Eater Survey: The Most Anticipated Boston Restaurant Openings of 2023 | Eater Boston

"A new opening near Government Center about which details are still scarce; critics speculate it may be a wine bar (with hopes for natural wines), and expect its owners to deliver an opulent, nightclub-like atmosphere similar to their other restaurants while still serving high-quality food and drink — a dose of glamour the neighborhood could use." - Erika Adams

Love this place! Very nice atmosphere and drinks are great! VERY good music with great DJ. Everything about this place is amazing. The appetizers was good as well. Recommend nightlight!

Google
Best gem of a club in Boston. It comes as no surprise since it is of the COJE Group (Caveau, Mariel, Lolita, Yvonne’s, Mr. H etc etc). This is my 3rd time going and it is always a vibe! The music is top, which is always a struggle in Boston. Not hot and steamy as most basement clubs in Boston. This one mixes class, attention to detail, while relaxed fun all in one place. And for the girlies, I feel safe in this club. Go visit!

Google
Caveau offers a stunning interior that creates a fantastic ambiance, perfect for a relaxed dining experience. The drink selection is impressive, and the small plate dinner options, though limited, are all absolutely delicious. The place has a unique vibe as it transitions into a pub after 10 PM, which adds to the lively atmosphere. If you’re enjoying dinner there, the $50 entry fee is waived, which is a great bonus. Overall, it’s a perfect spot for those looking to enjoy a quality meal and then transition into a fun night out without any hassle.

Google
ive been here three times and this place is def just for groupies and rich boston college kids. its fine if your with your friends but barely anyone else was friendly. i love going to clubs and bonding with other drunk girls in the bathroom but it was literally impossible here. the only reason why i will never go back though is the fact that they don't give tap water. you have to pay like 5 dollars for a small little bottle. obviously i have the money but that's just way to ridiculous for me. my friend was drunk and i was also feeling nauseous and was telling the bartender that we just needed a cup of water, not an entire bottle. i was genuinely confused as to why they didn't offer free tap water and the bartender was so rude and defensive acting like i was trying to argue when i literally was being as nice as possible. i've never been to a club where a bar doesn't give free tap water like how strong of a hold does capitalism got on you bro. the staff were so bitchy to other people too like the only pleasant person i encountered were the bouncers and usually the bouncers are the rudest. but yeah boston in general isn't that great so im not shocked but i was very disappointed since its so pretty in there hence why i went three times too see if it would get better but nopeeee i hated the vibes every time

Google
Caveau was such a blast! We came in on the guestlist and were greeted right away by the friendliest security team—such a refreshing start to a night out. The music kept the energy high all evening, and the crowd was the perfect size for dancing without feeling overcrowded. And yes… the bathrooms deserve their own shoutout: stylish, well-kept, and absolutely made for a quick photo op. A perfect spot for a night of great vibes and even better memories.

I went on a Friday for a friend birthday. I had such a good time. The food was on point. My favourite dish was the crap appetiser. I definitely recommend it

Google
The place is great, good vibe and awesome music! The DJs are always on point. The drinks could be a bit stronger though (they’re missing some kick). One thing that doesn’t make much sense is the VIP areas right in the middle of the dance floor. They take up so much space, make it harder for everyone to dance, and most of the time they’re empty anyway. Other than that, it’s a fun spot with great music!

Google
My wife and I went to Caveau for the first time last week. The food was delicious, the drinks were great and the service was attentive! (although we arrived at 6pm and was one of the only tables) The decor of the venue was really creative and interesting to look at. This would have been a 5 star review but I've removed a star for the music. When we arrived the music was a good selection and a very reasonable level. Once the DJ got setup (maybe 730pm?) the DJ started playing some of the worst selection of music I've ever heard. That hurried up our stay and we left shortly after that. The food and drinks are quite expensive, but I knew that going in. I would like to return and hope the music selection is better.

Yelp
Caveau is a very cute, lounge to go to for some drinks! They have all the vibes and every part is super aesthetically pleasing. Perfect place to go for pictures. You may have to wait to take solo pictures in mirrors area by the bathroom; that is a very popular area for pictures. Overall, Caveau is a solid spot to go if you wanna go out for a calm (still fun) night and not have to go to the actual clubs.

