Castel Fragsburg’s Spellbinding Allure

"Built in 1624, Castel Fragsburg was originally used as a hunting lodge for local lords. That still holds true today, however, 330 years after its founding, new owners the Ortner family reimagined the spot as a unique destination and escape rooted in the real, but with a dusting of fairy-tale like magic." - Kevin Chau

Excellent visit from Mon- Fri, a luxury location. Stayed in a Jr Suite with breathtaking view of the mountains and the valley. Huge windows and a porch were perfect. Breakfast was exceptional each day. Small touches of treats left at turn down - some sweets, dried flowers- were lovely. Beautiful pool area and grounds. Gardens amazing. It’s worth doing the 20 minute hike to the waterfall. A very serene location with attentive staff. Highly recommend.

Location is stunning, perched on a mountaintop above Merano. Facilities are outstanding. Great suite, restaurant, staff, and peacefulness. Would return in a heartbeat. Staff were wonderful-friendly, helpful and resourceful. Pool was marvelous

The most magical experience! We booked a 3 day romance package for our elopement and it did not disappoint. Walking in and getting offered an appertivo on the terrace, the view literally brought tears to my eyes. We had half board with 5 course meals every night and the best breakfast with cappuccinos every morning. The staff was absolutely incredible and made us feel right at home ( even as Americans ) For our wedding, we walked to the waterfall nearby and said our vows, then headed to the Castle courtyard for the most unbelievable picnic where we had the castle to ourselves. They had no problem with us bringing a photographer and were just the most supportive of our intimate elopement getaway. I added a bouquet to our room for $60 and omg it was more than I could have ever wanted for my wedding bouquet. Seriously everything was above and beyond. I wouldn’t have done it any other way! Our package also included and incredible couples massage in the treehouse massage room! (How am I ever going to get another massage without the south tyrolean breeze on my skin!??) It was sad to leave this place and I hope to come back someday!

A place where you can breath again. A magnificent terrace overlooking the valley will be the best place to unwind and enjoy a delicious breakfast (try the fruit, it's just out of this world!).

We recently visited Castel Fragsbyrg for our honeymoon, enjoying the romantic package which included: champagne on arrival, half board and a couples massage. The hotel is beautiful, it really did have a magical feel to it. The location was perfect for us, we particularly enjoyed the privacy of being up in the hills. The staff were attentive and friendly. The evening food was absolutely Michelin quality, we were very impressed with the menu which changed each night. Our room was elegantly designed, however the only small issue we experienced was that there was no tea and coffee facility in the room, so we had to ask for tea and coffee at the restaurant and then take it to our room at an extra cost. We explored the grounds, including e-biking, the nearby waterfall and the medieval castle—all of which we would highly recommend. Also, the spa treatment was fantastic, we would highly recommend.

Castel Fragsburg is a magical hotel and spa, situated high up in the SudTyrol Alpes, above Merano. It is like stepping back in time to a place of impeccable service, a professional staff who work tirelessly to make sure every detail of your stay is perfect. We arrived to a welcoming aperitif being served to us on the Dining Deck overlooking the town and out to the Alpes. Next we enjoyed a once in a lifetime private wine and spirit tasting and tour of the castle above the hotel. Fabio and Samuel hosted us for the tour of the castle and then led us to a castle room where all the wines and spirits were set up, with two wonderful chairs for my friend and I to sit in while experiencing the tasting. A charcuterie platter was also presented. I heartily suggest that you arrange for the Tasting and Tour prior to your arrival at the hotel! Every aspect of our visit to Castel Fragsburg, the Micheline Star dining, the talents of Samuel's mixology, the elegant room, the incredible spa (Angela game me the best massage I have every had!) and the natural scenic glory of where this resort is located.... all was perfect!!!

