Central Fish is very nostalgic for me. I grew up coming here with family from an hour away. On this day I ordered the salmon nuggets which according to them is a popular item. It was very delicious. I have to agree with that statement. It is breaded lightly and fried. The breading was thin and the nuggets were juicy considering its fish. It was not dry at all. Then I ordered the veggie tempura to top it off and it was very good. Fried to order. I will be back and I will recommend this place. From what I can tell the made daily fresh sushi looked very good.

Amazing fish and chips. Freshly made by Andrew and the team. Big portion size. Definitely stop by this local Fresno institution.

Great knowledgeable people. You can pre-order specialty sashimi items. My favorites are the shucker oysters, sashimi salmon, and hamachi. Good selection of IPA beers and sake that you can't find anywhere else in town.

Grew up coming here so much with my grandparents and now I bring my son all the time. The food is always fresh + hot. Everything is delicious, menu isn't super overwhelming with options. They keep it to the classics. The store is always clean and organized. Large variety of products to look through.

I had an incredible dining experience at Central Fish Company although the area is shady ! Girl in the front recommend I get the scallops and shrimp plate and I couldn’t say no because she was mad cute. The food was unbelievably fresh and bursting with flavor—some of the best seafood I’ve ever had. Every dish was perfectly prepared, and you could tell the ingredients were of the highest quality. The service was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for amazing seafood. It’s definitely worth a visit—you won’t be disappointed!

Ordered online for myself and some coworkers. Food was ready when stated and was hot and fresh. Good price and good food (plates are good sized portions). Plus they have a condiment area where ur able to get the condiments yourself so you can get as much as you need for your order. Food was delicious and filling. Would recommend for lunch/dinner and even dining 🍽 in with coworkers or family!

We visited the restaurant today. (Not the fish market or the grocery store) The food was acceptable. I'm not a fan of Basa fish but it was OK. We also got the Scallop and Shrimp special. They were very good! The scallops were flavorful and the shrimp were nicely breaded and very tasty. We also had a teriyaki salmon plate. It was really tasty. The service was good. Friendly and polite. The meals were prepared quickly. I would like to see the fried fish meals wrapped in something foil, parchment, something to keep them in the basket) before they were placed in the brown paper bag. Overall, if you want a fish dinner, they have a good selection at a good price.

We love this place. Love the sodas. First time trying the scallops and shrimp plate. Don't let the pics fool you. It's delicious for fried food. We have been coming here for decades. Always love the service and the food. Fresh mochi and fish. Chicken teriyaki is delicious too. We'll be back.

Yelp
Ambiance not great at all but you didn't go there for that. Service was average. Took a while to get our order, but they were busy & it was close to the end of the day. Do want to note, the guy who cleans the tables was very thorough. Much appreciated! ORDER: Combo Seafood & Tempura w/rice & salad Fish, veggies, rice salad Disappointed that they ran out of clam chowder by 1pm tho. They only have it Friday early it seems. Food was hot & crispy w/out being greasy. Very good overall. Will definitely come back. Store also has sashimi grade fish!

Yelp
We have been on a poke kick lately and found this place on sf gate . I had saw this place a few weeks ago but didn't realize it is also a Japanese supermarket . There's no other stores in this area and it literally looks like it's in the middle of nowhere but when you enter it's a pretty well stocked Japanese market / fresh fish market . Great place if you need to stock up on Japanese snacks / condiments / seasoning . They have a large fresh fish section . The poke is 17.99 / lb and it's delicious and super fresh !! They also have some fresh made sushi as well . We got poke and I also grabbed some drinks and natto!!! I'll definitely be back to try some more poke, fish, and sushi .

Yelp
This place has been such an establishment for many decades. It is a staple of the old Chinatown that used to be here in downtown Fresno. What I love is that people from all walks of life come here for some good fish, sushi and groceries. We came here on a weekend day about 1.5 hours before closing and there were only two sushi containers left up front. A staff member said that if we wanted sushi we should come early. We then ordered some fish and chips and sesame balls. The fish and chips were very very basic. The fish was basa and the fries were kind of odd with multiple of them stuck together. The sesame balls were tiny and not what we were used to, but still tasty. We did enjoy browsing the store, which had gifts, dishes and utensils, fish, and various goodies and treats. I was surprised though that an unmarked gourmet bag of candy was $10 for a small bag. That caught me off guard. Overall, appreciate this place still being a staple in the community and holding up the various businesses in the area as well.