Yelp
Have mixed emotions about Caveau. Me and my friends came in Saturday night after we previously made a reservation for 6. The place is located right in the downtown area of Boston and there's a parking garage close to the restaurant which is very convenient. The ambiance is great and the restaurant itself is very pretty and nicely decorated. We came in for dinner and not for the club part but they immediately ID us at the entrance saying that in order for the to serve alcohol at the table everyone has to be above 21, which honestly has never occurred for me and my friends at any other restaurants. We were seated pretty quickly at the waitress was very nice and helpful with the menu. My only complaint is how limited the menu is and how is predominantly small plates. I ordered the flatbread, it was good but It was more of a quick bite then dinner. I would say that the prices are very reasonable. The thing I loved the most about this place is the decorations and interior design. This restaurant is perfect for pictures.

Yelp
Awful management, not worth your time or money. Overpriced drinks and cover. It was also overcrowded, which made it unsafe to navigate to the exit. If I had to guess, I would say they were way over capacity.

Yelp
Excited about trying out the newest restaurant in the group that created Yvonne's and Mariel, I came to Caveau while a friend was visiting from out of town. We were checked in quickly and had a 6 PM reservation, right when they opened. The space is indeed...like a cave. There are dining tables and a large DJ booth toward the front because it converts from restaurant to nightlife establishment (we didn't stay long enough to get to the nightlife portion). There's a fair amount of seafood (I'm allergic) on the menu, but the server informed us that since it was the first reservation of the evening, nothing had been cooked yet and so my food would be made first, for no cross-contamination. Yay! Caveau has an inventive cocktail menu, and I liked the Mamala (tequila-based drink) that I ordered. I also enjoyed the lettuce wraps, which I got with chicken instead of tofu. Actually, understatement--the lettuce wraps were bomb! The Fijian chili chicken with Manchurian sauce was delicious. There was an interesting cross-section of people dining in that evening. One thing was it was ice cold at our particular table, which was right underneath an air vent. And I do mean ice cold--we both put our jackets on for the entire time we were eating. All that said, Caveau is a nice addition to the COJE restaurant group. I'm sure I'll be back!

Yelp
We came here for a birthday dinner and afterwards came back to get a table here for the night/club scene. Would not recommend if you're looking for a full on dinner/meal since they mainly have small plates for food and not actual entrees. Aesthetically this place is really pretty/well decorated but pretty overpriced. At night though I would say if you don't have a table the dance area is closed off and relatively small. Food: they have pretty good food but they're mostly small tapas style food that's pretty pricey. But can't complain I would say if you're looking for a chill sit down place with nice cocktails and small plate foods this is a great place! Drinks; the cocktails here were nicely presented and tasted great Service: during dinner service was good! We came here for a birthday celebration and the server was nice and attentive. There is a cake cutting fee if you do bring your own cake fyi. (Which is common in a lot of places) At night when we got a table I felt there was a lot of pressure from the girl that was serving our table to keep ordering more when our crew had enough to drink, which wasn't the greatest experience but I do understand they wanted us to just order more to get more $. It was kind of uncomfortable having her stand over us and watch us the entire time to get us to order/drink more. I would say bottle service isn't worth it also maybe for that reason there was basically no one else here at the club that had a table besides us, probably won't do that again. Ambience: 10/10 very nicely decorated and aesthetically pleasing. Club scene is just alright, there are definitely better places in Boston. Would only probably come back to get a nice unique cocktail and some small apps from here.

Yelp
My friend and I went to Caveau on a Saturday night with dinner reservations. The entrance was a little bit hard to find, but we found it after a bit of walking around. The hostess was extremely welcoming and walked us to our seats. The atmosphere/decor of this place is incredible. It's really unlike any other place in Boston or any place I've really been to. It was whimsical and mysterious, while also being modern and intriguing. Everything we got was amazing: Chinese Pork Tahitian French Bread Pizza ($22) - 10/5; the flavors were incredible, and it was perfect for two people. I was a bit skeptical about the flavors being put together, but it was really well balanced. Bora Bora Shrimp ($22) - 5/5; wish there were more shrimp on the dish because of how amazing it was. It was perfectly sweet with the vanilla/coconut sauce, and I wish more places did shrimp like this. I would've loved them as a kid!! Poisson Cru ($23) - 4/5; An interesting take on a pokebowl of sorts. It wasn't anything too extraordinary, but it was fresh and delicious. What more could you want? These three dishes were enough for the two of us to be very happy and full. I highly recommend Caveau as it's probably one of, if not the, best restaurants in Boston.

