"Where to Stay: Cedar Lakes Estate, set on 500 acres, features cottages and cabins for Winter Weekends that include meals and activities." - Travel + Leisure Editors
"A 500-acre former 1940s summer camp turned year-round retreat about 75 miles from New York City, this estate converts into an all-inclusive winter resort each season (beginning Nov. 22) geared toward cozy weekend getaways, weddings, and retreats. Rates include most outdoor winter activities such as snowshoeing, sledding, curling, and ice skating, plus miles of hiking trails when there’s no snow, and indoor offerings like game nights; guests can also pay extra for experiences like private dinners in faux igloos, ice fishing, and maple sugaring. Farm-to-table meals (nonalcoholic beverages excluded) cover a hearty country breakfast, picnic lunches, and multi-course dinners, and weekend visitors can attend a communal Saturday Supper Series with music—non-guests may book a seat for a single evening. Overnight accommodations are cottages, suites, or cabins with rustic-chic decor (oversized chesterfields, wooden barn doors), and winter stays require a minimum two-night booking (three nights on holidays) with bookings available Thursday through Sunday; rates start at $665 per night." - Stefanie Waldek Stefanie Waldek Stefanie Waldek is a space, travel, and design journalist with expertise in aviation, meteorology, and polar regions. "Cedar Lakes Estate, in New York’s Hudson Valley, has gone through several iterations—starting as a sleepaway camp for kids from Harlem, then an Olympics training ground, and eventually, a wedding and event venue with a wide variety of accommodations, from high-ceilinged cottages to huge rooms with bunk beds. But last year, as large gatherings were canceled, owners Stephanie and Lisa Karvellas reworked their business plan to pivot to cabin getaways, which had previously only been available in the wedding off-season, in hopes of recouping some of the money lost from postponed weddings. They imagined a place where couples, families, and pandemic pods could spend a weekend in nature, with plenty of fresh air and incredible meals."
