New Potential Legacy Business Resolution to Help Protect San Francisco Restaurants and Shops Against Eviction - Eater SF

"Petaluma steakhouse Cattlemens announced that it will close at the end of the year. The restaurant has been a part of the North Bay since its opening in 1970, and with its closure, there will be just seven locations left in California. The three acres where Cattlemens is located were purchased by a Los Angeles developer and will be demolished to make way for a Chick-fil-A." - Dianne de Guzman

"Steakhouse mini-chain Cattlemens announced its Petaluma location will shutter as of Tuesday, December 31, the Press Democrat reports. That particular outpost has been around since 1970, but now the Ferolito family has sold the three-acre property to a developer who has plans to demolish the restaurant and install a Chick-fil-A." - Justine Jones

If someone from out of the country asked me where to go for American food experience, I would without a doubt bring them here! The decor is cute or manly depending who you describe it to. I went with my boyfriend for the Happy Hour and had the Lamb Lollipop (HIGHLIGHT), tacos (feta was interesting but add the jalaps and you’re good), stuffed potato (delicious), ribs (amazing), and the bread was perfectly sour, if I brought a purse I would take some home! Our server was attentive, got our order in quick and was very nice. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
I had the Full rack of Beef ribs. Amazing. Spectacular. They were from giants!! I needed two boxes for the left overs. Service was great. The place was packed and I can see why. I can't belive I never visited this place before. I will be back.

Google
The steak at Cattlemens is truly exceptional. Cooked to perfection with a flavorful char on the outside and tender, juicy meat inside. Definitely one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Highly recommend!"

We want to say Thank You for a wonderful dinner last light celebrating my sons birthday and New Years Eve. Complimentary champagne toast was extra special, dinner was fantastic as it always is. Cattleman's has so many memories for us, it has been a Petaluma mainstay for so long. Thank you for every great birthday, anniversary, prom, date night ect. you have given your guests over the years, your our favorite local restaurant and will be missed.

Google
This place is trash. The calamari was deep fried in dirty oil. The squid was so paper thin. I've never had calamari this terrible. The ribs were dryer than Billy Butchersons mouth. Only the shrimp scampi and mashed were tasty. The steak was a puck even though we ordered medium rare.

Google
We came in during happy hour. We sat at the bar. There were no issues finding seating. The food was great (as always), service was on point! I look forward to going back and dining again.

We had wonderful meal and experience last night. Nelli was our server, she was wonderful and very good with her knowledge and treated us with respect and provided great service. Well done Cattleman's team!

Google
Love an old western steakhouse feel and Cattleman’s doesn’t disappoint. The bottomless salad is awesome, the Ribeye was fantastic and the loaded baked potato was delicious! The service was great and friendly and don’t forget to try the cheesecake (huge slice)!

Yelp
The service is excellent. Except for an occasional birthday celebration, the ambience is comfortable and pleasant. The steaks are not the very highest quality (a bit tough and chewy) so I strongly suggest you order the filet- you can never go wrong with filet mignon! Occasionally, they put regular tomatoes in the salad, which I prefer-- much better than the small cherry tomatoes which are their normal salad ingredient. The butter they serve with their wonderful Italian bread is usually hard and difficult to spread, so get the butter on the warm bread ASAP and hope for the best Order their baked potato without the salt covering, which is also apparently something they think is really good to put on a potato. (It's not- in my opinion) I LOVE the fact that they have crushed black pepper already on the table as a setting! All in all -for a restaurant food chain- Cattlemen's is a great place to go, either by yourself, or with friends or family!

