The Best Bakeries in New Orleans For Pastries, Desserts, and Bread | Eater New Orleans

"Lakeview rejoiced at the arrival of this baguette and croissant haven in 2020, the second act for La Boulangerie founder Dominique Rizzo. Rizzo, who grew up in France, has built a smaller, neighborhood-centric spot in Celtica — a more succinct menu of baked goods and a family-friendly atmosphere. In addition to the aforementioned baguettes and croissants, try Celtica’s galette de rois during Carnival season and Rizzo’s specialty French pastries, danishes, tarts, and savory quiches." - Eater Staff

Google
For a French Bakery. Why are they serving everything in paper plates and paper cups. They are probably only one that does that in town. That's not very French like. Pastries are decent, nothing stand out about it. My almond croissant is flat, as you can see in the picture, it taste good, but it is not French. Maybe I came in into a bad day, but nothing here deserve 5 star ratings.

Atmosphere: Nice new building with lots of natural light but the layout makes it awkward for the few seated tables because the long line goes between them with little space. Bathrooms were clean and modern. Not sure why they tacked on tacky plastic flowers on the molding? Food: 11:30 AM on a Sunday morning and you’re out of so many ingredients that you can’t make 2 of the only 4 sandwiches you offer? Sandwich was good, and toasted well. Not worth $16. 4/5. Pastries: ordered one apricot pastry and one apple cinnamon. Apricot one was good, 4/5, and apple one was great, 4/5. Coffee: $5 base iced latte. They up-charge you ridiculously for everything without giving you a heads up. Asked for caramel sauce or syrup and I said both, and they added $2 on, without giving a heads up that they’re $1 extra each. Not great coffee either. Basic automated machine taste, and they bring nothing to your table, so if you sit outside, you have to run back in every 10 min to check to see if it’s ready. 2/5 Service: superrrr unfriendly staff, seem annoyed throughout the entire order, not a smile in sight. Don’t look for southern hospitality here 😂The male serving pastries and taking sandwich orders was super impatient with the guests in front of us as well, who asked very simple questions so they could make a decision. Paper plates and plastic cups, so you’re forced to bus your own table too. 1/5 Value overall: 2/5 overpriced coffee and sandwiches for the area, taste, and service. Would not return, especially after the bad taste in my mouth from the rude employee attitude. $45 for one sandwich, two coffee, and two pastries. Not worth it.

Went around 9am Sunday morning. I got a peach danish and a croissant. Both were delicious. Laminated very well. The danish wasn't sweet, which I appreciate, just the natural flavor. I'd go back!

Google
Wooooowwww!!! The pastries here are so so good! Truly delicious. We tried four different things and all of them were amazing. We loved how they weren’t just so so sweet and disgusting like most American bakeries are these days. Everyone was so friendly it’s decorated super cute, there’s a great patio where we sat outside, they have nice restrooms and just an overall fantastic vibe. We’re so glad we got off the beaten path and found this place!

Baked goods, pastries and sandwiches were delicious! The wait staff need a lesson in smiling; better customer service would be appreciated.

Google
Great traditional french bakery! I do wish the lemon tart had more tart, the filling was on the sweet side. But the plain croissant and the ham&cheese especially were excellent! I've never had a ham and cheese seemingly twice baked with more cheese (ricotta?) on top! It was indulgent and delicious.

Google
This place it is ok, I had some croissants and quiche, food was good, coffee was good too

Google
Probably, the high rating it has, are due to it being the only game the kind in this area. While the service is excellent, the pastries and the coffee are very far from perfect. The coffee is made with a push button machine and tastes so. But it is strong and you can order 4 shots cap if you need a real Blast. The croissant is heavy and does not taste fresh. The raspberry tart is ok. I might have given it 4 - but it already has too high raking :)

Yelp
Awesome newer French bakery in New Orleans, and a nice community atmosphere with decent number of families here. Loved the chocolate almond croissant (younger one had brilliant idea to get this one so we didn't have to get separate almond and chocolate croissants). Have to pace ourselves with calorie intake in New Orleans :) We also tried the peach danish, chocolate eclair, and ham & cheese croissant with generous amount of bechamel on top. Brought them home and ama cut everything into smaller pieces so everyone could get a good taste. Will have to come here again to try some of their other items, which all look great and remind me of our trip to Paris last year where we enjoyed French pastries every day. Great location in Lakeview which is more convenient for us to get to, versus driving into Uptown or near the river.

