Easily, my favorite place to swing by for a breakfast burrito after working out. Cassave is an unassuming place tucked away in a strip mall. They have a nice selection of Mexican and El Salvadorean foods like pupusas. Vegetarians have a couple of options to satiate themselves. Their potatoes are incredible, as is their hot salsa. Enjoy the breezy salsa music while you wait for your food. Highly recommended! Parking is an issue though.

Google
I always get the steak and prawn bowl with beans rice about cream and cheese because I'm simple like that which means picky. Prawns are big and seasoned so well. Always so tasty

I recently dined at Cassave Restaurant, a charming hole-in-the-wall Mexican eatery in Emeryville. Despite its small size, it seems to be a popular spot for take-out comfort food. I tried the fish tacos and pupusas. The fish tacos were excellent, with fresh fish and ingredients that really stood out. The pupusas were authentically made, though I would have preferred a bit more stuffing. The zucchini pupusa was particularly flavorful compared to the plain cheese ones. The service was quick, and the owners were extremely friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. The only downside was the lack of spicier sauces, which I didn’t ask for but would have preferred. Overall, I would definitely visit again if I’m in the area.

Google
The food was bland and not edible for $31 do not get the pupusas, I most likely will never eat them again after my experience here. PS stop adding so much cheese to dishes it’s unnecessary. Thanks.

M’s A.

Google
The Mama Jacinta is a great breakfast with two eggs over easy, a cheese pupusa, plantain, rice ‘n beans, and the three sauces (green chili, crema, and red salsa). The folks are friendly and you can call in your order. You can also eat in. The restaurant is on a corner in a tiny strip mall.

Google
They make a pretty good burrito. The ingredients are fresh and good quality. The self-serve salsa bar is off the hook. I love the hot salsas. I have yet to try the enchiladas or other dishes but I will soon.

Kyree S.

Google
A great hole in the wall type of restaurant, good food and good prices Lucked up and found this place on their “taco Thursday” great tacos for the low price of $2, my lady and I enjoyed them. will definitely be back we almost chose somewhere else for dinner but I’m so glad we didn’t

Google
My go-to Mexican restaurant for Emeryville-Oakland border. Folks here are pleasant and the food they serve are delicious. If you want authentic food and authentic people, this is the spot. If you want gentrified Mexican food, head to the Public Market and pay almost twice as much. The dish I uploaded is the Mexico City's tacos.

Yelp
ALL DAY BREAKFAST I'm sure all the food is great but I'm just here for the all day breakfast Mama Jacinta Victoria Maria Eugenia Etc Nice folks. Convenient parking, plenty of comfortable seating, definitely come check it out.

Yelp
Great food and they have their own parking lot in front of the restaurant! I got an order of papusas and they were filling.

Yelp
Visiting oakland from Los Angeles and was looking for a taco place and So i ordered a Carnitas torta and man so many flavors. It was good and Service was fast and easy. I felt like i was home inside there. I reccomend to anybody visiting.

Yelp
Whenever I would ride my scooter passed Cassave Restaurant, I would see one or two people inside eating a plate of Mexican food. In front of the restaurant as well as near the counter they have daily and weekly specials. In Fridays, they have a special on their burritos for $10. For $1.50 more it can be made into a super with cheese, sour cream, and guacamole which is worth it. So that's what I ordered. Super steak burrito: how was it? Ok. It wasn't bad. It wasn't particularly small, but at the same time it wasn't gut busting sized like I usually get for a similar price. The flavors were ok. The meat was ok. Nothing stood out. The employees were all very nice. The food came out fast. So would I come again? Yes, BUT I don't feel a compelling reason to come back at the same time.

Yelp
I ordered delivery from Cassave yesterday for lunch. I had the 2 pupusas plate with rice and beans and it was exquisite. I usually get them with chicken (not here, it was my first time ordering from here) but I decided to try the ones with cheese and beans and I did not miss having meat in them. I ordered 2 more with chicken for my boyfriend and we both ABSOLUTELY loved them! We cannot wait to visit them in person some day. They came with a bunch of delicious onions and fixings. A must try! Pupusas for the win!
google avatar

Joseph Anthony S.

Yelp
Chilaquiles we're a bit too soggy for my taste but I like the eggs, love thegenerous serving of cheese on top, and their red salsa is fairly good. Pupusas have the cheese skirt around some of it too
google avatar

Yelp
Paid $13 for an al pastor burrito and it was mid at best. I've had frozen burritos that tasted better. No offense, I'm just being honest. They're friendly people and the service was great, but I recommend going to Best Coast Burrito - it's 5 minutes away from here and worth every penny.