Yelp
So sad to see this place go! I spent every family birthday here for as long as I can remember. The service is always wonderful and you can't beat their happy hour prices. I love the interior decor, especially when they string the lights for the Holidays. I went last night for the final time, and it was such a great experience (as always!). We started in the bar for happy hour, and I got the raspberry lemon drop (my fav off the happy hour menu!). Not too strong and such a great started cocktail. My family and I went all out this time, and ordered four appetizers: calamari, tumbleweed onions, shrimp cocktail, and artichoke cheese dip. The calamari was crispy and yummy as always. I had never had the tumbleweed onions, but I was pleasantly surprised! They were stringy and delicious. The shrimp cocktail is great at Cattlemens, the shrimp is very cold and the cocktail sauce is pretty standard. The artichoke cheese dip was always my favorite appetizer, and I was a little disappointed to see that it was served with chips instead of bread, but I just used the table bread anyway! For my meal I ordered the petite filet with fries as a side (because I, once again, eat like a child). The steak can honestly be pretty hit or miss, but this time it was very tender and flavorful. The fries have always been a favorite of mine there, so they're always a go-to for me! For dessert my mom and I love splitting the fried apple pie (If we have enough room). My brother has a dairy allergy and is usually left out of a lot of desserts, but the waitress went out of her way to make sure he got something by bringing him some crushed oreos to snack on. It was so sweet and that was always the kind of service we got at Cattlemens. I highly recommend visiting before it closes. See y'all in Rohnert Park!
google avatar

Devin S.

Yelp
I was contaced by the Business Manager for the restaurant, who also works for the Rohnert Park location (same owners from the sounds of it). We were encouraged to give the Rohnert Park location a try. We did and it was much much better. I would say it's better for families and certainly less chaotic than Petaluma. My previous comments about the Petaluma location stand and driving by it yesterday on the highway, the parking lot was still jam packed. But the outreach from Miranda was welcome and greatly appreciated. The Rohnert Park location made it right.

Yelp
Come and get it before it is gone forever. You won't leave this place hungry. Good cuts of steak, and it was cooked to my liking without much hassle. The place has a family vibe to it, great to visit during the holidays. The service was fast, and the waiters were attentive. Maybe not much on the variety side, but still a nice place to visit at least once.

Yelp
I can't believe that this amazing steak house will be replaced with Chick-fil-A soon!! It was my first time here and I told myself I have to come back many times before it's officially closing by 1/1/25!! I made the reservation but there was still about 30 minutes wait which was not an issue. It gave me time to check out the bar and found out they have happy hour from 4 pm till closing Monday to Friday! I had 2 old fashioned and it was good!! I got ribeye which came with warm & delicious sourdough bread, salad and sides. I think I read on the menu that the meat is from Harry's Ranch? I'm not sure but the steak was definitely delicious with perfect charred taste! Service was super nice even though they are so busy! I will miss you!

Yelp
Unfortunately this location has closed or will be closing soon. Luckily we were able to get in and have a great experience on their last few weeks open. The jumbo shrimp and steak were excellent and the portions were so big (with endless salad)! Had great service and couldn't ask for a better last night in California.

Yelp
We went for the first time to the Petaluma location and it was hoppin' (they are closing this location Dec 31) Since we didn't have a reservation we opted to eat in the lounge at a high table. Our server was friendly and swift. She was great with recommendations and we opted for the dinner for two. We were brought a large salad to share each with our own dressing, warm bread, and then our meals. Be sure to go hungry!!! My dining partner had a great steak but my steak was nearly flavorless. Still enjoyed my drink meal and atmosphere.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
My husband and I went at 4 PM when they opened and were told it would be about 10 min. We waited in the bar and had a drink: At 5:20 I went and Inquired and they said it would be 2 hours! They had no record of us coming in an requesting a table at 4:10 Pm. Sadly, we left. Really sorry that would be our last experience at our beloved Cattleman's petaluma after so many years! Nothing but Bimbos at the desk nowadays !! They wouldn't do anything to get us a table sooner!

Yelp
No visits to Sonoma county is complete without a classic steak dinner at cattlemen's. The old western charm takes you back to simpler times with a feast of baked bread, salad, beans, and steak & lobster. A family friendly establishment with a boisterous atmosphere, be prepared for the large groups celebrating. I'm always so impressed with how well the servers manage to flow like clockwork in such tight quarters while keeping their cool, bravo! Thank you for the 30+ years of good memories, you will be missed!

Yelp
One the worst meals of my life . Absolutely the worst steak I've ever had. The ribeye says it's well marbled but in cattleman's speak that is no meat and all gristle and fat. Seriously terrible. The meal was awful nearly any seasonings. Also it was never mentioned that they charge more for bacon on the baked potatoes. The waiter should mention that . I can see why the place is closing. I can't fathom how it's stayed in business so long.

