Catskill Brewery Review - Livingston Manor - Hudson Valley - The Infatuation

"This is where you go to drink the best beer in the Catskills, the Devil’s Path IPA. It tastes much better here than in Yankee Stadium (where they also serve it on draft). They have a picnic area outside and a small bar inside. Bring your dog and maybe some food from Main Street Farm to eat outside—or just keep going up to the bar for free refills of popcorn." - Hannah Albertine

I went here after a hike for the first time. I will not be returning. For the first time in my life I was surrounded by a bar that was filled with children. I don’t mind people bringing their kids to breweries, my friends do it all the time. However sitting at the bar is not the place for them. Sit at the picnic tables, chairs, tables. Not the bar. I didn’t come to a brewery to be around kids. There were kids everywhere. The bartender with the short bangs was less than friendly to every person in my group. The beer was trash. Should have read some untapped reviews prior to ordering. Ordered the Berry sour and devils path IPA. Dumped the sour in the trash. There was some live music and a food truck. The 15$ hamburger at the food truck was well worth the money. Delicious. Go elsewhere.

Our first stop at Catskill. Totally loved the brewery. it is pretty tiny and when we visited, they were only a couple of folks. We sat inside next to where the beer hops. Our bartender was super nice and welcoming, and he gave us a lot of local recommendations as well. I tried the sour beer, which was honestly my favourite beer from the brewery. My friends like their beer too. It’s a lovely place to have a couple of points in a cozy atmosphere. Definitely come here.

Great beers. But a little chilly in there. Love the merch selection too

Very homey place. Small inside, but also has outdoor seating. Dog friendly. Great atmosphere. On-site food truck that has a fantastic blackened chicken sandwich. A must!

Stopped in here for a refresher and break from the rain on our way back from Bethel. Small sampling area but Jackie was great behind the bar. Made us feel very welcome and gave us a knowledgeable run down on the tap selection. Beers were excellent!

I stopped in here this past Friday afternoon 6/6. Was their first customer. I’m all about finding new breweries but have had their beer before, locally, so I knew what to expect. However, was able to taste their other brews. They all were excellent. Grass Wagon, Rat Face McDougal to name a couple, were excellent. I purchased about 10 4-packs and gave a lot of it out to friends and family to spread the word. This is an excellent brewery. Wanted to try Flood watch, but were sold out, maybe next time. Then there is the food truck. Had a burger with truffle fries. Both excellent, especially the garlic aioli dip. My only one recommendation, bigger menu in the food truck if possible. Need more options. Quesadilla’s if possible or a giant soft pretzel with beer cheese. Mmmm. Anyway will be back soon, it’s about an hour and 20 min ride but well worth it. Will be attending some concerts at Bethel woods this summer, which is about 15-20 mins away. Plan to hit up the brewery before.

Google
Cool brewery in woods with an awesome raccoon logo and lots of outdoor seating. Unfortunately it was 90+ the day I came here with my wife and daughter. But good thing…the beer was great. And cold. I like the IPAs. And this brewery had a really good one. The #3 hazy 7.5 ABV one. They also had a mobile fancy pizza oven parked outside. My Hawaiian-style prosciutto and pineapple wood-fired pie was worth the $25 price tag. Almost. Ambiance score: 8, Beer quality: 8/9, Food: 7 (mobile truck only), Activities/Seating: 7/8, Branding: 9. Closeness to route 17: 10.

Google
Great Burger and items locally sourced! Truffle fries the best. A unique experience.! Stop by and get some! Say hey to Chef Eddie!

Yelp
We wanted a good place to eat during our road trip, so I was really excited when I found this place on Yelp. We followed the signs to the ample parking across the street and walked over to the brewery. Although beer isn't usually my top drink of choice, the awesome bartenders helped me find their Ball Lightning Pilsner that wasn't too heavy or hoppy. My hubby got a blonde ale that he liked. They also keep cups for the water tap at the bar. Many customers ordered the beer flights to try a little bit of everything. Although the food truck wasn't open until 1:00, so we headed to the outdoor area to check things out. There was a large game tent, a little bonfire semicircle, and many options for seating wrapping around the gravel pathway. We were able to place our food order through the website even before the food truck officially opened. (Once the window was open, we made sure they saw the order, which they printed.) I ordered the Smoked Trout Rillette, especially after seeing the giant sourdough loaves that we saw them bringing to the truck from the kitchen. It was a delicious spread! The truck even checked in with us as we finished the meal to be sure we were happy with everything. This was a perfect break during our road trip. The service was great and we enjoyed the experience. They also have really nice bathrooms here. I'd definitely stop by again!

