"Hidden 'round the corner of California and Augusta, CC Ferns is a one of those sweet little spots you always dream of stumbling across. Weekday or weekend, begin your day here with cortado, espresso, or an iced coffee brewed from Ferns' custom Metropolis roast. Mysteriously dubbed “Project X,” it's needfully strong with a cocoa and earth forward flavor, no acidity or bitterness here. Opened in 2015, the cafe is owned by the folks at The California Clipper and shares a backroom with the dimly-lit dive, which has been there since 1937. The bar's liquor license extends to the cafe, making it a Sunday morning mecca where you can pick up an adorably named Boozy Steamer. During the weekday billable hours, maybe stick with a doughnut and cold brew—the steamers do not mess around. We highly recommend the Scotch & Honey, made with Famous Grouse, almond and honey, for a double-edged buzz." - Firebelly Design

California Clipper, Humboldt Park’s Landmark Tavern, Has Closed Permanently - Eater Chicago
"Brendan Sodikoff has closed his only bar as he confirms that they’ve shuttered the 21-year-old California Clipper and its neighboring coffee shop, C.C. Ferns. Crews were seen earlier this week emptying out the space at California and Augusta." - Ashok Selvam
I love this cafe. They have awesome drinks, decor and ambiance. Really chill vibe. Has a discreet door off Augusta so stop in and grab a cup of joe. They also have cigars if that's ur thing. 10/10

From an ambience and music standpoint this is definitely what I’ve been looking for all over Chicago. And after more than 55 coffee shops, hooray!
The place is stunning, vintage, cabin like decor, I felt transported to another time and country.
Barista is extremely friendly, accommodating and my macadamia latte was excellent.
Would love more Pacific barista blend milks - almond, etc.
Can’t wait to return.

Great coffee and a very nice atmosphere. There are also a good selection of pastries and donuts from the donut vault here. This is a great place to sit and read or chat with a friend. I highly recommend.

Great coffee and unique and relaxing atmosphere. This place is a bit small so seating is limited. Nice place to get some work done. Good wifi. I also tried their Boozy Steamer called Whiskey and Cream and it was delicious. They also sell cigars here which is interesting. This is definitely a very unique neighborhood spot to check out.

I really love C.C. Ferns! Excellent coffee and donuts only outshined by the service. The staff does great at engaging and making your morning better. They truly care about what they're doing. It does get crowded on weekends but I'm planning a trip to try the boozy coffees here soon!

This was my favorite coffee that I had while in Chicago. Next time I’m in town I’ll definitely make a trip back to this place for coffee. I mean it was really good. It may be my favorite coffee that I’ve had ever. The inside is really small and there was nowhere to sit and I had a difficult time finding a parking spot but the trouble was more than worth it. Would DEFINITELY recommend.

The cappuccino was excellent. You can totally taste the creaminess of the coffee and the ratio of milk to espresso and foam was on point. Quality is a 5/5, but that's a given since they use Sawada coffee.
The atmosphere is a little uncomfortable because it is a small place with low ceilings and limited seating, so it feels too crammed. I wish they had more couches. The decor is very cool and eclectic. It's most definitely a spot for "hipsters" and people from diverse subcultures.
