Protest Planned Against Southeast Michigan Restaurant Group Over Lawsuit Filed Against Former Employees | Eater Detroit

"Located in Howell on the site of a former steakhouse, this Italian restaurant became a focal point of a COVID-era labor dispute after a lead bartender was removed from scheduling and later terminated following social-media posts criticizing management’s recall procedures. Former and former–adjacent employees publicly alleged intimidating messages demanding returns to work, claims that staff were required to supply their own PPE, and that refusals to accept recall could jeopardize unemployment benefits; management counters that messages were intended to document recalls for Paycheck Protection Program rules, that managers held multiple meetings to explain the nuances, and that they offered flexibility about later returns. The online backlash reportedly led to customer and staff distress and declining takeout business; after attempts to have posts removed failed, company lawyers sent cease-and-desist correspondence and the owner filed a defamation suit against four ex-employees seeking $25,000 in damages while former staff have raised a legal-defense fund." - Brenna Houck

Cello Italian Restaurant in Eyes Royal Oak Expansion | Eater Detroit

"A Howell-based Italian restaurant is running a pop-up in a downtown upstairs space from September 20 through December 31 as a market test; the owner says the temporary run will determine whether to establish a permanent Main Street location in Royal Oak as part of a recent local expansion." - Brenna Houck

I wish I'd taken photos, but next time. It's quite a long drive for us, so we haven't been here in a long time. My wife and I came for a special event and re-remembered how great this place is. Our server (Emily) was friendly, attentive, prompt and very flexible to the way we dragged things out by getting small plate after small plate. The food itself was just perfect. We had about 4 different dishes and all were about a good as possible. The atmosphere was reminiscent of smallish Italian restaurants we've eaten at in both Chicago's and Boston's "Little Italy" neighborhoods. What a gem for Howell. If you enjoy Italian food, go here. 6 stars, not 5.

Google
This meal was phenomenal, and I don't say that lightly. I honeymooned in Italy this Spring, and we chose that destination mostly because we love Italian food so much. When out with friends today, we stopped into Cello on a whim. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting much--just some comforting, simple pasta. An easy meal. But what we got was so much more! Cozy, homey ambiance, amazingly friendly staff whose passion for the food really shows, wonderful cocktails, and an absolutely delicious meal that rivaled most of the dishes I ate in Italy. All for an unbeatable price. And the namesake limoncello was to die for! I don't live in Howell, and never find myself out that way, but I'll have to make an excuse to go out there now so I can go back to Cello, which joined my list of favorite restaurants tonight. Shout out to Brook for being an amazing server/bartender/food-recommender!

Pissed off to say the least! My husband and I made reservations a week ago. Looking forward to eating out together we were on time for our reservation. Upon going to the front hostess area they said they couldn’t find it. Then we pointed it out on the tablet. They then said sorry our booth we requested was taken and tried to seat us in a very uncomfortable table in the front with a non movable table and very upright back, not what we asked for. When we said what about our booth they stated sorry not available and that they should have done better. You think???! This reservation was made a week ahead of time and we were very much on time. The young guy at the front was clueless and extremely slow moving. Completely unacceptable! We walked out never to return. What a disappointment. When we went to Diamonds to get a table and told them what happened, the guy laughed and said he’s not surprised. Really… then why be interconnected with this other restaurant. Disappointed and upset.. waste of time. Don’t spend your time or money on this establishment!

Wow!!!!! What an incredible dining experience!! Everything about this dinner was amazing. Our server made excellent recommendations and stated she had worked at the restaurant since she was 16 years old because she enjoys the food so much The pastas are all handmade daily and you can walk by in the back and see them making them. Tonight if they were making the tortellinis by hand and you could see the freshness! The arugula salad was dressed perfectly with the perfect amount of goat cheese. If you're a party of two, you may not want to get the roasted garlic as it is absolutely delicious but a very large portion when there are so many other excellent choices. The menu is well done considering they offer the options of smaller and larger portions. I recommend one appetizer to split as well as one small pastas. Plus have one of the protein dishes. We cannot wait to go back again!!

Google
If I could give this restaurant six stars then I happily would! Hands down this is the best Italian restaurant I've eaten at in my life. It's authentic, everything is made in-house. Emily was an amazing waitress! She was very friendly and went above and beyond to make my family's dinner amazing. Their fettuccine alfredo is absolutely incredible.

