✨ A Truly Uplifting Experience ✨ We had the absolute pleasure of visiting Cecil Sharp House for a special event featuring Master Shi Heng Yi, sharing wisdom from his profound book Shaolin Spirit. What a memorable and soul-stirring evening! The venue itself was a perfect match for the occasion—steeped in character, history, and calm energy. There’s something beautifully grounding about Cecil Sharp House: the atmosphere invites reflection, learning, and connection. It felt both intimate and spacious, creating an ideal setting to absorb the deep, mindful teachings of Master Shi Heng Yi. From the moment we arrived, everything ran smoothly—from the warm welcome at the door to the serene, almost sacred ambience of the room where the talk took place. Hearing Master Shi Heng Yi speak in person was truly inspirational. His words carried both clarity and calm, blending ancient Shaolin wisdom with a deep understanding of the modern mind. We left not only with a signed copy of Shaolin Spirit but with a heart full of insight and gratitude. A huge thank you to the organisers and Cecil Sharp House for hosting such a transformative event. We would return in a heartbeat. 🌿✨

I attended Cabaret Melancholique (very versatile and fun show). I had a great time, though the stage and seating is such that if you're more than three rows back You won't be able to see anything happening below what would be waist level for someone standing on the stage. I definitely missed out on a lot because many of the acts ended up lying down on the stage, at which point I couldn't see anything. Next time I'll grab a seat on the raised bench that runs around the inside of the theater area.

A hidden gem in Camden, being a fan of classical and folk music I came across this place by chance. Initially came to watch Catrin Finch perform, but found a range of talented artists along with her. And the workshops which they conduct seems to be inclusive and engaging as well. The overall environment was very positive and it acts as a haven for musicians from all backgrounds.

Ran a Lazer Tag party in the garden for a couples 7 year old child. This was a good space for a party. Indoors space is large enough but it was sunny and warm so everything was done in the garden.

was a very good place the stalls were amazing and the artists were really talented... However there was a dude in a blue and black suit sat next to a girl dressed in pink lying down and he was screaming something about "SEASALT. I NEED YOU SEASALT." Have no idea why but i decided to ignore

Lovely venue primarily based around folk dancing and education, with a library. Attended as I was part of a panel talk on film. The hall that’s available for hire is a room primarily set for dance. With large step seats all around. Staff all seemed very helpful, with a nice cafe in the basement area.

Yelp
Cecil Sharp House is the official home of English Folk dance and song ... how ironic that I only ever visit when there's no music going on. Usually for the annual Permaculture Festival, I suppose there is an overlap in demographics, but permaculture is more about gardening and sustainable lifestyles than culture. Having said that they also curate a programme of art exhibitions, an interesting place altogether. The cafe downstairs changed a while back and has become a lot more conventional (used to be leaning more towards vegan), but cakes and sandwiches are still good value. Mind you, the random selection of homebaked cakes from a stall in the main hall for Permaculture generally wins ...

Yelp
No ventilation and quick-paced contra dancing made me a very sweaty girl! After about an hour-I was already on a 'time out' from all the twirling and passing-someone opened a back door and cooled the hall down a bit. Thank goodness. For further cooling off and a chance to escape the lurking single dudes that may not have only come to the Cecil Sharp House to cut a rug, there's a cafe downstairs. Drown your perspiration and hide from others' desperation in a frosty, cold brew!

Yelp
This is a great place if you like folk music and folk dancing! Saw Maz O Connor there last night (if you like folk music I'd recommend checking her out, awesome singer/songwriter). it's an old stately type house. They have a bar and cafe downstairs, where they also sell home made snacks (sausage rolls etc). There are a few rooms where they hold folk dancing sessions and other events and then there's the main hall where the main events are held. As you'd except, everyone is super friendly. It's close to Camden Town station too. Defo recommend!

Yelp
I'm only going to this place when its winter and my friend is singing in the choir. I have to say that the cafe in the basement has improved compared to last year. Nice arrangements of cake and biscuits, very decent pasta and a glass of wine. what more do you need to listen to a choir sing sailor sings. The main room where they were singing has seen better days, but it still in good shape and with £5 entrence fee the whole thing is rather cheap for 1.5 hours of jolly good fun. After the concert everyone is heading to the bar in the basement for alcoholic drinks and more singing.

Yelp
Went here to hear a 'folkie' style band. It was really hard to find & when i asked for directions nobody knew it or had heard of it. Walked miles the wrong way till i asked the right guy. Its one of the strangest venues i have ever been too. Not much in the way of refreshments but the staff were lovely & i won a bottle of pink champers in the raffle! It was a fun evening and i learnt about Cecil Sharp, who until then i had never heard of.

Yelp
Further to booking Cecil Sharp house for my sons 2nd birthday party and contracts being signed etc, it would appear the management had second thoughts after the invitations were sent out, apparently due to lack of staffing and subsequently forced us to have to source an alternative venue with minimal time. In my many years of planing various events & parties, I have never experienced such unprofessionalism, added to the fact that we were forced to use their caterers if we wanted warm food who were uncontactable and equally as unprofessional when contact was finally made after 5th time of trying. It may be a nice venue, if someone else has managed to book something and go ahead with it, but I strongly advise against even approaching them for an event of your own, unless you are prepared to be disappointed.

Yelp
A beautiful venue with a slightly unusual layout. The gig we went to everyone decided to sit on the floor around the stage but they also have inbuilt seating around the edge and side. So if that was a regular occurrence you may went to get there early to get a cushioned seat. They also have a nice bar and cafe downstairs. They have some good bottled beers which doesn't cost you and arm and a leg. The ciabatta sandwiches were also pretty tasty as a quick snack. (Visit - Evening 25/05/2015)
