"This list is packed, but the ultra-charming botany vibes at 11th Hour Coffee need a shout-out — a particular favorite for pre-surfing energy — as does the first shop of the now-booming coffee company Verve. But the official pick goes to Cat and Cloud as it’s now synonymous with what Santa Cruz coffee can offer to the region and to the country: a business that touts inclusive practices and well-sourced coffee." - Paolo Bicchieri, Garrick Ramirez, Eater Staff

15 Must-Try Places to Eat and Drink in Santa Cruz

Yelp
Cat & Cloud is one of my favorite coffee shops & roasters!! When I'm in Santa Cruz I always stop by for drinks, beans & the best breakfast burrito I've ever had!!! It's so good I came two days in a row :) First day we both had a Creamy Beige & C&C Breakfast Burrito (scrambled eggs, El Salchichero bacon, crispy potatos, chipotle aioli & cilantro w/ tomatillo salsa on the side). The drink is like an espresso milkshake 5-Stars and I swear this is the best breakfast burrito you will ever have 10-Stars!!! Second day I had an Espresso & Flat White, both were excellent :) I enjoyed them sitting in the sun reading. I also picked up a couple of bags of freshly roasted beans for home. They have four locations in Santa Cruz but I think this is my favorite. Plenty of seating inside & out and lots of parking in the rear. As good as everything here is I need to mention the staff, some of the friendliest I've ever met at a coffee shop. Efficient and helpful I can't say enough. I only get up to Santa Cruz a few times a year but when I do Cat & Cloud is a must!

Yelp
Quaint and adorable are only a few words one can use to describe this laidback cafe. Their coffee is delicious, addicting and beautifully designed. There's a self serving station for all your to go and oat milk addage needs. Got a chance to try several menu items including some from the pastry case and they all looked so mouthwatering I don't think anything would disappoint. The lemon croissant was such a great tangy surprise, like eating a flaky filled lemon bar croissant. And I've not met little piggies I wanted to taste more than this bear claw. Perfectly layered, flaky, flavorful and crispy at all the right places. The food itself were cute and unique in ways I didn't expect but totally made sense after the fact. Breakfast burrito was good but a little heavy on the diced roasted potatoes. Texturally, slightly confusing, nice solid sturdy burrito! Love all the personalized touch on the Cat drawings on little bits of every order. Definitely would've made this a regular stop if I lived here.

Yelp
Reminded that ignorance isn't bliss but fully embracing reality while cultivating a strong inner peace is bliss. I stopped by Cat and Cloud cause I enjoy venturing through the different parts that Santa Cruz has to offer. I enjoyed my stop at this Cat and Cloud as it was away from the crowds and offered a spacious, aesthetically pleasing interior (of course with good coffee). I got their single origin VALLE DELAUCA COLOMBIA (with notes of LIMEADE * COCOA NIB * TOFFEE). I personally liked how it had a tart note while maintaining a deep chocolate base. Service was fine!

Yelp
I came to Santa Cruz for a half day trip and came to this coffee shop to grab some coffee to start my day. I picked cat & coffee because I saw there were multiple stores in Santa Cruz and they all had good reviews. Very disappointed when I got there. Coffee were ok but vibes was overall unwelcoming.

Yelp
I come to Santa Cruz for breakfast burritos every Sunday and have been on the hunt for the best burrito and I think I found it! The Cat & Cloud Breakfast Burrito is top notch. The location is close to the beach so I recommend taking them to go and sit on West Cliff to eat. Great service they're typically pretty busy so the food and coffee takes awhile but definitely worth the wait.

Kelly G.

Yelp
I still love cat & cloud but dang, does their food take forever. Prepare to wait 30+ min, even if you're getting something seemingly quick like overnight oats. Also they used tots instead of those super tasty little potatoes in their burritos last time I got one. Those crispy little potato morsels were what made the burrito so good!! I'm hoping that was a temporary thing?

