Castle in the Country

"How did it strike you on arrival?Located on a quiet country road, Castle in the Country is a quaint, blue, 100-year-old Victorian that screams iconic American dream home. The bed and breakfast, with its millennial pink painted details, wrap-around porch and just-so hanging planters, is an adorable escape out in flat, picturesque countryside. What’s the crowd like? This country getaway attracts couples young and old seeking a romantic retreat from city life. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Ten different rooms and suites are available, with grand sounding names. The Sir Lancelot Suite is decked out in modern, cooling hues of blue gray, with black trimming, king-sized bed, and sitting area with tufted seating and third-floor views of the countryside. Secluded spots throughout the bed and breakfast, from different porches and vantage points, allow even more quiet time amidst the quiet time. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?Castle in the Country's seclusion is its biggest draw. Far away from city lights, you'll be beneath star-filled skies and amidst wide-open spaces. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The luxurious digs and clean country air are enough reason to book a stay."

I treated my husband to a weekend away for Fathers Day weekend. Staying at Castle In The Country was absolutely perfect. We stayed in the King Arthur Suite. The room is beautiful and super clean. The food was delicious with a special tip of the hat to the French Toast. The outdoor grounds are pristine and we really enjoyed the paddle boat. We will definitely be returning. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

This stay was nothing short of amazing. My now husband and I had were so pleased with the services and amenities. I am so beyond glad I found this gem to host our wedding ceremony. The owner and hosts were patient and thorough. The property was gorgeous and so well maintained. The staff put together a very beautiful ceremony for us. The micro wedding package was perfect for what we desired. The Camelot suite was also beyond expectation. I wish we would have booked our stay longer to enjoy more of what the suite and property had to offer. Would recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for an intimate wedding or just a romantic stay. We will be back again and again! 10/10

Your experience starts long before you arrive with a call from Spencer to ask about any dietary needs and to check in on any other request. The staff continues to follow-up via text on check in, directions and any other concerns or questions. Our room was luxurious from the amazing bed and sheets to the rainfall shower and enormous tub. The grounds are beautiful with a walk through the woods to the private lake and a ride on the paddle boat or kayaks or relax in the screened in area. Then you are treated to a delicious breakfast each morning. The owners and staff love what they do and it shows as they pour into their guest. We left so relaxed and rested! Excited for our next trip back!

Spontaneous trip for 7:3 & 7/4. We were lucky to get the Golden Tower room. It was spacious, decorated beautifully, had a Keurig, and was very clean! Spencer greeted us right away with lots of great information and recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Went out on the paddle boats and that was so lovely. Caution though…the deer flies are BAD! We sprayed and they were still swarming. Once we got to the lake it was just fine. Had a great breakfast with an egg crepe, fruit, OJ, scone, and chicken maple sausage. Simply delicious. We are already planning our fall trip to see the fall colors! Highly recommend for a peaceful and relaxing getaway!

We stayed here for a weekend as a birthday celebration, and had the most amazing time. The room was so cute, the entire property was beautiful. We managed to get on the lake and use the kayaks and paddle boats. We also hiked using the trails on the property. We purchased the package to receive a couples massage as well as a picnic. The massage was AMAZING. We were both so relaxed afterwards. Anita is fantastic. After our massage, we picked up our picnic basket which included a bottle of wine, crackers, cheeses, summer sausage, a variety of fruits, peppers and hummus, chips, cookies, and the most amazing sourdough bread (which I loved so much that I have asked the owner to send me the recipe! lol). There is complimentary waters, sodas, teas, coffees, available for use in the main room. Our suite was so clean, and comfortable. Every staff member that we encountered was kind and helpful. We really had the very best weekend, and this will definitely not be our last time staying at Castle in the Country. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!

