Cast Iron Waffles

Love the location and the diversity of the staff and patrons! I’m not sure this place is wheelchair friendly it’s rather small and in a residential area so it has limited parking surrounding the block it’s on. We did not love the waffles. We were under the impression that they were made fresh. They were heated up and pile with toppings, but the waffle itself is extremely dense and a bit cold. They run about $7.25 apiece. I would definitely suggest starting with one to share to see if you like it before diving headfirst into the different options.

We had such high hopes for this adorable little corner spot! The concept is wonderful and both the exterior, and interior, were warm and inviting on a spring day filled with bird song. We love supporting small businesses and the great reviews pulled us in on a late Thursday morning. Unfortunately, the waffles, coffee, and service all fell well short of our expectations. While not busy, the two people working seemed overwhelmed. Our waffles came out 10 minutes apart from each other. They were cold and hard, pulled from a plastic case where they are stored. We had difficulty trying to cut into them with provided utensils. Bland and flavorless. Coffee from the urn was lukewarm. Wife’s specialty coffee arrived after we were done eating. Unfortunately, we did not eat most of the waffle(s) and the coffee was tossed. I think it’d be a wonderful spot had the waffles been made fresh, coffee served hot, and orders arrived together as is the standard in any eatery. Perhaps we’ll give it another go in the future.

I was really looking forward to trying Cast Iron Waffles, but unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming. We ordered the Blueberry Lemon waffle and the Lumberjack, and both left a lot to be desired. The waffles themselves were crazy sweet to the point that it overpowered any other flavor. On top of that, the ingredients tasted noticeably artificial, which was disappointing. The Lumberjack waffle came with cold, flavorless bacon, and both waffles were cold when they arrived at the table. The service was great though.

Cute little waffle and coffee shop in the area. The food was super cute as well. A bit too sweet for my liking but the waffles were so so good. You definitely need a knife to cute through them because they are thick! Make sure to ask for syrup if you wanna add it to your plate. Didn’t get to try the coffee but it smelled amazing. Parking on the side street appeared to be fine but there was no actual indicators about where to park.

From the moment we pulled up, we knew this place was going to be special. The outside is super cute, and as soon as we stepped in, we were hit with the amazing smell of fresh waffles and coffee. You can actually see the dough being made right from the register, which adds such a nice homemade touch. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting with soft music playing in the background. There was even a corner with kids’ books to keep little ones entertained, such a thoughtful detail! We ordered two waffles (blueberry lemon and a berry-topped one) and iced coffees, and everything was absolutely delicious. There were so many waffle options, it was hard to choose! Our order was ready super fast and brought right to our table. This place is a hidden gem in Charlotte. Can’t wait to come back!

We found coffee—real coffee! And it’s delicious! ☕The service isn’t exactly what we got spoiled with in Europe, but hey, they smiled and brought caffeine. We’re happy.

Such a beautiful shop in a beautiful and clean area. My waffle was more like a dessert or something that’ll go great with coffee. But service was excellent and waffle was tasty.

As someone who just got back from a trip to Belgium I can say these are legit. It's like I'm back in the streets of Brussels. The staff is super friendly and the coffee was great. Would recommend.

This place is a must! The food and drinks were amazing!! The most delicious waffle I've had and the coffee was excellent! The employees were friendly and polite and the food was ready quickly and with the PERFECT amount of whipped cream. Inviting and chill atmosphere. Can't wait to be back to try more! 10/10

If you're looking for a place to indulge your sweet tooth, Cast Iron Waffles is a must-visit spot! I visited last August with my family and had a lovely experience. We sat outside on a beautiful day and enjoyed the sun with our waffles. We ordered two of their deluxes, one with berries and cream, and a sticky bun deluxe. The waffles were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with just the right amount of sweetness. + a nice variety of toppings Friendly service from the staff, they made sure we had everything we needed and genuinely wanted to make our visit a good one. In short, if you're looking for a place to indulge in some great Belgian waffles, look no further than here.

Oh the most delicious carbs!! We love Cast Iron. All our neighbors received 6 for Xmas. They are light fluffy. Get a box, put in the freezer and easy to make as a dessert or breakfast. Service is always on point. I'm surprised they don't know us by name yet. They do by sight and I'm sure by name won't be far behind. If you haven't been to Cast Iron yet and have that craving for a waffle, there is no other place in the Charlotte area that can compare!