Google
It's a small place, quite narrow. Over an hour wait for a table, inside or outside too. Not happening, I am hungry now. I could maybe wait a half hour but over an hour is too much to ask. Maybe we will try another time when I don't feel like like gnawing off my arm.

Google
We had a great dinner, wait staff was good but a little inattentive, however my friend and I hadn’t been out in quite sometime so were catching up. Dinner came, we finished and cashed out but we were finishing our drinks when we were asked to leave. We had only been there for approximately 1.5 hours. Nothing was posted about time limits or verbally given to us upon our arrival. We were not going to be hogging the table all night but a two hour window is typical and we were under it. You lost my future business.

Google
One of my favorite restaurants in Howell and top formal dining experiences. Big shout out to Emily for her wonderful hospitality!!! From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed and at home. Everything on the menu sounded incredible, we stuck with pasta dishes to share. Every dish was perfect from start to finish! The wild mushroom gnocchi was delicious, and my favorite. Their red sauce is perfect, I caught myself eating it by the spoon full, well after I finished my dish.

Yelp
I am the last person to every write a review, but this place is that amazing that I felt I needed to. This place is small with a warm ambience. By far one of the best places to eat in Howell. My fiance and i have tried many Italian places, but this one is by far the best. Food is amazing, drinks and cocktails are always 10/10 and we have never had an issue with service. I recommend this place to everyone local!! You can tell how much love is put into the drinks and food here and it makes the experience 10 times better. I have yet to try anything on the menu that i thought was "mid" - every single thing from the cocktail to the chefs special to just the pesto on the mozzarella, everything was 10/10.

Yelp
The drinks were creative! I did not try the Limoncello. The ambiance was terrific. An old place that had some sweet charm. The service was great. The food ... hmm. I was not amazed. I had the scallops and I did not care for the Saffron Risotto with the gallon of white truffle oil. My dining companions had much better entrees. The Cello Salad was wonderful. The portions were a bit awkward. You really have to eat family style to make them work. But try the carrot cake!

Yelp
This is a small town restaurant masquerading as fine dining. It may be according to Howell standards, but nowhere else. Who has ever gone to a high-class food establishment and eaten off the menu that serves as a placemat too? Our water carafe was a milk bottle. We were promptly seated without reservations. The hostess said out waitress would be with us shortly. Some time later she showed up and was friendly and polite. We told her it was out first time to visit. She explained all the pasta was made "in house" and pointed to the window where the pasta was made. The pasta maker was not working that night. She explained that they served food "family style" and that the larger portions would serve two people and we would get two plates. After some time, she returned and took our order for the large portions of Carbonara and caesar salad. We waited a considerable length of time until the hostess delivered our salads on two small plates. I said, "Is this the large salad"? She explained that it was. They had just placed it on two plates. Very small portions. No croutons, just sprinkled with bread crumbs. The dressing was good. After waiting another considerable length of time, the hostess brought a platter of carbonara. This, again, was ordered as the larger portion for two people. It was very small and looked like a one-person portion. She said, "Oh, I need to get you some plates". She left and we began another wait for the plates. Meanwhile we stirred in the two egg yolks sitting on top of the pasta. There were 6 tiny cubes of pancetta and a few peas mixed in with the pasta. The waitress arrived with two dinner plates. She offered parmesan cheese and left to get some. It never came. I got up and went to the serving station and explained that we needed cheese. Many apologies ensued. My dining companion began eating her portion without cheese. I waited, and waited. Finally, the cheese arrived, but my pasta dish was cold! The cheese was in a gem-sized plastic cup. The waitress left after I complained and the hostess showed up. She apologized and offered to re-prepare my dish or provide something else. I said I wasn't willing to wait another exhausting length of time to get a replacement dinner. I asked her to microwave my plate. She said the health code did not allow her to reheat the dish. She offered dessert. I explained I did not want dessert, I came for dinner. She said she would not charge us for the dinner and that we could leave whenever we were ready. With a sarcastic tone, she said, "Have a nice evening". I stopped at the greeting podium on out way out to be sure we had heard her right and that we would not have to pay. The hostess came up and said, "Get out of my restaurant". I attempted to explain all that had happened. She didn't want to hear it. Again, she said, "Get out of my restaurant". I replied, "FUCK YOU". It appeared to me that our server must have been inexperienced. Why else does a hostess get involved in delivering food. $34 for a small platter of pasta? $10 for garlic bread that is normally served with a meal at any other Italian restaurant? Overpriced. Update your menu prices on your website to reflect current prices.

