LOVE this place! Can’t believe they finally opened a store here in midtown that has actual fresh groceries and anything you might need. They’ve thought of everything. They don’t try to rip you off like every other bodega and Whole Foods, the prices are completely reasonable. And they’ve stocked so many Detroit based products here!! Nothing better than being able to just walk down the street to grab some basic necessities rather than drive all the way to Dearborn when I run out of milk. Or drop by in the morning for a cup of hot Great Lakes coffee! Not to mention how friendly the staff is, born and raised in Detroit as well and investing back into the city. Support small businesses! I will definitely be a regular customer!

Google
Just got back from a trip here for some snacks, on July 4th. If you go here, check the dates on everything- they are selling very out of date food with mold. I made that mistake and this is what I find- super disappointed. Shouldn’t have to check at a market if I’m going to be poisoned or not. Waste of money imo

Google
Need it in a pinch? This place has it. Reasonable hours and prices. Always kind staff, very clean.

Guy at the counter threatened to call the police on me and kicked me out because I was shopping w/ a reusable bag. Did I miss something? I didn't see a sign prohibiting shopping w/ our own bags . All I grabbed was two pounds of white rice and a singular bottle of spices. Probabably didn't help that I'm black. That was an experience!

Google
Ridiculous prices - a pack of three ho-ho's (that expires in May 2025, it is currently April 2025) costs $2.79

Google
Great store and very convenient location. Definitely a neighborhood gem. Justice for Monty!!✊ Gone but not forgotten...You are missed. Haters gonna hate unfortunately..😒

Google
Pretty good store overall and very convenient. The only reason they get 1 star is because the young college girl that works on the weekend is very rude and disrespectful along with some young guy that didn’t work there but was in there standing around and threatening me… as a customer that was in there to spend my money, I had to ask multiple times for my products wich was located behind the counter while she was just being absolutely rude and as I was walking out her and the guy she was with was getting very aggressive while threatening me and yelling curse words in front of customers. Mind you getting high at work is prohibited at any job but she is always smoking a weed pen when I go in there! Don’t waste your time or money here at this store just to be disrespected by the employee.

Google
threatened to call the police on my sister who was using a reusable bag to shop, and kicked her out. awful management. i would not shop here at all! very rude and disrespectful of them.

Yelp
This little market has everything it's perfect. If you want to run in and grab a quick drink or something to eat and snack on. They have a variety of things. I even found the Clearly Canadian water that used to be very prevalent everywhere. They have so many things available and it's a real treat in the city. I stop in every so often to get different things and the parking lot is always clean and well taken care of as well. Staff are friendly and keep the line moving, which is just what you need in a convenient store and market of this size. Great job, everyone!

Yelp
I love this market. Even though I don't live nearby, if I'm anywhere in the area, I usually seeing by to pick up my favorite wine in a can and to see if they have anything else interesting. Lots of specially items and normal convience things. Masks required during COVID and partons comply. The cashiers are behind plexiglass.
google avatar

Yelp
Little hometown market with a decent selection. Prices are hit or miss...some things are very fairly priced and others are definitely priced for convenience. They to have their own parking lot which is nice plus street parking out front. There is a Mexican restaurant in the back that I have not tried yet but have heard good reviews.

Yelp
Simply incredible. After picking g my son up from Old Main WSU, we drove to Marcus Market for tacos. If you enjoy simple street tacos with a choice of many proteins, this is your place. Grilled to perfection onions, meats loaded with taste, real cheese and cilantro give your taste buds a treat. The store is friendly, clean and service is fast. A worthwhile trip.