Yelp
I'm not from the area, but from what I'm told, this is a local institution. Central Fish Company has been opened for well over 30 years and has a fresh fish counter filled octopus, scallops, ahi, and what seemed like hundreds of other catch-of-the day items. There's also a produce section with specialty Asian fruits and veg, imported Japanese candies, sauces, noodles, and an entire aisle dedicated to pottery and dish wares. There's a small upstairs area where they sell decorations, along with some knives and other tchotchkes. I did end up getting some Japanese candy kits for my kids and a green tea and strawberry Kit Kat from Japan. There were super tasty! There's so much amazing stuff in here. I feel like I barely scratched the surface. A second trip is definitely in the works. If you've never been Central Fish Co., or haven't been in a long time, this place is definitely worth the trip.

Yelp
Central Fish has always been a fun place to stop and get authentic Asian ingredients. My sister gets raw fish for sushi and sashimi and I usually get chili oil and snacks! There's a pretty fair selection and you can get pretty much everything you need for a nice dinner. The service at the fish counter is great, the service at checkout is usually pretty lackluster. The cashiers often seem bored to death. The food at the restaurant is... poor. I've had the teriyaki bowl and katsu and both times the rice was dry, and the chicken was dry and super rubbery. Overall I recommend coming here, but make sure you can handle a VERY strong fish odor.

Yelp
Excellent selection of fresh seafood, ethnic foods and a wide variety of grocery items. A well known store located in Chinatown near downtown Fresno, this store has served the community for years with fresh seafood as well as serving plate lunches just next to the store.

Fatima F.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years and the food is always pretty good but today I had the clam chowder for the first time. It was better than Splash cafe chowder! You can have it in a cup or with a bread bowl. The bread bowl will be next. The chowder is thick, creamy and is well seasoned but not salty. The only down side is that the counters to get condiments are always very sticky so it makes me wonder how clean it is despite how clean it looks lol. Maybe it's only that spot because people spill sauces. The service is very kind and helpful, as always :)

Yelp
The freshest fish in fresno! The food here is amazing i have been coming here since I was 18 and they still got it. The sushi is fresh every day. For the downtown and west workers this is the spot for the adorable sushi roll. Also the fun Japanese snack, drinks and ice creams are a must! Love seeing this keep up China town and revive the area.

Yelp
It doesn't get fresher than Central Fish Company! I had popped in here before to grab groceries but finally had the chance to get here in time before they close. I wish I had come earlier though because I really wanted to try the scallops but they were sold out for the day! I like that several items like the sauces, paper towels, and utensils are available for us to self serve. All the food came out piping hot and crunchy and just so delicious. Fish and Fish: 5/5 if you're shying away from carbs, this is a great deal. We ordered this to split for a group of 4, giving everyone and extra filet. Shrimp and chips: 5/5 If you like shrimp, this is a must try Breaded squid: 4/5 The squid is reaaallly good and you can tell its good quality - only downside is that it was smaller than we expected so between the four of us we each got one bite. Vegetable tempura: 4/5 a little heavier on the batter than ideal, but not so much that we couldn't enjoy it!

Yelp
Food is prepared well. Servers are very good. I enjoy the dining & shopping atmosphere afterwards.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to come and shop at, they have a lot of Japanese food items that I consistently buy. I love the diversity! Today I ordered a poke bowl and a miso soup, both 100% exceeded my expectations! I've had other food from here but this was very good!! My definite new go to for a salmon poke bowl and now I'm in trouble because I've found a new favorite AND I work down the street from them lol Thank you Central Fish!!