Yelp
Tried to set up a family dinner in Cello's private dining area for 14. Phoned and was told we had to go online. Online form was glitchy, but we were told we would be contacted "shortly." Three days passed. We phoned and asked when we would hear back ... "two to five days." Never had a callback at all. Had a delicious dinner elsewhere (Cleary's Pub). We heard the same story from good friends trying to arrange a rehearsal dinner for a large group. Filled out the form; no callback.

Yelp
Rating 4 out of 5. The good- food was amazing. Seriously so good The bad- service. Waited forever for someone to even take our drinks. Then watched the staff argue for 15 minutes over who was serving each table. Honestly it was ridiculous. They were so loud about it and made a scene.

Yelp
Read in a social media site that this place has good tiramisu. The misses loves tiramisu so a road trip was in order. Went on a Saturday night and had reservations- was a couple empty spots but with it being a small place I would probably recommend. Here is what we liked: * The tiramisu- ordered it as our appetizer as we wanted to make sure we had room. As an appetizer it was delicious, seriously as a dessert it is one of the best I've had. Really good. * Our waiter Donavan was a solid good guy. Attentive, sense of humor and made the visit fun. * the Limoncello was absolutely like a lemon meringue pie in a shot glass. Have had many store bought versions that were eh, this is house made an a delight to the taste buds. * We shared a couple small plates that were plenty for serving size. * Chicken Parmesan had a good size chicken patty with a light coating and crisp however let's talk about the angel hair pasta and sauce that comes with it. We literally had to paper, rock, scissors to determine who got to lick the plate clean. * Mushroom Gnocchi small plate was perfect to sample and it had a good amount of mushroom pieces and it looked like it was pan fried. Super good. * Carrot cake also one of our favorites. This however is served warm and they add icing as you order. Game changer Here's what we thought could be better: * Just a little chilly when we arrived. Misses was reluctant to take her jacket off. Thermostat on the wall said 64. By the end of dinner it was fine. Overall this place is now our favorite Italian restaurant and we want to make the hour drive back to try most of the dishes. Good service and great food makes for a definite repeat visit.

Yelp
our favorite date night spot! super affordable for the quality of food, love the drinks! the homemade limoncello is always to die for.

Yelp
Everything was great! We had an excellent server named Ella who took good care of us. Food was delicious.

Yelp
Small Italian restaurant right downtown. Was Mother's Day and didn't have a reservation but they had room at the bar. Small issue with daughter's food but was rectified and we LOVED the food! Service was excellent and we'd go back next time we are in the area.

Sue V.

Yelp
This is my first 5 star review. The service was quick and efficient. She was attentive and removed empty plates in a timely fashion. We did not have to search to get a drink refill. We started with the Arancini and it was spectacular! I had the shrimp and scallop arrabbiata! Scallop cooked perfectly and a nice hint of heat in the sauce. We also shared the Carbonara and Eggplant Parmesan; both were very good! I will definitely return again!

Lala L.

Yelp
We just found our favorite server. Emily is a treasure! Service like that is why we go to Cello.
google avatar

Kara S.

Yelp
All of their pastas are made in house, and you definitely can tell. I love how they have the small or large options, so you can order a few different entrees to try since I couldn't choose. It's also perfect for a group of friends! The service was excellent, our waitress was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions since it was our first time there. It definitely won't be our last though!

Riley S.

Yelp
Amazing service and a comfortable dining environment. The food was delicious, we had a few different plates to share and loved all of them.

Mary M.

Yelp
They could do better, but choose not to. Ordered tenderloin medallions for my husband and I to the tune of 95.00. Got them home and they were RAW. I had ordered MR, I immediately called the manager, who defended their process and sent me a 25.00 gift certificate. Taking responsibility for a mistake and correcting it the right way would have been a start. Another lost customer!

