When I started working in Philadelphia in 2005, the group of people that I used to have lunch with would order from Shitty Pizza (City Pizza). Obviously not thrilled with what I was consuming I set out for options. Celebre's was up the street so I decided to give them a try. Again, I was not impressed with the quality of pizza. Coming to grips with the fact that this was going to be a challenge, I decided to try sandwiches from Celebre's. On both occasions, I was extremely disappointed. The Chicken-Parm sandwich was a disaster, and to be a Philly establishment, the bread sucked. In 2006 I officially wrote this place off and didn't set foot in the place again.
Last week was the first time, since my self-imposed ban, I walked into Celebre's. Two of my friends decided to have lunch here. I walked into Celebre's extremely concerned about this lunch. Expecting to be disappointed, I started complaining the moment we left the office through the entire car ride. "Oh they don't take debit cards, now I have to get cash out of the ATM and pay a fee" I cried. When we walked into the Celebre's my friend picked a table along the far wall from the entrance. They could afford to remove some of the tables along the far wall. I know I am a chubby dude, but my friend is in the gym 5 days a week and he was bumping into tables trying to get into the booth. I guess you can say my defenses were so far up I was looking for anything to complain about.
We ordered a large pepperoni pie for the table, and we each had a chicken caesar salads. Now the salad process was a little interesting. Our waitress took travel containers out of the fridge that was filled with lettuce. She ran them under the water from the fountain machine and gave them to girl behind the counter, where the rest of the salad was prepared. Like I said the process was interesting but overall the salad was not bad. The chicken was fresh as it was cut and placed on the salad right off the grill. I was also pleased that they did not serve it with the creamy Caesar dressing. I think the croutons were made from pizza dough. I am not quite sure but it was interesting.
As for the pizza...well eh. It will never be the best in my opinion but either they've slightly improved, or I've just had worst since that I can't tell. One thing for sure they are much better than Shitty Pizza (City Pizza). I still won't be the one to suggest eating here but, I am probably not going to avoid it like the plague.