Yelp
I was looking over the online menu for the Cassave Taqueria, and got interested in the "Oakland Taco." Hmm, what could that be? So I ordered the: - Oakland Taco - Baja Fish Taco - Reg Nachos, No Meat $$$ Total was under $20 I went to pickup my food, and I guess they thought I was a food delivery guy because they just handed me my order. Okay, so I liked the tacos. The Oakland Taco is a super crispy taco shell, filled with ground beef, sour cream, lettuce, and cheese. Simple, super crispy, and loaded with meat. Price at about $5, it could use a little more spicy kick. The Baja Fish Taco was good, and it was prepared in a familiar fashion. Breaded and fried Cod, served over lettuce, pico de gallo and Mayo-chipotle aioli. Served in a soft tortilla. Also priced at about $5, this taco nearly came apart as I ate it. The Regular Nachos, w/ No Meat was okay. It doesn't travel well as takeout. Made with tortilla chips, beans, cheese, and pico de gallo. When it was fresh the chips were crispy. When I got home the chips were soft and soggy. Oh well, eat your nachos right away! Nice price at $8.75. Located at San Pablo Ave & 54th St in Emeryville. Small shared parking lot. Good Food at fair prices! Support Local Business!

Yelp
Cassave slander is never acceptable over here. I have been a loyal customer since I was a child and truly nothing compares to this food. The the food is always comforting, I would recommend anything from there especially their El Salvadoran options. All in all everything and everyone keeping the business going is amazing!

Yelp
Not my favorite. The fish tacos didn't quite have enough fish, but the chicken tacos were pretty good. We also got chips and guac and just didn't feel too impressed on those either.

Gabriel B.

Yelp
I don't know where this Mexican food is inspired from but I'm not a fan. The food wasn't bad but it also wasn't something I couldn't have done a much better job preparing at home. I get it tho, this neighborhood is not all that busy for restaurants. People here are satisfied with cheese and enchilada sauce, I unfortunately have a more refined pallet. I rate this place a three which is a "pass" in my opinion however, that's not what I go for. I am bored with food and need to be stimulated, lol.

Joachim J.

Yelp
They never fail. Very kind staff. Just simple delicious food. I love the fish taco the ground beef enchiladas with red sauce is wonderful. And of course, the chicken super burrito is a must be. And good prices.

Yelp
Got a grilled chicken super burrito. I was hungry after shopping nearby and I hadn't been to Cassave in years. Small spot, clean and tidy with a few tables inside. All burritos come with rice, your choice of beans, and pico de gallo. The bean choices are pinto, black or refried. They offer the options of flour, spinach, wheat and tomato tortillas. I opted for the spinach tortilla and black beans. The basic grilled chicken burrito is just $11. If you want chicken breast or chicken fajitas that's $12. Add $1.50 if you want the luxuriousness of a super burrito, which I went for. The burrito came out quickly. It was a good size and I liked that they grilled the tortilla. It just wasn't that tasty overall and the red and green sauce they supplied weren't particularly good. Next time I'll order it without the rice. I don't need the filler. Decent eating at a good price. There are plenty of better options in the East Bay. But sometimes, if you're in the neighborhood, you just want the place that's closest and this is not a bad bet in that case.

Yelp
The place is colorful and kitchy. I'm a pescatarian but I generally like to eat lots of vegetables at every meal. I was pleased to see grilled vegetables on the menu and ordered one taco with just the grilled broccoli, zucchini, spinach, onion and mushroom (I asked to leave out the bell peppers which were also available). That veg taco came with black beans. I also ordered a fish taco with the same grilled veggies added on top. As you can see they were generous with the veggies and they were also delicious. This is a great place to stop by if you're vegetarian, and of course they have the many meat options if you want them. The green salsa was super tasty and well balanced, and went perfectly with my crispy piece of fried fish. (I'm sure you could have it grilled if you prefer.)

Yelp
Cassave is my neighborhood pupuseria/taqueria. We have been going for years always friendly, quick and tasty! They have some great deals on tacos and burritos in certain days if the week that also makes it affordable to feed a familia in these over priced days and times.! Some of our favorites: the al pastor, carne asada, carnitas and pollo asado are all hella good. The salmon burrito and surf and turf (shrimp al mojo and asada) are also fantastic as are their daily rotation of aguas frescas.. I also love their yucca frita con chocharron! When in N Oakland Cassave is the spot for good Slvadorean and Mexican comida tipica!