Yelp
Such a cool vibe! The bartender said they are going for an Alice in wonderland abandoned train station vibe. Drinks were very unique but yummy. Music was great. They've only been open for a year, i think it would be a great going out spot if more people knew about it!

Yelp
I was pretty impressed with the interior design of this place. Sort of small but good for a small group. From 7pm-9/10pm is mainly for small bites and mellowing out. Later on the night it turns into sort of a night club. I went on a Saturday night and had about 20-25 in my party. We had 4 tables right in the middle of the restaurant. I was really worried about the service here from all the bad reviews but our service was excellent. I didn't catch our waitress name (short redish orange hair ) but she was super nice and attentive. Everything we ordered and requested was brought out right. There were other waitresses that assisted her and they all seemed nice and very helpful. Food - I really liked their French bread pizza. We actually tried all of it. My favorite was the miso lobster because of the vinaigrette sprouts that was garnished on top. Good amount of lobster too. The char siu pork buns was ok. I wouldn't get that again lol the wagyu was also ok. I wouldn't waste your money on that lol Service - 5/5 Food 4/5 Atmosphere 4/5

Yelp
A pretty place with good vibes. A rather small place but the seating will make you feel like you have your own corner. Food was good as well. I really enjoyed the chinese pork flatbread pizza. Also catered well to a friend who was allergic to shellfish. We were recommended getting the OG passion cocktail in social service since we were a group of four to be more cost efficient. It was a unique experience. The drink was strong as well since there was no ice at all.

Yelp
Honestly the food and drinks were surprisingly quite good, just really overpriced. I really liked the decor and ambiance too, but if I was going for actual dinner I would be disappointed since the food menu is quite small and the tables are like DCP tables where there are couches and you have to bend over to eat. The drinks were also pretty good - not too strong but definitely not weak either. We got there a little early 7 or 8ish and sat at the bar since we didn't have a reservation. By the time we left, the disco ball was on and the music was getting loud but it was more EDM style than your typical top 50 hits which I liked.

Yelp
The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is absolutely stunning. The dj was great and the music was good for the most part. I would not recommend coming here for food because it's not good and very medicore. I would not come here to eat. At the very least they should have oysters, it's Boston! The dessert was burnt and nasty and very disappointing. The drinks were the only redeeming thing about the night here. The waitress we had was not very nice and we had to do everything ourselves such as clean up our tables and serve ourselves which was odd. Giving the place 3 stars just because the decor was nice and the music was good and because the security guards were super nice. Other than that I would only come here for the drinks and the vibes.
google avatar

Livier M.

Yelp
I am so surprised by all the negative reviews! I admit, I did see the reviews before I booked the resy but I'm all about the vibes anyway so I took a risk. We both went in not expecting too much in terms of food and service but we were pleasantly surprised! Let me start off by saying the place looks amazing! I was obsessed. The bathroom area with the mirrors etc is perfect for photo ops. The main area is beautiful and covered in greenery. DJ is spinning the slaps. And the food was to die for! We honestly would've stayed longer had we not been so jet lagged. But our dinner was juicy and flavorful and the drinks gave us a good buzz that we decided it was sleepy time lol. If you are flying in, plan to come here after you rest because it really is a cool place to come with friends and spend at least 2-3 hours.
google avatar

Abigail S.

Yelp
I liked it. Only thing is they're still totally figuring out how to organize the switch from food to dance floor. Also we ordered a pitcher, and they brought out a premade bottle... $125... so expensive for something not made there. We were expecting a pitcher like the ones at Mariel I LOVE the interior and the drinks were still yummy. flatbreads were pretty good too!
google avatar

Jade D.

Yelp
Emily T. gave us amazing service and was so accommodating to our group! Amanda was also super helpful and sweet when booking our table. Great atmosphere and the people that work here are incredible!

