Sweet spot fo pool and shuffle board. Pricing is pretty standard - based on number of ppl and time spent. Plenty of tables, and sometimes a wait (but usually pretty short - we only waited 20min). They have live jazz some night, which was a plus. Good selection of drinks and reasonably priced as well.

The food here is a bit plain, but the goal is the activities. The curtains around the table tennis tables will occasionally leak out balls. Otherwise, the tables are well maintained. The billard tables / shuffle board are decently well used. There's an arcade hidden in the back with card games by the front desk

We had a really great time at Cellar Dog! Very surprising and a place like this to see employees that are nice and friendly and welcoming! The jazz band was excellent and I noticed they also play at other venues where the cover charge is much higher. We also got to interact with the band on their break and they couldn't have been nicer. They serve beer and wine, and the beer choices were excellent and they were kind enough to let us taste and sample a bunch of options! They don't serve food, but they let us know that we could easily get delivery there. We did and it was easy and simple. Although it was bustling when we arrived at 7:30 that's a great time to get a seat in front of the band… It keeps getting more crowded as it gets later. Also, they have tables with various games on them.. So It might be easier to get one of those if you come on the early side. I would say the age group was definitely under 30 or 35 we were older, but we felt comfortable and welcomed. We are looking forward to coming back!

super fun place to hang out with friends. they have lots of board games as well as billiards, ping pong, and shuffle board. if you go on the weekend, expect long wait times for these games- better to go during the week days. they also have a great live jazz band playing. overall very enjoyable place with lots of entertainment! highly recommend.

Bouncer high as a kite. Best description is “crowded basement of mouth-breathers”. Charged entry fee because of live jazz music, yet they drowned it out by also blasting different music from speakers. As a result, loud so everyone screaming over each other. Go to Game Room for quarters. Long line for ping pong, good luck.

got a DELICIOUS cider and listened to jazz on a monday night. had tons of space and the games looked so fun! just what my partner and i needed. if i lived in nyc i think this would be the spot i would bring my friends to. and cheap cover!!!

The incompetent bouncer was pressing my friend and I about our IDs. When we showed our IDs (we’re both 23), he asked for a second form of ID after glancing at the IDs we just gave him. I told him I didn’t have a second form of ID and asked what was wrong with my ID but he couldn’t give an answer. My friend gave his second form of ID but he kept saying it wasn’t him on the ID (like what, who is that then??) and even asked him for a passport. I asked him if he can scan our IDs or something to verify bc how can he prove our IDs are fake. Again, no answer. Mind you, we already played pool for an hour and were sitting down in the front row to watch the jazz band perform when he came up to us. He finally left us alone but I was obviously upset and he had the audacity to come back to us talking about "why I was making a face" like who wouldn't make a face after the situation you put us in. Bro was rage baiting sooo hard so he can kick us out but it didn't work. ALSO the pool tables are sooo DIRTY. Even if the situation with the bouncer hadn’t occurred, we’re never coming back to this raggedy place again. FYI: I’ve noticed there are several bad reviews about this bouncer. I understand this place is close to NYU hence why they probably get a lot of fakes but why would you inconvenience paying customers instead of investing in some kind of method to actually verify IDs, like HELLO it’s 2026.

Wow what a crazy amalgamation of things in one space. The jazz was fantastic, and the beer list equally so. And if you want to play pool or ping pong while listening to said awesome jazz, this is the one place you can do that.

Hadn't bee here in almost 5 years when the place was still Fat Cat. Came on a Saturday evening around 9pm to catch a Jazz show. Cover was $10 a person, which should've been our first sign. Bar only served beer and wine, and for a dive bar vibe they were not dive bar prices. The bartenders were brusque but at least quick: guess there's no excuse since they didn't have to make any drinks. The bar also seems to have gotten rid of all of its seating in favor of a myriad of extra pool tables. There were maybe only 3 booths in the place, and seating in front of the stage amounted to a handful of decrepit old church pews, enough for maybe 15 people in all. I guess the thought is if people don't have anywhere to sit, they might as well spend money to play pool/shuffleboard/ping pong. Of course, the obvious problem with that is since that means there's also no room to stand, people trying to play pool kept bumping into people just trying to stand somewhere. And don't let me give the wrong impression: it's not like the place was busy; it only felt cramped because 80% of the floor space was taken up by ~15 pool tables, only a few of which were in use at any one time. I guess the bar owners think there's better margins in billiards than beers.