Yelp
Went there tonight Xmas eve been going there Xmas eve for 54 years always great food great service prices not bad compared to other restaurants, nice size meals. Chick fillet will be a waste of space we will never go there hope they can't make it. I and others will miss Cattlemen's. Please open another place close to Petaluma or in Petaluma would be great. Good luck to all employees and well wishes to all.

Yelp
We enjoyed coming to these restaurants as often as we can. We came to the one at Petaluma because our campground was very close by. We saw the sign that said: cocktail six dollars Monday through Friday! Well, little that we knew, and when we were about to sit at a regular place, by the waitress, that we had to be at the bar to collect our six dollar drinks! we complied, but when we got there, the drinks were not the drinks they normally serve, like the cowboy cooler! in my opinion, I wish I would have never seen the sign, because it wasn't worth it. Our waitress, Cindy, was very polite and friendly. I may be crazy, but I think she is the only one that has ever asked me out of Cattlemens if my steak was cooked to perfection. As stated before, I go to all of their restaurants, but I sincerely think this is the first and only time anybody has ever asked me if my steak cooked the way I wanted. we had a good meal, but I was a bit confused because they are serving whole sliced tomatoes, not cherry tomatoes, and they have started to serve alternatives already. They usually serve those wedges in the off-season, but we enjoyed as much as we could of the nice ambience, and a very good server.

Yelp
Had a reunion dinner here. I believe there were 8 of us. I wish I had gotten the waiters name as he was the best. Attentive snd friendly. The food was delicious. Love the salads that come with the meal snd the warm bread that comes with the meal. I ordered the Triple Threat Brochette which was skewers of sirloin steak and peppers marinated in teriyaki sauce sprinkled with sesame seeds. Was delicious, the sirloin was very tender. Two big skewers which I took half my meal home. It was upsetting when Montgomery Village Cattlemens moved to Rohnert Park. But honestly Petaluma was always my favorite.

Yelp
I made a reservation on their website for 2 on a Thursday night to celebrate a birthday. I liked how the online reservation asks if you are celebrating anything whether a birthday or anniversary. I had to change the reservation time to a later time last minute because we realized we could not get up to Petaluma in time due to traffic. It was easy to change the times online and we had no issues with that. I've never dined here before, but the birthday boy wanted to come here, so here we are. We considered getting the Original Steak Dinners for Two that included 2 entrees listed (9 oz prime rib, 6 oz filet mignon, half rack pork ribs, 14oz rib eye, grilled salmon, steak and shrimp scampi) , an appetizer (tumbleweed onions, artichoke cheese dip, jumbo shrimp cocktail) and dessert (deep fried apple pie, cowrie brownie sundae, Pete's pan cookie) that was only $75.99. It was definitely a deal, but we weren't feeling any of the desserts considering I had baked a cake at home. Plus, I am fairly certain he wanted more than 9 oz of prime rib, so we opted to just get everything a la carte instead. Our meals came with sourdough bread to start, salad with our choices of dressings (opted for basalmic), and a side of beans. The bread was good, soft and nicely baked. The salad consisted of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, croutons, shredded carrots and onion. The salad was pretty cold so im pretty sure they store these bowls ready to go considering each entire comes with a salad. The beans were okay, I am not the biggest fan of beans so a bit indifferent for me. To start: the tumbleweed onion starter was HUGE. Priced at $13.99, it came with so much that it was falling off the bowl and onto the table. Honestly, we needed another 2 people to help us finish it all. The tumbleweed onion came with BBQ sauce and Ranch on the side. I ordered my filet mignon medium rare ($30.99) and it was perfect. I felt the 6 oz was just the right amount of meat for me, if I gotten the bigger 10z that was $39.99, I would have definitely had to take the rest home or had him eat it for me. I opted for the garlic fries as my side. Although the garlic fries were delicious and packed with garlic, I had a little bit of regret that I did not get the baked potato instead just because there was a lot of fried food ( tumbleweed onions) on the table. Don't get me wrong, the fries were fried perfectly, and there was so much garlic that they may even beat the ballpark garlic fries at Oracle, it was just a bit too much oil for me in a sitting. The birthday boy ordered the prime rib 12 oz medium rare ($33.99) with mashed potatoes on the side. He enjoyed his dinner and had no issues with it. Although his steak looked more rare than medium rare to me, he was satisfied with what he got. He said he mainly wanted to come here the nostalgic factor as he used to go to Cattlemen's a lot growing up. Considering I have never dined here before, I did not know that when you say you are celebrating something, they come out and start singing to you. Whoops, did I just embarrass him with them bringing a cup of ice cream while singing and giving him a cowboy hat? Why yes.. yes I did. Hahah. It was definitely a day he won't forget. So thank you Cattlemen's for the great service and friendly hospitality! We had a fun time celebrating :)