Yelp
The best bakery in the gulf south. That is not an exaggeration. Dominic is not only Parisian culinary trained, his staff's execution is beautifully consistent. He does not go cheap on the ingredients, takes pride in presentation, and delivers a memorable experience in every bite. I love the almond croissant, the chocolate croissant, the apricot tart, the ham and cheese pastry, the eclair, the fruit tart with edible orchid flowers... it is absolutely dreamy in the lakeview New Orleans establishment. I also thoroughly enjoy the iced coffee - delicious. Outdoor seating is a favorite for my family. Lunchtime baguette-based sandwiches to order are exceptional. The staff are friendly and attentive - you'd want to hang out with them.

Yelp
It was a cute spot, but the pastries and coffee were a little meh. Maybe I ordered the wrong pastry. It was very hot inside, and I wasn't comfortable during the summer.

Ann M.

Yelp
The coffee is French truck. Yeah for that. I've been here several times. 85% of the time it was great. Tasted Like Paris. However once or twice the pastry tasted Stale Like it's been out too long and dried up. Parking could be better.

Yelp
My friend that lives in NOLA has been raving about Celtica since he moved there and kept telling me we had to go next time I visited. Well, he finally took me and I was blown away. I got a Cafe Au Lait and an almond croissant. Both were fantastic. The croissant was perfectly balanced between soft on the inside but the layers still had a bit of crispness and the almond paste wasn't overly sweet. I will definitely be asking to come back here next time I am in town.

Yelp
What a great little bakery and coffee shop! A small slshop but it's whimsical and clean. A small selection that is done very well. The prices I found to be reasonable too. Got the brioche buns and the olive bread. Both were delicious The pastries looked tempting. I will be ba

Yelp
Absolutely love this French bakery. Their pastries are beautifully made and delightful. I've been here twice and never had anything bad. Service is great. They use French Truck coffee beans for their espressos, which I love! I wish I lived closer to this place but also probably good for my wallet that I don't lol. Great ambiance. I love that they have an outdoor seating area bc it can't get a little pack on the weekends.

Yelp
I liked the location and the staff were all very freindly and accomodating. I kinda wish there was a food menu or something just to order the food. There were signs everywhere but no menu. It seemed a little confusing for me, maybe it was just me, I thought there was a build your own breakfast sandwich - like with eggs and sausage? I saw the build your own lunch sandwich menu posted on the wall but it was morning time. I did enjoy the croissant I got that was premade and in the window. The staff kindly heated it up for me. It was buttery and flaky, just like I like it. And the coffee was good too. The bathrooms were clean as was the dining area. It was a busy morning, so I did not want to ask too many questions about other items, which I am guessing is just what they have on display and it changed, but with so many people in line. I think if I return, I will go when it is less busy.

Yelp
In a city filled with delicious French bakeries, this is one of the best. Love this neighborhood gem. Owned by the chef who created La Boulangerie, this Lakeview bakery is so much better. Sweet? Savory? Bread? Or a latte? So many delicious choices. Come early for the freshest choices. Croissant Aux Amandes et Chocolat. The chocolate almond croissants are so decadently delicious. Such a perfect balance of creamy almond filling and chocolate. The croissants are so light and flaky. The lemon tarts have the perfect amount of sweet and tart. The Black Forest dome will satisfy every chocoholics sweet tooth. For breakfast, grab a quiche Florentine. Flaky pastry crust filled with spinach and Swiss cheese. So good when they are fresh out of the oven. Or build your own sandwich with your choice of meats, cheeses and vegetables on your choice of bread for lunch. Add a bowl of steamy hot soup for a great meal. If you love breads, this is the best place to grab a loaf or two or three. Baguettes. Croissants. Ciabatta. Olive Fouogasse. Brioche. So many perfect loafs. Chef Dominique Rizzo definitely brings the best of neighborhood French patisseries to New Orleans. #thankyouthursday for transporting us to Paris in the heart of Lakeview.