Yelp
Amazing. This place is pretty much half restaurant, half market. The pros of the grocery section; 1. A lot of imported delicacies and dry goods. They have everything from fresh fish to Japanese Oreo tasting cookies (a fav of mine), to Japaness imported Fanta and Monster, to meats. Also love their imported curry rice in the mylar pouch. 2. Pretty decent selection of domestic beers and IPAs - they got Tioga-Sequoia beers, Modelo, etc 3. Not just Asian oriented groceries, they have a lot of Creole and Mexican stuff as well. Great selection of seasonings. The restaurant portion; In my opinion, the true winner here. Service; 1. Lauren at the front end is always super friendly. 2. As is, the woman I presume to be the restaurant manager. I asked her and the gentleman working tonight to pack my teriyaki bowl really well as I had a 2 hour drive home. They understood the assignment, 6 hours later it was still warm! Those two deserve a raise! The prepped food; 1. Their beef teriyaki bowl is a must try. With broccoli, it's even better! 2. Their Basa fish and salad meal is a close second. I'm not a huge fan of most fish, but their preparation and frying of it is great. Paired with some tartar sauce makes for an excellent filling meal on the cheap. 3. Their salmon nuggets. Absolute perfection, order fries with it; thank me later. All in all, a hidden gem and a new favorite of mine.

Yelp
I was super sad that this place did not meet my expectations. From the reviews and photos, I thought this would be a hot spot but fell short. I stopped into the market which look like a Chinese takeout restaurant. I wasn't sure where to go for my poke fix. When I finally found the front of the restaurant, there weren't much options for poke. It was basically salmon or tuna; regular or spicy. I wish there was an option to do half and half. When I received my food, I didn't realize but there were tons of toppings on top of my rice. To be honest, there were barely any rice. My salmon tasted super fishy which was tough to eat. Overall, I don't think it was legit poke.

Yelp
I have to say right out the gate that the purpose of our visit was to try their diner's hot food. It was terrible. The French fries were the only 3 star out of 5 rated item. The fried fish was not good. The teriyaki chicken was sturdy, making you work on every bite. The teriyaki sauce had this processed flavor that can only be satisfied by any off-the-shelf bottle. And the service from the girl at the counter was terrible. On the store side, it's got a quaint, "hey give me credit, I'm an Asian owned store" kind of vibe. Which to me as an Asian, excuses them from meeting current American standards. I'll leave it to you whether that's okay or not. This was earlier in the day and yet the floor was dirty. I won't excuse that having an older property can't be kept clean AND maintained. The sushi that I picked up was dry and most definitely did not get the rice vinegar/sugar/salt treatment. The fish was not cut to the right standards and you can tell from the taste. I even got two of the rolls that the fish were inedible due to some durable-like sinewy running through it. Gross. They have Kopiko Coffee treats. These are potent. Love them. Try them! And their only other saving grace from an abysmal 1 star is the fresh made kimchi was actually very good and worth the buy, especially because it's packaged in a variety of sizes and undercuts prepackaged prices. Otherwise this store was not worth a trip to south Fresno for.

Yelp
Delish fish and chips. Great portion size, perfectly cooked fish and awesome texture on both the fish and fries. Friendly staff, with prompt service. Nice market with lots of items such as spices, sauces, snacks, frozen goods and etc..

Yelp
Been going here for years and the place just keeps getting worse and worse. . I hardly ever write reviews, but this really needs one. There was a hair in my fries a while back ..that should've been the last time I went there... Returned today and got a teriyaki salmon plate.. For 18$ I got the most flavorless small SKINNY dry salmon I've have ever tasted. I don't know what that price is paying for because the salad and rice doesn't cost that much. Neither does the salmon. That plate is worth 8$ no more. If you're thinking about going there, you should find somewhere better. My family and I used to love this place, but we will not be returning after all the years of going.
google avatar

Ignacio V.