Yelp
We came for our anniversary dinner. We received a complementary toast of Champagne. We were a party of 3 and there was plenty of food to go around. The price was good and the food was good. I would come back. The location was easy to get to, plenty of parking, and the booths are tall with pricey. Our server was nice and we enjoyed our time

Yelp
Good service and good food. The place is pretty cool I really liked the privacy you get with their design.

Yelp
Let me begin as I have commented in some of my other reviews - it is the staff that can make any place a 5-star eating establishment. This place has top rating not only due to the food, but because of "Cindi B." and her zealous efforts in doing her job. She goes above and beyond to ensure complete customer satisfaction and takes pride in the Cattlemen's brand. The food is superb. We had happy hour drinks and finished our meal with a slice of carrot cake. For happy hour we enjoyed a horseshoe margarita and a raspberry lemon drop. Both were refreshing drinks. For meals we had a Pete's Special Steak. It was cooked to perfection. It included a salad, sourdough bread, vegetable, and a drink of choice. This drink could include a soda, wine,or beer. Pretty nice for one price. My partner enjoyed happy hour appetizers. These were loaded potato skins and prime rib tacos. Each at a good price and quite tasty. While we normally include photos in our reviews, this time when the food arrived, it looked so inviting, we immediately began eating. However, i am including the unlimited salad bowl and ranch dressing that is made by Cattlemens AND a picture of the lemon drop. Most definitely worth the stop. The place is truly country and clean, as well as a relaxing atmosphere.

Yelp
We had a delightful family dinner there Monday night. We have been coming to Cattlemen's practically every time we come to Sonoma County to visit our son and family. I still have a photo of our now high school granddaughter eating a beef rib as a toddler....the rib was practically as big as she was! She still loves those beef ribs! Cattlemen's in Petaluma has always had great steaks and prime rib along with a tasty salad, warm sourdough bread and good sides. The staff is always friendly and tries to make your visit enjoyable,. Sadly, they are supposed to be closing this branch t h end f the year.We will all greatly miss this restaurant that has become practically an institution in Petaluma.

Yelp
Great steak, and exactly as advertised. Really enjoyed the mai tai. Monique was an excellent server.
google avatar

Dave L.

Yelp
The steaks and prime rib are always good at cattlemen. You won't get a piece of bad meat. The piece is cheaper than Ruth Chris. If you are looking for steaks and prime ribs, not the ambiance, plus the Fufu service. This is a good place to dine with the family and save a few hundred bucks.
google avatar

Millie V.

Yelp
Well tonight we ordered T-Bone 20 oz. that was cooked to perfection We've been coming to this restaurant for many years. We love the country western atmosphere here, and we hope they don't close this one because the property is being sold. Our server Megan was very nice. We also had a salad. That's all you can eat with a really good blue cheese dressing and there twice baked potato.

Dan W.

Yelp
I've been going here for over 50 years (not counting when I was stationed over seas). Forever it was always the best dinner in the world. But we went there in Nov 2024 and as hard as they were trying, it took 2 hours to get dinner and wait for the rest of the order. I know they are closing, this is sad. I would have always given them 5 stars in the past. I know those still working there are trying, but they must not have enough cooks or something, it wasn't the busy.
google avatar

Brenda C.

Yelp
Comfort food at an affordable price. Great tasting and plenty of options. The staff is always welcoming but I have noticed it's a little slow in service. Once you get your food and start eating you forget about the wait. Definitely a family favorite especially for birthdays!

J P.

Yelp
Great food, nice people. The happy hour was a nice touch at the bar. Came in from New Orleans and it was close to the hotel.

Ed K.

