Great atmosphere for dining in. Staff were super friendly and nice. Hamburgers and patty melts are good at this location, just like the other location. Consistently good.

Off the bat, I have to say that the burger was tasty and the French fries. Sauces were meh. Credit to the chef. But man the cost of the food here is far beyond the size and taste. For what it cost my mind should have been blown. (And yeah, I knew what the prices were going in). The other downside here is that the location is a bit hard to find, as it is tucked away in a small complex of cottages that have different food establishments in them. I have no idea who the target audience is for this place. I felt like I was in someone's Instagram advertisement versus a real restaurant.

I'm calling it. Best burger I've had in ages. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The bun is fantastic. My new favorite!

1 of the best burgers and definitely the best carrot cake .service with a smile and the unique restaurant setup

Google
The food solid and the portions were generous. For example, you could share the onion rings amongst 2-3 people easily. There is indoor and shaded outdoor seating in a sweet garden. I’d go again.

Wandered in here while visiting Perilla LA, nestled in a quaint little quick-service food village. Indoor seating was the draw!

Yelp
Epic burgers with a Northern Cal Wine Country Feel in the heart of the city!! My favorite is the Breakfast Burger on toasted hash brown bun. Plus a super friendly staff!

Yelp
Cassell's in Chinatown is in a charming location. Great outdoor space to really enjoy the weather. We ordered the classic burger which was a 1/3lb, but cost extra for cheese which is a bit ridiculous. And for the price, no fries were given which is quite a bummer. Any burger above $12 should come with some sort of side. We added on basic onion rings for $9 and a hard hashbrown for $5 making the meal $30. The patty was juicy and thick, done medium rare and very enjoyable. It came with thousand island like sauce on the side. They also have a breakfast burger where the buns are substituted for the same hashbrowns you can get as sides. It's great for the gram, but all of the oils from the hashbrown make it very heavy and difficult to eat. It also comes with runny eggs. It's a novel idea, but flavors aren't perfect so I'd skip this even though it's very tempting. Essentially the hashbrown isn't a sufficient replacement for the buns and too oily. They overcook the hashbrown to make it firm enough to hold the patty. Service is interesting since you have to go up to the server station to make an order like counter service and they never really checked on us. So I guess you would just tip like you would counter service. I saw that a SLICE of carrot cake was $10, everything is so expensive. It's also nice that there's coffee and pastries around the corner. It's a nice escape.

Yelp
This location nestled in Chinatown is truly what they call a hidden gem. Tucked away in an alley, it's really easy to miss unless you know where to look. I initially mistook the back entrance for the front, but one of the friendly employees kindly redirected me to the actual entrance which opens up to a charming little garden with benches and tables. The interior is clean, inviting and gives off a relaxed diner vibe. We ordered their Breakfast burger (which uses hash browns as buns) and their tuna melt. While the concept of the breakfast burger was fun, it ended up being way too greasy for my taste. The hash browns added more oil than I expected, making the overall bite heavier than I would have liked. In hindsight, I should have ordered a regular burger to truly enjoy the patty. The tuna melt was also just OKAY - nothing mind blowing but it wasn't bad either. The fries, however, was plump, crispy and really tasty. I think trying both the breakfast burger and splitting the tuna melt with my bf just made the whole meal feel overly heavy, which made it a bit hard to judge the food. For now, I'm giving this spot a solid 4 stars. I definitely want to come back and try a regular burger on its own to get the full experience.

Yelp
One of the biggest things I miss from when I lived in Koreatown is Cassell's. So, I was pleased to find out they opened a new location in Chinatown! Same great burgers in a secluded, almost hidden location. The building is surprisingly surrounded by greenery with great outdoor seating. This place has the complete menu including breakfast, but it lacks the famous pie case of the original location. However, they do have some cakes. It can be pretty expensive--but it's a nice antidote to the smash burger craze. Just simple, juicy burgers. I will say I've never been a fan of their somewhat crumbly brioche buns--but that's a minor issue A really great burger in a very unique location!

