"What Caydence lacks in space, it makes up for in heart. Rows and rows of vinyl record bins harken back to simpler days, and cozy seating beckons customers to stay and listen to music. Vinyl fans love the spot’s selection of records, while coffee drinkers marvel at the variety of creative beverages. Sip decadent espresso drinks like the “Polyphia,” made with peanut butter and cardamom; or the Amethyst Verve — a nod to Prince — made with white chocolate, lavender and toasted coconut syrups, espresso, with cotton candy amethyst sprinkles. The back room here comes alive at night — a rotating lineup of local musicians creates an intimate community vibe in this Payne Avenue shop." - Justine Jones

"Catch fleeting daylight with an iced matcha on the new extended patio at Caydence on Payne Avenue in St. Paul. Staff favorite is the iced matcha latte with oat milk, house-made vanilla syrup and a touch of maple syrup for a dolce leche, autumnal vibe." - Alex Lodner

Google
This café has a lovely aesthetic and is a great spot to find unique and rare records. I tried their caramel brûlée, which was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, I did find a strand of hair on the silverware, which affected my appetite. However, I viewed it as an unfortunate accident, and the staff kindly offered me a replacement drink. Overall, it’s a charming café with great music and coffee.

Google
5 starr atmosphere. Beautiful space, high ceilings good light and art. I only had coffee, cold brew, noting to write home about and they lost track of my order. I had to go up and ask about it. But the space and vibe are so good I'm still giving it 5 stars. I will go back and if the service is off or the food is, I will update this review.

Google
What a fun place! The coffee, food, and vibes were all incredible!

Google
What a fun little hidden gem! Had no idea of this place but so glad to have found it. My husband & I reach got a drink, I got the pastry, queen Anne?🤔 everything was prefect & the shop was such a vibe! We bought an old record & even have been back since to bring our daughter(she's into records & music🤭 ) check it out, you won't be disappointed

Google
Laid back cafe with very modest but trendy, menu and coffees. Browse the vinyl and cassette tape collections if inclined or just absorb the ambience, it's chill and casual. Popular with the locals. No alcohol served here so even for late night acts the crowd is never ever boisterous (which I love). There are a range of local bakery baked treats, some sweet and others savory -- very interesting to get some proteins this way too. The hot sandwiches, eggs, tacos etc. are cooked fresh on the spot, on demand, served hot and fresh from a little tabletop two burner stove, cute! Space and a stage at the back for live acts and other community activity by local musicians sometimes

I had heard of Caydence...but never stopped in until last night to catch a gig. Whoa... what a hidden gem!! The door fella was super friendly and caught me offguard when I was reaching for my wallet for the cover charge, when he asked cash or card? We can charge a cover charge? I am a rarity.... no record player, so I didn't look around, also not a coffee drinker so I didn't stop by the counter. I asked the doorman if the shows were standing room only or there were chairs? He said standing but he would check. He popped out w a metal stool. I told him that would be great! The stage area is maybe 35 steps away from the door and there were two small high top tables back there. Before the stage area there are two tables and chairs for guests to sit at, across from the coffee counter. Free street parking is plenty on Payne, most of the hour restrictions are for the afternoon. I liked the friendly door fella even more when he came back to the music area during the first show and was jumping around to the music and taking video! The acoustics/music are great for such a small area. When I left the door fella said they have live music every Friday & Saturday night. I went last night specifically to hear/see the Dirty Pretty but was extremely blown away by the rad music of Polar Red so I may pop in on occasion to hear other local bands... find some new music! If you like local music, have a record player, drink coffee, or just want to support a local business, stop in to Caydence!! Thanks Caydence, Polar Red and The Dirty Pretty fun an outstanding Friday night!!

Love coming here since it’s in our neighborhood but I wish the iced lattes and matcha were made stronger both could use more espresso or matcha. Taste more like milk.

Google
This is a community coffee shop that supports the local community. Besides having great coffee, they also sell records, earrings, handmade soap, show artwork of local artists, and have concerts. It is a great place to have small meetings, to work or just to take a coffee break.

John K.

