Cava - Review - Deer Park - Toronto - The Infatuation

"You expect a number of things from malls, like teenagers and free pretzel samples handed out by teenagers. What you wouldn’t normally find at one is a place like Cava, one of the best tapas restaurants in the city. The frequently changing menu at this spot always centers around Iberian and Latin American food, with seafood as a main focus. Get the octopus tiradito and halibut ceviche if they’re on the menu, along with a bunch of different pinchos. Just know that the dishes here tend to be small, so if your only meal today was brunch at 11:30am or you spent the afternoon walking the Beltine trail and are starving, opt to share some of the larger dishes or your bill will add up." - Katie Diamond

Cava had always been on of my favourite restaurants. It's been 2 years since I've been back. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday last week and it was a bit disappointing. Some of the best dishes which I reminisced over were no longer on the menu. What was really upsetting was not so much that they had removed some of their best dishes from the menu, such as the seafood paella but it was the lack of engagement our server had with us. Firs thing I inquired about was the paella. The server goes on to explain that it had been removed and is now only a seasonal dish (not sure what it has to do with the season)..later when we were waiting for our bill, another staff member came over to chat with us (he was so friendly, funny and approachable) and when I had mentioned the paella, he tells me that "well, if customers really want it, we can go ask the chef if it can be made". I was annoyed to hear that! Had i been told that when I first sat down by my ACTUAL SERVER, yeah I would've said "yes please go check". After all, I intended on surprising my boyfriend with a really tasty dish. That's what really bugged me. I come to expensive restaurants like this to 1) experience 2) food 3) quality service

Good food and service. There is parking right next to the restaurant so don't bother getting street parking. Be prepared to wait a little bit for the paella because it takes 40 minutes to cook. The lady at the next table made this mistake.

Cava is a tapas restaurant located in mid-town Toronto. It is a small and unique restaurant, with a romantic decor. I have to give a bonus point to the waiter, he gave us some recommendations since this is the first time. We ordered 4 pieces of "supergilda", which is sardines with olives and top of a small piece of toast. A very well tasted appertizer starter. Then we had the eggplant with quesi fresco, and maitake mushroom with sherry and mint. Both are very special to me, because the combination of flavour are so "new" to me! The main courses are sablefish with black rice, as well as the seafood panella. The panella is not on the menu, but you can ask the waiter to take the order. The panella is good, but not great, bc the shrimp is not very fresh. The sablefish is nothing too stand out, it did not give me a "wow" factor. Overall, I would say it is a nice place for a date, or for a drink with some small dishes.

Good strange foods! I really enjoy the foods here. All of the dishes that we have tried are so new to my tastebuds! :p The server and the staff are really nice! There's one dish that we didn't finish cos I didn't realize I was allergic to that, then one of the server told us they will not charge for that! Amazing amazing service. Definitely coming back to CAVA!

Visited on Valentine's Day 2018. Took my fiance (now wife) as she has been all over to every restaurant,...and has never heard of this. (Tidbit of info: I used to work here). I feel like it's glory days have come to an end. Dishes haven't changed much in the last 10years. Although still good, it lost its "umph!". Dishes were underseasoned. Maybe it was always like this, but I remember coming here in 2010 and having one of the best meals of my life. Then again, at that time Chris McDonald and Doug Penfold were both very active in the BOH. Would still come back, but only if I saw a bunch of new menu items.

They were very busy on a holiday schedule so we were not served all of our dishes, and the dish of the day had to be substituted because they ran out of that fish. We were hoping to invoke memories of Barcelona with the jamon iberico but no luck here. I am not sure if it was due to the holiday staffing in the kitchen, Cava does not seem to be on the same level it ised to be.

Elegant ambiance with lots of selection of tapas. On the pricey end. spent $160 for two people and still hungry. The menu is on the table wrapped on top of the napkin. Must try their famous egg plant dish.

Service was good. The tapas and pinchos were also good. The paella and other mains were average. Wine selection is very good.