Yelp
Food taste was okay very greasy, fish market smell grossed me out when I went to restroom. A lot of flys made dining not very enjoyable. Gave our order to some other couple waiting was long , severs and cooks-didn't ware hair nets while frying and handling the food . Place was very old in a not so nice location in Fresno
google avatar

Yelp
I like to come here to treat myself to some raw salmon when I can. I be craving but sometimes it can be expensive cus then I end up wanting some of the mixed squid thing, seaweed salad and spicy mixed tuna lol.. so I try to resist. I usually do get the salmon. It's fresh and sushi grade. The best part is when I get the fatty pieces. U can tell them how much of it u want and even have them cut it for u sashimi style. The little store itself is pretty cool. They have a lot of imported Korean, Japanese and Chinese snacks, candies and noods!!! So many new things to try! I even heard they have a little shop upstairs compared to a mini daiso.. not sure if it's still there. I never been up there. I also never tried the restaurant side of the place. My review is strictly for the market. The service is always great. Everyone is nice. The outside area is a lil sketch. But it's not something I'm not used to here in Fresno lol. Might be bums across the st in the dirt field. Someone got stabbed last time and ran into the store for help. Shit crazy in Fresno!

Yelp
We've been going to Central Fish market since my grandfather and family members. back in those days, they had stamps that we would collect to use for anything in the store. We hope the family will continue this treasure store.

Yelp
I love this place so much! It is so nostalgic. Central Fish Market is our go to for all things Asian, but especially when we're craving an authentic meal. Not only do they have the best frozen and pantry items, but you can also get some hot meals. Their seafood section is also diverse. We decided to get a Poké bowl this time. The poke bowl was heavy! It was $17 but had warm, perfectly cooked rice. On top it also had a lot of crab salad, edamame, seaweed salad, squid in ginger and mini squids (didn't like these as much). Of course you also get your choice of protein. We went for tuna.

Doreen E.

Yelp
Tried fish and chips and veggie tempura for first time. Fish was hot fresh and crisp as could be. No soggy batter inside which I find off putting. Beautifully cooked. Tempura was just ok but I just ordered out of curiosity. Mainly looking for the best fish and chips which I think I've found. The fries were also perfectly cooked not soggy. I love my fries crisp. I would recommend!

Liz E.

Yelp
My husband and nephew had the fish n chips and I had the chicken rice and tempura veggies. The fish seemed undercooked and mushy, the breading wasn't very good. My chicken was dry and luke warm, I got very little rice and the tempura veggies weren't fresh! The place was filthy with dirty empty tables, my husband had to clean a table himself, and we waited a long time for our food. Don't waste your money!
google avatar

Heidi W.

Yelp
My husband and I have eaten here several times the food is always excellent!! Staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. It's not a large dining area, but it's cozy. The view from the windows as you're eating is breathtaking as you can still see the original buildings from the early 1900s if not earlier. Anytime here in the mood for great seafood and don't wanna travel to the coast come here you will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Anna Q.

Yelp
We love buying fresh salmon here and making our own sushi rolls at home. We like that the fish is packed in ice and they will slice it for you for an extra charge.
google avatar

Mark Y.

Yelp
The place reminds me of an old school eatery tucked away inside a Japanese grocery store but I actually found the box lunch good. It's by no means a game changer but you get a lot for what you pay for. I got the chicken teriyaki which consisted of chopped up chicken breast which seemed grilled - not sure - but the sauce was a bit off in taste and not in a bad way. I really liked that it came with five pieces of tempura veggies - sweet potatoes, broccoli and carrots. It also had steamed rice and of course a good mixed salad with a thick dressing that resembled thousand island. You can also get a variety of grab and go sushi plates in the grocery store too. The menu covered a broad range of items from udon, poke bowl, beef dishes to deep-fried seafood (fish, clams, oysters, and shrimp) and chips. The service is order at the counter and when they call your number pick it up.
google avatar

Cynthia W.

Yelp
Wanted to come back and say, when we went again a couple weeks ago, I told them about the missing sesame ball order, and they gave us an order of 8 on the house, no problem. Thank you! Also upping my review because I had a taste of the fish plate, and it was delicious. Gonna get that next time we're there.

Yelp
Chicken katsudon is to die for. It takes a little time to cook but it is well worth the wait. The chicken is fantastic, the sauce is great and the rice is very fluffy. The service is always great and the workers are awesome!
google avatar

Yelp
Not a great part of town but great prices, food is good and big portions. Fish is always fresh! Half the price of eating at the coast!

