Betz Family Winery Won’t Release 2020 Vintage Impacted by Wildfire Smoke | Eater Seattle

"A 24-year-old, well-respected operation with a tasting room in Redmond, Betz Family Winery announced it would not release a 2020 vintage because wildfire smoke taint affected harvested grapes; with vineyards in Eastern Washington and a Pinot Noir project in Oregon’s Willamette Valley also hit by the devastating 2020 wildfires, the owners said, “We never considered for one second sending wines to customers that are flawed,” calling the decision brutal but easy." - Gabe Guarente

We went for a wine tasting, we did a walk in 90 minutes before closing and the staff was able to accommodate us. They were knowledgeable and made good recommendations. They had pre packaged charcuterie boards available for purchase. My only complaints is that the sun hit directly where we were seated, wish they had more umbrellas for shelter. Would recommend you call in advance and ask for more sheltered seating incase you have an issue with it being too sunny.

Google
$10 for 6 one ounce pours of their current, large tasting selection is a heck of a deal in Woodinville! This is the place to bring your friends who like wines you don't. Something for everyone to try, from clean, steely Chablis style Chardonnay to luscious, velvety Petit Verdot, to rich, honey-like last harvest Sémillon. Very knowledgable and friendly staff. Excellent views and outdoor seating as well.

Roza B.

Google
This place is so fun!! The grounds are gorgeous and the tasting is good. You get to keep the glass as a souvenir which is fun. I went in late October and was just mesmerized by all the gold colors of their property.

Google
This is THE best winery in Woodinville...hands-down. The lot that it sits on is so serene, peaceful, vibrant yet secluded. When it is nice out, you can sit in one of their many tables on the pristine stone walkway and face the sun....or you can sit inside in their cute tasting room in a log-cabin vibe....country feel in the city...as Woodinville is so well-known for. The gals there are top-notch, cute, kind, entertaining, and wait on ya hand and foot. They have yard golf to play on a large slab of grass that lies on the property with picnic tables which also make this dog friendly. NOW to their wines.....BEST and largest selection (white, rose, sparkling and reds!!). This is rare and they are ALL amazing!!! Best sparkling rose I've ever had, and their price points are right in anyone's wheelhouse. The Viognier, Sav Blanc, dry rose and riesling are outstanding! Their wine club is such no pressure and so easy to manage. You can cherry-pick, tailor and modify each shipment should you choose the "Inspire" club. This allows you to buy what you are "feeling" and also "save" here and there if you should choose. Al, Val and Kirsten are such great gals and I HIGHLY recommend this place...if you're a local like myself, or even a wino/tourist!! Don't miss seeing it!!

Google
One of my 5 favorite wineries. Great reds. I don't drink the whites but my wine tasting friends say the wine is very good. And the people who work there are the best! I joined the club.

Google
I have been a wine club member here for a couple years at least. The staff is always really friendly and open to talking to you or leaving you alone, depending on what you prefer that visit. Everyone that works here is great and the wine is awesome for the price. You can find better wine around Woodinville, but its really tough to find better wine at a better price. Highly recommend. I come several times a month in the Summer, its always the same great experience. Great outdoor area for dogs or kids to run around.

Google
I just played in a band that was booked at the winery this past weekend. Carrie and the entire staff we worked with were absolutely lovely and the winery grounds were incredible. I had heard of Cave B but never had visited while at the Gorge. The next gorge show I go to I intend to spend all my time here!!

Dave Van V.

Google
Went today,12/31, with a group of four. Even though the wine is over rated, I was ready to join the wine club and buy a case of wine. To my surprise, I was told I could not taste or order food. The winery closed at 4 for New Years event. We walked in at 3:15. So for 45 minutes the staff was unable to handle a tasting? The combination of average wine and staff with attitude are enough to not recommend Cave B.

Yelp
What a fun tasting room in Washington wine country! I picked Cave B as it was one of few tasting rooms open on a Monday - when I pulled up, they had ample parking, both indoor, outdoor and bar seating, and just a relaxing, chill vibe. I opted for a tasting - they have red, white, or a blend of both - and I went with both. The staff were fantastic, describing the wines - how they might be similar or different to other varietals - answered my questions and even offered two house pours (rose bubbly to start and one of their sangria-type wines). Overall, it was a lovely atmosphere to try new wines, read my book and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.