Yelp
I came here with my family while visiting Santa Cruz. We were all wanting coffee and something to eat away from the boardwalk. This place was perfect! The place is pretty spacious, with indoor and outdoor seating. The service was really good! We went right after a big rush, but the employee's were still kind and helpful. We all ordered different drinks: Iced Mocha Iced Coffee Iced Chai Hot Chai And we also all ordered the breakfast burrito. It was SO GOOD! A really good size portion with a side of a side of salsa (which is more flavorful rather than spice). It was a great spot to be able to enjoy the late morning before heading to the beach. I'll definitely be going back.

Yelp
Amazing coffee, food and service! I frequent Cat & Cloud every time I'm in Santa Cruz. It's a bustling coffee shop so expect a line and a bit of a wait, especially on weekends. There are indoor communal tables and smaller outdoor tables available. I'm typically just a black coffee or cold brew person but I love indulging in a mocha when I stop here. It's comforting without being overly sweet or rich. The cashiers and servers are always so chill and accommodating. They offer pastries and breakfast foods. My family enjoyed some breakfast burritos and pastries. Everything was delicious. The burritos were hearty and delicious. A great value for the cost. The croissants we ordered were buttery and flaky. We love this place and will continue to return.

Yelp
It took 20 minutes to get my burrito only for it to arrive burnt. The bacon especially inside the bacon was super burnt. Very disappointed

Jason F.

Yelp
Came here on a weekend at around 12:30pm on a weekend and found parking infront. The parking lot they have next to the shop is pretty small so you may have to drive around a bit to find parking. I've been here a few times now and the burrito is always sooooo good. The potatoes delicious and the bacon compliments all the flavors inside the burrito. The highlight might be the green sauce they give you with the burrito. I believe it's a cilantro base sauce. If i could buy a bottle of it, i totally would.

Mark R.

Yelp
My first visit to Cat & Cloud. Excellent coffee. Pleasant, prompt service. Food was surprisingly good. Light and airy environment with lots of outside seating. Parking was plentiful. Happy to come again when I'm in town.

Michelle S.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed our morning stop off to grab some coffee and a bite before we hit the road to Monterey Bay. The burrito was delicious if a bit of the spicy side for my husband who doesn't typically eat spicy foods. I was a bit confused as to where it was located walking up, but once we figured out it was an indoor food court it made a lot more sense. Will definitely go back the next time we're in town!

Yelp
Delicious new (for us!) third wave coffee in Santa Cruz. My husband and I needed to charge our EV before heading home. Came here, conveniently across the street, and offering delicious coffee! We shared an iced mocha with oat milk to fuel our journey home back to S.F. Loved our coffee! We even took 2 bags of espresso beans to take home, so glad we did. Looks like they offer 20% off on bags of beans on Fridays, unfortunately we went on a Thursday, but next time. They were between $14-18 each, which was a decent going rate for good quality beans. Service excellent too!! Quick and very friendly!!! This location is in a food hall, which has seating area and bathroom too. Would highly recommend if you're in the area!

Yelp
A great spot for a lovely coffee and snack. Their coffee is always consistently delightful and a treat. Often my go to place for their breakfast burrito, but it's a bit inconsistent with the filling ratios (ex. sometimes little egg, then other times a lot of egg and no potatoes) none the less their in house sauces for the burrito is delightful! Unsure with the other food options, as I only go for the burrito cause it's quite tasty. Everyone working here is always super kind. The space itself is lovely with great indoor and outdoor options.

Mike C.

Yelp
Great coffee shop right by my work. The staff is always amazing and helpful and the coffee is delicious. I love the house coffee but the single origins are fantastic as well. Great breakfast burrito too!

Susie D.

Yelp
Not going to lie, with a name with "cat" in it, I was really excited to try this place for the name alone. Unfortunately, their matcha latte was not as stellar as their name. It came in a pre-made mix with sweetener, so much so that it was undrinkable. The croissant was good, but had to go across the street to get a good latte to drink it with.

Robert F.

