All the Upcoming Restaurants and Bars Opening in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"I’m looking forward to Catzen Coffee Bar & Den on Grand Avenue, a cat café pouring Dogwood coffee and Rishi tea, serving pies, biscuits, and pastries from Hot Hands, and letting a cast of resident rescue cats roam the cozy shop (though the cats won’t be up for adoption)." - Justine Jones

We had two large Latte’s. The coffee is extremely tasty! The coffee was like liquid clouds over our palettes. Whatever they do to their coffee, it is worth everything Holy! The area is lovely and walkable. Plenty of parking, just prepare for parallel style. As you see in pictures, the atmosphere is incredibly ZEN. With cats! The cat area is comfortable like a living room. There’s another area of seating in back that’s brighter and offers booths and plenty of light and outlets for anything you need. CatZen is worth every stop. Playing with cats is a dream bonus while you drink amazing coffee. The menu is also as delectable as the coffees! I highly recommend the Fig & Gouda!

I absolutely loved this place! Not just because I’m a cat lover, but because the coffee is genuinely delicious and the overall experience is exceptional. The service was outstanding—everyone on the team was warm, cheerful, and welcoming. One of the things I appreciated most is the thoughtful layout: the café space is separated by glass from the cat lounge. This makes it perfect for people with allergies (like my boyfriend), since they can still enjoy the ambiance from the café side without direct contact but watching them from the window inside the cafe, while still having a clear view of the cats. Both areas are warm, cozy and ideal for sitting down with a cup of coffee. The cats live in a cozy space in the basement below the café and have their own private entrance to the cat lounge. This allows them to come and go freely, choosing when they want to interact with visitors without ever being forced to socialize. I found this incredibly thoughtful and respectful of their well-being. Ideally, it’s best to reserve in advance to guarantee your spot, as space is limited. I was lucky to walk in without a reservation and still enjoy time with them, as the cat lounge wasn’t at full capacity that day. The experience inside the cat lounge was absolutely wonderful. The space is beautifully kept—impeccably clean, warm, and inviting. The décor is full of charm, unique, original, really authentique and sincere, with cat-themed art, vibrant textures, and colors that make you feel instantly at home. Some of the cats came by during my visit—friendly, calm, and clearly happy. You can tell they’re well cared for and enjoy interacting with guests. They have many toys available all around the room so you can interact and play with them if they are in the mood and approach to you. They also have scratching toys, hammocks and gyms in the room as well as food and clean water. I loved the detail of the little book with the photos and stories of each kitten, it gives you an idea of each one's personality and you learn to recognize them by their colors and names. There is also a small shop selling cat curiosities inside the cafe. Having time with the cats inside is a wonderful experience for children and adults: enriching, relaxing and joyful, a real therapy! I had such a heartwarming time and would highly recommend this place to any cat lover looking for a unique and cozy café experience.

Super cozy and peaceful! I love how the cat area requires reservation and has limitations on children, so it's really relaxing. They have a special where if you see every cat you get a free drink which is really cool. The hot chocolate and mocha were both super good, as well as the cheesecake bite. Will definitely be coming back!

This is a must when in the area (and worth a drive if you aren’t super close)! I made a reservation the night before and was able to easily find a time available, and it was free! There is a cafe area, back patio, and cat room. The cats are NOT adoptable, and are permanent residents at the cafe. I found this to be nice, as it allowed the cats to feel more comfortable. The cats were BEAUTIFUL! Cats have access to a private room as well, so they are not forced to be around people if they don’t want, which was very nice. Staff was kind and you could tell they cared for each cat. I was more than willing to buy a coffee to support this business.

The best cat coffee shop I’ve been to! The design of the entire coffee shop is gorgeous and feels so cozy. The cat room is separate from the cafe area, and it it is kept so clean that there absolutely is no cat litter smell. What I love about the space is that the cats have a separate private den so they can leave the cat room/being around people whenever they please. The cats are professionals, as in they will generally ignore you but will accept gentle pets and love to play with the cat toys available. The drinks are great, my favorite is the London Fog and I love the spiced chickpea pastries! This is a beloved space in the Twin Cities- you can feel the love that goes into running this shop. Make a reservation asap!

Spotted around 6 different cats on a Saturday morning at 10 am (most were sleepy). Comfortable seating and relaxing atmosphere inside the cat room. Love the conversation starters / board games and the notecard bios for the cats. Cafe drinks were fine - pretty typical cappuccino and drip coffee as any other cafe in the area, but their tea offerings are quite nice.

Great cat cafe! Has an area to visit the cats, usually by appointment only, but if there's availability..who knows. :) The lattes were good, and there's a lot of awesome cat themed decor and souvenirs available. Definitely helps a good cause, kitties benefit and most certainly appropriate it.

Food is expensive, but since you only have to buy a drink to see the kitties, it's so much cheaper than a regular cat cafe. I was lucky to get a walk in but they recommend making a reservation. Also they have a piano out front on the street which is surprisingly well tuned. I thought the London fog was too bitter for my taste. The room did smell like litter. The cats definitely tolerate people and mostly nap, so don't expect rambunctious kitties.