Yelp
Simple, elegant, record store, delicious coffee and pastries, board games, free parking, live music, excellent staff. Need I say more?

Yelp
Great atmosphere food and of course coffee all reasonable prices. It's a 90's teen/twenty-something dream come true.

Yelp
On a quest to discover the best of the best in local twin city coffee shops. We love finding unique coffee shops and drinks and this one hit the mark. Drinks - 5 definitely had some unique flavors. Tried the polypia. Who would have thunk that peanut butter, lemon and a latte would be good, but it actually was quite tasty. If I had it again, I'd have less of flavoring and more milk n coffee to cut the sweetness. Didn't try any food bc nothing jumped out at us. But that's ok bc we're over the top bakers. Service - 5 very helpful, attentive, fast and nice Ambiance - a solid 5. The throwback to vinyl is only topped by their cool merch. Someone really knows their music and has an eye for fun retro clothing, buttons and stickers Accessibility - 4 bc it took a bit to find parking and streets n sidewalk were very icy

Yelp
Beautiful and classy space. The matcha was nice and earthy, just like how I love it. The savory tartine was delicious! The owner is also super kind and lovely.

Dominik D.

Yelp
Probably the coolest coffee shop I've been to in twin cities, if for no other reason because I haven't seen this concept before. Separate from the idea, it's also a great cappuccino served with foam art and not-hot temperature. I also thought the outdoor art was really something. Clearly the kind of place creatives go to.

Azita r.

Yelp
Great coffee, great service. I would definitely come back. First time here for a relaxing cup of mocha and breakfast tocos. Friendly helpful staff, can recommend.

Ingrid F.

Yelp
Love this place, I've only been a couple of times but I'm hoping to go more! great vinyl and great food!

Renee B.

Yelp
Love the laidback vibe. I had an americano, which was just ok and the omelet which was very tasty. The side salad was delicious and had a lovely light (but flavorful) dressing. I have had their specialty drink- the Polyphia in the past and it is so good but definitely a sweeter indulgence.

Heather M.

Yelp
I love this little spot! Parking was easy, the staff was friendly, and the space is nice! I enjoyed perusing through all the records and found a small stack to take home! For coffee, I got a hot Polyphia to go and it was FANTASTIC - the best peanut butter latte flavor I've had and loved the lemon/spice hints to it, too! I would definitely recommend this spot and will be back the next time I'm in town!

Yelp
What a wonderful pairing of two favorite things coffee and records! This wonderful shop/cafe is worth the journey. With a delightful selection of record and a penchant for quality coffee you won't be disappointed. Great seating options both outside and in married with staff this is joyful to help and be present. They offer some options from five watt coffee, so if you're a five watt lover, you'll feel equally at home both for the quality coffee and quality music.

Rebecks L.

Yelp
First time here! we Came in this morning for two iced coffees! Service is great we were hosted by the redhead who walked us thru the menu. 3 stars bc the process of getting our drinks took longer than usual & we also realized they forgot to substitute oatmilk. We are lactose & didn't realize it until our stomachs told us lol :S the barista must have missed the non-dairy note. We called within the hour to ask if they had made a mistake so we could be sure & the person who answered wasn't fully sure but was apologetic. He said they remembers doing oatmik but who really knows. Lol I'd give it another chance! I might just be really adamant on making sure they do oatmilk next time.

York S.

Yelp
I like the drinks, the staff are great, and they have a solid selection of $2 records, which I am all about. Also cool that they host events/shows sometimes.

RV B.

Yelp
One of the best coffee shops I've encountered! Greg was a delight! Couldn't think of a better way to start my morning. Amazing selection of Media also!

Tom R.

Yelp
I got their Polyphia drink and bought a Polyphia album, honestly the drink wasn't for me but I had to do it. Have been here one other time and they have great cappuccinos too

Rosie K.

Yelp
I walked in here via recommendation, and wow! What a cool atmosphere. The barista was so genuinely friendly. I felt awkward, because it seemed like everyone here was a regular haha, but I'll be making my way to that status soon ;) The dark roast was excellent, ACTUALLY dark and it acidic, well-balanced. I don't know my records very well but this place makes me want to take a look at them. There is also live music in the back, which is awesome. Check this place out, definitely a little Saint Paul gem!