For 12+ years we have been coming to Castle. We usually come twice a year once on our Anniversary ( we also got married here which was perfect) and usually in the fall. Every year and every stay has always been perfect in every way. Ruth and Herb are absolutely amazing at there jobs and we love talking to them every visit. Spencer and Cailyn also amazing at their jobs and are always there to make our stay great, and we love catching up with them also. We look so forward to our stays and have a child like excitement we our getaway arrives. We have had so many great memories over all of these years from our amazing stays. This place is hands down the best to place to stay and separates itself from every other place. Everything down to the smallest details are always taken care of to make sure our stay is perfect. We absolutely love everything about this place from Our room, the grounds, the food and the best people taking care of you. Thanks for a great stay and thank you for 12+ years our great memories

Castle in the Country is our favorite place to get away for a quiet comfortable refresh vacation. We’ve stayed in both the main house and the castle keep building, and all the rooms have been comfortable, clean, and have everything we need. My partner has a gluten allergy and this is one of the only places where she can enjoy a gourmet breakfast that’s gluten free, delicious, and nearly identical to what everyone else is having. The staff are friendly and helpful and we enjoy seeing Spencer and Cailyn each time. The location is reasonably close to Holland, Saugatuk, lots of wineries and other things to do - but the property and rooms are so nice that you can also spend most of your time on-site if you’re more of a “staycation”|couple. We’ve been here several times and can’t wait for the next trip out. Thank you to everyone who is a part of such a lovely place!! ||Tip!! Local places are closed Mondays - so plan ahead to travel to Holland or another spot or grab takeout on the way in. The innkeepers are also very helpful with recommendations!

Yelp
What an incredibly charming B&B! I've never been to one and googled this for a weekend getaway. I read plenty of the previous reviews and it became an easy decision. Booking online was easy and I was kept informed about my reservation through a few emails ensuring that I was going to have a fun filled happy weekend. Driving up there was an easy route and pulling up to the front house just made it more charming. The old Victorian was beautiful and the check in process was incredible. We arrived at the same time as others and had to wait for a short time in a quaint room that had teas ready for us. We were greeted by one of the hosts who went over everything for us! They covered the room, the meal choices, the facilities and trails, as well as nearby towns and the restaurant recommendations. The room itself was beyond what we imagined! Everything was so romantic and clean. Everything was just pefect. The breakfasts were so filling and there was a nook area with granolas, cookies, and drinks at all times. We couldn't have asked for anything else during the weekend stay and will without hesitation be back!

Yelp
Wife and I went there for our wedding anniversary and I'm glad I am thorough when it comes to finding where to stay or eat or what have you because THIS place looked great when I saw it online and when we got there, it blew my mind. So quaint and lovely and well managed. The food they serve for breakfast was exquisite, the hot tub in the room we had was just plain sweet. I believe we had the Romeo and Juliet suite. Luckily we did all this before the virus hit. Can't wait to do it again. Love it. Love it. Love this place.

Yelp
What a great way to spend a snowy weekend. Castle in the Country is a hidden gem. Tucked away in a quiet peaceful country side is a beautiful piece of Heaven. From the jacuzzi tubs to the fresh made from scratch breakfast and dinner. Every detail was on point. The staff was incredible. The body massages by Rose and Terry were perfect. This has been the best R&R we have ever had! Thank you for making this memorable.

Yelp
This was our (wife and I) first B&B. We did go with the Royal Treatment Package and the Sir Lancelot suite, which was fantastic. This was meant to be a very relaxing weekend for my wife and it did not disappoint. The food they prepare on site was absolutely delicious. And they have good coffee! The one hour couples massage was great and absolutely worth the convenience of it happening all on site just feet away from our room. The two masseuses were very professional and personable. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and professional. You can tell, they really care about the business and your experience. The picnic basket/ travel bag was very good. The cheeses, fruit and bread were all very fresh and tasty. We saved the wine to continue drinking a bottle we brought with us. We did enjoy going to the Tulip Festival in Holland. Keep in mind, miles do not always equal minutes when driving. We really enjoyed our drives to go to other things/places, lots of beautiful nature to see as you drive. We will definitely return, maybe in the winter to enjoy some snow and the fireplace. Overall, a great place to unwind and unplug.