Yelp
We stopped in to try a tasting through our Woodinville Passport and loved all the wine and being able to sit outside in the sun!
google avatar

Jennica C.

Yelp
Nice tasting room, with enough space to sit. You can also walk around outside or sit on the deck area. The staff are friendly and able to answer any questions you have regarding the wines. We did the tasting which was delicious, bought a bottle to take home. The outside is very pretty and you feel secluded enough to be able to wine down and relax! Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Delightful tasting room and cute outdoor space! The wines are fun and tasty and the staff friendly and inviting!

Yelp
One of our favorite Wineries of all time. This place deserves more attention and love! (though, I do like how it is almost one of Woodinville's unassuming secrets). Their small tasting room has great prices for great wine! It has a relaxing and chill vibe to it away from some of the chaos of the other clustered wineries. We have enjoyed Cave B wine for years, especially when we go over to the Gorge. Their tasting room here does not disappoint and their Sparkling Rose called "Pink and Bubbly" is one of our favorites for any time of the year. We became wine members about a year ago, and the wine club is one of the best deals in the area. Truly. Affordable and has different tiers with different benefits. We started at the Discover level which has two allotments a year, but the real benefit is the free tastings for two people any time you stop in, plus a discount on all bottle purchases. With two tasting rooms in Washington, this was a no brainer that has easily paid for itself, plus their wine is great! This tasting room always has great service and people that enjoy and love their wine! They offer different tasting flights of all red, all white, or a mix. Honestly you cannot go wrong! They have been around for a good amount of time and with good reason! Try this one, or the one over by the Gorge! You wont be disappointed! Cheers

Yelp
When I joined the Cave B wine club over at its main location in Quincy, I made sure there was a Woodinville location, so I could get free tastings with friends here and pick up my wine versus having it shipped every quarter. Located on the Woodinville-Redmond road, walking distance to the Hollywood District, I'm glad to enjoy my favorite wines not far from home. They do not take reservations, so a few of us visited on a Sunday afternoon, and were able to get a table in the back patio. At this time, they only allow outdoor seating. Even though there was only an hour left until closing, there were still a few groups here. Parking was easy, as they have space on their gravel lot right next to the entrance. We all did a tasting, which included six tastings, which you get to choose from. I had the sparkling rose and four reds. The cabernet sauvignon is one of my favorite red wines! For something full-bodied and savory, but seems to go with everything, their cab sauv hits all the notes. After the tasting, the employee allowed us to revisit some wines or try others that we hadn't yet. Service was fantastic here! We brought our dog with us, and they gave her a bowl with water. Nice to know too, that it's dog-friendly! You can also bring your own food here. Anytime I'm in Woodinville, you can find me at Cave B, soaking up all the reds wines.

Yelp
Hey. Are you missing wine tasting? Looking to get out but afraid wherever you go won't follow social distancing? Do you want a break from it all? May I suggest Cave B? Seriously I can't speak enough of Cave B Winery. It was the one stop that clearly discussed our current pandemic. Signs were posted about mandatory masks, social distancing, and one way traffic. It was nice to see. We went outside and went to a max shift table in the back. It was there I heard staff members gently tell someone they were sitting where they weren't supposed to and offering them an alternative location. It was polite and effective. Our server was absolutely amazing. Seriously this woman was who you want for a wine tasting server - good sense of humor, quick wit, great conversationalist, and a plethora of knowledge of the wines she was pouring. She was so fun to drink with that I regretted not being able to actually drink with her. The wine itself was very good. I liked a few of their white wines so I ended this day on a very positive note. Highly recommended!

Yelp
The Merlot and the viognier would be my recs for a white and red. Tried a flight of Red and white and these where the ones the stuck out to me. Best thing about it is just buy a bottle and the tasting is basically free. Enjoy the wine and great vibe in their back patio :)

Yelp
The tasting room is located along the main stretch of wineries. The interior is split into two rooms and outdoor seating is available. This tasting room is quieter than others nearby. A variety of white and red wines is on the tasting menu and they have a rose champagne on the menu. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is available in front of the building.

Yelp
This was our first time here. We were looking for something that wasn't a store front. It was 6 tastings for $10 at your table. Wear a mask inside but not at your table. But a bottle and get the $10 waived. The young lady was very nice, helpful and talked to us on where we were from etc; very nice young lady. We purchased 3 bottles. My fave is normally a red but it was the Unoaked Chardonnay. Best I've ever had. Unbelievable. Going to see if I can order that Chardonnay for home.