Yelp
This is a beautiful small town looking market in midtown Detroit has everything you could possibly need including a restaurant, serving delicious Mexican food and a smoothie place that has really really good smoothies I've never shopped here but one time I was in the area for work and saw that this market was open. They were very busy and I'm glad that I went in because I've got an apple fritter smoothie and it's the one of the best I've ever had all the staff was friendly and helpful

Yelp
It is with great pleasure that I bequeath unto Marcus's Fine Food Emporium my very first Yelp 5-star rating. They stay open late, have all kinds of junk food, as well as more healthy options, the aisle of housewares, ball caps, skullies, cell phone rechargers, machine cappuccino, and lots more corner-store type stuff. Now they even have pizza. Marcus is moving up in the world. Plus, they're super friendly. Kareem, Adrian, Calvin, Jacob and Bill are all good guys. (You probably only knew Kareem and Adrian's names, if that, didn't you?) Marcus also serves as my bank. If only I had a bridge card, and if only I could give Marcus six stars.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place. I'm local so this is my go to place when I need to pick up a few things or liquor. They have two food vendors in the back that sell quality food. If you live in Midtown check this place out.

Yelp
I have to thank Marcus Market for being such a staple part of Midtown living. I always feel safe coming here late at night. The nice man who stocks the shelves has helped me bring cases of water and cat litter to my apartment with his dolly when I was unable to carry it by myself. I have always loved the food options in the back and the newest addition of El Taco Veloz is perfect. Their prices tend to run a little higher than your average grocery store but it's well worth it if you live within walking distance and don't want to drive somewhere and lose your parking spot.
google avatar

Poonam S.

Yelp
Convenient place to get liquor or basic groceries. Nothing fancy inside. Lots of parking available at the entrance.

Tayma T.

Yelp
The owners are so friendly...gosh they will go over and beyond for you! Thank you for keeping the store super clean and stocked up!
google avatar

Yelp
I have not gone into Marcus Market since April, when I realized they had been illegally charging me 6% sales tax on food purchases. They are crooks.
google avatar

Anthony E.

Yelp
Nice market made better with both a taco & juice bar at the back. The food is nicely priced & delicious. If it's a carry out, they do a good job of packaging up the food wrapped & covered foil to keep it warm. I've only tried taco's, rice & beans. I will be back.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times and the service has always been splendid. Honestly, some of the nicest workers ever have been those who work in Midtown or anywhere downtown, really. Marcus Market is located close to Wayne State's campus for any type of snack, drink, or alcohol beverage purchase you made need. Alley Taco's is located in the back if you want to fill up on taco goodness as well! Marcus Market stocks some pretty different options so I recommend giving all the aisles a look! I came in today after a rough day. Only wanted a pop and some chocolate to get me through my job home. Turns out I ended up leaving my phone and keys in my car. Being alone in Detroit without your phone isn't exactly an ideal situation for anyone but the owner and employee working were honestly outstanding! Not only did they let me use their cell phone and business phone, they also recommended ways for me to solve the situation. Before I knew it, Wayne State Police was on the lot helping to unlock my car! I am incredibly thankful for their kindness!

Yelp
So thankful I stumbled upon this Market when visiting Midtown. MM is a convenient store that sets the bar up there! Everything is clean, organized, and stocked. The staff that works there are helpful and welcoming. The beer and wine selection and presentation are fantastic, along with their in-house Juice/Smoothie Joint and El Taco Veloz shop.
google avatar

Christina R.

Yelp
I loveeeee the taco place in the back! Taco Tuesday is $1.50 tacos! There's a really handsome guy who works at the market part and he's really nice and helpful. It's nice to have someone who smiles and makes you feel welcomed when your shopping, so I go there for that. You're not gonna find bougie stuff in here, it's a campus bodega! And prices are a bit expensive, but the service is great and for these kinds of spots, that matters most for me.