Yelp
First time here Yelp led me to this restaurant Called in order on the phone. Customer service was good It was very easy for me to place my order I was told order would be ready in 10 min Drove up, found parking easily Walked in, venue is clean Paid for my order/contactless payment Awesome Noticed signage that says they have TACO THURSDAY $2 tacos all day !! Good deal Also noticed they serve breakfast from 8-11am and the offer $10 burritos on Fridays I ordered 2 chicken tacos Tacos were tasty and well prepared Salsa is good I will definitely come back and try other items Check in on Yelp and get a cool perk
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered pupusas and they did not come with curtido. I looked at their menu again to see if perhaps curtido had to be ordered separately as a side, but it isn't on the menu at all, except as an accompaniment to the yucca dish. Who eats pupusas without curtido?

Yelp
Cassave catered at my kids' school (EBI) annual party in Emeryville and everyone loved the food and fun staff. We also stop by this place for after-school snacks & take-out & leave with fullhappy bellies.

Kerri N.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood spot! Love the pupusas and burritos. Very thankful they are here in North Oakland

Yelp
Ten dollar burritos on Friday And live music. They also have sangria by the glass. So nice!

Yelp
Another late review, sorry, but I had felt like having plantains and getting to try flan, so I decided to order delivery from Cassave since I usually don't get out to Emeryville. I added on a vegetarian taco to make the delivery cost/greenhouse gas emissions more worthwhile, and the food also came with some chips. Platanos fritos: These were yummy. I don't think I've ever gone wrong with plantains. Also a nice balance between sweet and savory food by having plantains together with beans and cream! Vegetarian taco: This was also a solid choice. Admittedly not a fan of the individual vegetables that are included because I'm very picky with vegetables (I recall bell peppers, zucchini or squash) but it was cooked in a way that was yummy and not too bitter. Granted, I was also hungry. Flan: This was just okay for me. I'm not a fan of alcohol-flavored or otherwise bitter foods, so I would've preferred a flan that didn't have that strong alcohol taste to it and instead just a purely sweet dairy flavor. Overall, decent experience and I'm glad I was able to have a range of flavors that were all vegetarian.

Yelp
Fantastic ground beer supreme nachos with home made chips -yum! Friendly staff service was quick also. Covid clean also

Yelp
Today I was feeling like having a breakfast burrito to start my day and boy and I happy to have landed on this place. It was absolutely delicious! I chose bacon for my meat option. It comes with meat cheese eggs and green onions and I added potatoes for $1 more. It was sooooo good. And their green salsa was just the perfect icing on top. I'm so happy I decided to come here! I will be back to try other items. Additionally, the service was really good. They have great covid protocols and are super transparent about timing and everything. My food was made fresh and everything was perfect!

Yelp
East bay burrito review #21 First taste - 5/7 Meat - 4/7 Rice 4/7 Cheese 4/7 Tortilla 5/7 Guacamole 3/7 Salsa 3/7 Beans 4/7 Overall - 4/7 The tortilla while not steamed didn't have a ton of flavor/texture. That could be improved with a little grilling. The salsa was a little watery, and mostly heat. Guacamole was avocado pieces, which is fine but doesn't add a whole lot. I did enjoy it, and it's far better than it's competitor a few blocks away, but would reach for something else next time.

Yelp
We came for $2 Taco Thursday and it was pretty busy around 5:30p. Cashier was friendly and welcoming. I ordered 2 asada tacos, 2 carnitas & 1 al pastor. I didn't eat it all, got a few to take home for later. I thought the tacos were okay, not mind blowing but not bad for $2. I thought the asada needed some seasoning, some salt, anything as it was bland. Although the meat itself was good it just needed some flavor. Overall a solid place if hungry for some Mexican food. Parking can be tricky as the lot is small and shared with the donut shop that sells Chinese food.

H N.

Yelp
Man, they put chicken in my super healthy burrito, but everyone else got their order right and told me it was good. So I guess there's that. What's the point of a vegan/vegetarian burrito and you put chicken in it... Anyway, that's that.

Yelp
Delicious burritos and horchata, perfect for a road trip. Easy to find, too. .....................
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite new spot. Both cuisines are bomb. Quality ingredients cooked with care. Maricela is always patient, helpful and kind. The people who work the line are also very friendly and sweet. I've tried most of their menu and there isn't anything I haven't been impressed by. Favorites are the El Salvadoran Tamales, insanely soft and incredible texture, and the horchata
google avatar

Lanny B.

Yelp
Solid spot for authentic tacos and burritos. Their veggie tacos are really good!!! Zucchini and peppers and onions, but also charred broccoli. The addition of those little crunchy, crispy florets is not something I've seen elsewhere, but I don't know why!!!! Broccoli on a taco is really really good. It's worthwhile ducking into Cassave just for the veggie brocco-taco!! Cassave is workman-like, with a walk up order counter, a pick up window and a few tables inside. They're grilling meats at meal times, so it can be smoky inside.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite local Taqueria - really good burritos and tasty sauces. I have been going here for over four years. Excellent fried plantains as well. They do $10 burritos on Fridays.