Yelp
Beautiful building in an industrial area of Santa Cruz; just down the street from Humble Sea Brewing. Very busy when we walked in and it stayed busy the whole time we were there. We were able to find some counter (high chair) seating. Waited in line for a few minutes to order, when it was my turn the girl who helped me was very friendly and helpful. We ordered two house (drip) coffees and they were served up hot and in nice mugs. The coffee had great flavor and was perfect. We would definitely visit again.

Andre L.

Yelp
Great staff, great coffee, great burritos. Best things on menu: C&C breakfast burrito, single origin coffee, chocolate chip cookie. Pop into the roastery next door for a tour, friendly peeps in there as well.

C. M. H.

Yelp
Love the name and the logo and menu and the quirky descriptions, and I was looking forward to trying this place for a long time. But the non dairy surcharge of almost $2 per drink is ridiculous. This type of discrimination is not what I was expecting while in Santa Cruz. Until this changes, I would not return or recommend.

Yelp
Food - We came on Thanksgiving morning and ordered the Turkish eggs, the seasonal apple waffle, and a flat white. Turkish Eggs - 5/5. I have NEVER had Turkish eggs before but this changed my life. The yogurt was so rich and flavorful and paired perfectly with the garlic oil and poached egg with a perfectly runny egg yolk. The bread served with it was perfectly toasted and crisp and the entire combination was just unexpected and perfect. Seasonal apple waffle - 4.5/5. Everything about this was perfect, the crispness of the waffle, the flavor of the crumble, the amount of apple, and the syrup to pair with it. The only thing I felt was missing from making this absolutely perfect was that it didn't have whipped cream and I feel like some fresh cream would have been a good contrast to the sweetness and richness of the other flavors. Coffee - 5/5. My sister ordered a flat white which I tried a bit of and it was phenomenal! Service - 5/5. As mentioned, I came on Thanksgiving morning, and even though it was a holiday for everybody, the workers were still super friendly and accommodating. Ambiance - 5/5. The weather was absolutely amazing when we came and they have ample seating both inside and outside with lovely outdoor lighting and a serene neighborhood surrounding the cafe.

Yelp
Came here on a quest to find new coffee spots in Santa Cruz. I was greeted by such a kind barista and I ordered a hot chai latte with oatmilk! The space was so cute and very open with lots of natural light. The drink itself was pretty sweet so I'd maybe ask for a pump less of sweetener but otherwise it was one of the best chais I've had in a long time! Can't wait to try out the other menu options :)

Daisy M.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service! Their breakfast burritos are amazing and I really enjoyed their iced vanilla latte and the creamy beige. Cafe is cute and hip, lots of seating and cool murals on the walls.

Mia Y.

Yelp
I was in the area for a lil SC day trip and needed a coffee before heading to the beach. I've heard of this place as it was recommended by a lot of my friends!! The girl who took our order was so sweet and she had so many good recommendations. I got the creamy beige and I have to say it was one of the best coffees I've EVER had. It was sweet and milky with a good coffee presence and the cocoa powder on top- chefs kiss. I would drive all the way back to Santa Cruz just for this coffee. What a treat!!! You must get the creamy beige!!

Byron B.

Yelp
What neat little spot to eat outside and enjoy the air. The place is very open and feels clean and welcoming. The parking is a little interesting as you need to park in the front/ street or pull into the back. I got a mocha and c&c breakfast burrito. The burrito was pretty amazing. I would have liked some red salsa with it / a little hotter but again just my own thing... it was bomb! The mocha was flavorful and delicious! It has a cinnamon Flav The place appears to be dog friendly as they have a water bowl for ur fury friend.

Ruby T.

Yelp
The burrito was fantastic. The coffee (hot latte with chai) was good, a little overpriced; $20. They had "autogratuity" and asked for a tip. The line was out the door and they were quite busy. We waited 30 minutes for the food, the burrito was definitely worth the wait. Fun environment, make sure to get there before they close! Will be back for the burrito, could skip the coffee next time. $$

Jasmine T.