Yelp
Club review: does not give tap water, forces you to buy Fiji bottled water. Drinks were not good, bartenders were incredibly rude. Also the crowd is disappointing and boring, way more boring than other Boston venues. Convinced people only come here for the aesthetic and just stand there. It is very pretty, but also overpriced for the show it provides. Laser system is good though.
google avatar

Yelp
The atmosphere was very cool. You walk through some beige brick entrance and arrive at the center where you find sofas, chairs, and ottomans surrounding big coffee tables decórese with little lamps. There's flowers and plants along the wall and hanging from the ceiling to give it the cave like effect . There are screens on the ceiling and behind the DJ. We went on a Friday, during 'dinner time' the music was varied well and once it turned night club at 10 the DJ really mixed it up with some Latin, pop, reggae, early 2000's club mixes. For Dinner- read the reviews!!! They do not serve big portions of entrees. They have a curated menu of small bites you can share with friends or order for yourself. More to make sure you're not drinking on empty. BUT don't disregard the food, it's all very well prepared, the flavors are delicious and all a good combination. Try it but don't expect to get full. Again your sitting around these coffee tables to drink, chat, and laugh. Drinks: They make they own in hiuse mixes under "social service" on the menu. They're pretty good and strong, they come out in a champagne bottle so the presentation is nice. You'll have to all want to drink a tequila or vodka based drink. Some in our party got their own drinks and those were good and strong as well. During our dinner reservation we got the glass jugs/bottles of tap water. During the club portion we did have to buy bottles of Fiji water. At one point it did start smelling like weed and I'm pretty sure we walked through a cloud of it. Not sure if that is allowed but better to be prepped for it. We had a good group and would recommend it, we had a good time and had read the reviews to set the expectations correctly in terms of food and drink.

Yelp
Pretty drinks. Everything on the menu looks good to try honestly. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were on top of everything. The inside of the restaurant was beautiful. You just can't help but to take pictures while there.
google avatar

Sofia B.

Yelp
Awful service and management. Was treated absolutely awful the entire time I was there by the staff. Not worth your time or money. Not worth visiting. Absolutely overpriced with very little to offer. The least they can do is offer kindness which they don't. Bar doesn't serve water and will make you pay $5 for Fiji water. Bartender said "bye girl" and waved at me when I told him that he's a state law to serve gap water. I got a red bull vodka that cost me $21- when I asked about the pricing they told me that red bull costs $3 extra. So I guess I paid $18 for ice and a shot of vodka and $3 for red bull. Absolutely mind-blowing. I will never return. This place doesn't match the standards of Yvonne's, Coquette or other Boston hotspot. They have a lot of work to do if they want to last.
google avatar

Ana A.

Yelp
Food: they dont have alot options of food. Is a french Polynesian tapas. If you want eat dont go there. I really recommend the BORA BORA SHIRMP and the CHICKEN SHUMAI! The drinks are good. Very tropical of everything. Service: they are a dinner place from 6:00 to 10:00 they close the kitchen at 11:00 but the waitress tries to push you out at 10pm so they start the night life. Wednesday night life is not busy. You can enjoy quietly! But Friday and Saturday is crazy. Depends of the night they can charge over 60$ to get in and is not even FAMOUS dj. better go in at 8:30pm and have a drink at the bar and wait for the nightlife. Ambiance: the stuff? Not very friendly. You are just one more. Come and go people everyday . So they don't care! If you not happy , just go cross street.

Yelp
Pretty little spot to grab some apps and drinks. Love the decors! Food wasn't bad, def don't go too hungry though. Drinks will def add up! OG passion was good - we replaced the tequila with vodka though. Service wasn't bad either. Good experience and good vibes!
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed dinner and drinks here! The pizzas were great and reasonably priced. My partner ordered the featured old fashioned and it was pretty expensive and strong but he enjoyed it. Service was friendly and attentive. Loved the atmosphere and seating arrangements that felt romantic. Would definitely come back for the club.

Yelp
Came for a night out, celebrating my friends birthday! We booked a table and were able to choose our alcohol of choice while there. There were drinks like red bull, orange juice, pineapple juice and more waiting for us. Our waitress was extremely nice and catering. The interior was so interesting! Definitely had the best vibes.

Justin T.

Yelp
Ambiance was very nice, but do not go here if you want to eat. Food was mediocre at best and the portion for some of the small plates was almost insulting (looking at the chicken skewers). Most of the food was either too salty, too acidic, or just too overwhelming in one specific flavor. The drinks were fine, but very watered down. We were also rushed out and not asked if we wanted to order dessert. Also, what's with the plastic cups for water and cocktails? Very odd. For how expensive this place ended up being, you're better off going somewhere else.
google avatar

Paul A.

