Google
Real Deal Casse-Croûte right here! The best poutine and it comes in 4 sizes. Snagged a Club Sandwich too, absolutely unbelievable. The two gentlemen working the counter/cooking were so lovely!

David B.

Google
Delicious hand made "casse-croute" staples like poutine's, burgers, and hand made traditional fries. Poutines are next level, stacked with fresh local cheese curds, gravy, and your choice of toppings. The galvaude is a traditional version topped with roasted chicken breast and green peas. This one was perfect and packed with chicken and peas! Fantastic value, for Delicious scratch made food. Im having the Michigan dog next time!

Jo Anne T.

Google
My first ever poutine and it was incredible, made fresh. The texture of the fries were perfect, deeply browned. The cheese was squeaky and the gravy was well seasoned. The jalapenos poppers were beautifully fried and creamy spicy.

Google
Super fun little place. The door doesn't close properly. There's barely room to stand inside. But the food is awesome and the people working there are great! I had a cheeseburger (with everything) and a micro poutine classique. They were both fantastic. They use proper curds for the poutine. The fries are fresh and the gravy is hot! Perfection!

Google
Great vibes! Open until 4am for poutine and loud tunes.

Rakshit G.

Google
Worst experience ever. Don’t fall for fake 5 star reviews. The poutines were cold and funny thing is their cheese doesn’t melt even after reheating. Overpriced. Waste of money. Fires burnt

Steven L.

Google
The poutine was simple with good texture on the fries, and not overly salty gravy. The burger was juicy and the toppings tasted fresh.

Tricia L.

Google
Curds so squeaky they almost felt like tofu, great fries, get a micro size if you just want a small late night snack! Micro poutine classique w a Pepsi 👌🏼

Yelp
A must try! The poutine is incredible. From the squeaky, crumbled cheese curds, to the thick and deliciously sweet sauce brun, to the perfectly fried fries. You really can't go wrong with the classic. I'm really looking forward to the next time I'm in Quebec City so that I can come back to this case-crute. Also, the staff are super friendly!

Yelp
Definitely a local place. I saw chez Gaston recommended online as some of the best poutine in town. I've never had poutine before and figured this would be the place. The restaurant is tiny, there's maybe 10 seats. The decor is not anything to write home about but honestly perfect for a hole in the wall poutine place. The service spoke some English but French was preferred. She was quite nice and listened to my friend pantomime an order. I ordered the poutine Gaston (it has to be good if they put their name on it. I was unimpressed personally but I think it's just not for me. It was a good poutine experience but it did not convince me to have poutine again. I would take someone here for poutine though, it's definitely an experience and you feel in the coming here.

Yelp
This place looks like a hole in the wall. But while it looks like that because its compact lay out, it delivers really great poutine. There are plenty of options to order and the gravy is delightfully good. Its also very inexpensive food, freshly made when ordered, and the stream of people coming to eat here provides a really nice variety of seeing what people order and whats good.
google avatar

Denzil D.

Yelp
Perfect poutine. They take the time to cook fresh fries and a perfect balance of sauce, fries and cheese. Enjoy!

Yelp
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Not only can you not find an English menu anywhere (store or website), the cashier also doesn't speak English and did not even try to be the least bit helpful. Both the chef and cashier DID NOT wear their masks or gloves while preparing the food. The cashier goes from taking your cash and then touching your food without washing hands. Also, they do not sanitize the eating areas and you can see flies everywhere. The food is just ok, poutineville is much better. Honestly, this is just gross and unacceptable. Also, there's construction on the streets so good luck finding a parking spot.

Yelp
There's absolutely nothing more Quebecois then poutine.  We are so unfortunate that in the GTA no one has access to super squeaky fresh cheddar cheese curds like they do around here.  For those of you who don't know, "squeaky" cheese curds are actually spongy and chewy. They are only in this state when they are freshly made for a day or two. Chez Gaston is a fantastic late night joint serving some of the best poutine that we've ever had.  They bring their cheese curds from a local formagerie daily and they are absolutely fresh and squeeky.  Portions are large, decadent and delicious. Not sure what to get? Get a classic poutine. Hung over and starved?  The Gaston or Slyvia would do the trick with loads of curds, hot dogs, bacon, sausages....etc..... so, so good! Antoine our server was so friendly and informative on how they make their food.  Such a pleasure to talk to! 4.5/5 for some amazing poutine!

