We got married at Castaway in September of 2023 and we LOVED having our wedding here. It was actually the only venue we toured because we thought it was perfect the moment we saw it. The space is minimal and industrial which is what we liked. The plants provided by the venue bring the space to life so well. Honestly, you need minimal decorations for it to be wedding ready. Having the outdoor space for cocktail hour, food trucks, beer pong, etc. was incredible. We had about 175 guests, so we really enjoyed the flow and space for our guests to get fresh air if needed. The Castaway team was helpful, responsive, and so great to work with! Highly recommend for weddings, events, etc. Thank you Castaway team!

We had a wonderful experience at this venue for the Venue Crawl. The team was super helpful and accomidating. We're looking forward to working together with them on future events.

Absolutely spectacular venue - great vibe, location, and plenty of room! Love the details and windows, and the nice spacious green room/bridal suite. Highly recommended

We had our wedding at Castaway! It was the perfect venue for us with many people coming from out of town. It was easy to get to and an absolutely beautiful space. We loved that we could add many of our own touches as well! Our guests appreciated that they could mingle both inside and outside during different parts of the reception. The team at Castaway was very responsive when we emailed them or had questions. We highly recommend Castaway!

Love this modern, city wedding venue! As a wedding photographer, I always love shooting at this location - it has a variety of unique settings and creative urban backdrops!

We booked Castaway while living abroad and Emily did a fantastic job painting a picture for us over FaceTime. Our experience was everything you would want from a venue; organized, attention to detail, and great communication. We had our rehearsal dinner at Blockhouse and would highly recommend doing the same. Being able to work with Emily on both spaces made this incredibly easy and we wouldn't change one thing!

These folks really understand events. If you haven't been to their venue yet, you should. There's a pay to park lot to the east if you cannot find street parking.

Yelp
Good open event space. Came here for an Adidas event. They had food trucks in the back and plenty of space on the inside for art exhibits.

Yelp
Castaway was the first venue we toured when looking for wedding venues, and it was love at first sight. We loved the openness and the ability to make the space our own and the large windows that let in lots of natural light. The back patio was the cherry on top as we were looking for an indoor/outdoor venue. We worked with Paige as we were planning our wedding, and she made wedding planning easy for us. At our first meeting, she was able to whip up a floor plan as we were talking and even altered it several times for us leading up to the wedding. She was such a pleasure and joy to work with and made the day seamless. The best part of Castaway - the outdoor space was the perfect place to surprise our guests with the Wedding Llamas! The blue wall is the perfect backdrop and we couldn't have imagined a more perfect wedding at Castaway.

Yelp
We attended an event at the Castaway venue sponsored by Friends of Columbia River Gorge. I am guessing there were about 300 or more persons interested in the presentation "Preserving the Wonder" discussion about acquisition of properties to ensure the Gorge is a contiguous preserved natural lands and open space for public recreation, enjoyment and appreciation. Castaway is a large space / building for private events on Thurmond and 18th near the river. There was an open bar set up and food delights pouring out of a kitchen in the back. Great event! Great venue! The building was erected in 1929 and primarily used to make parts for the Streetcar line. It is restored: features 14' foot ceilings, huge wood ceiling beams, steel windows and a patio. Good acoustics, ceiling lighting and large screens for presentations helped get the message across by the Columbia River Gorge presenters. Go ahead visit https://gorgefriends.org and see how to become a member or go on a free hike or contribute to "Preserve the Wonder" an ambitious land conservation effort to acquire and protect 7 unique properties, 400 acres, along the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge.

Yelp
What a fantastic event space. I loved the large open room & the set up was great. Our company rented this space for a large company event & it was perfect. I'm not sure if the people that were working the event - servers & bar staff are a part of the venue or were from catering but everyone was excellent. This is a versatile venue that would be great for any number of events. There seemed to be ample parking around & the area wasn't busy and I felt safe.

Yelp
This was the first time I've been to this venue. It was a wine tasting event for Columbia Gorge wines. Located in the Alphabet District with a nice view of the Fremont bridge. I rate it a four for size of space, location, and ease of parking. The space was a good size for many types of events and can be very creative with design. It can open to outdoors and additional area needed. I was able to find the location pretty easily and enough street parking close by. What I liked was the fact I didn't have to pay for parking. Was at the Armory earlier in the week for a different event and had a harder time finding parking. Had to park further away driving around a couple times and paid. I would recommend and go back to the Castaway. It has a good vibe and openness.