Yelp
My husband and I came back here for our 6 year anniversary. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet room for our honeymoon and in the Camelot room for our anniversary. Both rooms were amazing! They were both very romantic and spacious. Camelot room was a little more secluded and the bathroom was a lot bigger. They both were also very clean and felt like a home. They always had coffee, teas, snacks, and fresh cookies in their kitchen area for any guests to grab. The breakfast was delicious. You get fruit, a small scone/muffin, and your main breakfast dish. I love that everything is very peaceful here. The innkeeper was super sweet and helpful. She showed us a map of the area and offered suggestions on where to eat in the area or towns to visit. On our last day, she even gave us a gift for being return guests. Definitely recommend for it here!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at Castle in the Country from Thursday, June 30 to Monday, July 4 in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. To say that it was incredible would be an understatement. We've had the pleasure of staying at very nice resorts and upscale hotels but had never stayed at a B&B. However, we now find ourselves talking about our stay here quite regularly. We stayed in the Camelot Suite, which is in the Castle Keep, because it has a private patio that is near a water fountain and is a great place to enjoy morning coffee before making your way to the dining room for breakfast. Also, the bathroom had both a large shower with three shower heads and a whirlpool tub. The complimentary toiletries was a nice touch, as well. The feature we really enjoyed was the crystal fireplace in the bathroom! The room itself was spacious and comfortable. There was a small sitting area with two comfortable chairs and a table, a bar area with a small fridge, sink and Keurig, along with the king sized bed and a second crystal fireplace. There was ample amounts of K-cups and condiments in the room for the Keurig. We opted to purchase the Royal Treatment Package, which ended up being a great choice. The package includes a couples massage, which can be iffy. However, the two ladies that were our masseuses were great! It also includes a picnic lunch, which ended up being a generous amount of tasty foods & a locally made wine that we enjoyed in the enclosed gazebo by the lake. It also included a dinner voucher to a local restaurant and a breakfast tray delivered to our room, which we enjoyed on the patio. We would recommend this package to anyone staying here. Each of the breakfasts were very tasty and satisfying. We loved sitting next to the window during breakfast and looking out over the pond while we ate. On a few nights, we sat on the deck overlooking the pond while enjoying the gas fire pit. A few other nice touches were the in-room climate control and the trails that are on the property. Lastly, the location is great because you feel like you've "gotten away" but are still only a short drive from Holland, South Haven, Fennville and Allegan. Overall, we loved our time at Castle in the Country and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
I fell I love with the house and the food was delicious. However located right off busy road and traffic was loud. Didn't get much sleep.

Yelp
This is the perfect place to isolate yourself from the hustle and bustle of the city and life's stresses. Castle in the Country is a wonderful bed and breakfast! The rooms are so modern, yet cozy. The Bo & I stayed in the Camelot Suite and it was such a relaxing stay. The jacuzzi in this suite was amazing! Not to mention the rustic scenery and walking trails! Ruth, the innkeeper, made us a wonderful breakfast! The meal topped off what was a beautiful romantic stay in Allegan, MI. There is not much sightseeing to do in this area, but if you want some quality alone time and the atmosphere to do so, then this is your go-to place for sure. We heard that there is a very good restaurant called Salt of the Earth nearby, but we couldn't try it since it was closed. We decided to pack some easy to assemble Italian eats for our dinner. I made some pickled peppers and onions, and bought pate, cured Italian meats, sesame & rice crackers, cheeses, and red & white wines from Whole Food's and the People's Food Co-op in Ann Arbor. I got some great smoked peppercorn gouda, cambozola, brie, & mozzarella. The B&B also has a microwave that we used to heat up our ravioli. There was also a small fridge where we could keep our wine & left over food as well! The Bo and I cannot wait until our next visit!

Yelp
Relaxing, peaceful getaway. This B and B is comfortable and welcoming. The innkeepers are friendly and want to attend to your wishes. The breakfast is delicious and there are snacks available at all times. The bed is comfortable but not the best. The towels are a bit stiff. The location is away from the hustle and bustle but 30 minutes to a cute little town that has shops and restaurants. The 65 acres of private land are beautiful to walk around, but we had to go to town to buy orange sweatshirts because it was opening weekend of deer hunting (which we did not know). We would definitely come back!

Yelp
It was out first ever stay at a B&B and what a great stay. The room was wonderful and the hot tub was relaxing. We took a picnic down to the lake and spent the day paddling around the lake while enjoying a bottle of wine. Don't forget to sit out on the porch at night and enjoy a fire. The inn keepers are warm and friendly and ready to give advice on ways to spend the day. Breakfast is also good, but lite on portions.