Yelp
Cute and cozy. The interior was smaller than I had imagined but the beer was really good. The service was good and the bartender was prompt and ready to fill my glass. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Clara T.

Yelp
Beer is pretty good... too bad the staff are assholes. Specifically the blond girl in braids who can't be bothered to be asked any questions about the beer. Some advice : maybe leave your hipster attitude in Brooklyn and I'll get your beer to go instead ... or maybe I'll go down the road to the next 2 breweries that just opened up.

Yelp
Pilsner is real Best brewery in the the Catskill Bringing home some cans too Looking forward to see Jackie again

Chris R.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, good beer. Food truck was good as well. Worth a stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
We came here to try out something new in our neighboring County. Pretty chill spot, we cam eon a Saturday. There was live music & the outside space is very comfortable. The don't do beer flights but let u taste whatever you would like on the menu. We had pilsner, a very light kolsch(too light) and saison, pretty good. We came on a day where there was no food, but no worries, there's a small town with some options and another brewery about a mile away with food. I wouldn't mind coming again to have food & different beer
google avatar

Masha M.

Yelp
Love this place! Beer is great, live music, even the crowed is a pleasure, it's dog friendly, all outside. The staff is super nice and helpful. There's a food truck, food is great, it was perfect!

J B.

Yelp
When in Roscoe... cute spot! The vibes were oddly stuffy in there. Once we got outside, I was happy as a clam.
google avatar

Mini K.

Yelp
Atmosphere: pretty cute with lots of sitting but feels more backyard like with not much open space like some brewery I have been to. Food: I didn't have the food truck food so can't comment on that but beers were refreshing and good.

Chris L.

Yelp
Ummmm, best place ever. I've known the Catskill Brewery for a few years and it's a good vibe, good friends, good ownership, good management, just good people doing good thangs. I'm bi-coastal and am currently in the South Bay of LA (Redondo Beach), and I miss the Catskill Brewery when I'm not in town. If you haven't been, go visit... if you have been, then you know why I say this. Love y'all.

Yelp
We love stopping at Catskill Brewery whenever we are in the area! We visited in March during the winter, and they had a really cozy tent set up outside with a wood burning fireplace, Adirondack chairs, picnic tables with blankets and games, and some great decor. The beer is always top notch & the atmosphere is up our alley-- with locals always frequenting and starting friendly discussions, an atmosphere of warmth and not too touristy. We will continue to be back!

Yelp
Came in with my girlfriend when we were taking a weekend trip to the Catskills. Wonderful beers and incredible service behind the bar. We both really enjoyed an IPA called Devil's path and I personally loved the farmhouse ale as not a lot of brewery's make that style of beer. There was a delicious food truck with brick oven pizza that was cooked just right and paired wonderfully with the beer. We will definitely be back next time we are in town!
google avatar

Yelp
The beers are REALLY good. Small tasting room, but worth the trip. Freak Tractor was our favorite, the IPA, Blonde and dark larger are also splendid.

Yelp
Drove up here early Sunday afternoon to get away from the sun for a while. Easily able to find parking with available spaces both on site and across the street. Unlike the parking, the seating area for the taproom leaves more to be desires. Outside, there's some wooden benches/tables under a tent, which isn't all that inviting. Inside, there is some bar seating as well as some ledge seating. For drafts - beers range from $5-8 depending on what you get. Good options, really liking the "Eye of Newt" Sour and Citra Pale Ale. I also got one of the Crowlers ($9) to go, but realized it wasn't filled properly when I got home. Not the friendliest bartenders I've seen, and I wish the crowler was done correctly, but they were quick in getting orders out. Overall okay brewery to get a drink and some free popcorn.