Hidden gem tucked into Marvin rd, Cast Iron waffles provides decadent gourmet waffles from friendly staff in a quiet neighborhood, with ample seating inside and out. These waffles are delicious and on the sweet side in most variations, so I paired a lumberjack which has a savory salty flavor thanks to the bacon with a coffee without any cream to balance it out. I tried the deluxe waffle as well and for me, it was a bit too sweet but I had no complaints from the family. The smoothies are also great, though a bit sugary. There are plenty of items, but given the nature your basically eating doughnuts for breakfast. I had one waffle and finished the second half of another that my child didn't want, and I'll say that was too much sugar for me. In the future I'll split a waffle and only have half. I walked around the peaceful neighborhood to burn off some extra energy. While anyone could easily eat an entire waffle alone, I'd be hard pressed to recommend it. Splitting one with a friend is definitely the way to go. There's plenty of seating inside and out, lined along the window so you get a sunny view, outside there are two nooks with tables that will keep you out of the wind and in full view of the sun, so even on a cold day you can enjoy the outdoors comfortably. The area is quiet and though the road is nearby the traffic is not noticeable. Overall it's a great area. Being in a neighborhood the parking in front is slim, but there is a parking lot across the road. Part of it is open parking and park has signs for towing, I didn't risk it (even on a Sunday) and figure it's best not to tempt, so pay attention to the signage. I loved visiting this small local business and will definitely be returning here regularly as a family treat.

Best waffles I've had in a long time! It's a small place, but if you're in the area, it's worth trying at least once. I had the Cinnamon Roll Waffle (Belgian waffle topped with vanilla buttercream and brown sugar/cinnamon mix, $5.75), which is one of their specialty waffles. It was incredibly fluffy, moist, sweet, and full of deliciousness. It did feel like being served from a food truck when it arrived in a small paper container rather than a plate (and the prices resemble that of a food truck too). Don't expect the whole restaurant experience - you order at the front, seat yourself, your food is brought to your table, and then you clean after yourself. But don't judge it solely by its simplicity; the waffles are pretty good!

Best place to go for waffles! They have the best toppings ! Bacon and Maple syrup. Or fruit and bananas and chocolate and whipped cream

This has to be my new favorite breakfast place. I work at the 9Round across the street and will come here on my lunch breaks now because the waffles are absolutely insane, extremely delicious, one of a kind, and absolutely amazing. Local, small business the so business owner is very present, her presence along side her staff are absolutely amazing, incredibly sweet people with intentions of you enjoying what you came for and that's the waffles. No crazy ambiance BUT, in this situation it's one of those breakfast cafes that really make you feel cozy. Such an amazing place, I will be here religiously.

Best waffles I have ever eaten. Hands down! No competition! My favorite is the peanut butter cup waffle. How can you go wrong with peanut butter and Nutella? The Deluxe is very good as well. Again, you have Nutella with strawberries and bananas. I can easily eat 2 waffles, so don't be afraid to order that extra one. They have very solid coffee too. I usually go with the iced macchiato.

I drove 45 mins to try and it did not disappoint delicious and not to sweet. Good coffee and great selection of coffee syrups, to customize your drink. Will definitely return

This place is so good! I got the mocha blended coffee and the Elvis waffle (PB and banana). It was amazing. It was easy to get to, in a beautiful neighborhood with street parking. It gave me Gilmore girls vibes. Will be returning if I'm ever back in Charlotte.

Found out about this place. My wife and I were looking for something different and this place was perfect. It's a small place. But the owner does these decadent waffles. Nice variety of choices. I had the lemon blueberry waffle and it had a lemon cream drizzle. It was pretty tasty. My wife had the lumberjack. That one is covered with crumbled bacon and a maple creme.

By far the best waffle I have ever had EVER!! I got a plain waffle and my boyfriend got a cinnamon roll. We agreed this place is amazing.

The waffles are always super good! I love the naked waffle and slowberry cobbler waffle. I have tried their iced latte and it was okay. Nonetheless, I highly recommend stopping here for a sweet breakfast treat! :)

This is a neat little place that's has pretty decent waffles at a good price and good coffee drinks. I would recommend on a weekend morning

We tried cast iron a few days ago and were blown away! My husband and I loved the ambiance as well as the girl working. The waffles were so fun and filling, and the coffee was delicious! There are plenty of options and it's all reasonably priced!

Oh my goodness! This place is just the sweetest. Very friendly staff, customers were also incredibly nice to each other. (We love to see that) I ordered the peanut buttercup deluxe waffle and it was delicious. If you've got a sweet tooth, this is definitely for you! My kids and husband both enjoyed the cinnamon roll waffle which was also perfection! 10/10 recommend The Cast Iron Waffle.

Sweet, inexpensive. Local as it gets. I live around the corner and I am not a coffee drinker or a fan of waffles, yet I still find myself here at least once a month. It's so awesome local and authentic. It is great! Waffles are delicious, but they are as much of a dessert as a meal. Enjoy!

