Hadn't been here in a long time. Took Pops for his 86th b-day; that's where he wanted to go.
Looks the same as always, wait staff are very friendly, they were really busy - even at 5:20 - it's a Friday and it's Prime Rib night. Realized later there are several other places that do Friday/Saturday Prime Rib, but Cattlemens looks to be the better-priced option among them. Regardless, nobody in my group had that.
The salad and soup bar are excellent! That station has been through its ups and downs throughout the years, but it's presently really nice and very much worth it. Steaks were extremely generous, well made, arrived promptly, and tasted very good. We all needed boxes for the extra. Which... brings me to a point in general about steak houses : I like the generous portions, but not all the time. It would be nice if there were a couple smaller options - like a 6-ounce, with smaller sides. I don't have as big an appetite anymore, especially with a salad to start, and I really didn't want to take a box of leftovers home.
But I feel guilty as heck when a giant plate is set in front of me and I know I can only eat about half of it.
I know that a half portion doesn't mean half the price - I get that - it's the value added of the service that affects the cost of the item. I'm not looking to be cheap, I just don't want to feel guilty about not eating the whole and not wanting to haul leftovers.