Yelp
this is one of my favvvv places ever. they have the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. The potatoes & bacon bites in it are so crunchy. I believe they also have a veggie version! The green sauce was also so creamy & a bit sweet. Couldn't get enough! I think this is the only location that sells the Breakfast Burritos. I also ordered the Creamy Beige & it for sure was creamy and reminded me of a milkshake or smoothie. Perfect for the summer weather! It was sweet and also has condensed milk. I downed it so fast I was contemplating on buying a second one. There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating. We worked here for a few hours but couldn't find any outlets. Not sure if they were just hiding. There's lots of parking in the lot so that's not an issue & it's a few minutes from the beach! The service is also pretty fast considering they're busy & the staff is SO nice. Definitely won't be the last time coming here!

Sobella I.

Yelp
Umami melt hella good fresh and lemony, and also got a creamy beige already downed half. Yummy big back activities

Olya D.

Yelp
I really enjoy their coffee. Today we got a cappuccino and an oat milk latte. Those and a croissant were $16 + tip. But it's so good! Definitely can't do this on a daily basis as I'd go broke but a nice treat on the weekends. Their parking lot is small and usually packed but every time I get here someone is leaving so seems like people don't hang for too long. Worst case scenario you can park on the road and walk a couple minutes.

Alex P.

Yelp
Burnt bitter coffee nice service but I regret it. Taste bad didn't even drink it. Not sure if I got a burnt pot or what not. But not good

Ting Ting E.

Yelp
So nice that this lovely place opens at 6:30am. Love the color scheme and range of furniture (booth like seats, cushioned chairs, bar stools/tables, wooden seat bistro chairs). Came here early for a working session, and it was beautifully quiet. It started getting busy/a little loud by 8am. It was packed with a long line inside by 8:30am, though eavesdropped that it seemed more crowded than usual. As for food, I got a croissant (which was GIANT but a little soft, like Costco croissants) and a coconut cream tea. Both were great. Other remote working conditions: - No outlets - Comfy chairs

Nasha P.

Yelp
The place is cute and we went on a really nice day, as you can see in the photo with the window. My brother and I shared a breakfast burrito and the waffles. The waffles were nice and crisp with the blueberry compote but the burrito didn't have any flavor at all. The other people in my party had the vegan and vegetarian one, I tried the vegetarian and it was equally flavorless. They seem to be more famous for their coffee, so try that.

Joy A.

Yelp
Cat & Cloud is an adorably whimsical cafe with a modern, upscale feel suited to either chatting over a bite with a friend or getting some work done. The natural lighting makes a pleasant atmosphere, and a cohesive aesthetic threaded together by the signature turquoise/rose color scheme and decor lends a relaxing, creative vibe. Coffee selections are excellent and reasonably priced. Someone sitting next to us highly recommended the breakfast burrito, which he had ordered, and it looked amazing. Sam, who was our barista, was friendly, giving eye contact, smiles, and a genuine sense of interest, and knowledgeable, able to explain the menu items and highlight key details about different coffees I asked about. 13/10 would recommend!

Christopher S.

Yelp
Don't normally venture to the Westside but heard this CC has the best breakfast burrito. It's a pretty popular spot but luckily parking is free and lots of room. Service is kind and friendly! I will say the coffee here is average. Burrito was 4 stars as I got plenty of egg and bacon, and the bacon is high quality. It's a good sized burrito. However next time I'm going to go with no chipotle sauce as that really threw me for one with the flavoring. Doesn't mix with the hickory smoked bacon. Enjoyed the avo salsa that came with it but I'd get two of the to go cups of it because I ran out half way through. Pricing here is a little much though. $18 for a coffee and breakfast burrito w/ avo better blow me away and it just didn't do it.

Emeline F.