Momma K.

Yelp
Decided to stop by here in the way home from grandsons BB Game. They were super busy, so busy they misplaced the ticket. When we asked about our order, the took our receipt and proceeded to prepare our meal and add something extra for the mistake. This us what I call great customer service. And again the food was good although my beans did spill over a little into the salad and enchiladas.

Yelp
At noon, I had a sudden craving for a burrito; as such, I found myself at Cassave. It has all the hallmarks of a quintessential local neighborhood Mexican restaurant, from vibrantly colored interior decor to simple but fast counter service. From such quotidian origins, Cassave has expanded into a second location on Adeline & Alcatraz. My order consisted of a chicken fajita burrito for $9.75 with the super option (cheese, sour cream, & guacamole) for another $1.50. My order, as with every, comes with a complimentary side of fresh tortilla chips. Notably, the salsa bar has quite flavorful, if hot, habanero salsa to pair with the chips, which I always get and inevitably vacillate between enjoyment and regret as I munch upon the chips awaiting my burrito. After just over 5 minutes, enough to build up a sweat from the habanero salsa, which I attempted to cure with a pint of Modelo Negra, I picked up my burrito, which was a mistake because it arrived piping hot. A few napkins and singed fingertips later, I dug in. It tasted quite fresh, and the chicken seemed juicy and seasoned enough to not get lost in the myriad of ingredients and flavors. Since the chicken fajita burrito represents a staple menu item at similar establishments, I have no unique insights to provide other than that it seemed well executed. Of course, that represents the raison d'etre of these establishments - not to revolutionize a meal, but to offer something familiar and satisfying. Cassave seems to hit the mark.

A N.

Yelp
When I come to the Emeryville/Berkeley area, this is my favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch. It seems that many locals eat here. My daughter had the carne asada tacos. I've ordered super carnitas and carne asada burritos in flour, or spinach, or tomato tortillas. All so delicious. The staff are friendly and super helpful.
google avatar

Jean K.

Yelp
Okay, but very small, very loud - had a hard time hearing the lady's questions. Very little seating, cheap everything but clean and fast service - a lot of people come in and order their favs, get it and drive away in less than 10 min. start to finish. Considering the various options and surprisingly big menu, that's impressive, LOL. Skip the nachos, which were the worst I've ever had. La Calaca Loca/Oakland has nothing to worry about when it comes to their own superior nachos dish. Plus, the carne asada I requested was tasteless, dry and overcooked. Shrimp burrito was okay, nothing exceptional. The folks running this place are cheerful and very nice. This taqueria will work if you're in the area or live nearby, but it isn't worth going out of your way to come here, considering how many better taquerias there are in the EBay.

Juliana R.

Yelp
This is our local spot for the last three years! Their pupusas, burritos, and tacos ALWAYS hit. The staff is always super friendly too. Our faves are the Baja Fish Taco, Mole Burrito, and Zuchini Pupusas. Thanks, Cassave for all the wonderful food over the years!

Yelp
I just did a review of their food truck and was so happy to find that they have a restaurant less than 10 min away in Emeryville! I was craving Mexican food last night and definitely had to get their super nachos and platanos fritos. The small restaurant is nestled in a mini plaza on San Pablo Ave. near a Papa Johns. The interior is colorful and cute and Mexican music was playing. I ordered my usual and my bf got some tacos. They have a variety of salsas that ranged from mild to 3x hot. Had a seat on one of the booths with an awesome tile tabletop. Reminded me of Churreria de Moro in Mexico City. Our food arrived and of course each bite was heaven. The crisp of the fresh chips, real melted mozzarella, yummy carne asada, beans, guac, sour cream, pico de gallo- yum! Also the platanos were on point as usual. I noticed the restaurant served the refried pinto beans and the food truck served it with black beans. They were both delicious but I think I have a slight preference for the black. Will be back again for sure once that craving hits, unless their food truck shows up near my work before then!

Yelp
Always amazing. Always on time. Best pupusas in the East Bay. Delivery is also always very fast.
google avatar

Monika F.

Yelp
Love this neighborhood taqueria!!! Seems to be primarily woman-operated, which is rad!! Everyone always seems so happy here, and they're always kind and professional. Huge menu, pretty much everything is awesome, and I especially appreciate the fajita-style burrito with a balanced mix of veggies and meat. Mole, carnitas, and chicken fajita are my go-to orders. The Al Pastor is succulent, lightly spiced pork, but it's not the flavor combination I expect from an al pastor. Salsas are great and their chilaquiles is a solid breakfast! Can't wait to try the fried ice cream!!
google avatar

Lizette V.