Yelp
We've been a few times and food has declined a but each time. Fist, service is always pretty good. That's never an issue. This time the food was mediocre. The pastas were over cooked. It was evident mine had been done first as the sauce had started to congeal slightly. The chicken parm and crispy chicken on our second dish was way overdone. Chicken was slightly dried out and nearly burned on the outside. Espresso machine was broken. Will probably give one more shot, hoping it was just a bad night. Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3 (it was 65° outside and very very cold inside) Food: 2.5-3

Yelp
This was my second time here and both times I've been extremely satisfied. They do a great job following COVID-19 guidelines. All staff were wearing masks and gloves. Social distancing both inside and out was taking place. I felt really comfortable. We started off with drinks. I had a Bambino Sorbetto. It was limoncello, Prosecco, and raspberry sorbet. The sorbet was solid and slowly melted. Super yum! My husband had the Sorrento Margarita. He liked it a lot, I didn't care for it because it had a bitterness similar to grapefruit. My guess is that it was the Campari in it because nothing else would have made that flavor. And I've never had Campari before. Once we ordered, they brought us some bread and a little risotto ball sample. Both are very good. For dinner I had the egg plant Parmesan. It was so good that I forgot a pic. I had the small portion which is two slices of egg plant that were about 3/4 inch thick, covered with cheese, and drizzled with olive oil and pesto. It is paired with angel hair pasta with red sauce. The red sauce is so good. I'm not a huge pasta fan, I can take it or leave it, but theirs is so good. You can see the tomatoes and onion in it. They have the perfect amount of seasoning and it's not too salty. My dish was cooked to perfection. Portion size was plenty for me. I almost forgot, we split a side of brussel sprouts. I love them! They are fried so have that crisp to them. They are flavored with balsamic glaze giving them a little sweetness, but not over powering. Loooove! To end this, our waiter was great. Naturally, I forgot his name. Very friendly and efficient. Checked on us just enough. Made good recommendations. Very pleasant young man!

Yelp
Cellos is A Fabulously Delicious Place to Dine; with Family, Friends or even self; if wanting a delicious meal. Reservations are recommended. But sometimes you get lucky depending on the time to just walk in and ask if they have a table. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The Location is wonderful in the Summer months, to Sit outside and Watch the Howell Happenings; various festivals, and you hear the concerts across the street in the park that's each Friday during the summer months. The food is amazing, everything is fresh to order and in abundance. You pretty much always have something to take home unless you just can't help yourself in have to lick the played at the end. Lol.
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Howell, typically save this pricey experience for special occasions. Drinks are always fantastic, food is spectacular, the service is quick, And the small restaurant makes you feel like it's a secret! The gnocchi is what brings us back every time! Mmmmmmmmm
google avatar

Pamela H.

Yelp
Food was great Service was a 10 sitting was nice and will love to go back and try something more

Bridgett D.

Yelp
Amazing, my husband and I love this place and we've been finding ourselves here a lot. Again, we got the roasted garlic starter, delicious. My husband got the chicken limoncello and loved it. I ordered the shrimp and scallop arrabiata , it was amazing. I think overall we love that the pasta is fresh and you can tell it us, the spaghetti sauce is fresh and everything we've ever had from here comes out piping hot.
google avatar

Timothy S.

Yelp
This little spot took me back to the restaurants in Florence or Brescia! The sausage appetizer is amazing and would be a dish by itself if served over a pasta (made fresh in house by the way) the gnocchi w mushroom crazy good! This is a small place make a reservation! One criticism; no PANACOTA! Italian restaurants should never have crème brûlée (a French dessert) on the menu Panacota is the Italian version
google avatar

Alix S.

Yelp
Really great food. I moved to Michigan 7 months ago and this food is next level. Definitely a top three favorite Italian places! In addition to the food, the service was outstanding!

Jeannie E.

Yelp
Very enjoyable anniversary dinner. We have come here to celebrate several special occasions. It's our favorite restaurant when we are in the the area. The shrimp scampi, arugula salad and eggplant parmesan were so delicious. Brooke provided excellent service. Just wish we didn't live so far away. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
google avatar

Nick B.

Yelp
I've only been here once but the past I got was excellent and the service left nothing to be desired, great all around. The atmosphere is okay, but the food is the real star.

Kathleen K.

Yelp
When you order a Caesar Salad, and the menu says romaine lettuce, but you get only the white cruddy bits-like iceberg?!!! Give me the dark tasty leafy parts please! I'm shocked this went out the door for of Cello's. Totally bummed!

Christina S.

