Where to Drink Coffee in Northampton, Massachusetts | Eater Boston

"A small, uncluttered cafe with a bright leaf-print wall and a calm, quiet vibe that serves dark and light roasts in the morning and brings on a medium roast in the afternoon; owned by the same family behind Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters and stocked with baked goods from a sibling bakery (Tart Baking Co.), it offers a concise food menu featuring breakfast sandwiches and notable specialty items such as an espresso tonic." - Aaron Kagan

Catalpa has been a game changer for my husband and I. We are particularly well versed with coffee and we travel frequently. Wherever we go, we look for a great latte, it's just our thing. Catalpa has thus far been pretty unbeatable, the texture, flavor profile and service is always wonderful. The staff is always so friendly and outgoing. I cannot speak to the food aspect because I am gluten free but my daughter really appreciates when they have blueberry muffins! I do wish they offered some gluten free options other than the yogurt parfait and oatmeal, but everything else makes up for that. Miguel particularly has an amazing craft and it's a wonder to me how he makes such a great Mocha. Even our kids love their hot chocolates and brewed iced teas. Try it out, you won't be disappointed!

Tea and coffee from around the world, and tasty treats like scallion biscuits with ham, cheddar, and eggs, or chèvre cheese with blueberries on toast! The croissant reminded me of the ones Panera used to make. It was a bit hard, like it was a day old maybe, but it was tasty. The cookies were perfection, and the matcha was good. Parking out front but it is a busy road and snow banks make it hard to get to the sidewalk right now. They do have automatic doors though!! So cool!

The vibe is lovely, the pastries and beans are good, but their ratios for espresso drinks are really off. I’m not sure if they’re just trying to cram too many shots into their drinks, or if they’re burning their espresso, or both, but their lattes and cappuccinos end up tasting bitter and aggressively strong. I absolutely love strong coffee, and if this was being done well I would love it, but something is off and the drinks aren’t well-balanced. I hope they make adjustments, because it would be a really lovely, top-tier place if they did!

Great coffee. And extra bonus points for being one of the very few places in the neighborhood of the train station that actually lets someone use the restroom even if they are not a customer. A. rare and much appreciated courtesy these days.

My go-to coffee shop. In NOHO. Only negative is not being able to bring my dog inside!

Capitala Coffee is way to expensive for what they offer. I got a Ham Egg and Cheese sandwich and a Hibiscus Tea. The Hibiscus Tea was fine, you can get just as good a Hibiscus Tea at Starbucks. The Sandwich was awful, they only make them in the morning so if you go for a lunch in to get food don’t go to this place. They only make their sandwiches in the morning where at Starbucks you can get them fresh any time. The bread was atrocious, it was hard and the ham was like chewing on rubber, and I spent 12$ on the whole order. Overall the attitudes of the employers are very monotone and if thats your speed thats fine, but theirs no personality. Overall Capitala coffee is way to expensive for subpar coffee and bad food, and you can get breakfast or lunch anywhere for just as much and the food is actually fresh. I am shocked I even have to say that as a customer I want fresh food when I pay for it.

Quality in coffee and service has definitely declined since my last visit. Very over priced for sub par espresso, cold sandwiches, and unwelcoming staff this morning.

So sad. This was my absolute go to place for a delicious treat. The Almond Croissants were AMAZING. I guess they have a new baker😕. I’ve been twice in the last couple months and both times I couldn’t even eat what I got. The croissant was like a donut. I called and the barista was super apologetic. I hope they remedy the situation. This was the best pastry spot in town.