Yelp
I ordered the Pupusa's 2 for $9.75 and they were the flattest and most expensive I have ever had. These were really nasty! NOT WORTH IT!
google avatar

Starla G.

Yelp
I've lived down the street 12 years now and this is my go to neighborhood burrito and taco spot. But what I love them for is the pupusas and plantains. And chiliquiles! The Mama Jacinta breakfast hits the spot and includes most of my favorites. If I'm really hungry I'll add a side of steak or bacon.

Yelp
As a Mexican, I feel it! Surprise surprise, tried this place out on Cinco de Mayo for some festive Mexican take out during COVID. As a Mexican, I thoroughly enjoyed! I ordered via Yelp Take-Out/Delivery and opted for take-out. I ordered a bunch of sides since I had tortilla chips at home: carne asada, pico de gallo (wish they had real salsa on the sides menu, didn't bother to ask either- next time!), refried beans, and guac (of course). My order was ready in about 20 minutes- I was able to track via Yelp. Being it was Cinco de Mayo AND COVID, I'm sure all Mexican restaurants were a little disorganized... but aren't we all these days?! My food was ready when I got there, just look a little bit to get someone's attention- no biggie given our situation. The food was good! Definitely hit the Mexican craving. All sides can be split for two. Carne asada was great, ate that in one sitting lol I definitely will be back to try more of the prepared dishes!

Melinda G.

Yelp
These people are the absolute best. They have catered multiple events for my family and it was delicious every time. Love them, love their food.

Marcus-Alex G.

Yelp
Solid Mexican food, amazing guacasala, and extremely reasonable pricing for the area. Most Mexican places out in the bay charge $18-$20 for a super burrito, but I was surprised to find a super burrito for $12 here. Very awesome costumer service and they have daily special's. Totally a rare good value find in the bay.

Patricia M.

Yelp
Good food cook to order strict no substitution policy. Friendly front staff. seems to help if you speak Spanish. Nice music clean atmosphere. Plenty of parking right in front.
google avatar

Yelp
The restaurant is this really cute little place that looks unassuming, but the food is amazing. They really have the best menudo I have ever had, and the horchata is delicious. We were a fan of the burritos too. The servers are always really nice and the food always comes out quickly. If you are looking for good food, definitely come here!

Cynthia P.

Yelp
Hosted a large grad party and wanted something delicious, easy to serve and reasonably priced. I could not be more pleased with the wonderful drop-off catered service we received from Cassave Restaurant and Taqueria. I worked with Antonio, who was extremely helpful, friendly, on time, and the food was AMAZING. My guests all LOVED it. We had Chicken Enchiladas, a large side of Guacamole, and a hardy Street Taco Bar including rice and beans and all the fixings. I could not be more pleased and I highly recommend Cassave Restaurant & Taqueria. Thank you.
google avatar

Shanita F.

Yelp
I had the Mexico City tacos with chicken. The chicken was unbelievably dry. The cilantro and onions didn't taste fresh, but wasn't bad. I tried one bite of someone else's prawn tacos, and they were pretty good. They did have toppings cart so that you can add salsa, jalapeños etc. to your tacos. The cart was clean, and well stocked. They have fruit infused water available for everyone, which is nice. I tried the Jamaica agua fresca and enjoyed it. All things considered, I would suggest trying another restaurant for tacos. (I can't speak to their plates or pupusas which looked good in PICTURES).

Yelp
Tonight I went out to Emeryville in East Bay(over the bridge). We played scrimmage field hockey. My driver and I decided to have dinner at Cassave. It was basic Mexican..Hmm the burritos were too expensive at over $10. I decided on chicken quesadillas and they were fine and not overpriced. I didn't even finish the whole serving. They had free chips and salsas. The red salsa burned my mouth and I was drinking too much water to compensate. We hung out for a bit and ate. It was a basic Mexican restaurant in Emeryville near the field.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a coworker. Parking is tight in the small lot, but found street parking. I didn't realize how busy it would be during lunch. I ordered the lengua burrito. The tortilla chips served with the meal were crispy. I liked the salsa and marinated veggie bar. The vinegar onions and jalapeños were delicious. The spiciest salsa was good, but still not to hot for my liking. My burrito was huge. The tongue was cooked perfectly that it was tender. The hot salsa added the heat I got anted for my burrito. Great lunch place to stop by again for tongue burrito.