Katy H.

Yelp
We love the products and the fish counter is great its always fresh and the restraunt in the back is great customer service is aways top notch and the fish counter employees knew what the difference was between the different cod I was asking about.

Yelp
spacious grocery store with a small selection of japanese kitchen & imported kawaii items. there's also a small selection of japanese spirits & beer, ice cream treats & wide selection of snacks. EXCELLENT customer service. plenty of parking right in front. there is a 2nd floor which leads to a small selection of japanese decorations/knick knacks. one thing to watch out for though is the EXPIRATION DATES on candy/snacks. some of the food item dates were already months past expiration date. i was hoping this place would be very similar to mitsuwa market in san jose, ca but it's very different. they carry some similar items as mitsuwa, but is lacking in variety. we ate at the small restaurant located inside this market. delicious & fast food. we had salmon teriyaki, fried veggie tempura, veggie eggrolls & sesame balls. all were very tasty & great for the price. seating capacity is small, better to take to-go unless you're on a quick lunch break. also it is pretty warm inside. there are fans blowing here & there but for the most part it felt very warm & uncomfortable while shopping..in 110 degree heat outside i don't know how the employees can stand how warm it is inside the store, even with the fans..

Yelp
Best place to buy and eat fresh fish in Fresno. The service is excellent. The ambiance is excellent both the store and restaurant very clean. I highly recommend this business.
google avatar

Rose S.

Yelp
Been shopping there for years. Then catching the Teriyaki Salmon plate before going home. At least since 1992! Have always felt portions were generous and I could always bring at least half of the salmon home for later. BUT on Fri. 11/8/24 was shocked when I ordered the same Teri Salmon plate and saw the amount of salmon drastically reduced . I actually took it back up to the counter and expressed my unhappiness and wanted my $17.99 back! Was told that the mgr. Cut back on the portions of salmon recently. I felt it was no longer worth it and was offered more salmon to make it right. I know now never to order that item off the menu! Shocking and disappointing.
google avatar

Rudy T.

Yelp
Went back for the first time in a while not much has changed but sadly they did change the type of fish they use for their fish and rice now they use basa catfish instead of the cod they once did the taste is not the same, still good but not the same. Definitely need to start stopping buy more when I need to buy shrimp Or fish to cook at home especially with all the different types of sauces and seasonings they sale.

Yelp
I love everything about central fish company! We were gathering groceries to make sushi at home with friends and decided to take the drive over and see what they had. Immediately when walking in, you can see straight away the fish counter where they have fresh fish of all varieties and cuts. They even have prepared foods such as poke, crab salad, seaweed salad, etc. They had exactly the sushi grade fish we needed to make our sushi at home. I was looking at the poke because poke is one of my favorite things, and the worker asked me if I had ever tried their poke. He told me that they had salmon poke, tuna poke, and spicy versions of those two. He then proceeded to ask if I wanted to try all of them since I had never tried theirs before! He gave enough for us to try of each, and they were so delicious and hard to choose from, but I ended up choosing what he recommended, the spicy tuna poke. He was super nice and helpful in the entire experience. I got a quarter of a pound and had enough for a single or two serving. The rest of the store has a variety of ingredients and unique imports. They also have different cutlery and plating for different types of meals. Great store for imported goods, fresh seafood, and other great products. Worth a visit every time.

Ross P.

Yelp
Great food and excellent prices. Seafood is very fresh and well prepared, looking to return soon.

Yelp
It's an experience! Great food, GREAT SERVICE, and everything you will need to either cook Japanese dishes, roll your own sushi, or have it prepared for you. No gigantic sales pitches, just GREAT Japanese/Asain groceries that you will want or need for cooking or eating. Great Fish & Chips, Tonkatsu, ramen, and teriyaki bowl. The Shrimp Tempura is fantastic!!! They make great French Fries, also. They even have Clam Chowder in a bread bowl, on Fridays! That's my next "I've gotta try it"!!!

R T.

Yelp
Good, spicy, and fresh poke. Big portion comes with everything shown. I skipped the seaweed salad. Had enough for leftovers.
google avatar

Sunitha G.