Yelp
Delicious pastry's and breads. But not the place for drinks (coffee/ tea). Cashier was pleasant and helped with options.

Best croissants in town! Fun for the family, quick n delicious with high quality ingredients.

Yelp
The Celtica Bakery is such a cute place. There is an assortment of baked goods, such as crème brûlée, chocolate croissant, apricot danish, cherry tart, etc. The seating area inside is quite small about 7 tables. There are additional tables outside by the side. It is usually always pack too. Luckily, lakefront is 3 mins away. You can order to-go and have a little picnic under a tree! The worker recommended the almond chocolate croissant and the crème brûlée! I bought the almond chocolate croissant, shrimp and corn soup(SOTD), lemon tart, and the matcha latte. The croissant was flakey yet soft on the inside. It was sweet but has a hint of bitterness from the chocolate. It was a great contrast from the shrimp and corn soup, which was very flavorful and lightly spicy from the spices. It has a thick and creamy consistency with chunk of shrimp. I highly recommend it! It comes with bread too. The lemon tart was deliciously sweet and tart. It was a great way to end the meal. I can't wait to try out more of their desserts and maybe some sandwiches. They were almost out of bread when I went at noon. Definitely try to get there early.

Yelp
Something changed with their baguettes very recently. A real French baguette gets hard the next day and is practically a brick two days later which is how it has always been at Celtica-until the last two I bought in the last week that just stayed soft day after day....bummer. Now there are no real French baguettes in New Orleans again.

Yelp
This is the best French bakery I've encountered in the New Orleans area so far! The pastries are splendid, especially the croissant types. They're fresh, very light, and puffy. The bakers make great macarons. They're small and they don't make many, but give them a try when they're available, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. They also have a large selection of drinks which are all pretty good. The bakery is small with numerous seating, and has a cozy environment. If seating isn't available inside, there's additional tables outside hidden along the side of the building, and the option to take your pastries to go. Everyone at the bakery is friendly, helpful, and make you feel welcome. Overall, this is a delightful little bakery, and I highly recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
Celtica, wow! The coffee and the croissants are top notch. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant (Croissant Jambon & Fromage), an americano, and a chocolate croissant. The ham and cheese croissant was delicious. It came with French ham, Swiss cheese, and béchamel sauce. After enjoying my ham and cheese, I had a chocolate croissant. It was flaky and sweet. I would definitely recommend Celtica. There are tons of choices. From pastries, sandwiches, croissants, to whole baguettes, there is something for everyone. I will be back to explore more choices at Celtica!
google avatar

Sharona T.

Yelp
The best, freshest selection of baked goods, croissants, baguettes and tarts! The quiche is so delicious and light, fluffy, scrumptious.

Nicholas M.

Yelp
This is a quaint little spot in Lakeview for French pastries and sandwiches. The pastries are so yummy. They have a cute little courtyard next to the building that's nice to enjoy with good weather. They do not have table service, you have to order at the counter, but they will bring it out to you.

Yelp
This place is like fine Parisian happiness. If you're looking for a little piece of Paris in NOLA, come here! Gorgeous. Delicious pastries, yummy sandwiches, amazing coffee, adorable ambience, lovely owners from Paris (and Brazil, I believe) and really friendly staff. The almond croissant is love!
google avatar

Yelp
In a French city with a plethora of great neighborhood French bakeries, Celtica holds their own. Spotlessly clean. Friendly service. Great selection of pastries and a few bread options. Very good ham and cheese croissant, but I'm still partial to Croissant d'Or. This is an area of town I don't frequent. Parking was a bit confusing. After finding a "handicap" sign in the only spot in the tight rear lot, I was able to park on the side street. If I'm in the neighborhood again, I'd stop by, but can't recommend traveling from downtown or uptown.