Yelp
This is hands down the BEST meal I have had in a VERY long time. We came back a second day in a row, since we were visiting from out of town to show our other son who wasn't with us the first visit. It was THAT good. You will NOT regret eating here! Also, Sherry C was our server both times, and she was AMAZING!
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Shoot! I forgot to take a picture but... we had the arancini for an appetizer, fettuccine Alfredo and Lemon Spaghetti. Arancini was good, light and cheesy, though I have had it with a piece of sausage inside and this version didn't have it. The fettuccine was very good, not overly weighed down in cream. The lemon spaghetti was very good. They use mascarpone cheese and capers for the salt and it was tasty- though I couldn't finish. We ordered the large sizes but truthfully they were smaller than I expected for "large" but definitely the right size for a dinner plate. The star? The star of the show was the Salted Caramel Limoncello! Holy hell get this. It's so so good. It's a small pour but worth every cent.

Mel O.

Yelp
Unless you have a big party & know the owners or staff than I wouldn't suggest going. It was very hot & the parties that were getting the VIP treatment sitting w fans directed at their tables were very well taken care of. We waited awhile & ended up in the middle of this small place being bumped into constantly because it was so cramped & tight between tables The food was just ok Nothing great about this place
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Good food, and I love the small plates concept. Three small plates ( and an appetizer) were plenty for two people. We had the arancini (rice balls) which were pretty good, but not amazing. The stand out is their marinara sauce that they come with. Yum! We also had the chicken limoncello, which was well balanced and delish, the carbonara, and the lemon spaghetti. The carbonara is very good if you can get around the fact that it is served with an egg yolk in the middle. It's authentic but not for everyone. The lemon spaghetti was good but very tart. It would have benefited from the shrimp they suggested, but my husband is allergic, so obviously we didn't do that. For dessert we had the carrot cake, chocolate ravioli, and a cappuccino. My husband loved the cake. I enjoyed the ravioli, but the pasta shell was a little too tough and bland. They oozed chocolate when you punctured them, which was lovely. Very rich, so the coulis is a welcome side. The cappuccino was delicious. The service and staff are awesome! The manager saw our table wobbling and fixed it without us asking. Super polite. Shout out to Blake for being great!

Yelp
This was are first visit thinking that we could just walk-in and get a table booked until 8:30 it was 4:45 We did get two seats at the bar! Wow the staff is super friendly and amazing such a great team effort Bar tenders was was so fun and funny guy he made the visit memorable Now t let's talk food we did the roasted garlic appetizer amazing! The cello salad was properly chill and so refreshing it cleansed our pallet The chicken parm with Angel hair was so fresh and piping HOT! You can tell they take lots of pride in the freshly prepared food! The carrot cake was the best I have ever had this restaurant is amazing they are superior in quality and service They get 10 gold stars Thanks for the best meal I had in 2021

Samantha D.

Yelp
Came here with a friend of mine tonight on a whim. The food was great! We shared the meatballs as an appetizer and a tomato salad. The meatballs were very good, especially the red sauce. I probably wouldn't order the tomato salad again as it lacked flavor. I ordered a tortellini with vodka sauce and she had a gnocchi with mushrooms, both of which were exceptional. I ordered the chicken Parmesan as carry out for my husband, and that was also fantastic. The atmosphere was a little dated, the tables were close together given the pandemic, and lacked much outdoor seating. The service was prompt and helpful. Just things to keep in mind if you go. Overall, the food blew me away so I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Sadly, I've never had more horrible food in my entire life. I will not be returning unfortunately

Yelp
Cello is great. We went there to celebrate and it was a good time and great food. I recommend.

Yelp
Crazy that if you walk in they tell you the wait is 1 1/2 -2 hours, with 3/4s of the restaurant empty. Then you pull up their reservation system and seating is available in 45 minutes. 2nd time this has happened.

Jeweliyn H.

Yelp
This was my first time going out since I moved to Howell, Michigan from California. Quick shout out to our amazing server, Sherry! She was so sweet and took care of me and my stepmom tonight when I took her out for her birthday dinner! Sherry gets Five Stars from me, because even though it was busy, she had the best customer service and I hope she has an amazing night! Patrick was also very friendly and was great with taking care of customers and making them feel welcome (I believe he was the owner or manager, he was dressed in a suit). Both staff members made sure to ask how all the food was and how everything was going several times. The food was amazing and flavorful. I definitely will be coming back! Thank you all for being so kind and caring even though it was very busy! Wish I had more pictures of the food but I ate it too fast!

Sam And Prisi J.

