We came here for Taco Tuesday last night. I suggested it based on the delicious-looking Instagram pics. I'd never been to the previous restaurant, but from what my husband told me, the new interior looked like a completely different space. It was really lovely (aside from the awful overhead ceiling fan lighting on the covered patio), but I think booths would have made it cozier.
First of all, we weren't offered chips and salsa, and commented that this was the basic expectation for any Mexican place. We ordered $14 guacamole and chips. The guac came in a small, flat, can-shaped mold along with the tiniest bowl of chips. It was pretty flavorless and tasted mostly like mashed avocado, and the chips weren't fresh and were likely from a bag.
The menu was confusing and also laughably expensive. The only taquitos were octopus taquitos. A few of the items mentioned that they were "tacos," "quesadillas," AND "taquitos" in the same item description... what was it? Drinks were in different sections, sides didn't have prices, and lots of misspellings and weird formatting. The prices for everything were pretty ridiculous. Individual tacos (which was the special!) shouldn't cost $7, non-fresh chips and mole shouldn't cost $10, and everything else was priced similar an airport, theme park, or trendy high-end restaurant. The food was good, but not worth any of these prices.
I was most disappointed by the drinks. The Pasion de Celia (passion fruit, lime juice, and tequila) tasted mostly like Kern's juice with a splash of lime. The glass was lined with sugar down the outside, when the drink was already too sweet. I tried again with a Cadillac margarita ($18 for well tequila) that tasted like a glass of lime juice that someone added a shot glass full of salt to. Just citrus and salt. I tried ordering an extra tequila shot to balance it out and make it taste better, but it didn't help.. I've had many Cadillacs in my life and they shouldn't taste this way. I think it was the first time I've left a drink that ended up costing $30+ on the table.
The rest of the food was good and the restaurant space is really pretty. My favorite dish was the esquites. But we've never spent over $100 on a taco Tuesday when we didn't even order any entrees (just 4 tacos and 3 sides), and 3 drinks between us, for nothing special.