Yelp
I don't come here too often since it's a bit out of the way for me but the few times I've been here especially during the night market, it's definitely left a good impression on me. They have a decent variety of Asian groceries/snacks and of course seafood. I really enjoy their food from the restaurant, that's one thing I can confidently say is worth getting here if you happen to be nearby!

Charles B.

Yelp
Came in for the shimp and chips... oh Lord !! Soo good.. fresh and delicious.. Brittany at the register was friendly and playful... thank you Central Fish for the great food as always

Yelp
Updated review for the grocery store side: in 2022 I've been doing a lot more cooking and have visited Central Fish for some harder to find ingredients. Last weeks recipe was Vietnamese style egg rolls that called for MSG and those clear vermicelli type rice noodles-I found both and more at Central Fish. I really enjoy shopping here. Lots of interesting finds, fresh fish of course and other household items and pantry staples. Big selection of sake! I picked up some Japanese beer last time too. The staff is still masking which is so awesome! Will be back soon.

Corina G.

Yelp
Awhile back, we visited the restaurant inside Central Fish Market, I oordered a beef teriyaki plate, the beef was slithered shredded pieces of meat. Today decided to give them another try, but this time I ordered a chicken teriyaki bowl, oh my goodness the chicken meat, shredded as well, tasted like old chicken dried and horrific!!! What happened to this place, they used to serve hot, good quality and tasty food at one time. This is so sad, the quality and temperature of their food from their restaurant has really gone down hill...I normally don't give out ratings, but in this case, I had to, due to the quality of their food has not improved.
google avatar

Ray R.

Yelp
Went to buy fresh fish stoped at the restaurant wish I hadn't the chowder was pure butter no hardly any clams tempura way too greasy ambiance not good take it to go would I eat there again no maybe I'm wrong give it a try if your in the area I would stick to just buying the fresh fish at the store.

Yelp
Food is great, lady taking orders really sweet but they need a deep cleaning of kitchen and bathrooms Nobody wipes tables anymore They should hire extra people One to clean tables and garbage and a night crew to clean kitchen.
google avatar

Yelp
Visited for dinner before attending an event at Selland and was very pleased! My wife was super excited they serve chicken katsu and I ordered the fish and rice plate. All the meats were cooked well and left tender, while the rice tasted soft and fresh. The building itself could probably use some updating, but it has character and the products are clearly the focus here. Staff were friendly and one of the cooks actually asked us if we'd had enough food! (We had leftovers for a couple days). We will definitely be coming back to this (not so) hidden gem and exploring more of the menu!

Yelp
Central Fish. Wonderful old Fresno stuff, and a real trip down memory lane for me. Every time I come in here I feel like I'm visiting an ancient old friend, and it boy does it feel good. I love the fish and vegetables, that tempura brocolli is fantastic, and boy do they give you a load of fish for about 10 bucks. Last time I had the salmon nuggets and they load you down with that too. This is really good, unpretentious food in an unpretentious place with highly unpretentious prices, what I mean to say is, its a bargain! After you eat, go browse the store a little, and check out some of the very interesting Asian things they sell there as well as the fresh fish. Its really fascinating! Central Fish. You've done a terrific job of being there for me my whole life and I hope you will be there forever. Yay for the original owners who I remember so well and yay for all of you who have kept it alive! Please don't ever change a thing, you are perfect the way you are!

Yelp
Food is fresh, portion is good for the price. Lots of menu items to choose from. Good place to enjoy a quick lunch.

Yelp
Again, we can't get enough of our delicious "Fish combination plate" from Central Fish Market. Best food ever! Only 1 mile away from our residence. This is more like "Little Tokyo" inside the market. You can find many Japanese products in the market. It's not just a restaurant, but it's a market, and a section where you can find Japanese bowls, plates, and other things. Remember that they sell fresh seafood, thus, their seafood plates are fresh and delicious. Lol, I sound like a PR; advertising. It's not a PR ad., I'm a real customer with a real review. I write comments on places that I eat at. I write either good or bad experience reviews. I do so to help future customers, hoping to give them an insight of my experience(s). Hope this helps!