Yelp
From My Wife: So, the stars aligned and my husband and I were going to be without kids for a few days. Coincidentally, this was also our 15th anniversary. So, I figured we should go away for a long weekend. After extensive research (and I really mean extensive), I decided upon Castle in the Country in Allegan, MI. This was a three hour drive from Traverse City, MI, where we were dropping off our son at camp, and it was roughly still in the direction of home - which is Pittsburgh, PA. Castle in the Country was Absolute Perfection! We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and were graciously greeted by Besan. I'm not sure what her official role is, but we had previously communicated through email when I asked for information about nearby activities. Upon check in we were told about the many amenities including the DVDs available to borrow, the fire pit that we were invited to use, the coffee and tea that's always available and the chocolate chip cookies in case we needed a snack. We stayed in the Sir Lancelot suite, which is located in the Castle Keep - the second building which is set further back from the road. Our room was beautifully appointed with a lovely view of the pond. It was on the third floor and is one of the five suites in the Castle Keep. Our room had a contemporary yet warm and inviting feel - with a very comfortable king bed, the softest sheets I've ever slept on (and you can order them through the B&B - which of course I did!), a very generously sized 2 person jacuzzi, a fireplace and a private bathroom. No detail was left unturned. The sitting room on the first floor of the Castle Keep was comfortable and inviting with soft background music and a picturesque view. Always available was an extensive selection of coffees and teas. The kitchenette also had a refrigerator with bottled water and soda. The cookie jar was filled with Herb's (one of the owners) outstanding chocolate chip cookies. The grounds include a lake with a kayak and paddle boats available to use; however we didn't venture that far, as just outside our door was a screened gazebo, shaded porch and a deck full of comfy furniture - all overlooking the pond and nearby farmland. We scheduled the side-by-side couples massage which was very relaxing under the expert hands of Rachael and Kathy who were both extremely pleasant and professional. We went out for dinner both nights and followed recommendations from the staff. The first night we ate at Butch's dry dock in Holland, MI - it took us 40 minutes to get there, including parking. Butch's was delicious. Our second night we ate at Salt of the Earth in Fennville, which is about 20 minutes away and this was possibly the best meal I've ever had. Breakfast in the Castle was fresh and delicious including orange juice, fresh fruit, and a pastry both days as well as a hot entree - leek and tomato frittata one day and cooked to order omelettes the other. With two kids and living seven hours away it'll be hard to get back to the Castle in the Country, but I plan to return as soon as I can. It was the perfect relaxing romantic get-away - just what I was looking for.

Yelp
My bf and I were trying to find the perfect weekend getaway within a reasonable distance. We came across the website for Castle in the Country. We found their rooms had a more tasteful design layout - not resembling grandma's room like the other B&B's.

Yelp
My wife and I got married at Castle. We simply loved it. Several months before the ceremony, we visited Castle to meet with the staff, see the location, and talk about the wedding. We finalized our decision immediately, as their property is so beautiful and truly met our vision. Castle has two buildings; the Castle and the Keep. We booked the Keep for us and our family on our wedding night. The ceremony was outdoor on the deck, near the gazebo. The event was quick, intimate, and very romantic. The reception was simple and sweet. Afterward, we sat outside, by the fire and enjoyed the company of our family. Planning the event was very simple. We generally coordinated over email. Castle offers a package that covers pretty much everything. They offer a few options and you can customize a number of elements. We spent so much time planning our large reception (which took place two days later in Chicago) that Castle's all inclusive package was a wonderful peace of mind. One thing that is important to recognize. Castle will be the first to admit that their photography is not professional. The pictures we got were average overall. My brother is an amatuer photographer who owns some expensive equipment. He shot side by side with Castle's staff and we were glad we had his extra shots. If photographs are very important to you, you may want to hire someone. We love Castle and will definitely return on an anniversary. If you want an intimate, romantic, private wedding experience, Castle is great option. Definitely schedule a visit.

Yelp
This was my first bed and breakfast and after this one it's going to be hard to top. This place is amazing and I highly recommend it! I stayed in the Romeo and Juliet room with my boyfriend and it was incredible. The king size bed is soo comfortable which is amazing to plop into after using the two-person tub with jets. I only spent one night there and it was extremely relaxing. There are so many things to do here, if you ever want to leave the room, there are trails to walk and they end up on the lake by a screen house where you can go kayaking or just enjoy a day by the lake. Up by the house there is an enchanting gazebo down by a lake with beautiful twinkly lights to add the magic. They allow you to stay on the grounds even after checkout so you can still enjoy the beautiful scenery after a delicious breakfast! This place is very romantic and if you're looking for a getaway- look no further because this place will knock your socks off!