Everyone NEEDS to come here !! They aren't lying when they say "best waffle you've ever had". These are candied waffles , no syrup served & it is NOT needed. These are perfectly crafted I wish I could have some everyday. We are so happy we took the time to have breakfast here. The coffee is great too , very pleased!

I gotta give these guys a 5 start review. When I call ahead, they have my order ready upon arrival. I have gone here in the morning and had to wait for the waffle iron to heat up, but that's no biggie. Better that than an under prepared waffle. The food is tasty and I sometimes like to get a chai tea which is also good. Right now, my fave is the lumberjack, not sure when I will switch it up. The employees are all young, but good workers. Items are priced fair as well. Stop by and tell them "Gene" sent you.....just for fun because it won't get either of us anything, but it will probably confuse the employees.

I'm sorry but I really wanted to embrace this place. Especially since my wife and I toured Belgium last year and ate copious amounts of waffles. This is a cute spot. Here's my beef; I walked in yesterday and there were 3 patrons enjoying their afternoon. The counter gal was great at explaining the choices. I opted for the mixed fruit waffle. She proceeded to take a premade waffle out of a holding bin on the counter. Since it was about 2:00 PM I'm guessing that they were made that morning, maybe. Inexcusable in my opinion.

We stopped here for a quick breakfast after visiting friends in Charlotte and it was awesome. From the minute we walked in, it was such a welcoming and pleasant experience. The food was great- we had the naked waffles with powdered sugar (didn't need any extra syrup. It was soft and crisp in all the right places and it tasted like there was some caramelization on certain places on the waffle) and the lemon blueberry waffle (the whipped cream, blueberries, custard? So so delicious). There was an issue with our drinks, but they resolved it quickly and didn't make us feel bad about it. Highly recommend this cozy spot - it was just what us and kids (did I mention that it was kid friendly?) needed before we hit the road again. We will definitely be back when we visit Charlotte again! I love the local feel of this place located on the corner of a very walkable neighborhood. Excellent seating outside as well as inside. These waffles are a sweeter hand held concoction that are heavier than traditional waffles. No syrup necessary although I did enjoy adding fruit to mine. Very good food and coffee and would highly recommend you give it a try.

Easily some of the best waffles in Charlotte. Pleasant staff. Quick service. My wife ordered a blended latte and loved it. My vanilla latte was okay, but not great.

OMG!!!! Get here when you can. I was in the area strangely to pick up some shrimp from a local fishmonger (which were amazing btw). So, I stopped here for a coffee and breakfast snack. The waffle was hot, not too sweet, and just hands down amazing. Great ambiance inside and the staff was uber helpful.

The best waffle I've had in Charlotte, no 'maybe' or 'probably' needed, just a freaky good waffle! I normally trek the North side of the QC but today I had a co-worker in need of help in Ballantyne. Afterwards, both starving and half-lost, I decided to fire up the ol' Yelp Search for a quick bite to eat. Thus, here I find myself at Cast Iron! Its a cute, warm coffee bar that serves waffles, waffles, and more waffles. They have 'speciality' waffles, 'DELUXE' waffles, plain waffles, and even frozen waffles to take home. How could they be any better than your average hotel continental breakfast? These are Liege-Style Belgian waffles. Made with more of a dough than a batter, and mixed with a coarse sugar that contributes to the unique texture, these are a true delight if you've never had one. You're probably going to think that the waffle is small at first, but I'd say that one Liege waffle is equivalent to 2 regular ones. Today I got the berries & cream waffle that's Topped with strawberries, blueberries, and fresh whipped cream. First off the waffle, somehow chewy and airy at the same time. Just the right amount of bite and the coarse sugar I mentioned gives the denser body a nice contrast. They don't sweeten the whipped cream (or if they do it's very little) which works great with the sweeter waffle, and of course the fruit contributes to the sugar content anyway. It was just a splendid and filling breakfast in such a compact dish! Their iced coffee is great as well. I'm starting to get more and more accustomed to no sugar with my coffee and their custom blend is perfect for this. I did add a splash of half and half only to cut the sharper notes a bit, but I would drink it black if offered! A bit surprised that they don't have bacon or eggs here, but as I said, the waffle alone is very filling. I still think it would make a good addition for a more complete breakfast destination. The staff is pleasant and know their menu very well, as I heard them patiently explaining the menu to another customer who was undecided. Next time I'm in the mood for outstanding waffles, I won't hesitate to drive down here!

I'm a sucker for cute breakfast places and Cast Iron Waffles now has my heart. The service is extra friendly and the waffles are soooo good! They have a variety of coffee and waffle options to choose from so choose wisely. My husband and I chose the Elvis, Oreo, and one with Peanutbutter and Nutella. We obviously like pb. All three were delicious but the Oreo and Nutella I would only recommend to those with a sweet tooth. The Icing on the Oreo is fire! The Elvis was everything I hoped it would be. Loved visiting this tiny place packed with deliciousness.