Yelp
Marcus Market is a magical place to be. Such a wide array of spirits, the selection you must see. Each one so easy to chug. Perfect to conceal in an ugly mug. Walking into Marcus Market is a bit of a chore. Try so hard to push, but you must pull the first door. The second is a piece of plywood, confusing it may seem. But push hard on that bitch and meet the Marcus team. In the morning you'll see Kareem, very quiet and stoic. He's not polite to women, but in the Middle East he was heroic. Next you'll meet Ivan, always fiending for a rail. Used to party hard but that life he had to curtail. Then there's Adrian who will give away your money. And if you work at Jet's he'll think it's oh so funny. Next you'll see Ben who's really super chill. Hard to get a read, but he seems full of good will. Then my homie Charlie, he uses a fake name. But living in this whack country, I don't have him to blame. These are the main faces at the Marcus store. So stop on by some time, these peeps you will adore.

Yelp
These Tacos are good. We were visiting from California and were just a little hungry at around 7 or 8pm. We had the chicken, beef and shrimp tacos. This were very authentic. I was afraid they were going to be slathered with shredded cheese as I have seen done in many taco places that are outside of California. This were simple, well-seasoned and delicious. The green salsa had just the right amount of kick. The tortillas had a nice almost homemade look to them. Highly recommend these tacos. Clearly, the cook knows what he's doing.
google avatar

Barani M.

Yelp
Tried the tacos multiple times. The meat could use a bit more flavor and moisture. The burritos are much better and are really flavorful. The smoothie/juice shop next door is amazing.

Yelp
Today was my first time here and it was a pleasant one. The store was clean and very well stocked. As far as parking, there were no spots so we had to wait until someone left. There is no handicap parking spots either. They need to add two handicap parking spots. That didn't keep us from going inside. I ordered a tutti fruiti with oranges and honey added. It was pretty good. Also I ordered a chicken quesadilla with rice and beans. My only complaint is the rice wasn't completely cooked. I came across some hard pieces of rice. Other then that, everything else was cool.

Yelp
Formerly called Parker Foods, Marcus Market is a neighborhood food market and liquor store. They have the usual range of beer/wine/liquor and some pantry basics. Although the place is a bit dingy, I'm frequently surprised by some of the items they stock - soy milk? amy's organics? - these organic/vegetarian options are a big step up from the big aisle of deadstock vintage socks, trapper keepers, mousetraps, greeting cards, etc. that Parker Foods used to feature (does it count as deadstock if it has just been sitting on the shelves since the 70s?). Anyway, this is not a destination, but darn handy if you run out of something or desperately need a soda pop. Oh and they also have an impressive selection of liquor available in the "double-shot" size.
google avatar

Yelp
This place got best store in Detroit? You can't be serious. What about Honey Bee? That's infinitely cleaner and soooo much less sketchy? This store is in my 'hood. It's OK. You *DO* have panhandlers bugging you for spare change right outside the store. Every single time. Just to be clear, there's no one inside bugging you. But this is how it is everywhere. The beer selection is "meh". They have Hoegaarden but no Negro Modelo. Need Bud? They've got Bud. You know, crap beer that every college student drinks (except me, because life is too short to drink poopy beer). V says that this place really knows its patrons, University Towers is just down the street -- so they sell onions, carrots and ginger. It's not fresh (doesn't have to be!), but it's there. This store could make a killing if they decided to get rid of all of their deadstock that Emily L mentioned and replaced it with an awesome beer selection and become a Merchant's of Detroit. Unfortunately, it's Detroit, and knowing its patrons well that means malt liquor and terrible beer. I come here when I need beer and MCBW is closed, Merchant's is closed and I'm too lazy to drive to Meijer. Other than that? There's so many better places. It serves it's purpose.

Yelp
This is how party stores should be. Pretty good selection for beer wine & liquor. Good snack selection. They have the last minute items you forgot to grab at the larger grocery store. If you dont see something you want, just ask! Adrian & Kareem are open to ways to expand their inventory. If they run out of something, just let 'em know. They sell Almond, coconut, soy milk. They have high-pulp (and no-pulp) OJ. They have a steeeeep supply of Jameson. Stocked with ice, kegs, chips, canned goods, they even carry some produce. New in 2011 is a pizza bar in the back, you can get slices or order a pie for yourself. I got the mac and cheese once, and it was creamy and yummy! They wont have everything you need, but they are great for a local party store. BIKES::: lock up at the bike rack!