Yelp
My husband and I celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary at Castle in the Country. The hospitality is top notch, breakfasts delicious, and the grounds beautiful and a little wild. We kayaked around the private lake one morning, enjoyed dinner at Salt of the Earth (you must get the Brussel sprouts!), toured Fenn Valley Winery, watched the sun set at Westside County Park, and all in all enjoyed our retreat for two very much. We look forward to coming back at first opportunity.

Yelp
Just to be clear: there were LOTS of good things about this B&B. For starters, the piece of land is amazing! Good walks, great views, a firepit and it's awesome that they let you use the paddleboats and things on the private lake. The staff were also super friendly and accommodating BUT the property is split in two halves -- an old beautiful farm house and a newer building farther up the road. The new build feels very cheap (linoleum in the halls, thin plaster, crappy blinds on the windows) but is well situated on the property. The old building is full of charm but right next to the road so the front rooms have a bit of traffic noise. (If I were to go again, I'd definitely stay in the back rooms of the old house) In either case the towels are a little threadbare, and the little soaps and coffees and things are really generic Gordon Food Service type stuff. I know I am being pedantic, and this probably doesn't bother most people, but for the price I was really expecting a higher quality experience. It was a huge splurge for our honeymoon and I was hoping for something a little more special. All in all it's a really rather nice place to stay, and I can't stress enough how beautiful the property was or how lovely the staff were (they even rang to check on us when we slept through breakfast the first morning!). But for the price I was disappointed in the rooms and would have expected this sort of experience from somewhere half the price.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
Very Disappointed...Very Overpriced. Staff not honest about travel times to Holland, Saugatuck, Holland and such. Plan on 45 - 50 minutes to get anywhere! Not the 20 - 30 minutes they will tell you. The SPA packages are way overpriced...go to the Four Season if you want a real SPA. The room was clean but needs updating...the rooms should be priced about $125-$149 not anywhere close to where they are marked. Buyer beware...

Yelp
Castle in the Country is the perfect place if you want a quiet weekend and don't want to leave the grounds. But if you want to explore and have a little more active of a weekend this isn't a good jumping off point. Pros: Great, helpful staff. Nice facilities. Decent breakfast. Large grounds with pond/swamp and lake with kayaks and paddle boats. Couples massage was great and worth $200. Picnic was nice but couldn't pick up until 1130. So we grabbed it later when we got back and had it as a late night snack. Cons. Nothing nearby. One restaurant down the road closed at 9pm. 45 min drive to Saugatauk, wineries etc Overpriced "packaged" deals. Get the A La Carte items. Locked boats on lake. Can only use them if you ask for a key during normal hours. (Apparently some people were given keys. We were not.) Bring bug spray, although I did see some available. Bottom line: This was my first time in Southwest Michigan and this was an ideal spot for us. Great place but if you're looking for a more active weekend I would stay in Saugatauk.

Yelp
Once upon a place far far away from all that's bothersome is Castle in the Country where complete relaxation can easily be found. In the Romeo and Juliet suite, we found a bed worthy of a princess with no pea beneath. There was, however, a persistent knocking behind the wall in the bathroom that woke us up throughout the first night (water pump)? Ah, but the jacuzzi soothed nonetheless. Chivalrous gents beware; when you pull down the toilet seat, the toilet cover comes with, my thumb still aches. A comfy robe and delicious coffee made the pain go away. Breakfast was delicious but not gourmet. The cost of the Castle Keep is, however, gourmet. Sitting in the gazebo by the propane fire eased that pain. Having a balcony in the Romeo and Juliet suite could have been cheesy; not so here where taste reigns. Innkeepers struck that difficult balance between attentiveness and unobtrusiveness. We especially appreciated how housekeeping mysteriously did their work while we were at breakfast, allowing a full day in the room if wanted with fresh linen nonetheless. And don't worry about getting dressed if it's breakfast in bed; breakfast is sensitively delivered outside your door. Outdoors, Miss Abby is a most hospitable cat. The castle achieves giving one the sense of being far far away.

Yelp
Nice quiet weekend for us. Food was great and nobody bothered us. That is what we were looking for.