Yelp
Beautiful setting for lunch or brunch in a dog friendly garden setting that makes you feel like you are in the country. From burgers, tuna melt, breakfast sandwich, everything was delicious and freshly made to order. Came for lunch but will try their brunch next time.

Yelp
Before today, I've only known and visited the KTown location. Very happily surprised that there was one in Chinatown, a few minutes drive from my work, so went there today and took my coworker. He ordered fried chicken sando, which he enjoyed. I ordered the tuna melt after finding they make theirs in-house, so I had to try it - and I was very pleased. Cassell's Hamburgers is hidden away in the same cottage space as Baker's Bench. The indoor space is slightly more intimate but can either accommodate a big party at their large table or seat community style. We sat in their patio area, which was lovely. There isn't much of a view but it's like having a friend over and enjoying a light homey lunch, catching up. Love love love. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
My girlfriend live a couple streets down and have been meaning to come here for a while. Delicious classic, thick-patty American burgers, like something you'd get at a really nice diner. It isn't cheap, but you can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients. The patio/garden is super cute and peaceful, and the employees were very friendly ad well.

Yelp
A hidden oasis I went to the Vintageland market with a friend and then they took me to this beautiful place! What I thought was a driveway turned into a whole lil community of businesses and an outdoor space. The garden was heavenly! The gardener was really kind and answered all of my questions too the restaurant is built in an old craftsman home and has all kinds of sammiches, burgers, and brews. We got the chicken sando and chili cheese fries. The pico on the fries were delicious and they were fried to perfection. The chicken sandwich was good, but I wonder if I should've gotten a burger. I guess I'll have to come back for that and a milkshake

Yelp
This place is so cute in the heart of LA! I highly recommend the burger and sweet potato fries. There's also a cute coffee shop by the entrance that has great drinks. Can't wait to return to Cassells's Hamburgers!

Yelp
Decided it was a burger day today and was craving Cassell's burgers. The only one left that I knew of is in Koreatown, but to my surprise, a new one has opened on the border of Chinatown/Echo Park, less than a mile from my house! So excited. It is a little tricky to find this new enclave of businesses around the corner from the famous Eastside Deli, which has been the only thing holding down this neighborhood for years. I called first to make sure it was open and that I could find it. Luckily for all the signs, it was easy to find. You walk into what looks like little homes turned into a tiny community of businesses off of Centennial St. I do remember the old diner vibes of the closed Cassell's in Downtown, but now it has turned into a more homey feel, with indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is beautiful and has a wonderful flower garden and rose arches. I ordered 2 classic hamburgers w cheese, onion rings and sweet potato waffle fries. BURGERS: This is more of a traditional burger with some thickness to it. They allow you to pick the temp, so we got medium rare. It was cooked perfect. My fiancée loved it. He prefers these meatier burgers to the popular smash burgers popping up everywhere. The bread is so buttery and meat was juicy. If you order to go, they pack everything with trying to minimize getting the burger soggy, so the fixings (lettuce, onions, tomato, and pickle) are all on the side, along with the sauce. I don't like pickles in my burger, but I did eat my pickles by itself. You could tell they were cut from a larger pickle... so good. ONION RINGS: The onion rings are fantastic and is now up there with the rings from Pijja Palace down the way. Big pieces of onion fried to perfection. SWEET POTATO WAFFLE FRIES: The sweet potato waffles fries are good too, but they add sugar, so it is almost like a dessert to me. In these cases I never know what type of sauce to use with it... Speaking of sauces... we tried a few and they all have great flavor. I believe some are made in house. We had the Thousand Island for the burger, house mayo and the Ranch. I actually didn't use much sauce because all the food tasted good as is. Only thing here is that it was on the pricier side for 2 burgers and 2 sides, but when I get that burger craving again I know I will return!