Eric and Zack are great. All the staff very friendly. The tables are really well maintained. Please respect them, keep your drinks off them! It's a much chiller vibe on the off nights Sunday-Wednesday. The mood gets considerably less cool when the crowd starts to get more enthusiastic and a bit entitled. But such is the price of success? Two minor gripes what happened to the draft, maybe offer happy hour? Respect jazz musicians, tip them people!

This place is a giant underground playground, and it's got it all: live jazz, pool tables, ping pong, arcade games, shuffleboard, cards, and board games. They have big tables that make excellent arenas for chugging beer and beating your friends in Durak. I believe our cover was about $5-$10 on a weeknight.

Underwhelming! The bouncer was super rude. There was a sign at the door that they were closed for a private party, but it wasn't easy to see since the door was propped open and there was a bouncer at the door. Usually that's not the orientation for a "private party"; he rudely said "read the sign" and didn't make eye contact. The sign also didn't have a date on it so I wondered if it was from a previous night. Is double-checking with a human really that bad? I came back another day and they were open to the public. The cover was $5 for a band that was okay. The bench seating is rickety and you can easily fall back, so they should probably be bolted. They have wine and beer only. The manager sat in a corner and hogged a second stool. When I asked him if he was using it he said it's not available. Ok. So they don't do bar stools at a bar. It makes sense because there is only a few items on their drink menu and four items (three of which are meat) on their food menu. I ordered a spritzer and a pretzel. The pretzel was huge and good for at least three people. It was hard, needed more butter, and not flavorful at all. What do I expect? The drink was not strong and had no taste. One of the only two arcade machines was not functional. They have ping pong and shuffleboard and pool.

This used to be Fat Cat but was renamed to Cellar Dog. It's an underground spacious venue. It's always fun to go with friends if you want to see a jazz band playing and play table games like pool, shuffleboard, or ping pong. They also have board games. Never had an issue getting in. I think when it gets busy, you might have to pay a cover.

What more can you ask for than draft beer, live jazz after 7, ping pong, pool, shuffleboard, foosball, arcade games, and board games? The music was soft enough that you could talk this time. $5 cover for the jazz on a Tuesday.

A unique experience! This establishment is a playground for young and young at heart. Furnished with pool tables, shuffleboard, arcade games, a bar and a jazz club... all in one. For $5 or $10 cover (on weekends) you may find famous musicians performing any night. And they are open pretty late. We ended up going there three out of seven nights in the city.

Great fun night to listen to jazz and play some ping pong and checkers. The staff is friendly. The jazz is quality. The lighting and stickers and walls are fun to read. The ping pong tables were great. A little small of paddles, but they work. $10 to get in on a Friday night. Had some waters.

Really fun Pool Bar with ample tables, Ping Pong, Shuffleboard, and live music. There's a cover charge of $10 when you go in, but it's pretty worth imo if you plan on spending some time at the bar. Drinks are pretty fairly priced; games are rented by the hour and are first come first serve. I've been here when it was really busy and usually don't have to wait too long for a table to open up since there's so many in the bar. Definitely a fun place to go if you're trying to grab a drink and play some games with friends or a date!

Funky hang out spot with a large, open-space filled with activities such as billiards, fuzball, pingpong which along with occasional live music and quick bar service (Albeit with limited selection and not a large portion of food to choose from) come together for a great place to host a work/group event. $8 a drink. 4/5 stars as a night spot.

Cool spot. I found it a bit overwhelming and very hot down in this frat basement. I found it weird they don't have Tequilla? Only vodka/wine/beer. Now onto the gam- You can put your name on a waitlist where they will text you once it's ready to rent ping pong paddles/balls or other games. We waited about 20-30min. Per website; Table Games (Billiards, Ping Pong, and Shuffleboard) are available on a first come first served basis. Wed / Thurs / Sunday - $8 per player per hour (charged by minute) Friday & Saturday - $9 per player per hour (charged by minute) I think we played for about an hour? So I think it was like $30 for ping pong... Would I recommend, maybe, running back to hang in a very hot, frat basement? Not sure yet.