Yelp
We needed a relaxing weekend getaway, and that's what we got at Castle in the Country. I'm not sure what else we could have asked for. The "castle", which is really a circa 1906 Victorian mansion, as well as the castle keep (a newer building located on the property), are both meticulously maintained and feel like home. The property is picturesque and a joy to walk around - a pond with an overhead deck and screened gazebo, a lake with complimentary kayaks and paddleboat (and a screened porch), walking trails through the woods - all located away from towns and heavy traffic. The people who work here who we met all seemed very nice and were helpful when we had questions. The food was awesome - breakfast (strawberry cream cheese-stuffed French toast - yep) was served to us in the castle keep, with views overlooking the lake and rolling green hills beyond. It was a most memorable trip for my wife and I. Some have complained about the B&B's isolation, that it takes too long to get to surrounding towns. While it is true that some of the nearby towns with fine restaurants and shopping range from 20-45 minutes away, they are worth driving to because the drive is scenic. Fruit orchards, woodlands, and an overall rural backdrop highlight the trips you'll take to and from the B&B. If what you desire is a fast-paced environment with late night bars, clubs, and whatnot, this is probably not the place for you. If you are like my wife and I and seek a quiet, serene escape from city life, this place is paradise. I must insist that anyone staying here take advantage of the kayaks. The lake is quiet and still and if the conditions are just right and you're up early enough, you'll be able to paddle out in the middle of a lake cloaked in fog while the birds and turtles begin to wake up from their slumber. It is truly dreamlike. We stayed in the Golden Tower, one of the least expensive rooms on the 3rd floor. It was not equipped with a hot tub, nor did it offer spectacular views, but it was just right for us. Cozy and located inside the main turret of the home. We might consider trying one of the rooms with a hot tub during the autumn, but if we couldn't for some reason, we would be entirely happy being back in the Golden Tower. Stay at the Castle in the Country for the perfect weekend (or week-long) getaway. You'll thank me for it. P.S. - this is the 5th or 6th B&B we have stayed in over the last few years and is probably the best one we have stayed in.

Yelp
We are currently staying in the sir lancelot suite and just got back from a night hike from the pond looking at the beautiful stars. We both cannot get past the thought and beauty of this whole place. There's such charm, peace and quite, delightful faces, and wonderful suites. Not one detail has gone left unnoticed. Truly an expierence I'm glad I got to have. Can't not wait for a return visit.

Yelp
We stayed in the Sir Lancelot room. It had such a beautiful view and the room was perfect, just like the pictures! It was really enjoyable to walk through the woods and take the paddle boat on the lake. Breakfast was delicious both day that we stayed. It is a quiet and romantic atmosphere. We loved it!

Yelp
Though we have stayed at Castle in the Country twice before, we had never had an evening meal there. This year was different. In the past we had usually driven 40-50 miles round trip to Holland which as a number of excellent restaurants. Since our stay at the Castle was limited, it saved time to be able to have a meal without having to drive anywhere. My wife and I sat at a window overlooking a beautiful pond full of activity from ducks, muskrats, and squirrels. It takes something like this to add to the ambiance of the entire evening. Our first course was a salad of spring mixed greens, feta cheese, dried cherries, orange, cucumber, and a special house made balsamic vinaigrette. Every ingredient was very fresh and of highest quality. I appreciated the spring greens because it contains some greens that are just a bit on the bitter side. Not only are they considered very healthy, they add character to what could have been a routine salad. The oranges, dried cherries, and feta cheese all have a distinct flavor of their own. Here was a salad that had all of sweet, sour, bitter, and acidic all in proper delicious balance and the mixture of colors added to an attractive appearance. The main entree was beef tenderloin, angle hair pasta, red pepper, grape tomatoes, broccolini, and fresh basal. Herb is a great chef and has a knack of combining flavors. The beef tenderloin was perfectly prepared: not undercooked or overcooked. The same can be said for the angel hair pasta which is very easy to turn mushy if not carefully watched. The pasta had a creamy butter garlic sauce with a slight hint of smokiness from the grilled meat. Fresh basal is always wonderfully packed with flavor that some dried herb in a plastic shaker can never equal. I had a glass of cabernet sauvignon and my wife had a glass of chardonnay with our meal which added excellence to the tenderloin. The meal was topped off with an exquisite chocolate cheese cake, which was warm, chewy and had the added flavors of cherry and amaretto. Doesn't that whet your appetite? The interior had the added delight of small melted bits of semi-sweet chocolate. Overcook a dessert like this and the chocolate just becomes part of the cake itself, undercooked, and the chocolate bits are hard and lack the texture and smoothness of melted chocolate. This was just another sign of Herb's attention to detail and a desire to have every item the very best for guests. The cheese cake was accompanied with a excellent coffee characterized with a robust aroma. Since my wife and I rarely drink coffee, it takes a cup perfectly brewed and made of highest quality beans to impress us. This was no exception. You can imagine what a letdown it would have been to have a poor cup of coffee with such a classy dessert. Something needs to be said about the service at Castle in the Country that only one who has been there would truly understand. Every destination that leaves a lasting memory has some characteristic of distinction. Along with the beautifully detailed décor of every room which shows the artistic tastes of Herb and Ruth, the owners, there is also the exceptional service. Ruth knows when a couple wants privacy or conversation. She knows how to give personal attention to guests. She is friendly and personable without being in any way overbearing. She is able to immediately make one feel at home and welcome. Ruth and Herb have the character and personalities you would find in wonderful neighbors. No wonder Castle in the Country was awarded "Most Perfect Stay" and "Most Romantic Hideaway in North America".