Yelp
If you love wine! This is the place! The wines are fabulous! Service is excellent. I became a Club member on the spot! clearly I plan on returning regularly!
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
I love that this location is open later on a weekday so it's one of the few places in Woodinville that you can come in for a tasting after work. The patio was perfect on a summer evening and the wines were very affordable. I do wish that they allowed outside food, similar to other tastings rooms in the area, especially since they only have small snack boxes and not meals.
google avatar

Sammi S.

Yelp
Nice service. Only thing is I wish I could learn the history of the wines / vineyards. Great location!

Yelp
I don't know why would I write a review about a winery. Wine tasting is very subjective. I guessed I will share my experience instead. Cave B's Woodinville wine tasting shop had expanded. They took over the Genoa's front store. Today is the Fall Release Event day. They have Glassy Baby pop up shop. It is nice to have a bigger area to roam around with a wine glass in hand. There outdoor seating is very comfortable and peaceful as well. Being a member, I enjoyed up to four complementary wine tasting per visit. I bring my own wine tote bag to pick up my Shipment yields me an extra special pour. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed their offers and atmosphere a lot.

Yelp
This place has awesome wine the barista Jen was brand new and eager to learn about wine. I hope she is encouraged by management to grow as i know she' will. Great wine and great prices

Yelp
Please note: This is not the Cave B Winery in Quincy. This is the tasting room. The tasting room is pretty solid, from my personal experience. It is a tasting room, so bear in mind it is small, cozy, and off the beaten path. I recommend either parking at a different parking lot and walking here or if you are lucky and find parking, notice the tasting room is not too far away. I think this tasting room gets overlooked because it is so well hidden. I really enjoyed their white wine selections. One in particular, wish I could remember the name, was a cross between a nice dry white and a bubbly prosecco, delicious! There is a tasting fee - darn! But the tasting fee is waved with the purchase of a bottle, or two, or three... I found the staff member working to be very friendly and knowledgeable of the wines, winery, and as well as pairing the wine with certain foods.

Yelp
Fabulous afternoon at the cave B with outstanding server, Jennifer. So pleasant and knowledgeable. Cannot think of a better way for these 4 first time visitors to Seattle to spend time together and enjoy great wines. Bought a mixed case... too many great wines to choose just one! Super interesting history. Best of all wine tasting rooms in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Love their Rose! This place is so nice to hang out and share few bottles of your favorite wines from Cave. They have outdoor seatings and the staff are awesome. I took my entire team out here for outing and plan was to wine hop to other wineries but we loved Cave B that we stayed there. We bought our snacks and just hung outside. Wine is reasonable and delish. I walked out of there with a case of wine. This place is a must go when in woodinville it's hidden off the strip but totally worth it !

Yelp
Great Tasting room, small spot, we had a relaxing time there and enjoyed great wines. It's dog friendly btw and just perfect to spend some time in Hollywood area

Yelp
Wife brought me here for an awesome weekend getaway on the estate. We stayed in one of their yurts which is like a teepee but with electricity, full bathroom and a mini bar/fridge area. We came here to relax and it was exactly what we were looking for! Being right on the Columbia River, the hikes, the views, the vineyards.. It was a great experience for a couple nights. We love the wine selection, we did a wine tasting and had a great time trying their white/red selections. We had dinner twice and breakfast buffet at their fine dining restaurant on location and the food was awesome. Would highly recommend the chefs cut for steak and the lasagne. Next time we come here we will def try out the cave rooms that overlook the Columbia river. Room for improvement would be to have another option for dining, maybe a cafe with a lighter menu, and the towels and bedding seemed a little dated or worn.

Yelp
FINALLY! You have come to woodinville! I am so happy! It is so hard to get out to the eastern washington location, as beautiful as it is, I wish I had cause to go more often! I drove through woodinville the other night and saw your A frame signs on the street and was super excited! Now I can enjoy your wines practically in my backyard! The tasting room is super cute with a nice patio area. The weather was 80 today and it was absolutely perfect weather out. We were practically the only one's there! We really liked the Cab Franc, Tempranillo and the Cab Sav. The '10 Chard was very refreshing too. We decided to get a bottle of the Can Franc and the Temp. this time around. We will definitely be coming back here in the future and bring some friends with us I am sure!