Yelp
Wish I could leave a 4.5. All 11 beers were solid!! Tasted good. Not all were something I would choose a full pint of, but I enjoyed tasting all of them. High quality of product, and the styles are all done well! Popcorn at the bar is a great touch. Dog friendly inside as there is no kitchen. Lack of seating is only downside - way more group friendly if it was warm outside.

Yelp
Love the angry raccoon logo- so much purchased a canvas bag! IPAs were delish. Small seating area but friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
As a native of Asheville, NC...I know beer. What I love about Catskill Brewery and its place among small town breweries is that it could get away with being good enough...but it goes above and beyond and provides the town and surrounding villages with absolutely wonderful beer. They have the kind of beer true beer snobs and casual consumers can all enjoy together. The offerings are on a rotation, depending on what's currently being made in-house. Some of my favorites include: - Ball Lightning (a wonderfully crisp pilsner) - Nightshine (a bold, dark black lager that's just about perfect) - Devil's Path (an IPA that doesn't bite like a bitter IPA...and it's 7.5% ABV) - Helles Bock (only available seasonally - and well worth the wait) Grab a growler and fill up at the bar with some popcorn and a few pints...then take the beer home where it'll last for a few days if kept cold. Check the website for a schedule of live music on weekends. Asheville may have quantity when it comes to hometown breweries...but it's impossible to ignore the quality of Catskills Brewery. Livingston Manor is lucky to have them!

Yelp
Had a couple flights. All pretty good. Would love to see a NEIPA here! Flights were priced good too. Very cool vibe as with all breweries!

Todd T.

Yelp
We took an afternoon off while up fishing in the area and stopped in for a beer. Dee was great behind the bar and we really enjoyed the stop. I had a flight of the different IPA's and they were all really tasty. I would definitely recommend stopping in if you are in the area.

Andrew E.

Yelp
Nice beer, nice people, nice venue. I usually fill a growler and fish the great local rivers. Food truck is a little underwhelming. Again nice people. Sandwich is a little light and the side salad is just a taste. Tasty brisket tho!

Yelp
Had a very lackluster experience there on Saturday, May 22. Beer was fine, but not particularly good. The food truck (also owned by Catskill Brewery) was a VERY disappointing experience. We waited in line behind 3 other people, and that alone took 15 minutes. That should have been our first red flag, but the food truck was advertising Maine oysters from 4 different suppliers, and I'll never pass up that's opportunity. Once it was finally our turn to order, the guy behind the register said that they "don't have oysters right now." Disappointed, we opted for the tacos, a couple chicken and some pork carnitas. After we ordered, our tacos took a full hour and 20 minutes before they were ready. I was fully convinced that they were still raising the chickens while we waited. I cannot understand for the life of me how it could take an hour and 20 minutes to prepare 5 tacos. Also worth noting, by the time our tacos finally arrived, people who'd ordered after us were receiving their orders of oysters. This would have been helpful information to know over an hour earlier. Sure, the brewery was a little busy, but it wasn't packed. It was a full week before Memorial Day weekend, so they're not even at peak season yet. I shudder to think of how many collective hours other folks will waste over the course of the summer. I, for one, will not be returning. The beer was decent at best, and there are plenty of other great locations in the area. I give the review 2 stars out of respect for the fact that once our tacos were finally ready, they were indeed quite good... but no better than a gas station taco joint in Texas.

Yelp
Great beers and they had a food truck on site. Very nice place to get away for an afternoon. The staff was friendly and they give away the NY bs required snacks for free.

Yelp
Perfect place to beer lovers. Totally recommend. Tangerine was my favorite. Shrimp coconut so tasty!!!

Jillian M.

Yelp
I came here for a road break in the snow and all I can say was Alyssa was amazing! Great personality and had great recommendations! I'll be back every time I see my family now because of her. The beer was amazing and the merchandise is super cool! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is an excellent brewery with really top-notch brews. I enjoyed their stout most of all, but everything we tasted was outstanding. Their tap room is nice, although seating is a bit limited. They do have a lot of space outside with tables, etc. and I am sure it's a fun place to enjoy a beer or two when the weather is warmer. They're dog friendly, and have a great music selection too! One note - Catskill Brewery does not serve food (although they gave everyone popcorn at the bar), so make sure you eat before you get here or bring something along to enjoy when there!
google avatar

Julian N.