Al K.

Yelp
Look, Caydence doesn't need my recommendation to keep being an incredible coffee shop. Nonetheless: I will say this. Best damn cappuccino this side of the Mississippi. Stop looking up reviews of this place and just go there.

Sophie S.

Yelp
Best coffee shop in the area. I started working in East Saint Paul this year and have designated this to be my home coffee shop! The vibes are also excellent because it doubles as a record store & has a stage in the back for performances. Very kind staff. Very cute outdoor seating in the summer too. Ps. Get the polyphia if you're up for a unique drink.

Tatyana F.

Yelp
Perhaps one of the best cups of coffee I ever had. And I had many:) Try their Mocha with dark chocolate and mint. I never had anything like that. Perked me up right away. Place is very cozy, food is OK, obviously not Michelin star, but if you need something to tie you over - it's good enough. Very nice records collection. Ask baristas about some of their records, they know their Deep Purple:)

Kong L.

Yelp
Pretty cool vibe, located on a corner. I love the fusion of the coffee shop and record shop. The menu is limited but just enough options to find something that you'll enjoy. I got the coffee with the orange flavor. It was good and was able to put me in high gear after a long day. Good customer service! I would stop in again for a quick cup of coffee.

Laurie A.

Yelp
Delicious, no frills coffee. Cozy, fun decor. And vintage vinyl, used CDs, and cassettes. We have been meaning to make it over to Caydence for awhile and are so glad we finally did. An unassuming corner spot on Payne Avenue, this East Side gem has a small, but mighty coffee menu, some lemonades and tea, and a few pastries. They serve locally roasted Bootstrap Coffee beans and brew a good cup. If you're looking for some vinyl, Caydence has a random assortment of used pop, rock, new wave, jazz, punk, and even local artists. It's not the biggest selection, but a fun and quirky collection to browse through as you sip your coffee. All in all, Caydence is a fun little spot, perfect for an afternoon to grab a cup of coffee and chill out for an hour or so.

Marcos R.

Yelp
I don't even do coffee that often, but when I first heard of this spot I knew I had to make an effort to visit. I turned the visit into a bike ride across the Cities over to Payne Ave. It was my first time in that part of St. Paul. Down the street there is what looks to be a real-deal tacqueria and bar. Look for their coffee specialty drinks. They aren't posted on the overhead sign, but maybe printed on a specialty menu that you can see once you get to the front of the counter. At the time of my visit they were offering a cold press brew w/horchata in it. It looked pretty good. You'll find some great tunes to listen to and buy. Vinyl records is where it's at, right. While their collection of music is modest, it spans all the genres that most people can get into. In the warmer months they have outdoor seating on the sidewalk along side the shop. I can't wait to return.

Lauren N.

Yelp
Went to eat in the area and decided to stop by here afterwards to study for a little bit. I love the area and think it's definitely underrated as far as things to do and places to eat. The actual coffee shop definitely is a different, hip environment perfect for lovers of music and vinyl. It was fun to take a break between doing work to look at the albums that they have to offer...at pretty decent prices too! Staff were very friendly. Seemed to have a lot of regular customers come in who they know well. A little slow to notice when someone was at the register though because the bar where they made drinks was so high that it made it difficult for one to see over. Able to sit and work for a few hours without it getting too busy where I felt overwhelmed. Smaller coffee shop but I noticed a stage in the backroom where they have performances (I'm guessing more for local artists) which is pretty fun! Wouldn't mind checking out a show sometime. Although it would have been nice if they had more seating back there in case it got more crowded.

Roxanne S.

Yelp
Super cool. Prompt staff and great ambiance. Space is a little tight. Have not perused the records, but it's clear they have a popular selection. Music is a little loud for a coffee shop, but it's a record shop so makes sense. Variety of music being played, which is great. And they have live music in the evenings!

Lora B.