Yelp
A neighborhood staple since opened in the 1950's. This is your former 50's supermarket recreated as an enhanced college neighborhood market; complete with a liquor store and lottery machine. Nothing Fancy. Not much in the way of veggies; but they have canned goods, bread, frozen meals and even a wide selection of ice creams and toffuti. Good lighted parking in their own lot on the corner of prentis and second ave. that makes it convenient to pick up a fast item or get junkfood near wsu. it's also right across the street from the bronx bar. No hot foods Fairly good Water, Wine and Beer selection; adequate Liquor selection and loads of snacks, sodas and juices from the top makers incl haagen daz and jones sodas. they also stock lays experimental flavors of snacks like habanero doritos. a good choice for fast in and outs. These are the Downsides to this store : this store refuses to accept a credit card for any amount less than $10.00 which is a state violation and they will tell you call the state they don' t care. They also refuse to honor the same price on hot and cold pop. heaven forbid they have only two and you need both. be prepared to pay an extra .25 at least for the cold bottle. crazy.. they charge what they want for Faygo 2l if it's unmarked. be aware of that if you buy one because they do not put a price sticker on it. they may charge you up to 1.50 for a 2l Faygo if it's not marked .99 by Faygo. they know it's wrong but they could care less what you think. the guys who work the registers are behind bullet proof glass like they are terrified of their customers. Honestly that makes me wonder how they get in and out of the store ? sad impression to give to your customers; who live in the neighborhood. especially since most of the customers are young white kids who live in the wsu owned properties across from and around them. btw this store has NEVER Been Robbed according to the former owners Bernard and Cheryl who were there for over 30 years. so the bullet proof glass is the new owners install, sadly. this place is JUST OK - for a corner store. not my first choice ever.
google avatar

Peggah G.

Yelp
When I go to a corner market or liquor store, I don't expect to find the cheapest items. While in midtown for Dally in the Alley, I came to Marcus Market to find a hard cider. They didn't have any single bottles available, but they did have a good assortment of single bottle beer available. They also had different brands of hard cider available! I ended up picking up the Stella Artois Cidre 4 pack for $6.99 which was cheaper than what it was at my local Meijer!

Yelp
The security window is a fact of life for liquor stores in the Cass Corridor. In Marcus Market though, usually some time between noon and five in the evening, the generally jovial employees will gather enough balls or lose enough common sense to pull the window back and greet their customers face to face. In this fast paced part of town all any of us can expect or even hope for is a second spent face to face with another human being. And to some in the area, the northeast corner of Prentis and Second is more home than market, which is exactly what the founder of Marcus hoped for when he first erected these walls. The $16.99 thirty pack of PBR is brilliantly priced. Even with the three dollar deposit, there is still a cent left over from your twenty to give the bum outside the change you'd promised him on your way in. Speaking of which, where are the bums? I've encountered a fair number of hustlers while making the walk from the adjacent Bronx Bar to Marcus at the end of the night, hoping for something to go home with, but no flat out, broken down, 'give me a dollar to pass without guilt' panhandler. These late night runs leave me with the only truly bad taste in my mouth that Marcus Market leaves. It is unconscionable for a university liquor store to close before the state's mandatory last call. I even frown upon places that take "two a.m." too literally. When so many hard working college kids and neighborhood rummies are counting on you in order to avoid walking the extra three blocks to University Liquor, by God you do everything you can to keep them drunk. Also, there is not a myriad of flavors behind the counter to wrap around one's weed, but this is a neighborhood liquor store. Those searching for flavors any more exotic than grape will have to stroll a few blocks in any directions. Marcus Market has all the flare in architecture of a Minoru Yamasaki. The one ply toilet paper flows into the generic kitty litter, into a rainbow of doo rags that create an eye pleasing installation that fascinates and confuses simultaneously while emanating the authority of true authenticity. On clear days at the beginning of Spring you can walk out of the market, look up, and see the original Marcus smiling down on you from Heaven. Parking is adequate. No solicitations. Join me next time when I infiltrate University Liquor as a mere stockboy in my attempt expose the billion dollar a year industry that is destroying countless lives in the United States and around the world; unauthorized Obama and Scarface merchandise.