Yelp
My husband and I have been to Castle in the Country twice. Once for his birthday celebration and the second time to get married. Both weekends were absolutely perfect. In February we got to snowboard, snow shoe, make our own steaks, and have 2 wonderful, homemade breakfasts. In October we came back to have our wedding. Everything was planned for us, taking the stress out of the day. We got to have side by side massages, a beautiful ceremony and pictures on the grounds topped off by the beautiful fall colors. The evenings were spent in the whirlpool tub by the in room fireplace just relaxing. There is no better way to spend a weekend with the person you love than at this B&B. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
After excitedly booking our romantic weekend, we looked forward to spending a nice romantic weekend at the inn. We checked in and our room did not disappoint (King Arthur Suite). As we were readying ourselves for dinner, my husband got a phone call that he needed to return home for an emergency. We called the innkeeper and left a message that we would need to abruptly leave due to an emergency. We followed up with communication indicating that we would like to see what arrangements could be made to recoup our very expensive weekend costs that we were unable to benefit from. The innkeeper took almost two weeks getting back to us and that was only after we repeatedly contacted her as to our status. Her offer was only to allow us to book a night Monday thru Thursday and could not even guarantee us the same or comparable room. We then requested a refund as that would not work with our work schedule and she never responded. So, beware-if you have an emergency and cannot stay, the innkeeper will not refund for extenuating circumstances nor does she seem to care. Her response was delayed or non existent.

Yelp
A beautiful old victorian house on a pretty piece of land. We stayed in the old house, and it was impeccably restored and decorated with beautiful antiques. Absolutely perfect for a quick weekend getaway.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the "Castle"! We stayed four nights and had such a relaxing time. It was an anniversary trip for us, and we came to the castle because of its recommendation as one of the romantic B&B's around, and we were not disappointed. One of my fears as I looked at a B&B instead of a fancy hotel was that beds might be uncomfortable (you know, like the 45 year old bed at your grandma's??). That was NOT the case here...the pillows and mattress were soft enough to be plush yet firm enough to give good back support. So comfortable!! The full breakfast every morning was very filling. I loved that I could eat a full breakfast meal that was not greasy or overly rich, yet still thoughtfully put together and absolutely delicious. My ONLY tiny disappointment with the breakfast was this: we had the same breakfast on our first morning and last morning. It was still delicious, but I know that there were other menu options (as we saw what was being served the next day), and we would have enjoyed tasting something different. Perhaps this isn't normally an issue - I don't know how common it is to have guests stay 4 consecutive nights. Nevertheless, this was by far our favorite B&B stay, and probably one of our favorite getaways in general... this was so much more unique than a glitzy hotel. At a Marriott, for example, outside of your room, there's not a lot for you! Here, our room was a lot better than a hotel room, AND there was so much available to us on the grounds and in the buildings themselves. We could go out on a boat, or stay in and choose a movie from their library...and even run down to the kitchenette to pop some popcorn! The innkeeper has so many more suggestions than your average concierge. If you haven't done a B&B before, try the Castle...although you might never want to go anywhere else!