Yelp
It was our first time to a Cattlemens. What a busy night. The line out the door was insane. We got seated just 2 minutes after our reservation time, so we felt lucky. Our server was Ryan M and he was excellent. On such a crazy night, he made it seem like we were his only table with his great attentiveness and calmness. The food was very good at 1990s pricing. We had so much to eat, we ended taking home 3 boxes of leftovers. We hope to visit the Rohnert Park location next.
google avatar

Christine R.

Yelp
I always enjoyed dining at Cattlemens Steakhouse. I hope this one doesn't close; North Bay needs more steakhouses. There's no more Sizzler's. We get cheated in the North Bay. We want real people food with real people dining establishments. We dined at the bar area after some wine tasting, and the staff are attentive, consistently checking on patrons. There are ample TV's to watch sports. The restrooms are clean. The steaks are cooked with love, the drinks are strong, and fresh sourdough bread - nom, nom, nom! Meat lovers heaven in Petaluma, hope they never close. 'Til we MEAT again ~ cheers & see you on Yelp (SYOY)!
google avatar

Rebecca L.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate a special occasion. We are impressed by their large selection of steaks. We ordered the two people combo, with 1 appetizers and 1 dessert and 2 entrees for $78.99. We also ordered a prime rib separately. Every entree comes with all you can eat salad and beans. The quality of the food is superb and the quality/price ratio is high. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I haven't been to a Cattlemen's in years so it was interesting to come back and see how not much has changed. We came for dinner and there's was a one hour wait, so it's best to make reservations. They have bar seating area as well as their main dining area. In the main dining room the noise wasn't too bad. A lot of birthdays the night we stopped in so there were tables of large parties. The food came out quick. The staff was friendly and always checked in on us which was great since it was a full house. The food was ok. The steaks were good (all ordered medium with one at medium rare) but it wasn't anything different from other chains. Nothing that screamed "this is really good HERE". The Brussel sprouts were interesting. It was a bit salty and then it was drizzled with a vinaigrette sauce. I had a couple of pieces to taste but for the most part left it alone afterwards. It's good place to stop by in the area and good for families.

Scott M.

Yelp
Another casualty of the poor service issue. Waiter dumped scalding hot dinner on me and than acted like nothing happened. And had the never to charge us full price. Another sonoma county restaurant with horrible service.

Rick F.

Yelp
Good food and friendly service.. it makes you feel like you're home..Easy to get to off the freeway

Yelp
We had a great dinner at Cattlemen's. Jenn, our server, was great. All our food was delicious and the old school western vibe was awesome. The restaurant and bar were clean as a whistle. We were promptly greeted upon arrival and thanked with gratitude when we left. Can't wait to go back to try more items on the menu!
google avatar

Trisha G.

Yelp
Came here during happy hour and sat at the bar by the fireplace instead of waiting 30 minutes for a table. Food was mostly good. The calamari was okay, but they took over 30 minutes to bring it out. The burger was good and had a porterhouse, but it had a lot of fat this time. Still better than most steaks i've had. The service was slow and the server looked like he didn't want to serve us. The only time he actually came to ask if we need help was when i didn't need a refill or anything. Other times we always had to wait for him to ask. They didn't bring our bread and salad until after they had already brought our dinner which took about an hour, so we were left with empty drinks until they finally brought out our starters. Overall full restaurant and great atmosphere

Yelp
Very tasty everything from the steak, loaded baked potato ans lobster. When it comes to me craving steak Cattlemans is my favorite place to go.

Yelp
Decent place, fun vibe, lots of people, good price, and lots of steak options. Easy to get a table if you reserve ahead. RESERVATIONS We showed up on a Friday night at 7pm and it was an estimated 30-minute wait for a group of 7 (it ended up being 90 minutes, but by that time we were at a different restaurant). The next day we made a reservation online during the day and easily booked dinner at 6:30pm for a group of 8. THE COST About $130 total for 2 steak entrees, 1 kid entrees, and 3 drinks. Not bad. THE FOOD * Smoky Paloma ($11) - 3.5 stars Decent cocktail, somewhat complex flavor, alcohol wasn't too overpowering. * 12 oz Western Cut Prime Rib ($32.99) w/ fries - 3 stars I was sold by the description this would be "sizzled" at the table, but it just came on a hot cast iron plate and I think by the time it got served to me, the sizzle was gone. I thought the outside would be seared as a result of the sizzle, but it was just a pretty rare steak (I ordered medium-rare, it definitely leaned rare). I liked the thickness of the fries, but they were barely seasoned and quite boring. * Filet Mignon Steak ($35.99) w/ garlic mashed potatoes - 4 stars This steak was great and the mashed potatoes super garlic-y! * Cowboy Ribeye Steak ($35.99) - I didn't try any but my friend ordered this and I wished I had gotten it!