Pretty fun downstairs bar with a huge space full of games. On weekends there is a cover for $10 and you pay by hour for the games. Not too bad for the area and a good way to kill some time.

I came to Cellar dog on a Saturday night for my friends going away gathering. There was a $10 cover charge. The place has a distinct smell, could be because it's like a basement. It is very spacious, there's a bar, several pool tables, ping pong tables, and shuffle boards. They had some pop music playing and then a jazz band came on. At the bar they only have soju, beer, and wine. I had the Cabernet it was alright. The bartender was efficient and even recommended a beer that would be similar to a Stella. For a place that was packed the bartenders were definitely taking care of everyone quickly. I believe there was some food options but I didn't try anything. If you're into jazz & games this is the place for you!

I came here for a double date! Pros: Great jazz, lots of games available, big space, may be able to find booth seating for groups. Cons: Music is very loud so can't hear friends, no drinks other than wine, beer, & canned stuff, the pool tables have a crazy long wait time. This is probably best to go to on a less busy night. Be prepared to spend at least $35 on entry, a game, and a drink plus more each round.

We went to this place after dinner one day. They do check IDs at the door and also there was a $5 cover which I think is worth it. When you go in you go downstairs and then there is a bar on the right and then a very large area with a lot of different games. For example they have: - pool tables - shuffleboard - chess - ping pong - other board games (e.g. connect 4) It is a good vibe. They have music - sometimes a live band, but it is still at a level when you can hear people talk. The vibe is friendly and a bit hipster. Drinks aren't too expensive. Also people are reasonably friendly e.g. if you challenge them to a game of chess etc. Overall I would recommend this place as a fun activity/bar to go to. Good on weeknights too.

Been coming here for years! When it was called the "Fat Cat." There's a cover fee so make sure you have cash! Drinks are affordable. Come with friends! That way you can play games! The fast paced jazz music is also top tier.

Super fun spot! This is an incredible place to spend the afternoon. I went on a Saturday and it wasn't crowded at all and we had our choice of games. Pool, fooseball, ping pong, shuffleboard- all super fun. This is a great spot to hang with a group.

Formally known as Fat Cat, I haven't noticed of any new changes. Great place for some table games, drinks, and Jazz. This place gives off the popular hipster spot vibes. Relly chill and easy going, but can get really packed.

Great place! Plenty of games are available, with hardly any line to wait in to get on a table or board. There is a cover of $10 per person, but it is worth it. We went on a Saturday, and they had live music playing some uptempo jazz in the background. Lots of space, so you can bring parties of 2-10 or more. We ended up playing a few rounds of shuffleboard and pool. An excellent suggestion if you are looking to spend a few hours playing games with a group of friends. I will definitely be coming back!

The spot was cool, door man was interesting vibes, we came with 4 people and didn't realize it was per hour per person and the bill stacked up to be a crazy amount of money

you got options between food and beer then there are the options for pool ping pong, billiards and Table shuffleboard there is enough to keep you here a while and also entertained haha. forgot to mention the live music that plays here from time to time. it deff is different and give the environment a special feeling theres also a small arcade along with board games

Love this place! Live jazz, billiards, shuffleboard, arcade games, and all the classic board games- what else could you want? The line gets pretty long on weekend nights but it moves decently fast. The cover is $10 on weekends and they take cards. The wait for pool tables will be about an hour so I would recommend joining the wait list the second you enter and enjoy some jazz while you wait. Watch out for the overhead pipes if you sit down for jazz, you might get dripped on. The beer options are extensive but pricey at about $10 per beer. Would recommend the Sour Hour.