Yelp
I would say their food is delicious but I exclusively eat the breakfast burrito (which also has an excellent vegetarian version) because it's so good it's not worth trying anything else. (Okay that's an exaggeration, I've had a couple pastries which were also excellent.) A breakfast burrito is about $15 after tax. Coffee is one of their areas of expertise, but I'm not a coffee drinker. You can get $1 refills of eat-in coffee. I also recommend their chai. Service is fast and the lines move quickly even when busy. The ambience is nice, though it gets very busy and I've noticed the music being too loud for my taste before. Sitting outside on a nice day is pretty close to heaven. Furniture inside is not ideal, the backed of the booths are a little awkward, and the fabric on the chairs looks like it could use a good clean. There's usually plenty of off street parking available, but actually cafe seating can be hard to get.

Malia S.

Yelp
Ever wonder about what your future looks like? You might not be the crazy cat lady, but after visiting Cat & Cloud coffee may have you thinking otherwise.... Walking in i was instantly drawn to the cute, modern, and welcoming atmosphere Cat & Cloud Coffee has. Seating arrangements go from regular square tables, to bar side tables along the window (my favorite), and if i do remember correctly they do have a small couch area, but please don't quote me on that. Staff was greeting and acknowledging people coming in and out which i really do appreciate making us first time visitors feel more comfortable. I had ordered a Paleo latte, not sure what any of that means, BUT my oh my this is so far one of my favorite places to study at as their drinks, service, and pastries are all AMAZING. While checking out, the cashier had recommended the almond croissant had me as thought i had a one night stand and ... and incomparable to all the other... (croissants) I've had. The crossant was flatly, but try, and had minimal almond filling which made it perfect for a nice quick study snack. Now that I've tried these croissants, i often dream about them and ask myself,"damn am i going to find any....better than that again. I've officially been croissant-atized. I'm down bad for these croissants spending most of my time during the day dreaming about my next bite. You guys all know I'll be back soon, but can't forget.... thank you so much to the team at Cat and Cloud coffee for being so friendly, informative, and caring.

Brittney G.

Yelp
This compared to the experiences at the Cat and Cloud off 41st this was an awful experience. We along with the couple in front of us have been waiting for 45 mins for a breakfast burrito. We could see them piled up on the griddle for at least 30 mins. The staff was so unapologetic as we nicely approached them about it.

Alexandra H.

Yelp
My bf and I visited Cat and Cloud on the Westside during the weekend. It was busy, which is a great sign. He ordered a black coffee and I ordered a Oatmilk Latte with Honey. My latte was very delicious. The service was very friendly and the ambiance was very unique. There are plenty of tables inside and outside. We always enjoyed a breakfast burrito which was a little pricey, and tasted okay. I would like to try other items on their menu.

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Four stars for coffee, three stars for wait/efficiency The coffee at C&C is topnotch. It'll be a little more acidic than some of the mass market coffee chains and not as caffeine-laden as the neighboring Verve. The closest comparison I can think of is Philz. If you're a bit adventuresome, try the Creamy Beige. They describe it as "like a milkshake with espresso." It's how I imagine a caffeinated cloud would taste. Or go for one of the paleo options - IMHO the mocha is better than the latte. Oddly I've never had the food but it looks good -- both on the menu and on the plates nearby. It's a nicely decorated airy room with a few tables outside. Staff are always friendly. My chief complaint is they need more baristas -- the line is long no matter when I show up. Expect 20min waits on weekends.

Robert V.

Yelp
Perfect place for people to gather to grab coffee or a quick bite. As you're pulling up to the location it'll be near some train tracks with a huge parking area in the back of the building. It has a very industrial look with high ceilings and exposed ventilation and delivery sized window opening to let a beautiful amount of air and sun to come in. Their menu is small and makes it easy to decide what to grab. We mainly came for the breakfast burritos as they have minced up crispy potatoes with thick cut cubed bacon and fluffy eggs inside that make the burrito very hearty. It pairs surprisingly well with their creamy avocado salsa (I'm not big on sauces but this is good) As for coffee, I was recommended the Vanilla Latte because it was what the cashier said was popular and she wasn't wrong. It came iced and was very creamy, couldn't have been any happier. My girlfriend had gotten the Creamy Beige and the details don't lie IT TASTE LIKE A MILK SHAKE. So good. The ambience is very chill too, a lot of people casually working or catching up with each other. Will definitely be coming back and getting a burrito to either chill or go to the beach.