Yelp
When we first got there the atmosphere was very relaxed. The vibes were on point. We got the crispy fresh mozzarella, it was exterior was nice and crispy and nearly gave me an orgasm (9.2/10). For the entrees I had the spaghetti and meatballs, the sauce used for the spaghetti was flavorful and the meatballs were good (8.8/10)

Scott C.

Yelp
The meatballs were amazing. Their new chief was friendly and made some amazing dinners for our table. Highly suggest the chicken parmesan.

Roderick M.

Yelp
This was our first time here since we moved to Howell. The hostess who seated us was friendly and our server Shannon was excellent. Although they did not have Sangria on the menu she had the bartender make us one. It was excellent. My wife ordered the shrimp scampi and I had the chicken parm and both were excellent. I always expect the food and service to be good but to have the server, Shannon, have the bartender make us a drink that's not on the menu is going beyond just service . . . its outstanding service which we appreciated. I always make a reservation and have found it pays to make a reservation at restaurants like Cellos to insure a great meal with great service. We will be back!

Cheryl R.

Yelp
Excellent meals and service. I like the small plates. I had the salmon, others had cheese ravioli, ziti, and Alfredo. All were delicious!

Lauren S.

Yelp
My husband and I came here with a gift certificate a friend sent us. Service and ambiance were excellent! Unfortunately, we were not very impressed by the quality and amount of the food for the price. For the price of some of the dishes, I'd either expect better quality or more volume. Sad to say that we found the dishes did not have either. The roasted garlic antipasti was bland. We had seen reviews about the lemon spaghetti so we ordered that, which was ok, but nothing to write home about, along with the limoncello chicken, which had an underwhelming flavor. I thought about adding shrimp, but when I reread that option, the menu says $2 per shrimp. Overall, we really wanted to like this restaurant but just found it so underwhelming.

Lynn M.

Yelp
The ambiance ruined what was supposed to be a celebratory dinner because it was SO HOT!!! Of all of the restaurants in Brighton and Howell we chose Cello to celebrate our s.i.l.'s bday and their recent announcement that they are having their first baby!! They came all the way from Royal Oak because we were excited to have our Italian s.i.l. try your food. While the food and Blake's service were great multiple comments were made about how HOT is was. To see beads of sweat on your guest's foreheads was so disappointing!! We sat at the 4 top near the windows and unfortunately it was not until we were leaving that the window near the deuce was opened. The meal felt nothing like a celebration. Please get your air conditioning fixed!!!

Debbie K.

Yelp
This place is amazing. They just hired a new executive chef. It was good before. The homemade pasta and meatballs are out of this world. Great new hire. Highly recommend

Yelp
Ok, now I get it. I didn't want to believe the reviews but they are fair. Some people love it or hate it. Here's my take from our visit Sunday night. Cello is the red-headed step child in the Adam Merkel family of restaurants. They try and try but there is just something a little off. The history, the chef stories of grandparents from Sicily, the family style concept... all great, but didn't hit home for us. Don't go by pictures on Yelp - the dishes I see posted are no longer on the menu. The waitress let us know that it's family style and dishes would come out as they are ready, so to be served hot but may not all be out at the same time. Even though she gave us a heads up, it was still annoying. We munched on Wild Mushroom Ricotta Gnocchi, while waiting for the Lemoncello Chicken, but didn't want to eat too much as we'd not be hungry for the chicken when it came. I get the family style, but not a fan of the timing. Waitress was nice but everything was "so really really good". She raved about our choices and said everyone likes what we picked. When she checked on us later and we said the gnocchi was okay, she whizzed past and said "aren't they really really good!" Maybe she's not listening to her customers answer her question. There was nothing to ask to be corrected, it really was just okay. The Gnocchi was beautiful. The execution was flawless. Pan fried dumplings that looked to have a bit of crisp, but that's where it ended. There was no crisp. The texture was gritty like tasting the flour in the dumplings. If we come again, we'll stick to the potato and maybe ask for the same sauce. There is potato option, but with tomato vodka sauce. The gnocchi came out first. The chicken about 5-7 minutes later. The Lemoncello chicken was perfectly executed. Two large crispy boneless chicken cutlets, perfectly cooked, topped with peppery arugula, a shaving of cheese on each as accent, and pickled onions, on a very light bed of lemon sauce. Doesn't that sound excellent!? Something was missing. Some kind of sauce or more sauce or cheese - something. All we could taste was arugula, onion and the crunchy texture and hint of lemon sauce. We split one cutlet and took the second home. One large plate could feed four people with regular appetites. The best part of the meal was the garlic bread ordered as an appetizer. Two large pieces of super hot and toasty garlic bread. It was really good and I recommend not passing that up. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a soup option. A brothy minestrone at least. Don't look for old standards, like lasagna or spaghetti - it's not on the menu. Not that we would miss it, just a heads up. We finished the meal with the lemoncello creme brule. Reading the description, again, had to try it. Eh - it was thinner than instant pudding, lemony and just fell flat. Something was missing - vanilla, thicker consistency? Cello is A-Ok. Good place to take the family or try something different, but best to know what to expect so as not to be disappointed with how things work. Great list of wine pairings on the back. Make a reservation, it's a small dining room.