Yelp
Got my PB coffee to go about a month ago and they were super kind over the phone & quick to bring me my java right to my car!

Xia Y.

Yelp
Great corner coffee shop. Very cozy inside and I enjoy the ambiance given it's also a record shop. I believe the back room is an art gallery which is always nice to see shops supporting local artists or arts.

Camille B.

Yelp
"Perhaps once I've finished being awestruck I can write that review" - Said by me a few weeks ago when I first started coming here. I was greeted with a barista of the most friendliest porportions, like epic friendliness people! The interior is absolutely beautiful with great use of reclaimed wood. Records! So many! Well curated selection! Diverse selection as well my friends from Odetta to Propagandhi, Woody Guthrie to Miles Davis. If you don't have a record player just get one. The sound quality is fire. Oh, and the coffee? Bangin'. Seriously, check out the Miel for a spicey combo like no other. I now adorn a sticker on my car from this spot and come spend probably too much money multiple times a week here. But I'm keepin' it because it sparks so much joy.

Lee A.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwich I have ever eaten. Scrambled eggs, sausage on a roll is normally boring but the garlic confit and the green sauce takes boring and makes your mouth sing.

Brock S.

Yelp
Most combo businesses fall short in one of the categories, but not Caydence. A full-fledged coffee bar with a surprising amount and quality of records to peruse. It's apparent they're passionate about music based on both the selection and volume of music in the store. Add to all of this that they have a substantial back room stage with a cool garage window available to host live music makes this place a winner.

Scott C.

Yelp
So Amazon sells records. Best Buy sells records. Target sells records. None of them are record shops. Caydence is a RECORD SHOP. Record stores can help lift a neighborhood. Plopping an Aldi in a empty lot might help numbers but not a neighborhood. Listen to the sounds in Caydence on any given day. It's a soundtrack of the area. You hear what music and the arts provide a few city blocks. More than ever places like this are an oasis. We need lots and lots more places like this. Lots.

Jaime H.

Yelp
Coffee and records! This place reminded me of a shop I would see in Hollywood.... But cleaner. Service with a smile, good coffee. I wish them well.

Kuvlubnpe H.

Yelp
Local. Welcoming. Personality. Friendly. Relevant. Wheelchair accessible from the front of the store. Q: How loud is the music? A: Just perfect - easy listening and drowns out chatter yet you don't have to yell above it to have your own conversation. You can study, get work done, or read a book comfortably. Seating: There's a long hightop against the natural light 3 windows along the front of the store with 6 stools. Six low 2-seater tables that can be adjusted for larger groups. Stage for performances and additional seating in the back of the store for larger group work or more private studying . (Not pictured Bc people were in the space , however it is a good size and very cute!) Coffee: The basics and a few seasonal features which is perfect for a place like this. Today, I tried hot chocolate (their own special blend) the Dessert Island which was a featured winter coffee drink. I requested to scale back the sugar and it was just right for my taste. Hints of agave, clove, and they added their housemade coconut syrup. Beautiful presentation, smell and lovely taste made me feel warm and cozy. Come visit this quaint little East Side gem ! Love it and will be back

Dan L.

Yelp
Really cool little record shop / Cafe that as a musician and coffee lover I cannot commend enough. Picked up some coasters made of old records, which was pretty cool. I had some sort of peanut flavored coffee drink which tasted like drinking Thai food but in a really good way. Also very friendly staff!

Mallory J.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to work! The vibe here is so awesome and their music selection is on point. It always feels like a neighborhood hangout here and you can start up conversation with anyone. They always have some awesome goodies for sale too on top of all the vinyl they sell. LOVE it here.

Stella C.

Yelp
Totally bias because I work here but ‍ 10/10 place you won't find anything else like it in Saint Paul, Plus our music selection is excellent along with the coffee.

Annie M.

Yelp
Coffee so-so, but pricey. Counter guy seemed pissed off (?) No comfy seating, armless chairs with corner-ripped plastic seats (painful!) Music a bit loud, but they sell records so that makes sense.