Yelp
From all indications, Castaway is simply an event space. But it's a very nice one. I went here for the yelp event to celebrate my eliteness with other elite yelpers. The neigborhood is so so industrial - and the end of the road (literally). As I was looking for the street number I thought I must have screwed up because the road in front of me was about to end. But there it was! The line of Yelpers outside was a dead giveaway. So I found parking a block and a half away - but it doesn't seem like it would be that plentiful for an event. There was also a gaggle of homeless folks congregating a couple blocks away. The space itself is beautiful - look at the website! I imagine you could do a lot with it. Wood beams, very high ceilings with big windows. There's a wide doorway that leads outside. Outside is a beautiful view of the bridge (and yes, I forget which one). But it's really a small parking lot overlooking a somewhat skeevy looking part of town and fenced in by super high metal fencing - so would you rather see or not? Tough call. I kind of wish this place was simply a cool club! And I have no idea how pricy (pardon me, "spendy") it is to rent the space. But without knowing that, I would give the space itself very high marks, the surroundings maybe a 3.

Yelp
I recently attended a wedding reception there. I was impressed overall. The room had plenty of space to eat, drink and dance. It could easily hold 200 plus people. I would recommend this place for a wedding reception or any social gatherings.

Yelp
We had our school auction at Castaway in February. The team was amazing, so helpful and accommodating. The space was beautiful, we didn't need to have any decorations; it stands on its own. The only down side is due to the openness the audio is hard. It got really loud unless everyone was completely quiet during the show.

Kemi A.

Yelp
My company held their holiday party here. It was my first time at the venue and I have to say I was impressed. It's very spacious and could easily fit around 500 people. The staff were on point and helped us with food and drink. They were upbeat, friendly, and helped keep our lively bunch satisfied. We had our own DJ and the dance floor is big enough to get your groove on. Furniture was a mix of couches, banquet tables, chairs, and bar tables. Throughout the evening, everyone was having a great time. I highly recommend this place for your next event.

Yelp
We are so happy that we picked Castaway for our wedding ceremony and reception. The space is open and adjustable so you can really make it your own. Plus the location is awesome - our guests could walk from their hotels to the venue. The Castaway staff were great and made the entire process really smooth, easy and low stress.

Yelp
I was the day-of wedding coordinator for a wedding recently hosted at Castaway. Not only did this space beautifully transform into exactly what we needed, the staff was courteous, professional, and helpful. In my work, I've been to a lot of venues and I count Castaway among the best.

Amanda K.

Yelp
Four stars for the magnificent view of the Fremont Bridge from the back of this venue! Simply amazing. This space is pretty cool. I'm biased and I think everything in NW Industrial neighborhood is automatically cool, but this place has got it. Low lights, ping pong table, and the tequila tasting event that we dropped into was well organized and full of warm, friendly, tequila-soaked people. My kind of party! The only thing they need is CHAIRS. COUCHES. LOUNGERS. Something for people to relax on! We actually left the event early because I'd been at work wearing heels all day, and I just couldn't hack it. Had I had a place to sit down, I would've chilled for a bit longer.

Yelp
Probably one of the best venues for hosting a corporate meeting/event near the Pearl District. Even thought it was built in the late 1920's to the early 1930's, it's very modern, chic, and stylish inside. Interior is posh, architecture/exterior is outdated. The staff tells you it fits 400, but the parking says OTHERWISE. But nontheless, the capacity at the venue can fit 400. 10,000 sq. feet that's open space. PERFECT for meetings and fundraising events. Not so much a wedding venue, but a great location for holding a meeting or a fundraiser. The floors are polished concrete. So it's not exotic hardwood-(Darn.) or the old-school, tacky linoleum- (THANK GOODNESS!) But best of all, is the technology renovations they added! Retractable, nearly 10 foot projection screen for all of your needs! They have an MP3 dock, but it was no use for me. These days, no one has an MP3. iPod Touch, seriously you guys. Good thing I brought my own iPod dock! But like the other reviewer said, you have to make an appointment if you're interested. But other than that, the place is very up-to-date for anything you need in a venue!