Yelp
Another fantastic meal! We tried the sausage and peppers for an appetizer, it was delicious. Special ordered their gnocchi and vodka sauce, the sauce is the perfect blend of rich with a little kick of spice. My favorite cocktail the Sistine spritzer and finished up with the best cappuccino(Illy). Thanks for a great night out, we don't venture out to many restaurants these days but with all the precautions you put in place we feel very comfortable and the food is so delicious it's totally worth it!

Yelp
Fantastic experience. I think our server's name was Andrew. Andrew was fantastic. Everything was delicious. I had the lemon spaghetti with shrimp. The only thing we didn't quite care for was the carbonara. Too peppery. The mushroom gnocchi was to die for as well. So delicious and fresh. This plate has legit Italian food. I had the spritzer cocktail and loved it. Thanks for a great experience!

Yelp
This place is great. I love when you can have multiple dishes easily without having to over order and this place does a fantastic job of letting you do tapas with the table or have a traditional individual meal. You can order large or small plate options for all of their dinner and pasta options. We decided to try a little of everything and we had some favorite but everything was great. The wine selection is Italian wines, we choose a bottle of a blend and it was perfect with our meal. I also had a mixed cocktail and it was well made, no frills, but good. The food was all great and tasted fresh and most importantly, homemade. It was a treat. I've listed our favorites below. Gnocchi-omg, it was so good. The shape is different than I'm used to. I thought it was penna at first but the texture was spot on. The sauce sealed the deal. Lemon spaghetti- if you love lemon, capers and pasta, this is your dish. This was my personal favorite but I love lemon and capers so I'm a bit biased. Scallops-perfectly cooked, the risotto was spot on as well. Highlight was the char on the scallop, something hard to accomplish so I appreciate it. Short ribs - wow, perfectly cooked. Also wasn't dry which often happens when it's cooked in advance. The star of the dish is the marscapone polenta. Omg, we wanted to lick the plate. Chicken pram - I did not try this, full disclosure, my 11 year old ate all of it before any of us could try it. She highly recommends. Carbonara- this was beautiful and it was obviously well prepared. Only issue I had was the pepper, there was so much of it. My husband and son LOVE pepper so this was one of their favs. Me, not so much, it was intense. If you love pepper, I highly recommend but if you are sensitive to it, I would avoid. Service was great and the atmosphere is nice a cozy, just as an Italian spot should be. It feels like your grandmother's kitchen and tastes like it too.

Yelp
Let me start out by saying, I LOVE tapas and am very familiar with small plate dining. I love what this place is about - quality food, shared plates, and boozy limoncello! However, everything just didn't go as well as it could have for our group. We were super pumped when we first sat down and saw the menu - so many awesome options! It was recommended for our group of six to do four appetizers, three pasta dishes, and three entrees to share. We took that recommendation and ordered our appetizers. We wanted to start with the risotto balls, garlic bread, sausage & peppers, and meatballs. After about 10 minutes of waiting for apps, the waiter came over to take the rest of our order. We went on to order some pasta dishes as well as some entrees. The stand outs were the tortellini and the salmon! However, even after enjoying said entrees, we still had not received our appetizers. Now, I do understand that tapas come out in the order they are ready, but still...didn't seem quite right! The waiter did feel awful, apologized profusely and the food was delicious, even if it did come out in a crazy order. Not everyone in our group left completely full, as many have noted, so I might recommend one more pasta or entree if you are eating with a hungry group! Overall - I would give them another shot. Was it perfect? No. But they are just starting out. I look forward to seeing this place develop and am excited to see some new dining options available in Howell!