Yelp
We've been here for several special occasions since we've been in Petaluma. We've come for birthdays, Father's Day, brought people when they visited and Veteran's Day. This year, we used our Veteran's Day coupon (THANK YOU for still honoring my husband and other active duty/retired military members) today for dinner. The food was, as always, delicious. The restaurant is always warm and inviting. What made tonight so special was our waiter, Mark. You know when you have a four year old, you never know what they may say? And how embarrassed you can be as parents? We had one of those times tonight. We, as parents, were mortified at our youngest's decision to be just plain rude. Mark handled it with grace and patience and we appreciated him so more much for that. He was already a wonderful waiter but he proved himself to be just a wonderful human being. Thank you, Mark, for being so lovely. Thank you, Cattleman's, for hiring amazing people. We appreciate you.

Yelp
Such a great dinner and we had the best service from Juan Carlos. He was so attentive and really made our meal special.

Yelp
It was our last night before heading home and we discovered this amazing place! We selected the dinner for two based on the recommendations from our amazing server Cindi B. Food great, ambiance good, we sat in the bar area. Service was spot on #1, Cindi B you rocked it! I hope to see you again next time!

Victoria S.

Yelp
We took a friend for happy hour as we wanted him to try the lamb lollipops on the happy hour menu (we really like them). He arrived before us and sat at the bar. He only drinks grey goose vodka on the rocks (this is not on the happy hour special list). He ordered a drink and as the bartender was making it, noticed that the letters on the bottle were pretty worn off. He was handed his drink and the vodka was NOT grey goose. He said it wasn't even a top shelf vodka, but horrible. I encouraged him to go up to the bartender and request a new drink out of a fresh bottle, but he didn't want to complain so we respected his wishes while we were there. I will definitely bring this to management's attention if we go back. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Doug D.

Yelp
Everything changed after 2020 including Cattlemens. Gone are all the happy hour specials. This chain has become Olive Garden/Red Lobster/Chilis/Applebees. Great service though!
google avatar

D. G.

Yelp
If you've been to any chain steakhouse, you'll know exactly what to expect here: Very mediocre food served in huge quantities for those who care more about "getting their belly filled" than any sort of real flavor or quality. Steaks are chewy, tough and dry. I ordered prime rib for the first time (medium rare) and it came out looking perfect. One bite shattered that illusion - it was seemingly devoid of any juiciness or tenderness. Baked and mashed potato sides were passable, and the mini pot of chili beans was a nice if unnecessary touch. I'd been here previously for cocktails and appetizers, and I must say they do a pretty good job on those. But for steak, dining here would be, in my opinion, a mis-steak.

Frederick B.

Yelp
I've been going there since I moved here at 1995. About twice a month but during football season just about every Monday night, always great service and atmosphere. The people are nice.

Yelp
Sirloins, not filets, and yams are not sweet potatoes. I cook filet mignon frequently. Tonight I was disappointed that our filet mignons were tough. A properly cooked filet mignon should not need a serrated knife to cut through it, nor should be tough to chew. We ordered ours medium rare. It was so chewy that I was disappointed. My husband ordered the large rib eye. About a third of it was fat and grizzle, it was not marbled as described. I didn't want to make a big deal of it, but when we discussed it on our ride home, I realized I think we were served sirloins vs. filet mignons. My friend saw my steak and said "I thought you ordered a filet". I told her I did, but now I realize it was shaped like a sirloin. When we cook filets at home, we're able to cut them with only a fork, no knife needed. In addition, I upgraded to a sweet potato, but it was a yam. There is a big difference between the two. I did not feel up to making a scene at the restaurant, as we were having such a nice time. But I don't need to go back to Cattleman's. Customer service was on point, kind, and prompt. Plenty of other place to get a decent steak in town, namely, on my bbq or smoker. At $40 a steak, Cattleman's should do better. Will cook our own next time.

