The 35 Best Restaurants in São Paulo, Brazil | Eater

"Traditional and modern Neapolitan pizzerias can be found across the city, but if you’re looking for the quintessential pie, this is the place. Opened in 1924, Castelões is the oldest pizzeria in the city and has earned generations of fans, and the dusty decor and old photos on the walls prove its decades of bona fides. Order the house pizza made with artisanal sausage and mozzarella. When the pizza comes out, with a thin, crispy crust and bright red tomato sauce, you’ll understand why the place has flourished for so long." - Rafael Tonon

Best pizza I've ever eaten. The Castelões pizza with the in-house cured meat was alone worth the flight from the U.S. The crust really sealed the deal: it's absolutely perfect and the bottom takes on a buttery texture from the pork fat seeping into it. You'll also have your pizza cut for you with a fork and knife by the waiter every time you're ready for your next slice. It's truly impeccable service from a storied establishment. Note that as of January 2022 Castelões Cantina does indeed accept credit card. Also, like much of SP, the Bras neighborhood looks much worse than it actually is at night.

Really cool place, found it on eater. Very authentic, nice people. However, not a great location plus a pretty long drive for us and cash only. In addition, pizza is only available for dinner, it's a Brazilian thing, so we didn't actually get to eat any pizza. This is obviously not their fault but we were very disappointed. Make sure you plan better than we did.

The best pizza dough I have ever eaten. It's rustic, crispy and slightly thicker than usual. The "castelões" topping is awsome (mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce and cured pepperoni). This restaurant is a São Paulo landmark - it's been there since 1924.

If you're starting a pizza quest in Sao Paulo this is where I would start...this pizzeria has the oldest brick oven in the city of Sao Paulo established in 1924.. couldn't get any pictures of the oven because of covid restrictions 🙁by Italian immigrants it's still family owned the place is a gem historical gem in my opinion it should be preserved... absolutely loved this place and it's history and what it stands for...the pizza was very unique they have a in-house dry cured salami like pepperoni but it is not a pepperoni the name of the cured sausage is castelões if you visit this place that's the pizza I would order..yeah solid 4.3!

Google
tl;dr: solid traditional pizza spot with room for growth. I recently visited this well-known São Paulo pizzeria that locals rave about. While the pizza delivered good flavors and quality ingredients, the overall experience felt stuck in time. The family-style atmosphere and welcoming staff created an authentic vibe, though the casual garage-like setting might not be everyone's cup of tea. What stood out to me was the contrast between the delicious traditional recipes and the dated ambiance that could use some modernization. The neighborhood feels a touch sketchy after dark, so I'd recommend visiting earlier in the evening. Despite the hype not quite living up to "world's best" status, there's definitely charm and culinary skill here that makes it worth experiencing at least once.

Same old same good old place. It's one of the best pizzas in town. Scary for some, home for me. Don't fear the neighborhood. Face the taste! Thanks Damião, even by yourself, great service as usual.

Good pizza and antipasto. Don't accept credit cards or debit. Just cash or transfer

My favorite pizza in the whole world, it is a monument of tradition, in whose walls the history of São Paulo (and its football teams) is displayed. I really love the place!