Yelp
First experience with poutine. Honestly, it was all right... it didn't amaze me nor convinced me to be a regular poutine eater. Poutine in general is a very fatty, unhealthy food of fries smothered in gravy and topped with beef and wiener. ... so I prefer my fries crispy outside and soft inside AND I prefer mashed potatoes with gravy. This is like an awkward mix. Service was very friendly typical of French Canada. Ambience is a small diner/take-out style.
google avatar

Cindy N.

Yelp
Service was SO FAST and they did not disappoint with the classic poutine! I do have to say, it would've helped if there was an English menu but regardless, the food was great
google avatar

TK L.

Yelp
I can't remember the last time I got tourist trapped... The ambiance is quite unique and "divey" with the R&B music but the poutine was by far very ordinary. Fresh-cut fries but wtf is in that gravy... Yes I get that this is open late and close to the nightclub streets, and that at 3am perhaps nothing is more satisfying than some fatty food, but for any other occasion, I'd pass.
google avatar

Yelp
Casual poutine place with a flare of retro decor. I tried the classic poutine in petite, the portion was hefty for a lunch serving for me. The fries were fat and juicy, the beef stock gracy was rich and flavorful. Best of all were the cheese curds, SUPER SQUEEKY -- it made the dish!!! Highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood looking for some tasty and economical poutine.
google avatar

Julianne M.

Yelp
This spot is a hole in the wall, pretty dive-y, and was filled with French speaking bikers when I strolled in. One gal manned the grill and she was great with answering all of our questions and casually chatting. I went for the classic poutine while Jeff went for the one with 'all of the meats,' both were phenomenal.

Yelp
Call it the Poutine dive bar of Quebec! I came here with my family on our trip to Quebec City. From the recommendation of the cook, we went with the Sylton. Call it the kitchen sink of Poutine! Beef, hot dog, onions, cheese curbs, and gravy. Though looking heavy, surprisingly light and delicious!! Gravy was flavorful yet light. You don't feel like you gained weight after eating here. Fries cooked perfectly. Seats about 12-15. Seems like it's the go to for the locals. People kept coming in and I can see why!

Yelp
We were looking for a real Poutine experience and we'd heard about this 'hole in the wall' place. We're from the UK so it reminded me of a kebab shop setup. The server was really friendly and helpful. We ordered the Gaston Poutine. Being a Poutine obsessive I would say I was pretty impressed. The chips (fries) were perfectly cooked and the amount of gravy (brown sauce) was great for me. I like my fries with a lot of gravy!! The cheese curds were fresh and had that squeaky texture in your teeth! Me and my partner shared a large, which is more than enough for 2 people!

John C.

Yelp
'Was really excited as my son and I love poutine, and have tried all over Montreal. 'Read Gaston's was one of the best in Quebec City... we saw a couple of local guys order poutine, eating in, they complained politely of cold gravy and was served a new portion... the cook was great, as their sauce cooker was not working properly... cold gravy. So he warmed up the cold gravy in a separate foil platter and reserved them... nice. We ordered the "grosse" or extra large at $20+, tax in... I watched them give us form the cold cold gravy pot, not heated up... then gave them a chance. The server lady handed it to me and I asked, "la sauce est chaud?" Always speaking in French. She looked at the cook, who avoided her question, she looked back at me and said, "oui"... as we were hungry and in a rush, took our "grosse" poutine and petite frites and headed to our hotel around the corner... Very disappointed because potions were not generous; there were empty parts of the container, fries didn't fill the paper bag, and on top of it all the fries were over cooked/burnt... we ate it some of it due to hunger, but didn't finish... and possibly hot gravy may have salvaged some of it... our home made sandwiches saved the day... I'm all for second chances.... But for $26.59, a waste of money, McDonald's would have been better prepared food. Perhaps was a bad day, or poor working team...