Yelp
So, I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of MI, 6 hours away from Detroit. Marcus Market, to my 10 year old self, appears to be exactly what I was taught to fear of Detroit and other urban areas. It is not inviting from the outside and the parking lot advertises jailing for loitering. Once you get inside, you realize this place has more than you could have imagined. The beer selection runs the gamut from PBR, Strohs, and the like to Dog Fish Head, Victory, and a very nice selection of MI microbrews. There are tons of snack selections, and a deli in the rear of the store with lots of hot foods. Lots of supplies for a hangover killing breakfast are there as well. They have produce such as onions and peppers that looks good too. The glassed-in employees could still put a little terror into you as you walk in, but the employees have always been helpful and polite to me. So, if you live in Midtown and need to get some beer and snacks for the night and some breakfast food for the morning, Marcus Market has you covered. Don't be afraid, just be a smart Detroiter and don't leave shit in your car and keep your wits about you.

Yelp
I love Marcus. From my Guinness in a can to my Bali Hai cloves, Marcus has me covered. Their convenient location in the heart of Sesame Street makes them a natural gathering place. I love Adrian and the owner, who always calls me beautiful. My favorite thing about Marcus, and what makes it stand out is the FOOD. The guy in the back makes his own delicious pizza sauce, and offers tons of different hot foods between 5-when he sells out (around 10). Peirogi, Mac and cheese, buffalo wings, lasagna, chicken nuggets, etc etc. Pizza starts up around 4pm (for now, in the summer, it's earlier during the school year), and at 5.99 for a whole pie of meat lover, (1.99 a slice), it's a steal. I hope they get this guy a bigger deep fryer so he can increase his batches of the other hot foods he offers. Thanks Marcus, for always being there! Things to improve: keep short's soft parade in stock all the time, and get mike's harder lemonade back up in there! Oh, and thanks for carrying Newman's Own Virgin Lemonade. And hummus. And cat litter.

Yelp
For a convience store, this place is decent, if a bit dirty. They have somethings that will surprise you, like organic milk, school supplies, and frozen Amy's dinners. Floor always seems to be sticky. ugh.

Zoey C.

Yelp
Best tacos and yummy horchata I can find in the area when I'm craving Mexican food from LA. So simple but so delicious with fresh ingredients and large portions for the price! Great location too since I can walk around the grocery store while waiting for food. Highly recommend
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Right around the corner from where my girlfriend lives is Marcus Market. Being that we enjoy alcohol and also attend parties in the area, this is usually where we go. The selection is pretty decent for a Detroit liquor store. You have your hood beer, your college beer and your "I don't want to drink swill" beer. They also have a decent wine selection and a nice liquor wall that includes some stuff I wouldn't expect downtown. They also have a small selection of grocery/pantry items, as well as frozen pizza and other goods. The frozen pizzas are 2 for 6.99, and are surprisingly good. Definitely made for a good dinner the other night! Overall, probably the best store I've visited in the midtown area. It doesn't feel quite as sketchy as the liquor store over on Third, and the people don't panhandle like I'm used to, so I am happy to say Marcus is my current Midtown choice.

Julian A.

Yelp
Great service! Was greeted as soon as I walked in, great selection of beverages. The taco place in the back called Veloz looked delicious.

Heidi B.

Yelp
Shrimp tacos with the green verse sauce is to DIE for! Im visiting from Texas and so glad I visited the market to get the tacos! I would highly recommend! I got 2 tacos and was full, but wished I got 4 because it was just that good!