Cast Iron Waffles are greater than life. They are slightly crispy and chewy with crunchy little pieces of sugar embedded inside. Of course you could enjoy eating them plain but if you have the option of adding nutella, strawberries, bananas, whipped cream, and powdered sugar on top then obviously you kinda have to. (Just get the Deluxe waffle.) Plus strawberries and bananas are fruit which helps you justify eating 100000 calories in sugar. Small, but def super filling. The coffee is eh but this is a waffle place after all.

Very intimate, cafe style waffle & coffee shop in Ballantyne area that serves some delicious waffles. The Lumberjack was a maple & BACON topped Belgium waffle which was delicious. I'd recommend trying the waffles out. The price was inexpensive and cup of Joe was on point. Downside: This waffle which can be a little difficult to slice into under normal circumstances should not be served on a plastic saucer with plastic knife & fork. Totally confused. But hey everything can't be perfect in the world of cheap waffles & coffee. I'd still go back and enjoy another waffle!

This would have been a five star review except for the mediocre experiences I've had here the past few times I've come. The waffles are now inconsistent with big pieces of sugar still not mixed in and the waffles are now more likely to be served from a drawer, rather than straight from the waffle iron, even when there is not a crowd. Toppings are tasty, the tea selection is fun, but seating is limited and I'm not interested in picking huge sugar clumps out of my waffle when I eat it. I wish my experiences were consistent and I keep coming back in hopes things will get better again, but they haven't.

I'm always looking for a great breakfast or brunch spot to check out in and around the Charlotte area. Well, today I visited the best homemade waffle spot near my house and I'm looking forward to going back!

We have been coming here for many years and we tell EVERYONE about CIW. Sadly things have changed and out last 3 visits have just been meh. Today we decided to try it again and again the waffles seem raw or undercooked in the center. I personally was unable to finish mine. Something has also changed with the waffle. We've asked, but always get that things are the same, but something just seems off. We are sad, but I don't think we will return.

The server was very nice, the waffles are AMAZING, and the atmosphere is so welcoming.

Sorry but I really wanted to love this place but its waffles are loaded with super sweet icing. Had the cinnamon one n I couldn't eat 3/4 of it since it was too too sweet even with me trying to scrape the icing off since it went into the squares of the waffle. What happened to whipped cream? This place would hv more customers if they served waffles with whipped cream instead of icing. Even my best friend's waffle was too sweet for her n she loves sweet. Time to rethink your waffle strategy, Mr Owner.

I think I may have caught them on a not so stellar day. I came here with my hubby on a cool winter day, excited about some warm and delicious waffles to set our taste buds a flutter. We ordered our waffles and sat and waited for the liege lusciousness to begin. I got the one with bacon on it, the Lumberjack, because everything is better with bacon and hubby got the peanut butter cup waffle. They were brought to our table, we took a few bites and meh!! They were cold, a bit hard and a bit on the overly sweet side. We finished them but were both a tad bit disappointed. We will definitely give them another try and just ask that they make us fresh ones and not ones reheated from the case. There is a huge difference between a liege waffle hot off the cast iron waffle "press" and one sitting around and getting reheated. If you have had the former, you will understand while the latter doesn't hold up. The atmosphere was kind of cold but maybe it was just because of the weather outside. Doesn't strike me as a place where someone sets up shop and tries to stay all day. The person working was nice and friendly and seemed to enjoy being there. There are many drink options as well but I passed on getting a coffee because I had just finished one at home. Maybe next time. I will give this place another shot for sure and try a drink, a fresh waffle and something with little to no glaze to overpower the waffle. I have a feeling that might add a star or two but based on atmosphere, taste and quality for my visit, I give it a solid three.

Amazing waffles with a variety of toppings. They also have excellent coffee. We stop in regularly and have always had a positive experience.

Stopped in for the first time this morning for a couple hours while my wife had a medical appointment nearby. Coffee was delicious, staff super friendly and the waffles PHENOMENAL! Highly recommend this place.

Great atmosphere with good chill music in the background. Came with Holly on Sunday morning before COT. I needed to refuel after a wild night... The waffles were just what I needed. Delicious! Really fun and friendly staff.

I haven't heard many good things about this place. For one, the managers and specifically the owner (Krista Duggan) are nothing shy of extremely rude and condescending. I hoped for a better experience myself, but was unpleased by my service. My friend has a severe dairy allergy and was served a drink including dairy, when asked to fix this, they did not bother to help. Don't waste your time here.