Yelp
I went to an Olmeca Altos Tequila event a few weeks ago through a YELP invitation (YELP was not a sponsor but got us Eliter's on the list). Upon walking in the door, you got free t-shirts, sunglasses, terrycloth wrist bands, shot glasses, mardi gras beads and glow sticks. You also got drinks made with Olmeca Altos Tequila. there were 4 stations in all, making 4 different drinks. The room was gigantic and had room for 2 ping pong tables in one corner, 4 bar set-up's, a DJ booth a stage for photos and an area in the middle large enough for a bar-tending competition. I only saw a men's and women's restroom, but there was never a line so there must have been other restrooms somewhere in the vicinity. They have a huge fenced in courtyard to the right (large enough for a food cart and tons of seating). They also had an outdoor area directly in the back. Basically, spacious enough for a large wedding reception of corporate event. Parking in the area is free, which is always a good thing. I don't know about rental pricing, but if you are looking for somewhere to hold few hundred people, it's be worth looking into.

Yelp
I recently had my wedding at Castaway and I can't recommend it enough. The venue is such a convenient location and has the option to rent parking spaces at a nearby lot if you think your guests need it. Their list of recommended vendors was great, I ended up using a caterer and photographer off their list. The flow of the wedding was PERFECT. There was no awkward pile up getting in/out of the ceremony or cocktail hour, and we had 225 guests. We ended up tenting the courtyard due to weather, and even though it ended up not raining, I think the tent really added to the cocktail hour and made it cozy. We even got lights to hang around the edge. Overall, it was as perfect night and a perfect location and I can't wait to get all the pictures back to relive it!

Yelp
July 27th we attended a wonderful family wedding at the Castaway. Of course seeing the bride and groom happy was the best part of the evening. The Castaway has high ceilings and in one large room there was a string quartet before the actual ceremony. The Castaway was spacious yet cozy and perfect in every way. The staff was considerate, helpful and delightful. Following the ceremony we enjoyed listening to Nicole McCabe and the jazz trio on the outside patio. Even the parking was convenient. Delightful! I did not know anything about this place until the wedding and it was perfect.

Yelp
Working with Castaway was an absolute pleasure. We chose Castaway for our wedding venue a little less than a year before our recent July 15, 2017 wedding. Emily, who we worked with closely, was extremely responsive and helpful. We really feel she went above and beyond in terms of answering questions and making herself and the space available to us at anytime. We utilized the new space, Block House, for our pre-wedding family and wedding party photos/hang out area. It was beautiful with a really pretty outdoor patio space. It also has a beautiful entrance between Pomarius Nursery and Versailles Gardens. Our ceremony and cocktail hour were hosted in the 'back parking lot' which was completley transformed into a beautiful and spacious area. Our party moved inside for dinner and dancing, then back outside where our dessert food trucks pulled into the parking lot area. We ended the night back inside with a lot more dancing and late night activities. The inside of Castaway has a very industrial feel, but the space is open to create whatever you want. We loved that the openness and simplicity of the design allowed us to really dream up our wedding. Emily consistently guided us in the right direction and made sure that our ideas were in line with what she has seen work well. We will forever recommend Castaway and working with Emily/Sara on your event.

Yelp
In scouting venues, Castaway was our top choice based on what we saw online in photos, and when we saw it in person, we knew it would be the perfect setting for our wedding. We were flexible on the date and took our 2nd choice date in order to book the venue. The space has a ton of character with the paned windows, exposed beams, and string lights. Because we wanted a simple, romantic look, the additional décor that we needed to bring in was minimal. The space was a great size for our group, which ended up being just around 100 - we were able to have both the ceremony and reception setup in advance so that there was no need to flip the space and our guests were able to immediately move from one side of the room to the other for our cocktail hour. They have a preferred caterer list that you will need to choose from, otherwise you would have to pay an outside catering fee. They can recommend which caterers on the list may work based on your budget. The green room was a good size and comfortable space for our wedding party to get ready. Tables and chairs were included, which made our rental needs very simple and minimal. There is pretty open street parking around the venue for guests (you can rent a nearby lot if needed, but we didn't need to) and we appreciated the small lot in the back patio area for our wedding party and family. Paige was very knowledgeable and ready with recommendations for us (especially regarding catering and floor plan), and responsive and available for questions. Early on, I had one conference call with her, we had an in person meeting, and she was onsite all afternoon to coordinate vendor setup along with our outside day-of coordinator. Because our wedding was in the low season (March 2019), the price point was a great fit with our budget. We had a wonderful time and would recommend Castaway as a beautiful, unique venue with a lot of character and charm!