Yelp
Huge fan of the Catskill Brewery. These beers have come a long way over the years and they keep getting better and better. If given the chance to stop in for a beer, I highly suggest it. The staff is super friendly and helpful to those that aren't familiar with their beer. They have apparel onsite for purchase and the have growlers, crowlers, and now cans to go. I'm a huge fan and I always stop in when I'm in Livingston Manor.
google avatar

Yelp
Dear Mr. Greg L. Of null (?)...thanks for replying to my less than great experience. I'm sure you are "proud of your staff" however....maybe a manager should oversee staff acting in an unprofessional manner while stuffing a hoagie down their throats and acting annoyed by waiting patrons. Perhaps some bartender, customer service training is in order and again I state...there is more to just pouring a beer. I thank you for your response (4 months later)...seems fitting w/my experience wouldn't you say?

Yelp
Really great brewery directly off of route 17. Nice place to break up your drive to the Catskills mountains or fishing towns. The only food they have is popcorn but it's a brewery so come for the beer. Delicious beer: I had the coffee stout and it was excellent. Really helpful and accommodating staff. There isn't much seating inside (10-12 bar seats) but there are picnic benches outside which are perfect to enjoy a gorgeous day outside with a fresh, cold, beer.

Beth R.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. All the beers were delicious. The outdoor seating area is relaxing, beautiful and well maintained. Would love to visit in a weekend when the food truck is open.
google avatar

Justin T.

Yelp
The brewery looks gorgeous and the beer is good. I only tried the stout, myself, because I only had a half hour free and it took fifteen minutes for anyone to even acknowledge I was there.
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
Tried every beer they had to offer with two of my cousins. All three of us were blown away by how good it was. My cousin Thomas was a huge fan of Devils Path and Johnny loved the Helles Bock. My favorites were Flood Watch IPA and Sour Style. The sour style was easily the most unique and tastey brew I've ever had, no exaggeration. Headed back to the Catskills with my ex this coming friday only to leave her with her family, fill my growlers and drink more of this godly beer. The peaceful atmosphere and friendly staff were a plus. Every time I'm in the area I'll be coming back for more. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Lissette F.

Yelp
We came to this brewery because it was listed as one of the top 3 in the area. We went for the experience and we were highly disappointed. The space to actually have a drink is tiny. Only about 10 people can sit at a time. There's barely enough room for 20 people to stand there comfortably. The people behind the bar acted like they didn't want to be there. We had no idea on how to order drinks (regarding flights) and the girl at the counter acted like it was a huge task to help. As a matter of fact another couple came in and WE had to explain to THEM how to order a flight as she told them nothing. The atmosphere was not welcoming. The drinks were good- but again the ambiance was not there and if I had any advice, I'd say save your trip and go somewhere else.
google avatar

Tara P.

Yelp
Love Freak Tractor! Great brewery in a great little up and coming town! They have indoor and outdoor seating! Dog friendly, a food truck, and free popcorn!

Jenna V.

Yelp
My friends and I came here for some beers during my bachelorette weekend and it was amazing!! Alyssa was by far one of the nicest people I have ever met and she treated us like her only customers! They had an amazing outdoor set up with tables and a huge tent that had even more seating, plus the beer was delicious. They had a food truck that had a variety of tacos, burritos, and bowls that were so delicious as well. If you're in the area and enjoy beer this place is a must!!
google avatar

Zoe G.

Yelp
Besides having a rotating selection of fine craft beer, it is a pleasure to visit this LEED certified brewery which plays on the theme of the Catskill mountains and our pristine environment. Very dog friendly and attracts an interesting variety of human patrons as well who seem to readily engage in lively conversation especially on the subjects of fishing and hiking which are the added attractions of the region. The brewery can get really crowded on weekends especially when the weather is too cold to sit outside! Excellent fresh beer and ales with new selections weekly to keep things interesting for the many repeat customers.

