Castello La Leccia, a Design Boutique Hotel Castellina in Chianti, Italy

"Castello La Leccia is a restored mediaeval hamlet, featuring an 11th-century castle, an outdoor swimming pool, and free Wi-Fi. The property is set on a hill, and offers a terrace with views of the Tuscan countryside. Castellina in Chianti is 2 km away. Accommodation at La Leccia comes with a unique design and handmade furniture. Some rooms boast original stuccoes and four-poster beds. The restaurant serves traditional dishes of Tuscany, along with great local wines. Breakfast buffet includes homemade cakes. The property organises tastings of its own wine and olive oil. Castello La Leccia is at the end of an unpaved road off the SP51 road. The bus stop to San Gimignano and Siena is 3 km away. Parking is free." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Castello La Leccia (Castellina in Chianti, Tuscany) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The view might be the most impressive thing about Castello la Leccia; from this Tuscan castle’s hilltop perch you can see as far as San Gimignano and Siena, looking out over countless wine estates, starting with the hotel’s own organic vineyard. The medieval-era castle and its outbuildings contain a mere 12 rooms, whose interiors are as contemporary as the exteriors are classic. The estate produces not only wine but olive oil as well, and in addition to an outdoor pool with a panoramic view there’s a “zero-kilometer” Tuscan restaurant with a relaxed yet refined atmosphere." - Tablet Hotels

Our experience at Castello La Leccia was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we were completely captivated by the stunning views of the Tuscan countryside — endless rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves that looked like something out of a painting. The service was impeccable — warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about creating a memorable experience. Every interaction felt personal and sincere, from the welcome at check-in to the thoughtful touches throughout our stay. The food and wine were simply outstanding. Each dish was beautifully prepared, highlighting the best of local ingredients and traditional Tuscan flavors, perfectly complemented by their incredible estate wines. Every meal felt like a celebration of the region. It’s rare to find a place that combines such elegance, authenticity, and heart, but Castello La Leccia does it effortlessly. The attention to detail, the breathtaking setting, and the overall sense of tranquility made this one of the most unforgettable experiences we’ve ever had. I truly cannot recommend Castello La Leccia highly enough — it’s a destination that captures the very best of Tuscany in every possible way.

Everything was amazing at this stay, when you arrive you meet a warm and genuine staff, making interactions feel personal and relaxed.|The scenery is better than the photos show online, especially if you are lucky enough to watch sunrise or sunsets there. |The room we had was amazing and luxurious. With a small door to our own terrace we could enjoy a morning coffee from the rooms own coffee machine which gets refilled every day. |We can also recommend trying the wine tasting and cooking class there. Both experiences gives you the feeling of the passion they have for their culture and products they make.

I’ve never written a review so enthusiastically. The stay at Castello La Leccia was so special. The service and dining was impeccable. I’d come back here in a heartbeat. The most relaxed and at ease I have ever felt. A special thanks to Sara who was truly the sweetest member of staff, to Cesare who ensured our glasses were always full, to the two cats for making sure we were unconditionally loved, and to the Tuscan hills for never disappointing.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles, great coffee, and a sense of calm luxury. The views from the property are breathtaking, and the castle itself is beautifully maintained. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always making you feel at home. The on-site restaurant is excellent, with delicious food and a talented chef, Giulio. We took a cooking class with him, and it was such a highlight not only is he skilled, but also kind and passionate about what he does. We also had an amazing massage during our stay, and the wine tour offered at the property was one of the best we experienced in Chianti informative, fun, and of course, delicious. And let’s not forget the olive oil… it’s something truly special. Once you taste it, you can’t get enough. This place is pure Tuscan magic. Highly recommended for anyone looking to relax, indulge, and be thoroughly taken care of.

Everything about our stay here was wonderful. The only regret we have staying here is that we didn’t stay here long enough. The staff was incredibly friendly. The wine tour was exceptional. Everything was clean, well kept, and the view was exceptional. It was also one of the best dinners I’ve ever had.

Dr. Lecture probably drank Chianti here. We stayed at Castello la Leccia for two nights, and everything was incredible—the room, the service, and the restaurant. The highlight, though, was Filippo, who made our wine tasting unforgettable. His knowledge of Chianti and the estate’s wines is unmatched, and he shared it with such genuine passion. We left with a deeper appreciation for the region and its wines—highly recommend!

We stayed in Castello La Leccia for 3 nights after several busy days exploring Florence and Lake Garda. Unlike many of the guests, we weren’t using the hotel as a central location whilst exploring Tuscany but were simply looking for somewhere to relax and unwind, and that’s exactly what we found.||The hotel itself is beautiful, with a rustic charm yet everything has been carefully designed and feels clean and crisp and modern at the same time. The grounds are large but not sprawling so everything is just a short stroll away, yet at the same time the limited rooms means you can have your own space and barely see other guests at times. We felt like we had an intimate and private hotel to ourselves at points. ||The views of the grounds and Tuscan hills are nothing short of spectacular, whether that’s during the day or on an evening watching the sun set with colours I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. The photographs simply don’t do it justice. There is an abundance of outdoor space to take it all in, with several locations to sit and enjoy. It was a little cooler when we visited in early October but we found the Lemon House (conservatory) was perfect to get the sun (there was still plenty during the day), views, and stay warm with a glass of wine. The pool is stunning and has an infinity view whilst you’re in it - although it’s not for the faint hearted later in the year. ||We had a room in the separate annex that was large, clean and again had a rustic yet modern charm. Warning, the bathroom element in these rooms is separated from the bedroom with just a screen, something we only discovered when we got there but it was private enough once we got used to it. We were really happy with the room regardless and it has everything you’d expect of a modern boutique hotel. ||The food was excellent. We happened to stay when there were a couple of themed nights so tried the main menu, pizza night and a BBQ night and all were great and reasonably priced. The lunch menu is smaller but has plenty of choice. The wine and drinks were the same, their own wine was excellent and well priced. Breakfast was also excellent with both self serve pastries and continental food, and cooked to order options. The food and drinks are all agroturismo, meaning everything is local to the area (within reason of course), which made it all the more special. ||Other things to note are that you just charge to your room throughout, which makes for a stress free experience (and we were taken through out bill day by day as we checked out to ratify). You’re served delightful snacks with most of your drinks. The sauna and steam room are great but need to be booked (no stress though) so you have privacy for your time in there. They also offer a reduced rate wine tour for guests, which was excellent and we only paid €15 each. The walk/hike around the grounds says expert and says 2 hours duration, yet I’m a novice at best and was wearing simple trainers and it only took me an hour - the last part is a slog back up the hill but it’s worth a go if you have some spare time. The markers on the route keep you right so you can’t really get lost. ||Because we were simply staying at the hotel and not touring, we relied on public transport - but be warned, there are no trains that will get you close and taxis are not easy to find. We took the train from Florence to Poggibonsi, and booked a taxi to and from the hotel (about 30 mins) with a reliable and friendly local taxi driver : Stefano (Chianti Drive) - ‪+39 333 284 9710‬. We couldn’t recommend him enough, he was like our personal tour guide on the drive, he turned up when he promised, and he adjusted to take us all the way to Florence on the way back after train strikes caused us some trouble. We simply dealt with him via WhatsApp to book. Taxi from Poggibonsi to the hotel was €60 each way and €150 to Florence. ||The thing that struck us most about this hotel, other than the extreme beauty of the place, was the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff who made you feel welcome and nothing seemed too much. They explain it as you being part of their family and it really felt that way, I’ve not experienced service like that before. ||Simply the best hotel experience I’ve ever had - beautiful, relaxing and enjoyable.