Yelp
I was craving poutine. I found this little spot, walking distance from my hotel, and had a quick lunch. I ordered the original poutine, with cheese curds and gravy. Good cheese curds are kinda rubbery. They fit the bill. The fries are freshly cut every day, deep fried goodness. I wanted to love it, but it was just ok for me. I enjoy a good poutine that has cheese curds that melt. The gravy was hot , the fries were tasty, and yet with every bite I tasted rubbery cheese. If you are planning to go as a group, there's not a lot of seating. It's better to do take-out. The owner is super sweet as well. Overall, I still think la belle province makes the best poutine I've ever had.
google avatar

Kyle M.

Yelp
The best classic poutine you'll have. It's a story as old as time that the best food is served by the most local person you can find. You will not find artisanal beer, nice wine, a bib, a server that cares about you, or an atmosphere that will wow you. Get over it and come by this place and order the $4 poutine and a glass of water and move on. Don't order another poutine and you won't be disappointed. I'm done
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
You want to know who has the real poutine, you have to go there! Real quebecer familial food. Fresh, just fresh!
google avatar

Christopher W.

Yelp
Local place, no tourist with great poutine! Food was made fresh and worth the walk. They have several different poutine options but I chose the regular. I like the gravy and they weren't afraid to pour it on.
google avatar

Patty G.

Yelp
Great little hole In the wall. Best poutine and cheap prices. Guy at the counter very friendly to us non-French speakers. If you are going to try poutine, try it here.
google avatar

Jeremy R.

Yelp
Fantastic service. Well prepared and inventive menu. This is a place for the good stuff comfort food. For exemple, fully loaded hotdogs with all the fixins including coleslaw (Hot dog incroyable). :) reasonable prices!

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our poutine in this cozy cafe. Our fries were fresh, cheese was squeaky, gravy was hot and delicious. We watched our meal being prepared and chatted with the chef - thoroughly enjoyable!

Yelp
We wanted to experience some classic poutine and it just so happened that this place was just down the road from our Airbnb. I'm no pro with poutine, but I thoroughly enjoyed the roast beef poutine that I ordered. The ratio of curds, gravy (aka brown sauce) and fries was perfect but would have enjoyed a little more meat. We ordered a large ($16) and it was more then enough for the two of us to get our fix. One thing I'd change: Gravy was salty. One thing I liked: Made fresh to order. Call ahead if you are looking to run in and out, otherwise expect 7-10 minutes.

Mike Z.

Yelp
Awesome local spot. Affordable prices, good food, and friendly staff. Try the hot-dog incroyable. It's very good.

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
This place has amazing poutine hamburgers hotdogs and more and it rly cheap $ amazing service and really nice people

Jan C.

Yelp
Amazing hole in the wall kinda restaurant. They make really good poutine. I ordered Le Poutine Gaston and it was really delicious. It has onion, sausage and grind meat. The cheese are amazing. They put a small amount of gravy so if you like more, you have to pay $1 to add more sauce. The service is quick. They have a small area for quick dine in but not enough for a group of people. They lady was very patient with tourist who doesn't speak French. Overall experience was good. Street parking is hard to find.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
We are Americans from New York and we have never had poutine before. This was a great place for our first time. We had the Sylvie poutine (ff, cheese curds, gravy, ground beef and bacon). The petite size was plenty and delicious. The chef was nice and spoke English. We could watch our food being made right on the grill in front of us. Its a very small restaurant and tables/seats are limited. Overall a great experience for our first meal in Quebec, Canada
google avatar

Nicole J.