Yelp
Moral of this story is that just because you've got a red meat craving in a rural cowboy-ish region, doesn't at all guarantee a superior dining experience. Good intentions all around, but execution fell eye-poppingly short. Management was great about letting our large party use their private room sheltered by a large sliding barn door. A very reasonable ($20) corkage fee allowed us to pop our own corks and use their nice wine glasses. Large jumbo shrimp appetizer very impressive - plump and fresh, with abundant cocktail sauce. Can't eat too much to save your appetite... Our server was certainly polite, but seemed like she had too much to handle. With a large group of ~18 people, she had many requests come her way. I had to patiently ask for water three times for example. They also served the entrees before clearing the salad plates. Can't really blame the server - it's lack of training or understaffing (or both). Our Prime Rib cuts were wildly inconsistent. My cut, as well as two other plates, was dark red, and very rare. If you look at the picture, you'd think it was just taken out of the refrigerator. Worse, when they were sent back to the kitchen, we must have offended someone because when they came back they looked microwaved (the cut started to curl upwards, and there was no more red in sight). Such a travesty. Another Cowboy rib-eye on the table was delivered medium-well (all these particular entrees were ordered medium-rare). All the steaks were underseasoned as well. Now, you might expect this lack of know-how at a Denny's or Sizzler's, but not at a Cattlemen's, right? On the side, we found our steamed veggies (boiled broccoli), and the most outstanding feature on the plate: the baked potato. Loved the way they served the sour cream - a big scoop sprinkled with chives and placed in a glass cup normally used for ice cream! Dessert choices off the holiday menu include Carrot Cake, Chocolate Cake (my choice - quite moist and super delicious), and Cheesecake. There are enough highlights to push this to two stars, but the damage was already done - a Cattlemens simply needs to know how to prepare steaks proficiently - that's what a reasonable consumer expects.

Yelp
I drove about 40 mins from Napa and it was worth it!! Top three on my list of great steaks! I had the rib eye with the rustlers potato and a kick ass Margarita! Whoooo! Price for this incredible meal was so affordable I could not believe!!

Yelp
Family and I came here after coming back from the beach. We did make reservations which makes it easier other wise the wait is long if you just walk in. The atmosphere here is always amazing. Our server was great, gave us time to enjoy our salads and appetizers. He also never asked us any questions if we had a mouth full of food. We all got something different from ribs to steaks and the food was great.

Yelp
Ah- went here for dinner before going to the cornmaze. Ordered filet mignon & "sizzling" prime rib. Husband ordered the drink of the day or something (I forgot the name) but basically similar like old fashioned. Filet mignon: was good, cooked proper according to the order (medium well). Husband was satisfied. Although in my opinion, if they added a little flaked salt, that would make a huge difference. "Sizzling" prime rib: ordered the western cut (or was it Cattlemens cut? I honestly forgot) but boy 1/3 of the meat was fat. Like, inedible fat not only that, it wasn't sizzling tbh.. idk, it just feels empty and...flat. Bland. The au jus was good, but not remarkable. I was a little bummed with the amount of fat though. In total maybe its better to get the smaller cut or I should have just stick to ribeye.. but it's ok, note taken for next time.

Yelp
Been around so long it's like a Petaluma institution. I have dined here many times over the years and enjoyed both the food and ambience. I sure hope that they don't get rid of it to put in yet another Chick-fil-A that we certainly don't need but that's the rumor

Yelp
I have been to Cattlemens over the years. The most recent time we celebrated my nieces Birthday. Our server (unfortunately I forgot her name), made my nieces Birthday dinner extra special and a memorable one. She had a great personality and did an excellent job serving our fairly large party. I don't usually order steak at restaurants, but ordering a steak is a must here. They get their steaks from Niman Ranch which is a good quality company. I ordered their Rustler Ribeye with mashed potatoes. There were some thinly sliced fried onions ontop of my steak. It was cooked just how I wanted it, medium well. All of the dining was outside (this was back in October 2020) due to Covid. They did an excellent job following all the safety protocols. After our meal, a few employees came out to sing their version of Happy Birthday. She loved it! FYI your whole party has to be present in order to be seated promptly.
