Lovely old school pie and mash shop. The pies are beef mince and served with a parsley liquor and a dash of mash. Keep some room for the desserts, shout out to the bread and butter pudding!

The best pie Ive ever had! As an Australian i thought nothing beats our pies but i have to say this place changed my mind. Cheap, cosy and great people. The chap at the front was very kind and helpful, the whole atmosphere of the place made me feel like i was in an old movie in London. Would recommend all of my friends to come here. Went there for the first time and I have to add that the folk working there made us feel so very welcome, the food and pudding was simply tremendous. Only one regret was I had to take away due to another appointment. Going back there again for sure, real cockney feel to the place. One very happy customer !!!

An absolute classic. The single most traditional British pie you’ll ever have and the most welcoming experience. Just extremely cosy, familiar, and a little time capsule. At the same time makes you forget you’re in the heart of modern London and on the other it’s inherently the most low-profile, comforting, working-class London bistro you could imagine. But most importantly. The pies are great. Ridiculously great. So simple, they couldn’t be any better. Super warm and casual staff makes everything even tastier! Could see myself moving to the neighbourhood just to eat there every two days. Just amazing.

🥔 A local told us that if we haven't tried pie and mash, we haven't been to London. That's why this little restaurant was the first stop on our culinary tour. Pie and mash is a combination of meat pie, mashed potatoes and parsley sauce. Portions at the Castle's are generous, but, coming from a country that uses a lot of spices, the taste felt a little bland. That's really a personal preference, as the queue at this place didn't stop for the full hour we spent there! 🍮 When it comes to desserts though, I was blown away. The treacle pudding with custard was steaming hot and made me feel warm and fuzzy inside on a windy day. And it's so sweet! I couldn't finish it (and I eat a lot of sweet stuff!). 🍽️ The place is small and cozy, five tables inside, two outside. 💷 Cash only ♿ There's a step at the entrance, but plenty of room for a wheelchair or stroller, inside and outside.

This is definitely not a tourist spot and is a very traditional pie & mash shop out in the Kentish area. If you're looking for a quick, cheap, traditional British meal, look no further. Its a small, very casual spot that definitely seems to be a local favorite (staff knew folks by name and order). It is cash only so bring your loose change and get yourself a pie or two. I didn't go the traditional route with liquor and went with gravy. I enjoyed my meal, nice crispy pie with a smooth mash and flavorful gravy. They were also continuing to bake pies so if you're lucky you can get one right out of the oven! They also serve jellied eel here but I didn't try it, maybe a bit too ~exotic~ for me (I actually just don't like the texture of jelly very much). Anyways, if you're looking for a proper pie & mash, this is def a spot to check out. It feels as if you're transported back in time, away from the hustle and bustle of central.

Visited on 5/5/23 I've had the good fortune to enjoy tasting many sets of pie and mash for way more years that you can imagine, and this place serves up a wonderful plate of pie, mash, with lovely green liqueur, that is one of the best that I have ever had. The menu is small, straight forward, and delicious ( they have sticky toffee pudding with custard) (my super favorite, but I resisted because I have been eating like a pig. Maybe I'll go back tomorrow. C P&M are conveniently located very close to the Camden Town underground station. Visit as soon as possible, London had many more pie and mash shops years ago, being able to find one near a location you are traveling at is a rare treat and should not be missed.

So the menu is simple, you can get pie, you can get mash, you can get eel, all in varying quantities. That's pretty much it. There is a dessert and it'll be a single choice. Pie will be meat, probably beef mince, no, there isn't a choice. It'll be hot and fresh from the oven. Mash will be mashed potato and relatively simple in creation. On this, you can get liquor, which is a thin parsley sauce. Eels, should you get them, will be jellied (this means sliced and boiled in a stock that is allowed to set). There will be bones, there will be jelly, I would suggest that you try it at least once! Service is pleasant and consistent as long as I've been there. It's good trench food and will definitely stick to your ribs. If you're looking for an old school London experience, this will be it. The food isn't high brow, the place itself is like a time warp, but you'll be all the more better for it!

This place has been serving up excellent pie and mash here since the 30s. I consider myself a bit of a pie and mash connoisseur and have always considered this to be one of better pie shops. The Pie and mash is roughly about £3 but you can ask for double pie, double mash for a larger portion for roughly about £6 For those who have never been to a traditional London Pie n Mash shop please don't start critiquing about the quality or the ambiance. It's not about that. It's about a tradition and more importantly London heritage and it's something I feel all self respecting Londoners should try at least once and keep supporting so they don't disappear all together. It's not too far from Camden Town station and is well worth a visit if up on a Saturday. This place is a bit of a locals secret but if your a tourist visiting Camden market defiantly come in and try some authentic Traditional London fare. Do note it isn't open Sunday or Monday.

Terrible ! Just terrible. We were walking around Camden area and walked by this place. As it had a fair amount of people (4 out of their 8 tables were full), we were excited and thinking that we discovered a secret new hole in the wall. Really, it's just a hole in the wall. Their thing is "traditional eel and mash." I've been living in London for 2+ years now and I definitely didn't know eel and mash was a thing, so we popped in to try it. We ordered "carton of eel," 2 pies, and liquor sauce. The carton of eel was basically a small cup aka the "carton" filled about 10% with eel. It was literally maybe 5 tiny pieces of eel for £3.00. And it was fishy and gross. And I love eel.. almost always ordering unagi this or unagi that at japanese restaurants. The pies were disgusting as well. And I've never complained about pies.. I'm very happy with those frozen puka pies at Tescos or the Jumbucks aussie pies, they're practically bursting with gourmet flavors compared to the pies at Castles. And the weird green liquor.. just tasted like flour mixed with warm water with neon electric green dye added to it. Everything was so bland and disappointing. We took a bite out of each and tossed it straight away. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent pie and mash shop. Joanne L. was probably expecting something incredibly different when ordering the eels. Comparing it to Japanese food? What sort of comparison is that? The liqour here is a bit less spicy, but they add plenty of it and it goes down well with the nice mash. Definitely going to visit again. It's a shame the influx of modern "I didn't know eel and mash was a thing" squad have gradually helped close these places down with poor, ill informed reviews and chain-restaurant preferences. I encourage everyone to take a walk down there and have yourself some double pie and double mash, better then all else around, and theres a lot of good contenders.