Yelp
Unfortunately one of the worst wines we have tried in WA...we are very educated when it comes to wine production and this was truly one of the worst tastings we have been to. The wines were too sweet for what varieties they were. We asked the staff questions but they didn't seem too educated on the wines or the winery. The only good thing was the music playing in the background. The Gewürztraminer was the only wine we enjoyed, that was done nicely.
google avatar

Kristi B.

Yelp
Despite Covid restrictions, this was an awesome experience. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable! No reservation necessary and did not feel rushed through tasting process. Highly recommend. Would love to check out the main winery.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
I am a little torn. I love the Cave B wines and this woodinville tasting room is adorable with a sweet staff. I loved them so much that I joined the wine club. I ended up quitting because they have some confusing rules on how long they hold your wine until it is shipped. I found the unclear communication frustrating. So I can't recommend their wine club, but I do recommend swinging by for a tasting and a bottle. Their white wines are especially delicious and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Chanel T.

Yelp
Terrible slow service! They made our group all drink the same wine because they didn't want to do the back and Forth wine tasting. But - we were the only group there and the wine servers were just sitting inside gossiping! I had to ask the twice for our next wine because they weren't doing their jobs. Not to mentioned the location of was ghetto and smelled like an outhouse - gross! Never. Again!
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
Wine tasting at Cave B was exactly what I needed during these difficult times! I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of outdoor seating. They have tables on the front patio and some on the side patio. Most have umbrella cover. The winery is surrounded by trees and bushes, with a view of the valley in front, making for a nice ambiance. I felt at peace while going through the tasting menu. You can choose from 3 different tasting experiences: whites, reds or a mix for $15 (6 tastes). The wines were great. I purchased a Cab Fran for $35. The tasting fee is waived with $25 wine purchase. The staff are super friendly. I highly recommend checking out this place. No reservations required. They are located close to many other wineries in the Hollywood district. They have their own parking lot so you don't have to fight for parking and they are less pretentious than other wineries in the area.
google avatar

Allison P.

Yelp
Great tasting room. The front desk clerk at our hotel recommended them, and I am happy they did. Easy to find and sand parking lot has a few other wineries to try too! Alison was great. Explained about the wines and very informative about the winery itself and the owner. Their tasting is self guided they have a great selection and you just pick the ones you want to try. They had a great selection of wines open! Everything I tasted was delicious even if not my favorite. I liked that the wine maker is very into wine/food pairing. It was great learning what each of their wines should technically go with. I usually don't learn things when I am drinking but it was fun!! It was a great experience and I highly recommend going their for a tasting.
google avatar

Lindsay K.

Yelp
Very disappointed at Cave B after tasting wine with a Woodinville Winery Passport. We didn't get to taste all of the wines, (others paying on site to taste got a more expanded flight) no tasting notes and we were given almost no description of any wine we tasted. Mostly unfortunate because it was the best wine we tasted and probably the only wine club we would have joined, but not after the way they interacted with us.
google avatar

Christiana C.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in Woodinville!! They are an Estate Winery, which is super unique, and the wines are delicious! Something for everyone. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. This is a spot not to miss!!

Yelp
So this was a pleasant surprise, their tasting room was tucked away pretty far back, but we manage to find it. How lucky are we! My 3 friends and I found this Gem. They have A LOT of wines for you to taste and for $10 you can try 5-6 I think. You get to pick from their I think about 25 different wines. What me and my friends did was each try a different one and shared so we got to try more types. I LOVED their Rose and also their Guietzmiener. Super yummy, they also have very good reds too, but I usually buy their whites because I have other reds I prefer more. Also some of their red's price point is on the higher side and for those price points I can find better quality wine. Their wine club must be one of the best out their. Their lowest commitment is only 2 bottles per shipment twice a year so only 4 bottles. And the benefits are great. 15% off all wines and comp tasting for you and all the friend you bring. My friend ended up joining and I hopped on to use his discount! The girls/guys pouring are always friendly and knowledgable. Some are better pourers than others, but hey can't complain! Def worth a visit.

Yelp
Cave B is one of my most favorite places in Washington. An amazing resort with beautiful scenery and exceptional customer service. I go each summer for a girls getaway and we also walk away with amazing memories! Worth every penny!