Yelp
The bread was the best part ! The baguette / sour dough / olive bread / all fabulous ! They refunded us for a soup that seems like was delicious but was the bottom of the pot so didn't seem at it best. I REALLY respected their customer service in doing so. Such a treat to also have access to fresh orange juice machine thats made to order. My almond passion fruit cake felt overly sugary and not balanced in flavor. Texture was so so. I love all the toppings you can get on your sandwiches! Will be back for the bread / sandwiches and juice :)
google avatar

Karlee N.

Yelp
When I say this ham and cheese croissant changed my life... I MEAN IT!!! So delicious...has become a Sunday staple. All the pastries I've had have been wonderful! And they have amazing, fresh orange juice. Sometimes there can be a long line, but it usually goes pretty quick. I always take mine to go, but the inside has cute decor and is clean. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
I love this spot! So I started watching Emily in Paris and immediately started craving croissants! Go figure! So I yelped croissants and this place popped up! So far I have been here 2 times and haven't been disappointed. The staff is super nice and there is such a HUGE selection to choose from! They are a little pricey but it's lakeview and the cost of everything is going up so I def don't mind paying! Today we actually sat outside in the cutest little courtyard. Adorable and super kid friendly! This is def our Sunday spot! Food is good, customer service great, and there is outdoor seating! What more could you possibly ask for! If you haven't been you should def check it out!

Yelp
What a charming, chic little neighborhood French Bakery. They're located on Robert E. Lee, and there's a parking lot behind the building. The case is filled with rich looking, gorgeous pastries and there are several varieties of breads behind the counter. There are a few tables inside so that you can sit and relax while you enjoy your treats. On this visit I picked up a few things to go - a baguette, a chocolate croissant, and a cup of hot cocoa. The pastries were every bit as good as any pastries I've had in Paris. The cocoa was very tasty, but not as thick as a French hot chocolate. I'm looking forward to making my way through the entire pastry case in time.

Yelp
Great food but customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Living on the neighborhood, I've been to Celtica numerous times but today's experience was really weird and rude. As I was about to place my order the brunette cashier told me the order line began to the left of where I was standing. This was odd to me as no one had ever said that to me before there, I had ordered from where I was standing numerous times before without issue, and there was no sign indicating where a line began. When I asked if I could order because there was no one behind me or in front of me, a group of younger people walked in and the brunette cashier said she wasn't sure who came in first, even though the door had opened and she had asked my husband to close it, clearly acknowledging that she was aware that another group had walked in. She then walked away refusing to serve me. I then stopped to the left and placed my order with the blonde cashier who begrudgingly took my order. I felt very rushed and unwelcomed and it was not the typical experience that I expected from the bakery. While the food is good, the customer service experience left me questioning if I would come back

Jo R.

Yelp
The croissants are the closest thing I have had to a croissant in Paris. Delicious. We also had both the quiche Lorraine and quiche florentine - outstanding
google avatar

Alan W.

Yelp
The croissants are RIDICULOUSLY good. Flaky, yet fluffy, and buttery. I've been to Paris and let me tell you this place is a slice of it with just with a much quicker commute. Will be back.

Yelp
This bakery has a huge selection of pastries and sweets. I was thoroughly impressed and must come back to try them. However, I stopped in for lunch so I can only attest to my savory experience here! I most definitely will be back. Five stars for the baguette! The bread . The lunch menu is limited but has a great selection for build-your-own sandwiches. There are many sandwich combo options! My only problem: I appreciate a bit of guidance and wish they had some selections to start. Building sandwiches is difficult and when presented with so many great spreads and toppings sometimes it's best to leave these things for professionals. Lastly, I do wish that they rid themselves of disposable plates for orders in the bakery!

Jose P.

