"This space, formerly a stable for horses, has been converted into a modern, elegant restaurant that has managed to maintain vestiges of its past. Following time spent working in England, chef Bruno Contreras decided to create this unique restaurant, where the focus is on contemporary cooking with an international influence and the use of regional ingredients, with dishes designed for sharing. Cavalariça’s signature dishes include cured meat croquettes with clam mayonnaise and mustard, and grilled brioche with a chicken liver parfait and orange chutney." - Michelin Inspector

We were skeptical. We heard the hype of a great restaurant in Comporta… and were ready to be disappointed. We were wrong. Quite the contrary, we were delighted by the creativity and quality of the food. It was amazing. Every single dish we had from the appetizers to the main courses were exquisite. Very creative combinations, perfectly executed. Huge congrats to the chef and team. Service was attentive and with a funky vibe. Decor was very cool in the old horse stables. Overall, 5/5 experience. Highly recommend. Can’t wait to try it again in the future.

I made a reservation about one month in advance for lunch on a Wednesday — I probably could’ve walked in, but better safe than sorry! The food was delicious, from the bread and butter to the dishes I had as my ‘mains’ (all starters). I ordered the sea bream, asparagus, and ossobuco tortellini; of the three, the sea bream was my favorite with delicate flavors and nice texture. Ines, my server, had great suggestions for wine and also regularly checked in on how I was doing. Her warmth made me feel welcomed as a solo diner!

Unfortunately, I had a bad experience there. My expectations were really high, as this restaurant is listed in the Michelin Guide. Also, I work in catering/hospitality, so I have a solid understanding of what good customer service should be like. I brought some friends along to show them the best of Comporta, and it turned out to be very disappointing. First of all, the food took over an hour to arrive. They forgot my friend's juice, never checked if we wanted more water, and when I asked about the delay, the staff member replied, "As you ordered so little, it takes time for the chef to prepare everything at the same time." What? We ordered one dish per person because we wanted to try different things and maybe order more later—no one explained the concept or made any suggestions. At that point, I just wanted to eat and leave. When the food finally arrived, it was underwhelming. Nothing special was served—no "wow" factor at all. My dish could easily have been called “cumin carrot”, because that was basically all I could taste. Honestly, I don’t understand how this place is in the Michelin Guide. There is a lot of room for improvement—both in hospitality and in the quality of the food.

We really enjoyed trying out this restaurant in comporta. We did the chefs menu (a sharing concept) and all the food was both interesting and extremely tasty. While on the pricier side for Portugal, we felt it was well worth it. The restaurant is willing to accommodate for food preferences and food allergies on the menu.

While the ambiance of the restaurant is lovely and the service was excellent, we found the food somewhat disappointing. The flavors were quite average and not particularly memorable. Given the portion sizes, the pricing felt a bit steep for what was offered. Overall, a nice setting, but the food didn’t quite meet expectations.

What a nice place, beautiful room, great and friendly service and delicious food. 100% recommend it. Fair priced for the place and quality. The vegetables treatment is top class. And the cocktails are well executed.

We were expecting great things. So disappointed. The waiters were lovely but busy and short staffed. The starters were great and then we had the main terrible, 90day old beef, a plate of fat and tasteless sauce. The wine was average as we were told that most was unavailable due to it being the end of summer. Perhaps during the high season this may buzz but I would not recommend. 305 atm photo photo