Yelp
Welp, Prayers answered: They now have six pack cans of PBR, Stroh's, and Labatt =)
google avatar

JP H.

Yelp
Reasonably good beer and wine selection here, but after nearly a year of living in the neighborhood, it's not my primary destination for those delicacies or any major food items. The interior could use some sprucing up; currently you enter and it feels like it wants to be a warehouse, but it's not. Extremely off-putting cashier's area with a large enclosed window that is sometimes open and sometimes closed. In spite of this, the market clearly does a good business with the growing population of Midtown, and I'm sure it will continue to stick around for awhile.

Yelp
The good people at Marcus Market put up the good fight. They carry American Spirtis, top shelf liquor and an amazing variety of flavored condoms that most people have never heard of. The location probably has a lot to do with my four stars. They are conviently located across the street from the Bronx bar and open just about as late. That is a super plus in my book. Who in their right mind wants to stumble more than a block at last call to dredge up tomorrows bad idea? I used to live across the street and got to know these boys pretty well. Above average hood liqour store with people who know how to handle the crowd appropriately. Cheers Marcus Market....... ps. Do you think you could carry panty roses and yoohoo, it would really make my day. Thankx, love drew.

Yelp
The epicenter of the reinvention of Detroit midtown area as a hippie artsy center for the college scheme invasion. The bricks of this building have seen it all, and that should count for something. Aside from the essentials of a midtown loft party (IPA craft beer, organic snacks, red solo cups, lime, goat cheese, crackers, all at a bargain) this place takes orders. The owners will literally personalize an isle to your desires (I asked for a brand of IPA and goat cheese they didn't carry, they started ordering it just for me) , now that's personalized shopping. I over heard that the owners are heavily invested the local community charities , so your money goes to a good cause.

O K.

Yelp
Best selection of liquors. Coconut beer, wheat beer IPAs - they have it all. The guys and gals who work here are very nice. They flipped this liquor store. Looks great. And amazing ginger beer selections.
google avatar

Justin R.

Yelp
They have a little bit of everything here- Hummus, chips, wine, booze, energy drinks, candy- it makes a great pit stop on the way home from the bar. Never too many crazies lingering around, even for a liquor store in Detroit.
google avatar

Mona L.

Yelp
shockingly good pizza here- for a really great price. I mean, really- you should try it. It's not gourmet- but it's good pizza done right.
google avatar

Ak S.

Yelp
Great deal on chicken, and pizza, also alot of household stuff and drinks and such, and the nicest workers in the deli I have ever met. Great place

Amanda K.

Yelp
this place is just amazing! the energy at Marcus Market is what makes it so amazing too! Not to mention the products they carry, definitely the mini market to go to for pretty much all your last minute needs. And the fact that Karim put a pizza joint in there makes it all the better! :-) SOME DAMN GOOD PIZZA!
google avatar

Grevis J.

Yelp
They got beer on the side, liquor in the front, and a made to order burrito stand in the back.....you cant do too intense of food shopping here, like super market style getting t-bone steaks and such, but you can get most of the things you prob need. Get down w the local market.

Yelp
I was in town for a conference at Wayne State. After a long day, I wanted to grab a 6pack and head back to my hotel(Westin Book). A colleague of mine suggested Marcus Market. One word; bo.de.ga. But, seriously the beer selection was pretty decent, but the guy behind the bulletproof glass was just rude. And I'm from NY...

Vic R.

Yelp
Never disappointed with Marcus Market. Anytime I'm in mid town, I make sure to stop here. It was my college day spot. It's like a mini whole foods w liquor & cigarettes. Hard working staff. Always a pleasant experience. Love Marcus!

Ruth G.

Yelp
I don't recommend paying them for parking during events like Dally in the Alley. They took my $10 and then blocked my car in on Saturday Sept. 8, 2012. The store manager/owner was rude and told me to call 911 if I wanted my car. I couldn't imagine EVER giving this business another penny.
