I’m hesitant to leave a review because (1) this is probably the best kept secret in Abilene, and (2) I don’t want trashy people ruining this place, but here goes. Besides the state park trails, this waterway is a great hiking path that makes you forget you’re in the middle of a city (or in the Abilene area). There’s deer and plenty of birds (and the occasional cat).
Walking from the start of the trail at S 11th to College Dr and back is a little short of 5 miles. There is only one spot where terrible people have made it their dumping ground for mattresses, trash, and old furniture. Other than that, the rest is very clean and has well kept paths to follow. At the train tracks, you’ll also be treated to 1st grade drawings done by ‘taggers’ that think they know how to use spray paint to create works of art.
Private property is well marked and there are no fences. Just stay on the paths.
If you’re someone that likes leaving trash everywhere you go, this isn’t the place for you. There are no trash cans on the trail. However, if you’re someone that wants to enjoy nature and get some exercise, then come here and enjoy.