Yelp
Superb service & great food (especially for the night owls who are heading home post bar hop). Convenient that this small shop is open into the late night hours because this is the perfect stop for some drunk munchies. As we approached for a plate of original poutine to take back to our Airbnb after a night out, the place was slow & the chef was hanging out outside with one of the employees, but both were excited to cook up some grub & talk to us. Within 5 minutes, we were on our way back home with a fresh hot container of gravy covered cheesy goodness in hand. The food was awesome, had a ton of cheese curds (which we LOVED) but just a liiiiiiiittle too much gravy and salt for our liking, hence the 4-star rating as opposed to a 5. Perfect spot for a guilty pleasure snack or hangover cure if you're daring enough!

Yelp
A definitive five stars. This unassuming casse-croûte, which to us Americans would fit in somewhere between the fast food and the fast casual categories, offers without a doubt the best poutine I have ever tasted. My friends and I could not decide exactly what to order, so the rather down-to-earth gentleman behind the counter recommended that he just throw all of the possible meats on there. It turned out to be a wise recommendation, for the meats are exactly what sets this place apart. They were neither overdone at all nor overstated to the point where you cannot enjoy the taste of the fries or cheese curds. One of the previous reviewers, in French, commented that the onions, too, made quite a difference with respect to flavor compared to other establishments; I would wholeheartedly agree with this statement. Our cook/waiter/server was particularly friendly to us, having come from a humble background near one of the many small towns in the middle of nowhere that we encountered on the way to driving to Quebec from Mont-Tremblant. Although we spoke non-Quebecois French, we found that like many Quebecois, he had a preference for English instead, which was excellent and reminded me of a typical millennial who would fit in a rock band of sorts. He was patient in explaining to us the menu items that we were not familiar with, such as _un pogo_ which is essentially a corn dog. If you only had one day to explore Quebec and have a harkening for poutine, do not hesitate to visit this location. They are reportedly open until the wee hours of the morning to feed the mainly inebriated folks who frequent the area during such times, so to use a familiar slogan, you can "eat great, even late" at a place other than Wendy's right on rue Dorchester.
google avatar

Rebecca R.

Yelp
I knew on my first trip to Quebec as an American, I had to try the mysterious cuisine known as "poutine." A quick search on Yelp revealed this as the best in the area. It did not disappoint. Fresh, hot, and gravylicious. Canada, why must you keep things like Timbits and poutine hoarded beyond your borders?! Place was super small - I gather most of the business is take out. I didn't have much trouble ordering given my ZERO French skills. I recognize this is my only poutine experience, but I do have to thank Yelp for pointing this my way during my visit. I shall properly measure all poutine against it henceforth!
google avatar

Dave P.

Yelp
Everything else was closed, my brother and I stumbled across this awesome place! Very nice chef, very good poutine. The best I've ever had. You got to check this place out if you're in the area!

Rachelle L.

Yelp
Had the poutine. So much cheese and topings and gravy!! They definitely don't skimp out unlike other poutine places. Delicious!!

Mary S.

Yelp
Great poutine at a very attractive price. Kind of a dive joint so we took our orders to go. The poutine came in 4 sizes-- petite, small, medium and large. We had a petite and medium that the three of us shared and it was just the right amount unless you are very hungry. We had the Poutine Gaston and the Sylvie. We liked the Sylvie more with the bacon instead of the sausage in the Gaston. Will come back one more time before we leave QC. Definitely a local favorite with great poutine, burgers and hot dogs.
google avatar

David V.

Yelp
This is a hole in the wall place, but it has excellent service and great poutine. There are just two tables and a bar. No alcoholic beverages.
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
Great authentic place for some good food, great poutine and awesome service, all at a really good price.
google avatar

marjan w.

Yelp
This was my first true experience of real poutine!!! Omg I could have died!!! Soooooo delicious try it all! Even the hotdog was like so good... the guy who took my order was super friendly. Don't worry about not speaking French they've got you covered
google avatar

Nadim J.

Yelp
One of the best poutine in town! You need to try the GASTON special!! So good. This small place is very hidden. I don't really drive to places to get some poutine but it was well worth it. He makes it right in front of you and the price is extremely reasonable. If you come to Quebec City you MUST go there!
google avatar

Indre C.

