America’s Caviar Capital Was Once in New Jersey | Eater

"Once the global center of caviar production in the 1880s, this short-lived riverside boomtown on the banks of the Delaware River now exists as a marshy tract near Greenwich with only a rotting pier as evidence of its past. Dozens of riverside dormitories, processing sheds where sturgeon were slaughtered and their eggs prepared, and the railroad that shipped roe off to Europe have all vanished, but at its peak the industry supported hotels, a post office, restaurants and roughly 400 residents—so lucrative that even a slow season could bring in the equivalent of millions of dollars. The boom was jump-started when an immigrant entrepreneur from Hamburg began exporting sturgeon roe by the barrel and local fishermen quickly shifted from discarding sturgeon to building a caviar trade that served elite tables across Europe, even using the eggs on mother-of-pearl spoons and blinis. The run was brief: intense fishing, pollution and habitat damage collapsed local sturgeon populations within decades—catch rates plunged, nets came up empty by 1900, and spawning females in the Delaware fell from an estimated 180,000 in 1890 to only a handful today—ending the industry almost as quickly as it began and prompting many fishermen to seek new fisheries elsewhere." - Claudia Geib

Having visited Caviar by DNHG multiple times, including celebrating my birthday there last week, I can confidently say this restaurant is a true gem in the area. From the moment you walk in, the wow factor is there and it absolutely stands out as one of the most beautiful restaurant spaces in town. The attention to detail, and effort put into the interior space, is wonderful! The owners, Shauna and Nigel, have created something truly special. The service team, particularly Luis and Victor are so attentive. And the kitchen staff deserves immense credit for consistently delivering excellence, and deliciousness, in every single dish! Supporting businesses that bring diversity to the culinary scene adds another layer of satisfaction to the dining experience is extremely important to me. So whether you're a local, or need to cross bridges and tunnels to get there, Caviar is absolutely worth the trip. The team has created something magical here - a perfect combination of exquisite food, wonderful service, and beautiful surroundings! I promise you won't be disappointed. P.S. I have had the pleasure of tasting so much on the brunch menu and EVERYTHING is so good! Do not skip the fluffy, do not skip the crab cakes, do not skip the jerk shrimp, do not skip The Splurge, do not skip the shrimp or salmon & grits, do not skip the french toast, do not skip the lobster hash, do not skip the sliders. lol! Please order it all!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!!! What an experience at the CAVIAR by DNHG!!! My oldest son took my granddaughter for her 11th Birthday celebration. It was family intimate just the 4 of us, very clean, very friendly, very welcoming, musical atmosphere for the customers to enjoy while dining. The Owner makes several introductory visits to your table to insure you are happy & satisfied with the food & services being provided!!! This is a Black owned restaurant, I support her & recommend Caviar for couples as well as family gatherings & or celebrations!!! My son also Celebrated his 35th Birthday on New Year’s Eve & we had a BALL!!! The DJ that night was outstanding & definitely catered to the crowd!!! You only live once so make it count!!! Live your life on purpose with purpose!!! Don’t miss out on the Caviar By DNHG experience!!!

I came to this restaurant for an event. When I arrived I was lucky to find parking but they also have valet. I walked into a gorgeous restaurant! I sat with an amazing group of people. There was food that was served like fluffy, seabass, steak, and of course, fresh caviar! The food and ambiance were amazing! I had a good time! The place is BYOB also.

Brunch @ Caviar was nothing short of Amazing! The food, service, & staff exceptional. It was our 1st time trying caviar and it was delicious found my new favorite bougie appetizer. The restaurant is BYOB with a $15 cork fee. With two appetizers, caviar,& meal it was $300 for two. The music and atmosphere was a whole vibe! We will be back you can bet on it.

From the moment I walked in it felt like I was dining with friends/family the owner greeted us with all smiles and big energy! Food was phenomenal, we had the Spicy Tiger Shrimp the Crab Cakes, the Whole Snapper, and the Pasta with Salmon & Trout Roe Cavier, o and lets not forget the Kaluga Imperial Gold Caviar food was amazing and seasoned to perfection! I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures of everything…We paired it with white wine (this place is BYOB). We were more than full but stayed to enjoyed the music and the vibe, this place is classy and sexy at the same time! Only thing missing was dessert, not that i needed it or could fit anything else in….. im not sure if they have it.. Either way I can’t wait to return, maybe I’ll start by asking about dessert so I can make sure to leave space!😉

My husband and I made reservations for Sunday brunch and had a truly amazing experience. The decor is stunning!! The warmth from Shauna and her team was outstanding. Ryan provided outstanding hospitality. The food was very good and enjoyed the seafood with the option to add Caviar if interested. As a seafood lover I tried crab cakes and lobster and crab hash and the grilled cheese with Caviar was a hit! The fluffy was like no other biscuit I ever had!! Loved the alternative options for those with seafood allergies. Can’t wait to go again!