Yelp
Nice service and pastries are very good We enjoyed the environment and location as well. We ordered all sorts of pastries and baguette.

Shannon R.

Yelp
I was very disappointed by my experience with this place. The barista was clearly upset and slamming things around as she worked. She appeared rushed even though there seemed to be no reason for it. In her haste she repeatedly spilled things and dropped utensils on the floor. While attempting to make my tea she spilled tea leaves all over and repeatedly cussed while tossing the cup to the side. She then used the same cup to remake the tea. I understand people have off days. I think it's important to recognize the energy being given off in this scenario. As I waited I found myself in a state of unrest, frazzled from her behavior. She left me no longer desiring a cozy cup of tea. I felt like I left with all of her anger.

Dominic S.

Yelp
The breads and pastries are excellent in every way. Truly has the feel of being at a cafe in Paris. The sandwich menu is very simple, but extremely tasty.
google avatar

Jayde L.

Yelp
This place is such a gem! They bake fresh bread loaves for purchase. They have a variety of French pastries to choose from. The Nutella brioche is a must for chocolate lovers! The coffee is artfully made. There is inside and outside seating available. Quiche comes in two different traditional French flavors. You can get items to go and to eat there. Employees were extremely helpful and kind.

Yelp
I am so thankful that the founder of La Boulangerie opened up their own bakery again! I have watched as La Boulangerie's bakes go down in quality and up in price, and I was missing the amazing pastries I had grown up on at the OG Boulangerie before the Link restaurant group sale in 2015. Going here took me back to my childhood. I used to get the chocolate almond croissants, strawberry tarts, apple cinnamon danishes, and galette des rois all the time growing up, and they are as delicious as I remember them! There is truly so much care that goes into making the food here, and you can tell in the high quality of each item. Celtica is a special spot that's up to french patisserie standards! If you're fed up with the bready, Americanized croissants that are so common in the US, then you'll love the offerings here of impeccably flaky pastry. Oh, and the space is beautiful and bright, with a nice outdoor seating area!
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
Great pastries in the Lakeview neighborhood. I regularly stop on for a few goodies and a cup of coffee. It doesn't matter if you're in the mood for sweet or savory--Celtica has something for you!
google avatar

Paul N.

Yelp
Might be the best French bakery in the city. Great sandwiches as well. Get there or get your order in by noon, as they will often be out of various things by them.

Megan C.

Yelp
Amazing pastries, authentic French boulangerie. Definitely plan to return. Small interior.
google avatar

Cynthia C.

Yelp
We love Celtica and have been here a bunch since discovering it. The former owner of La Boulangerie opened this smaller shop that is chock full of French classics: croissants of various flavors, macaroons, passion fruit almond cake, tarts, napoleons, baguettes and ciabatta, financiers, danishes with various fruit, ham and cheese croissants and little quiches with full coffee offerings. The staff is friendly and efficient and the storefront is cheerful with an outside side yard. We are fans!
google avatar

Ella A.

Yelp
What a great place! I purchased a mocha and a piece of galette de rois (the French version of king cake). The mocha was not my taste (the coffee was bitter and I like my drink sweeter). However, the pastry was delicious! The decor included original NOLA art and beautiful flowers all over the walls. There are many pastry, dessert, sandwich, breakfast/lunch, and drink choices. Inside and outside seating available. Both street and lot parking available. And incredibly, a handicap accessible ramp into the building! I will definitely be back, the staff was friendly and helpful. Everyone was wearing masks and following covid protocols.
google avatar

Vicky H.

Yelp
What a lovely bakery! It was recommended to me a while back and I finally made my way there. The facility has inside and outside seating, not a huge place, but comfortable. The parking lot is quite small, luckily there are convenient street parking. I tried several pastry items during my visit, coconut macaroon, chocolate croissant, strawberry shortcake, Paris brest and the apple souffle, they were all very nice! Especially the apple souffle, it was delicious! They serve French Truck Coffee and have freshly squeezed OJ! I will definitely be back, would love to try their breads and savory selections next time!
google avatar

Aaron H.