Nora R.

Yelp
We had a great experience tasting at Cave B! The staff was awesome, wine was great and the setting is beautiful. The staff was very attentive and personable. Planning to go again soon!
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
I would have loved to have tried the wine but the service was so slow we ended up walking out. Twenty minutes after we walked in and we still had no wine, I guess they were out of glasses and were busying themselves with reprinting of the tasting menus. Three different couple came in after us and we were still standing there waiting for the first pour as they were being accommodated. They were more attentive to others who wanted to have additional free tastings. We ended taking a few steps over to Cougars Winery for much more personable service and better ambiance.

Yelp
Had a great weekend at Cave B. The only downside was that our Cliffhouse was overtaken by ants. Informed the staff and they didn't seem concerned. Disappointed.

Yelp
This was our third winery on our trip and we really enjoyed it! Cave B isn't the fanciest winery. Their tasting room is relatively no frills, but there is patio seating outside (which is nice). What I really liked about this tasting room were the staff. They were very friendly and completely accepting of the fact that me and my friend were on a budget. They offer 6 tastings for $10. They allowed us to split the tasting (3 for me and 3 for my friend). They had a variety of wines, including reds and whites. You can pick from a bunch of different wines, so long as they have a bottle open. This means that their tasting lineup changes on any given day, which is great. All of the wines were good, but the two wines that impressed me most were their ice wine and their Rose. I decided to get a bottle of Rose, and my tasting was comped. So long as the bottle you buy is $18 or more (the Rose was exactly 18), your tasting fee is waived. The woman who did our tasting was really friendly and kind. Check-out with our bottle was a breeze. I would definitely recommend this tasting room to others.
google avatar

K M.

Yelp
Service was horrible & rude, policy did not follow the online offer for tasting fee's. We will not be returning to this tasting room in Woodinville. Cave B in George WA was excellent and we thought we would receive the same service. We did not.

Stacia A.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for my Birthday. Enjoyed our overnight getaway! Food at restaurant was wonderful. Sure enjoyed the cream onion soup and of course the lavender crème brulé!

Jenna S.

Yelp
I was out tasting in Woodinville today. in the enclave near cougar crest which has excellent wine and customer service as do Genoa. My boyfriend and I passed through Cav B and ask if they were still serving glasses of wine. As we were walking out past the open window I heard " Get the fuck out of here". It was the blonde that works the register there who seems like a teenager, said " Get the fuck out of here" through the open window. We were only asking if they were still serving, and they always have a full house. Their customer service is poor, terrible, and wine tasting is supposed to be a pleasant experience. I will never go here again!
google avatar

Bridgette M.

Yelp
Came here on a whim and am so pleased I did! We were greeted by Allison who was so knowledgeable and professional! The perk of tasting here is that you can choose what you sample, it's not a set list. I keep going back to buy their blanc de blanc, sooo tasty! Definitely worth the stop!

Vincent B.

Yelp
This is a great place! I love the wine room, the patio and the service. Not to mention they have awesome wine! This place is dog friendly too. Keep up the good work Cave B!

Tara H.

Yelp
Wow! I have been to the gorge location and am so happy they have one in woodinville. The girls running the tasting room were personable, knowledgeable and fun. The wine was great too and bought two bottles. Keep it up!!

Sean S.

Yelp
Been here on two separate occasions years apart, and had a crummy experience both times. I want to like them because they share a parking lot with one of our favorite Woodinville wineries, Cougar Crest, which i highly recommend. But once there, don't get pulled in by the cool looking cave entrance. Both times I've been here the 20-something employees seemed indifferent, preoccupied, and lacked basic knowledge about the wines. The last time we went will be the last time forever. We ordered 4 tastings, at which time she poured us our first wine, and then went about marking up menus for the next 15-20 minutes, occasionally tending to others who came in for wine, but never pouring another for us. It was so disorganized that we literally walked out without anyone noticing. Maybe their wines our good, I don't know, we didn't get to try them. And they, in turn, didn't get any sales. Word to the wise, how about you have a standard tasting menu instead of trying to keep track of a "Pick 6" out of the List of 50 wines for each person. It not only takes forever, but there's no way to keep track of who had how many of what. And maybe hire people who didn't just turn 21, because they probably don't know much about wine.