Yelp
It was our first time trying poutine, and I must say it was very good. We got a large plate with steak, sausage and onions to share and paid ~15 dollars. I gave 4 stars as potatoes could have used some more washing. Overall, a good place and they speak English!
google avatar

Alexandru I.

Yelp
Best authentic poutine ever. We've tried poutine in other places in Quebec city but none beat the daily hand cut fries, delicious gravy and the squeaky cheese curds. Absolutely phenomenal and the staff is very friendly. If you want to eat like the locals, this is the best you will ever experience. Would recommend 10/10!
google avatar

J F.

Yelp
Sooooo good - we came back two days in a row! Such friendly service, this no doubt added to the enjoyment of the food! This is a super casual dive with limited seating and the best poutine we found anywhere in Canada.
google avatar

Fred M.

Yelp
Got La Sylvie here and it really is as good as it gets for poutine if you're from out of town. I was also a fan of the clientele, which were pretty much foodies and locals, as well as the miracle worker behind the counter! :)
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall. The staff was very friendly and considerate. The poutine was solid, nothing extraordinary yet perfect at the same time. I would highly recommend. If you're sick and tired of the up scale flavour of old town definitely drop by.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall Poutine with great company. If you want some squeaky cheese curds exotic styles of Poutine. Thai is the spot.
google avatar

Jill P.

Yelp
Being a newbie to the enjoyment of Poutine I did a bit of research looking for the best classic poutine in QC and am so glad it lead me to Chez Gaston! This is a small place and well worth making your way to -the cheese curds are fresh and squeaky, the fries crisp and hot (note: hand cut yukon gold spuds), and the gravy a perfect balance of salt and savory goodness! On top of that the gentleman behind the counter was kind, courteous and very helpful - even shared a couple recommendations for places to see during our visit to QC. Thanks for a delicious introduction to poutine!
google avatar

Hannah E.

Yelp
The chef was so nice! He was very willing to speak to us in English (we're non-French speakers), and the poutines we got were amazingly good. Like previous reviews have said, the toppings made a huge difference--especially the onions.

Kyle C.

Yelp
Fun and friendly experience with the family. The young woman behind the grill did not disappoint! We watched her single handedly work through waves of hungry customers, French and English speaking, with a smile and positive vibe that made the experience worth it! The combination of ingredients was good fun and all that a hungry family of 4 could hope for. Another family with small kids were given a show as the chef prepared their mini burgers for them special. It is this kind of attention to the customer and knowing her crowd, that makes such a simple quick bite to eat a memorable experience. Très bien! Definitely recommend. Side note...We almost turned away because it was packed and pretty tight inside. Fear not, this magician wielding the spatula is more than up to the task!

Chris F.

Yelp
Fantastic spot in Quebec City. Parking was tough but well worth the few extra minutes and the walk. Staff very friendly to a group of parents and kids who didn't speak much French. Food was excellent. The Sylvie Poutine was amazing. The Ti-Guy and the Guedille Au Poulet were great.
google avatar

Julius L.

Yelp
Now THIS is a good hole-in-the-wall type place. First time having poutine and it shattered my expectations.

Julian M.

Yelp
Great value poutine joint for plain and topping lovers. Friendly service with great music. Portion sizes are in tin foil carry ons so you know you are getting the most for your money when compared restaurant plate bowls.

Joey Y.

Yelp
Ordered an original poutine and it was delicious! The wait is a bit long and it's a small store so it's hard to eat there. The fries are freshly cut each day and they're very generous with the cheese curds!

Salina C.

Yelp
The BEST poutines!!! We were eating poutines here and there in Montreal and Quebec City, including the renowned La Banquise (Montreal). Casse-Croute Gaston has them all beat! The gravy was tastiest, and the cheese was delicious and plentiful (no skimping here!). We were served by Sarah, who also made our food. She was great. Sarah said they get their cheese fresh daily (except Sundays when the cheese isn't made/delivered) and cut their own potatoes fresh daily as well. Go check out this little place! Fantastic!