Yelp
We loved having our August 2016 wedding reception at Castaway! The staff was so helpful to us every step of the way. We mostly worked with Emily and she was a dream. She was super responsive, very helpful in communicating with the caterer when I ran into major frustrations with them and proactive in informing us of any changes in the venue. There was some construction going on at a property adjacent to Castaway and Emily was great about letting us know well in advance so that we could make some changes to the layout of how/where we wanted our cocktail hour on the patio. Emily was super flexible about allowing us to do walk-throughs with my parents, my husband's parents, the caterer and our wedding coordinator on separate occasions. Why we chose Castaway: We were looking for a city venue that was handicap accessible and provided an indoor-outdoor option. We wanted to make sure that our guests didn't have to drive or be transported too far from hotels or the church where we were married (St. Andrew's at NE 8th and Alberta). We also have several family members in wheelchairs and it was important to us that they feel comfortable and not burdened with trying to navigate across lawn, gravel, etc. I really wanted our guests to be able to be outside on a beautiful Oregon summer night - the patio space allowed guests to enjoy the beautiful 80 degree weather. But we also knew that summer weather has been really unpredictable recently (crazy heat, rain, etc) and it gave us such peace of mind to know that our guests would be totally fine indoors if need be. The big beautiful windows still make you feel close to the outdoors! Many of the venues we looked at in the Portland area don't have AC and we felt like this was a must if we were asking my husband's 96 year old grandparents to come endure what could have been unbearably hot weather. Even in the 80 degree weather, many elderly guests went inside early to find their spot for dinner which was a great option for them. We had our cocktail hour on the patio in Versailles and dinner and dancing inside. I love the character of the space - the exposed beams, the beautiful old windows, the cement floor. The fact that the whole indoor space was open made it feel like there was plenty of room for our 260 guests to be seated or at the bar, at the buffet or mingling. I also loved that the space was a blank canvas for us to be able to add whatever color and décor details we wanted. At one point I looked up from the dance floor and just thought "everything looks so beautiful!" -- from the market lights hanging from the beams to the way the table linens, flowers and people added warmth and personality. We had about 20 kids at our wedding and it was fun for them to be able to go in and out from the patio to the indoor space. It was also nice for me to step outside and take a break from dancing to hang out with people after dinner. I had many friends plan weddings on outdoor property where everything had to be brought in - bathrooms, tents, tables, chairs, bar, etc. They ended up spending so much more money than we did because so much was included in the Castaway package. As much as its tempting to try have a wedding in the most picturesque view of Oregon's forests, mountains or other natural beauty, its often so impractical. In deciding to have a city wedding, we wanted something that still showed something of Portland, felt unfussy but elegant and provided a comfortable space for guests. Castaway was all of that for us! All in all, we felt very well taken care of and loved our experience working with Castaway!

Heather J.

Yelp
Really nice event space. I was fortunate enough to come here last night for an event (thanks yelp elite!), and thought it was really great. Tucked away in the NW Industrial area, the twinkling lights inside the building leading out to a patio space with an amazing view of the Fremont bridge and the setting sun made for a perfect and beautiful Portland evening.

Laura K.

Yelp
I got married at Castaway on July 6th and it was wonderful. Casey and the entire staff were so friendly, personal and helpful leading up to the wedding day and after. We had the ceremony in Versailles Gardens and the reception in Castaway, and it worked out great. The space is always improving - from the new bar area to the lighting, etc. Overall, the space was magical from sundown to midnight - great for mingling, eating, and plenty of dancing. Highly recommended!

Nikee W.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful event space! One of those "Hey why didn't we get married here?" kind of patios, and plenty of space inside. It's tucked away under a big beautiful bridge and adorned with that beautiful modern-industrial sort of look us Portlanders find so endearing. It even has a place to park a few of our beloved food carts! What more could you want in a venue?

Marissa P.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by Castaway as a venue. Recently, attended a party here and I was impressed by the space, Big open venue with plenty of room for just about any occasion. For this party they converted part of the parking lot into a mini Food Truck Pod. Which worked for this event, the outdoor space isn't very exciting but does have nice view of the Freemont Bridge. While I can't speak to working with the venue, I would definitely say this space is worth checking out. It doesn't look like much from the outside but had a nice feel inside with plenty of space for a dance floor or presentations. There is a parking lot for this venue and plenty of street parking.