Yelp
Catskill Brewery is by far, the best brewery I have ever been to. Although their beer is terrific,in taste and variety, I believe it takes more than great beer to make a fine Establishment: My learned opinion. Staff have the knowledge to answer patrons inquires about each variety. And they do it well. Honestly, I never observed any hesitation or reluctance in responding.(Now pay attention: I in NO WAY get paid-ha!-or offered reduced rates,or a free t shirt. Staff do put up with my constant chatter about local l history, Irving Berlin, Kate Smith and consumption of great popcorn). Because I fly fish at various times on the nearby Willowemac and Beaverkill rivers my visits very much vary. So, not a visit goes by that within no time at all, customers are chatting to each other about a most infinite variety of subjects except...politics! The bar, probably by chance,is situated to encourage communication. This Brewery is a Mecca for group therapy fans. I'm almost done. But for everything,Catskill Brewery produces excellent beer. But I best leave with just one sort of minor criticism: At 75yrs.my taste for music is not satisfied there, but I endure the music because the crowd likes it. Mozart would agree with me. Go there. You will Enjoy. Just lift your flight, don't drag it!
google avatar

Marco R.

Yelp
Fantastic brewery. The beer lineup was exceptional, with all five beers I tried being winners. The tap room is small and intimate, right on the brew floor. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the local patrons were fun to chat with. All around a great experience!!

Douglas B.

Yelp
Quaint brewery with an intimate setting . Beer flights are reasonable and the products are excellent. Staff is friendly and just nice people. Definitely a must stop when in the area
google avatar

Krina S.

Yelp
Very cool place! Huge and gorgeous brewing warehouse inside, with about 6 or 7 beers on tap (I think at least 4 were IPAs). The staff seemed pretty nice and friendly. They charge $1 per sample which I found a bit off-putting because I've never seen that done at any bar or brewery. A glass of beer is $5 and they do give you some free popcorn, so I guess it kind of evens out. They have 32 oz and 16 oz growlers, and tons of other t-shirt swag for purchase. Maybe enough room for like 8 people to sit at the "bar", but then there are a few benches outside as well. Worth a stop!

Meagan D.

Yelp
We enjoy the wonderful afternoons spent at the brewery! My favorite is the Darby's, perfectly hazy with a delicious finish! The facility has social distance guidelines with sanitation stations that make everyone feel very comfortable!
google avatar

Martha F.

Yelp
Beer was exceptional. Bartender was not...unfriendly. We liked the nightshade lager especially. One odd aspect was that only certain beers were available to have in a flight. Got the rest as samples though.
google avatar

Dimitri S.

Yelp
Great brewery in Livingston Manor. Tasty brews in a fun open setting to try their locally made concoctions. There is an outside area with benches as well if you'd like to enjoy your beer al fresco. Growlers available to go at a reasonable rate (I wish I had a larger fridge!). Looking forward to next time I'm up there.
google avatar

Rob A.

Yelp
Definitely stop by when you're in the neighborhood, which is probably not going to be very random given where it is located. Really terrific craft beer, and it's cool to check out the brewery which is basically right in front of you as you sit at the bar. Seriously good beer, go enjoy
google avatar

Rachael D.

Yelp
Really awesome brewery. Appreciate the beautiful landscape and detail oriented ambiance of rustic modern style brew house. They even have a pinball machine if you bring your kids. The beer is outstanding! Floodwatch is a nice aromatic IPA without hard bitter tones that I sometimes cringe. The 'freak tractor' is a wild yeast with some unique sweet malty deliciousness. If you live anywhere near here and like good beer I'd highly suggest a visit.

Tessa S.

Yelp
We enjoyed a great beer here on a late summer afternoon. The gentleman who served us went out of his way to be hospitable when taking care of us, which was much appreciated during these Covid times! The service was generous, the beer delicious, and the view gorgeous. I only wish we could've spent more time here.
google avatar

April H.

Yelp
The beers are decent, but nothing amazing. They make at least 2 or 3 IPAs and I'm not really an IPA fan, so that might be skewing my review. One unique brew is their sour plum which is definitely sour! But, there's a nice outdoor area with picnic tables where you can chill as you sample. The inside is what you'd expect - part warehouse, part bar. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
google avatar

Nicholas G.

Yelp
Nice selection of beers on tap inside the brewery. Had a delicious saison and was happy to take home a growler full to enjoy later.
