

"In City Park’s Casino Building, I was relieved to learn that the iconic beignet stand Morning Call — which has been serving beignets, coffee, and snacks there since 2012 — can remain while its lawsuit with the park plays out in court. Although Morning Call was supposed to move out by July 21 after the park opened the lease to bids in May, city officials decided it can stay; Morning Call had submitted the highest bid for the 10-year lease but the park awarded the lease to the second-highest bidder, Cafe du Monde, after Morning Call missed a mandatory meeting. Claiming the park acted wrongly, Morning Call filed a lawsuit and asked a judge to let it stay until the dispute is resolved; the judge didn’t have to intervene because park officials allowed the stand to remain. Losing this City Park location would have been a big blow — Morning Call closed its Metairie location at the end of April, making the City Park stand the last location for the 148-year-old beignet stand — and the owners say they will open another location elsewhere whether or not they win back the lease." - Stephanie Carter

I cannot go into the casino but I went to the surroundings of the grassy looking park with the beautiful trees overlooking lake Pontchartrain which was very nice. They had a festival there and I enjoyed it. A lot of music, food, drink. Very friendly and very safe. I saw a police all over the place and it made you have a safe feeling that everything was under control and the people are having a great time. Is a good place just to go and relax or do little fishing at the lake. They have plenty of picnic tables areas to go

Unexpected gem in the city park. Stopped in for a beignet and a/c. Super cute and charming with a great location for photos to be taken. If you are in town and have the time you should go here and to the park

The lovely old Timken Center building is a perfect location for the Cafe’ du Monde restaurant that occupies most of the space downstairs. There are convenient and clean restrooms, a small gift shop and ample parking. One side is open to the outside while the other is air conditioned, so it’s great for any weather. Because of the Spanish styling it was called a casino or cantina.

It was such a lovely quiet place to visit. Enjoyed the various kind of birds, some even posing for you (but be ready to give them a tip 😉).

The old Casino building in City Park is a must visit every time I go home to New Orleans. Enjoy New Orleans style beignets while seated at an outside table. Enjoy a little local jazz. When you're done, move on over to the bayou and feed the ducks and birds and turtles. Be sure and bring along a loaf of stale bread. Walk among the ancient oaks and soak in all the New Orleans vibes. City Park is a beautiful place. Been going there since I was a little girl with my grandma. Now I take my grandchildren there.

I don’t know about the casino, but this location shows up as city park in New Orleans. With that said, city park is great! You’ve got Café Du’Monde (without all the tourists of the Jackson square location), an absolutely enthralling sculpture garden, the New Orleans Museum of art, and so much more as you explore around the park! It’s a great place to start your New Orleans day with a Café Olé and bignets with no waiting! Usually some live music 🎶
