Cell Phone Parking Lot

The cell phone lot at Austin Bergstrom really needs more parking spaces. Every time we’ve used it, the lot fills up quickly, and it’s clear there just isn’t enough room for the number of people waiting on arrivals. A large portion of the area is taken up by EV charging stations, and while those are useful, it feels like the balance is off—there simply aren’t enough regular spots for everyone else. There also seems to be quite a bit of space dedicated to fast-food and other businesses that doesn’t really serve the main purpose of the lot. Overall, it’s convenient when you can actually find a spot, but the layout and priorities could use some improvement to better serve travelers and families waiting to pick up passengers.

I really loved this location. I have an hour drive to airport and with traffic it can be more some times. Was great to have a place to wait until airplane arrive before pulling up.

Nowhere near enough parking for the number of cars. I was here at 10 p.m. on a random weeknight and was shocked by how packed it was. The situation is made worse by stubborn drivers who linger in the full lot, causing congestion and testing the patience of already frustrated drivers by refusing to move. To make matters worse, many leave their blinding halogen headlights on while parked. This not only adds to the discomfort of everyone around but also misleads those circling the lot into thinking a spot is about to open, leading to even more unnecessary delays and frustration. Here’s hoping the undeveloped land across Spirit of Austin Lane can eventually be converted into an extension of the cell phone lot, effectively doubling or tripling the number of available spaces.

So little parking for the numbers of people! Entrance to the lot is all the way to the right so you have to hustle over or risk missing it. The roadway as you enter is NARROW so be careful if you have a larger vehicle. Whataburger and Subway are here and a couple other places, as well as a gas station.

For an airport cell phone lot its better than some. Has picnic benches, portable toilets, huge trash cans and is paved. It is also located such that you can see the planes take off and land. For someone who grew up with a dad that would grab burgers from Airport Haven and take us to sit at the end of the old Mueller airport to watch the underbelly of the Braniff planes fly over, this is pretty close.

The cell phone parking lot makes it easy to wait for incoming arrivals instead of driving around in circles. As soon as the person you are picking up calls you to let you know where they are standing outside, it takes about 5 minutes to drive around and pick them up. The cell phone lot is on the airport premises and is free.

I've been in worse places, but even those places seemed to have relatively clean portajohns by comparison. For real though I think the only way they could be more gross is if you were to kick it over before using it. The open lot I can deal with but the John is festering so hold your breath from about 2 steps away upon entry and if you gotta sit just got to the shell across the 71.