Alex H.

Yelp
the food is SO good here, it just takes a bit but is worth it. the coffee itself is meh, but the staff is really nice.

Suzie L.

Yelp
Flat white Very grateful to find a friendly barista who knew how to make a flat white. This is one of the best coffees we've had in California.

Shaima C.

Yelp
Cat and cloud is such a cool coffee shop. Someone recommended this spot to my fiancé and man, I'm so glad we stopped by! The baristas were so friendly, I ended up getting a oat milk latte and she recommended honey and cinnamon, which I went along with. The latte was perfectly made, the honey had a floral taste, which made the latte so much better. If you're ever in the area, check it out!

Kayla C.

Yelp
Delicious food and drinks, but best of all is the costumer service! I ordered a breakfast burrito this morning and it turns out it wasn't submitted properly by the cashier, so the order never got to the kitchen. When I asked one of the staff members, Lauren, if she could check on the timing and she discovered the issue, she was so kind and apologetic and offered a gift card. Everyone here is always so friendly and wonderful. Highly recommend this spot!

Caleb B.

Yelp
If you're disabled with a service animal don't come here. Didn't have my certificate on me & because of that manager told me that my service dog & I had to leave. My pup had her vest on, simply didn't have the certificate. Manager gave some bogus health department requirements - been in food industry for a decade to know that's just a lie.

Wanda G.

Yelp
OH YEAH five stars for CCC!!! I've been wanting to come here for a long time and had it saved in my bookmarks. Finally made it here this past weekend. LOVED IT. The vibe is amazing - great music, happy chatter, cool decor and murals. Lots of outdoor and indoor seating. Super friendly wait staff and baristas. Couldn't have been a better visit. The number one thing I have to say is that the hot chocolate is the best hot chocolate I've ever tasted in my life!!! (And I'm old) We ordered a latte (10/10), Hot chocolate (12/10) and the waffles. The waffles were great- berry compote, orange zest and lots of fresh butter. YUM. We saw some breakfast burritos walk by and they looked like mack trucks. Overall a wonderful visit and we can't wait to come back.

Lucas S.

Yelp
Let me just say, this is the BEST breakfast burrito I've ever had. Beyond the perfectly cooked main ingredients, the sauce and the salsa on the side take this dish to a level previously unbeknownst to mankind. Needless to say I fucked that shit up in less than 8 minutes. Beyond that, the coffee/drink menu is large enough to have variety, but small enough to feel specialized. The service was great, and a huge staple of this place seems to be how enthusiastically the baristas call out the names - it made me and my party feel special, as if it was our collective 16th birthday, the type of feeling that Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" evokes. I loved it, and any chance I get I will return. I love you. Signing off.

Kristina K.

Yelp
Cat and Cloud is one of my favorite coffee shops. They have the cutest designs, delicious coffee and tasty sandwiches. I love taking visitors as they always make their cup of coffee extra fun with designs in the foam. The breakfast burrito is the BEST I have tried on the peninsula. It's got a great eating area both inside and outside.

Sienna W.

Yelp
I literally come here just for the food sometimes, not even coffee. Genuinely the best breakfast burrito I have ever had! Consistently delicious every time I go, and super yummy avocado toast (that vinaigrette omg). Decently priced and so so yummy, do yourself a favor and try it out!!

Dee C.

Yelp
This place has some of the best coffee I've had in ages. Decided to randomly pull over because I saw a line and it looked neat. So glad I did. I've been waiting till I can come back to SC just for another latte from here. I had the vanilla latte which was baller and my husband had the mocha. Both were superb. As a coffee snob I don't say this lightly.

Pam D.

Yelp
Really great ambiance. Friendly. And super good coffee and teas. Food menu is fun. Love the overnight oats and pastries. There is a bit of spice in the yogurt parfait that was too much for me. Also when it is cold out, the indoor space is cramped.