Yelp
Amazing new nightclub and after work spot (with food) for small plates. We only tried the nightclub on opening. Fantastic staff from COJE group (Mariel, Lolita, Yvonne's, etc.). The sound, lighting, and decor are all world class. Have not tried the food yet.

Hope T.

Yelp
The decorations and overall ambiance are incredible My personal waitress was great. I came here w large group and it was pretty cool Drinks were below average. Sugary. Bartenders were absolute weirdos and had staring problems as soon as I walked up to get a drink. 20$ for a vodka soda Wouldn't go back Week of 11/20

Vj H.

Yelp
The drinks were horrible couldn't even drink them. Dj wasn't the one advertised. The place was super small.
google avatar

Warzie L.

Yelp
Ambiance is great. Music fantastic. Servers and staff polite and helpful. Food is fine and cocktails good but limited. A great place if you want something different in Boston.
google avatar

Ivy M.

Yelp
The decor and music was great. the only thing we didn't like is if you plan on getting bottle service I don't recommend it. the host stand in front of you the whole time, if she leaves she takes the bottle with her and your not allowed to touch or serve your own drink. we've done bottle service in a lot of places and this defiantly made it weird and uncomfortable
google avatar

Skuffy L.

Yelp
I went to the club portion of caveau for my 21st and it was totally amazing! What an amazing 1st club experience! I would recommend it to everyone! I love the slice and wonderland/cave them! So cool!

V. B.

Yelp
Food was just ok. Place was cool. Music was not good. Would probably not go back. Maybe for younger crowd.

M K.

Yelp
A drink with rohypnol was given to my daughter here.. girls be careful!! Not a safe place!

Andres E.

Yelp
Went for dinner+drinks friday night with 8 friends and stayed for a little bit when it turned into a nightclub. Good stuff: decor, laser lights shows, music, some of the dishes, not all. Bad stuff: very very weak drinks, especially cocktails. standard drinks on the smaller side, over priced drinks, $2 "rocks" per drink... so a black label on the rocks is $18 + $2. How can 3 ice cubes be $2? Overpriced small plates, snacks and bread pizza. Not going back and not recommending.. maybe good to go once and check the decor, but that's all....

Trevor M.

Yelp
Tries hard to be a hot, new spot, but very plain Jane inside and smells weird. Weak drinks, too, sadly. Won't be returning.

Mary R.

Yelp
Place was cute but very small. Drinks were $16 a piece and it was only cocktail. After 11pm they don't serve water you have to buy a bottle of 8 oz Fiji water for $5, if you as for a glass of water they will say no. There was only one bar and the bartenders were incredibly rude. Most of the club is rented table spaces so I really don't recommend it if you don't get a table. The DJ wasn't very good either. It's basically $40 per person for a cute picture. Take that as you will.

Shane R.

Yelp
Food was like microwave pizza, and the $15+ cocktails were served in plastic cups. Yet again, this price-gouging restaurant group is over-charging for mediocrity. You can skip it.

Bryant C.

Yelp
Booked a VIP section for "12" people for a joint birthday and when we were brought to our section it comfortably sat about half that. I know this is somewhat typical at clubs, limo's, etc but this was like 50% capacity which is too much. Also, upon asking about that, the host said she had us down for 10 people so the host I booked with messed that up. I asked what the music format was in advance and was told open format but that night the host told us it was Brazilian night. In the end, the music was ok overall but that could've been very disappointing, not sure why that wasn't communicated. I also wasn't told that they weren't doing the normal bottle service despite asking for a menu in advance and reviewing pricing. Our waitress said they had to keep the bottles in the back and bring out the liquor in "racks" of 5 glasses. This may have actually effected us keeping our reservation despite the other gripes but it was too late at this point. Also, we ordered soda water to be mixed with drinks but they used carafes of what seemed like regular water. The waitress was nice but when we asked about it she said it was soda water. We had to ask for cans to ensure we got what we wanted. The place is cool and vibe was fun but you MUST tell someone who's committed to paying THOUSANDS of dollars of these details in advance. Out of principal, will NEVER return here.