Yelp
Best Onion Rings, Crispy Batter and real onion slices. Blue Cheese & Ranch home made goodness. (I can't tolerate those cornmeal batters) I didn't try any Burgers or Sandwiches so I can't say. Cute Converted Craftsman House with nice porch & garden ambiance. Or Indoor seating, was too stuffy & hot.

Yelp
It's a little hard to find (its behind the fence, you enter from the side) but they've got some of the best hamburgers anywhere. I've eaten at the downtown location many times but this one is much more laid back. They have outside ding tables, too.

Yelp
Very cozy and friendly place to eat some lunch in China Town! Tuna melt is very good a little pricy since u don't get fries or chips and it could use a little salt but still very good! I will return and get a burger and fries next time. Prompt , cordial service!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised to find this nearby. I was working in the vicinity and I've eaten at the original Cassell's. GPS said I had arrived but I couldn't find it. The store front is not on Alpine but look for signs pointing to the coffee place. There are several small businesses on a small lot, Cassell's can be found walking through a bakery. I got a classic burger with cheddar cheese, fries, and a cherry Coke. The room is nice, old architecture and it must have been a small house. Very quaint with a nice patio and garden to eat in. Other customers appeared to be Bo-Hos. Room was clean, service was quick and friendly. The burger tasted delicious and fresh but was greasy. The French fries were cooked perfectly and arrived with a cup of homemade Ranch with dill for dipping. Nice relaxing experience, great burger and environs! A bit pricey though and street parking can be difficult. But I LIKED IT - a lot!

Yelp
The food is amazing. The service is great! We came here on 8/ 2 around 10:40 AM-ish and it seems like a running club was just finishing up. The remaining people I'm assuming the coordinators spent the entire 10 minutes talking crap about everyone in their run club . Come for the food and stay for the tea

Yelp
My dad worked for the DWP for 34 years and would talk about the burgers at Cassell's on 6th Street. Was sorry to hear that they had closed, but then heard they and relocated down the street. My son and I were looking for a new hamburger spot after the Counter in Pasadena closed and when looking up Cassell's found they had opened a spot on Alpine which is only 3 miles from our house. We tried it this weekend and were so glad we did! Hadn't known it was located in a refurbished craftsman house with two other businesses, so after a little wandering around, we found the entrance. You can enter from Alpine just be aware it looks like you are entering someone's front yard. We entered from the driveway on Centennial Street. Better signage would definitely be helpful. Our order was taken by a very friendly and helpful lady. We didn't have to wait long. We ordered the cheeseburger with fries and a house made cream soda for me and my son got the patty melt with onion rings and a strawberry shake. Both were excellent and generous! The patties were thick and juicy with melted cheese covering my burger. The bun was soft but didn't fall apart. Lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles were on the side. I asked for thousand island to go with my burger and it was tangy and delicious. The fries were thicker cut with the skin on fried crisp outside and soft inside - just perfect. My son's patty melt was a beautiful sight to see, with melted Swiss cheese and the grilled rye bread shimmering with butter and came with a delicious garlic aioli. He ordered two patties but said after that one would have been more than enough - he finished it all just the same. His onion rings had a light breading and were crisp and so yummy. The cream soda was refreshing and not overly sweet and the strawberry shake was creamy and perfect. Seating both inside and outside in the garden, front porch and patio. Since it was a perfect LA day, we sat on the porch. Not inexpensive, but so worth it for a special meal. Wish we had been able to go to the original Cassell's but are so happy to highly recommend this little outpost. We will be back!!

Yelp
A quaint little hamburger spot inside a converted craftsman house. Tucked away in the middle of a neighborhood. Plenty of sitting area inside and outside in the garden. Lastly, the burgers are thick and juicy.

Yelp
Super rad experience and solid burgers. On top of the food being incredibly high quality, this spot is really great due to it being tucked away in a little village of houses converted into various dining establishments. Most definitely a hidden gem and worth a visit!