In my opinion, this is not a 5-star hotel. ||||I have wanted to visit this property for years and was really excited and looking forward to my stay. Unfortunately, I found it overall pretty disappointing. The room was very different from what I saw on the booking/website. I understand not all rooms are the same or decorated the same, but it was drastically different in style and touch and sophistication than what was shown - had I been shown pictures of the room I had I don’t think I would have booked this hotel. ||||The property is beautiful with an outstanding view (truly a jaw dropper), but it’s also in need of some real TLC. The pool was old and outdated, the bathroom linens were sparse, the grounds were beautiful but also clearly needed some care and attention. The bathroom and room felt old - not in a charming way but in a totally outdated way. ||||I had a lot of issues with the internet and needed to work while I was there, so at one point was sitting on the floor near the door to get a signal. I had to ask multiple times for the wifi to be checked before it was updated in my room. ||||Upon check in I had some minor issues with service. Nothing was horrible and the hotel is extremely charming and sweet. But in my opinion this is a 3.5/4 star hotel, not a 5 star hotel. ||||I had plans to do a spa day, and decided against it because based on the experience I felt like it would just be disappointing. ||||What was good — the bed (great linens and very comfortable), the view, the restaurant and the restaurant service, the breakfast buffet, the lounge/restaurant decor. ||||I know this hotel is family-run and I feel bad leaving a mediocre review, but I do think it’s important for potential guests to know. I chose this hotel against some other newer options in the region (Forestis in particular) and I just found the overall stay to be really disappointing and below average for a 5-star hotel.

This was our fourth visit since August of 2021and once again is amazing. Let's start with breakfast. Every possible fresh fruit from raspberries to figs all were terrific. Wonderful breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, etc. The staff is incredible from the front desk to the dining room to housekeeping. The pool is very nice although it would be better to have the whirlpool a bit hotter. The spa is the best anywhere. I had the best massage ever and the beauty treatments my wife had were great too. We will be ordering the house made creams and oils. The Michelin one star dinner was also fantastic. The one very minor shortcoming is the variety of options for lunch and dinner when not dining at the Michelin star restaurant. The is as close to perfection as we have seen and the best place to relax. Not to mention the setting and all there is to do in the South Tirol.

Yelp
This is one of the best hotels to stay in if you're traveling through Italy. It has a very quiet location if you're looking to get away from any city noise. It has a spa and pool area that is the most beautiful oasis ready to provide rest and relaxation.

Yelp
My husband and I were lucky enough to celebrate our first wedding anniversary at Castel Fragsburg, and boy I wish we hadn't - now my expectations for anniversaries are so high I don't think we'll ever find another place that compares! We can't say enough good things about our stay at Castel Fragsburg. The moment we checked in, we were invited for a welcome cocktail and snack on the patio overlooking the gorgeous Merano valley. We were then led to our beautiful, tranquil room where a little homemade treat from the spa was awaiting us. We had an amazing dinner in the restaurant. Michelin taste and presentation with none of the pretentiousness. But the real star was the breakfast - O. M. G. I have never seen a more beautiful breakfast spread in my life. I would've stayed in there all day trying everything if I could have. To burn off all of the delicious food, we explored Merano and went on a hike to a waterfall right behind the hotel - recommended to us by the great receptionist. We also spent a lot of time in the spectacular gardens at Castel Fragsburg. We were lucky enough to visit when all the roses were in bloom and it was spectacular. Next time, I'll be sure to bring my swimsuit to enjoy the heated pool. Overall, an amazing experience. We can't wait to get back!

Yelp
I wish I had something exceedingly witty and clever to say about Castel Fragsburg, but all I can manage is a bit of drool on my keyboard. The Michelin-starred restaurant is to blame. Fresh, creative food with a most spectacular view at every meal. If you're not staying at the hotel, at least stop here for lunch. For those looking to kill time between feedings at the restaurant, Castel Fragsburg offers a fabulous assortment of options for guests - lounging by the pool, getting a massage in the spa, a leisurely stroll to a nearby waterfall. Or you could just simply sit on the balcony in your room and stare at the view some more.