I wanted to check out the Fat Cat for a very long time because I love playing pool, but don't want to spend a lot on it. I didn't know where Fat Cat was at first glance but realized it's now renamed Cellar Dog. There was a bouncer at the front door who checked our IDs and then it was a $10 entrance fee since it was the weekend and they gave us bracelets which we could use to come back in with until closing. We started out by getting drinks and playing pool. They had beers on tap and hard seltzers! They had different games like pool ($7 per hour), table tennis ($?), shuffleboard ($?), board and card games ($2 for as long as you want). They also had live jazz music when we went. There was a section for every activity. You could play one of the games, or sit and watch the live band, order drinks at the bar, or sit in the booths and seating areas to play games or chat! The wall artwork is very eclectic and unique, not sure I get it completely, but interesting to look at! I really loved Cellar Dog! The staff is really nice and the ambiance is very chill. Everyone is just looking to have a great time. So if you're looking for a nice night of live music, drinks, and games, come here! I recommend coming here and I will definitely be back!

It's basically Fat Cat but less divey and way cleaner. The live jazz band from last Friday night was so good! I like how they have a couple of benches facing the band for you to just chill on and enjoy the performance. The demographics definitely skew towards the younger side but not as heavily as I'd expected. There's a $10 cover, and they take credit card.

I love that cellar dog has live jazz music and games like ping pong, shuffleboard, and pool tables, though I barely listened to the music because my friends and I were having such a fun time playing ping pong. It does have a $5 cover charge pp (at least it was $5 on a Wednesday night), likely for the live music, so be prepared to bring cash. The ping pong was also $8pp/per hour, but we only played for about an hour and a half so it was fine by us.

I may have made the mistake by coming on a Friday night, but it was impossible to play any games. The wait alone was nearly 30 minutes to sign up, then another hour wait to play. Luckily their live band was great and the bartenders were efficient. I'll be back on a calmer night for sure.

There's pool and shuffleboard, etc. The bathroom wasn't horribly disgusting and the staff was nice so that's cool.

Happy to see that Fat Cat is reincarnated! Just revisited this joint on a Thursday around 7pm and it wasn't crowded at all! Tried my hand at pool, ping pong and shuffleboard. While my boyfriend did think the pool tables were not leveled, I did feel all the equipment was well-maintained. Cover charge is $5 on weekdays, probably for the live jazz bands, which is a very nice touch and great ambience. The other activities are $8 per hour per person on weekdays. They also have board games to rent for $2. Bartenders were super friendly and attentive as well. I like how very non-pretentious this place is. Don't be fooled by the "game room". There's like one (pinball?) machine and a few chess tables in there. They also need to get with the SNACKS, man. Even just offering homemade popcorn or something would be cool. That being said, we were allowed to bring a full box of donuts in with us.

Fat Cat, now Cellar Dog. Didn't understand the former name, so I won't begin to understand the name change. With that being stated, I love the improvements to the bathroom. It is much cleaner, and they added a family/single bathroom as well. I dreaded having to use their bathroom before. Other than that, the pool tables, bar, jazz area all seem to be the same as before. Beer on tap. There was a $10 cover to get in, and you pay to play by the hour per person. Live music. I love hanging out here when I'm in the area.

It's fat cat but with a much worse name. Fortunately, everything else that matters is pretty much the same: music at 7pm every night, pool tables, very cheap (but a few bucks higher) cover. The new art on the wall is lame. But again, nothing that matters has changed!

Fun place to chill. They have pool, table tennis, table hockey, and live music. There is a box up charge your phone got free. They only sell beer and wine and there is a five dollar cover charge but worth it.

this was place was pretty fun! me and my friend played pool which i'm not good at but i had a blast! ping pong i was worst at and would not attempt that again lol. i like that they have board games too. but they only have 2 arcade games. not many. unless they are adding more? the jazz band wasn't bad but it does make it loud in there to talk to your friends. it seems a more social bar rather than getting hit on which is good. the only thing i didn't like was the 10 dollar cover charge. i feel like you are paying for games and the money adds up especially in todays times. i would come back with my friends though. very cool dive bar!

Awful, the bouncer/doorman rejected my friend because "she didn't look like her ID" mind you she was wearing really curly hair and in her ID it was straight. Made her feel really uncomfortable saying it wasn't her (btw we're in our mid 20s) like please don't be assholes. Also they were charging 10 per person just to go in... and then that bullshit ... who you think you are?

This place has the potential to be an awesome hang out spot. Good amount of pool tables and games you can rent out to play. However, it's very overcrowded, hard to find a stool to sit on and the music is so loud you can barely hear anything anyone says