Ashley G.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and delicious coffee. Shared a 16oz. Latte and the largest apple fritter I have ever seen for $8. The music playing in the background is chill and there are small tables with people working on laptops. There are lots of records to browse and occasionally have concerts in the back so check that out. This is a new favorite of ours!

Mai T.

Yelp
The best coffee I've ever had. Coffee will never be the same. Just go because it's totally worth the trip. :)

Burton Z.

Yelp
Exactly the kind of cool little place you hope it is. Buy / sell records, great coffee drinks, nice rockers behind the counter, cozy digs, strong wifi signal. Be warned, they favor Emo music here so if that's not your cup of tea, bring your Beats. We need one in Minneapolis!

Ryan K.

Yelp
The staff at Caydence are great! Super friendly. Coffee is solid. Record selection is consistently good. I usually walk out with 3-4 used records on every visit.

Jack G.

Yelp
Friendly staff and great coffee! A really good and different selection of records too. Some real gems to be found here. Try the creme brûlée coffee!

Matthew C.

Yelp
Great little coffee shop, but more importantly, coffee and records... or cd's, or tapes.

C R.

Yelp
I live within basically a 60-second walk of Caydence. I love Payne-Phalen, it's a great area to raise a family and I'm enjoying what is hopefully a resurgence in an area that's been traditionally-underserved. Having an independent coffeeshop like Caydence adds to the atmosphere and charm of the neighborhood, and I'm grateful that they're there. Their record selection is excellent, and they have some tapes and other bits and bobs to add to the mix. It's a good atmosphere - I enjoy the live events that happen on the sidewalk patio. They have some good non-coffee drinks as well, which are fun to go get for my daughters. The non-coffee drinks, and the mixed coffee drinks, are pretty good. That said, where I feel they really stumble is the actual coffee drinks. Their brewed coffee and espresso-based drinks come off as burnt and undrinkably bitter unless I add a ton of milk. Dogwood, Spyhouse, Quixotic - ALL do far better with just their basic brewed coffee, or espresso-based drinks like Americanos. There are no pour-overs. It's disappointing because I *really* want to like a place like this, but for me, if the coffee isn't top-notch, it's not a place that's going to lure me in. Their snack selection, while basic, is fine - sometimes you just want a little pastry or whatever to go with your coffee. Like I said...I want to love Caydence; I believe in supporting local businesses, and what could be better than a cool and hip little indie coffee place two blocks from my house? If the coffee game were to be upped, I would quickly and gladly change my mind.

Susan C.

Yelp
What a great neighborhood find. Do you like interior design, creativity, good coffee and music? This is the place to visit and enjoy! Glad to have Caydence in my neighborhood. Love the scones, too, provided with a special culinary surprise treat!

Amal I.

Yelp
Awesome coffee, atmosphere and staff!! Specialty coffee selection is delish! And the vibe of the cafe is so chill, perfect place to study alongside the nicest staff. 10/5!

Jenny H.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about Caydence and don't even know where to start... Let's begin with their staff, The barista is so welcoming and genuine, not the token and monotone, "Hey, welcome.." No, this guy gives you the most genuine welcoming greeting and smile when you come in. He also happens to make a killer drink as well, I don't know many coffee shops that bring you your coffee as you work on your laptop. Then there is the vinyl, they have a good selection for the size of their spot. The classics as well as new records that you can't get many other places. The guy who does the ordering and manages the music is super cool and easy going, fun to talk to about music or whatever else. Overall just such a good vibe, I live in MPLS but work in St. Paul and can say that this is MY new coffee shop. Great people, good vibes, supported locally. What more can you ask for?

Adam S.

Yelp
Amazing coffee shop on the East Side. Feels on par with anything you'd find in Minneapolis or New York or Chicago. Independent, friendly, awesome coffee. Plus you can get your vinyl fix. Out of the probably thousands of coffee shops I've been to, this is in my Top 10.

Susan F.

Yelp
This place is great. They make their own syrups. I got their vanilla bean latte and it was v yummy. Matt was very kind

Johnnie M.

Yelp
a cool variety of vinyls, good coffee and food. staff is friendly and the place has a cool vibe