Yelp
Wife and I have come here a few times now. Great little bakery. Croissants are delicious. Quiches are decent. Danishes are very good. Haven't tried the pastries yet, so can't judge those. Staff is nice. There is a small parking lot in the back, but you'll likely need to park on the street. Prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Julia W.

Yelp
I love this place! I was so excited to find another French bakery! The decor is so pretty. It's a cute little place for afternoon tea or coffee date :) My favorite so far are the Mille Feuilles, cream puff, the quiches, and croissant sandwich. The chocolate eclair was good, but a little too rich for me. I might try the regular cream filling next time. The strawberry tart was good, but a little too sweet for my taste. This was actually my second visit this week because I wanted to try everything. You can definitely taste all the love in their pastries. This has been one of my favorite places outside of Europe for French Pastries so far.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Holy sh*t. My favorite baker who opened and ran the original la Boulangerie has opened up a bakery in Lakeview. He has the BEST pastries and croissant I used to probably go twice a week before Donald Link bought it in 2015. I cannot believe our luck. I've been asking for a neighborhood bakery(breakfast pastries) with seating area for years in this part of town (Lakeview/metairie) . He had the BEST pastries and croissants. I cannot believe our luck. And my a*s that will enlarge as a consequence. I've been asking for a neighborhood bakery for years in this part of town. The line was long but expected and the pastries were everything I remember. Thank you thank you for coming to Lakeview The line was long but expected and everything I remember. Thank you thank you for coming to Lakeview!

Yelp
THE best thing that ever moved to my street! (Wuerpel, that is ;) Their ham and cheese croissants are a family favorite. Their coffees are just amazing- it changes my days for the better. We order their "Build your own" sandwiches often - made with their fresh bread and the finest of ingredients. I personally love the baguette with ham and brie; it was my favorite until last week's ciabatta with brie and their roasted chicken (WOW!)- so great!! =) If you haven't gone yet- give it a try =) and I hope you enjoy it too!
google avatar

Samantha D.

Yelp
Served with a side of attitude! This place has fresh ingredients and good sandwiches. However, we said NO MAYO On two separate occasions. Both times they gave us sandwiches smothered, dripping in Mayonnaise. I pick the sandwich up it's covered with Mayo, all layers. They are rude if you ask for to go.

Maria O.

Yelp
Good location. Overpriced. One shouldn't have to pay $8 for a small regular coffee and a very small slice of so-so plain cake.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
My daughter and I stopped by late during a Saturday afternoon and were surprised by how many fresh options were still available. We ended up each getting a croissant and split a package of chocolate covered strawberries, also grabbing a loaf of multigrain bread to take home. The croissants were perfectly rich and flakey. We really enjoyed sitting inside with the large glass windows and lots of vibrant potted plants livening up the space, but there was ample outdoors seating as well. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Sam W.

Yelp
This is a cute little bakery shop on the West End of NOLA. I stopped off here for my Birthday sweet and had the Opera Cake which was just right. I also ordered an ice coffee that paired perfectly. My husband had an Apple tarte that according to him was perfect. This in a cute new modern building and great place to stop off and taste a great french pastry.
google avatar

Lauren V.

Yelp
Absolutely love French bakeries and this place is spot on! I think it's the original owner from la Boulangerie on magazine. But they have much better quality here!! I create my own "parisien" sandwich with French bread, butter, ham, cheese, cornichons, not pressed. A serious dream! Amazing coffee as well. Just remember to eat your baguette upside down

Pamela Janine K.

Yelp
Yum. Spendy, but I don't mind that if everything is quality and yummy-yum. Bright seating area, neighborhood feel. Good croissants.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing French pastries! Closest you'll come to being in a French boulangerie. Service could definitely be friendlier though. Last time, I was overcharged and the girl working tried to upsell me another pastry instead of just giving me my change after already buying a ton of pastries which was just annoying to be honest. Go early so they don't sell out of the goodies! Hope they open another location soon!
